Opinions de Alexander’s Steakhouse San Francisco
I had an amazing dinner with my husband. We needed a date. It was our second time to the restaurant. The food is amazing and delicious. The service was exceptional. The bartender was attentive and great. I needed help with the stairs to their restroom. They accommodated me with elevator access. Truly awesome.
We went to Alexander's for a pre-Father's Day dinner. Our steaks were delicious, and we loved the snap peas, onions, and fries. We also received a free round of sparkling wine for Father's Day, and the entire restaurant was receiving free cotton candy and chocolates for dessert. Also, our sommelier was knowledgeable and friendly. I would definitely recommend a trip for a special occasion.
Love the exposed brick interior, steak was amazing and service on point! Went for our holiday dinner with friends, beautiful decorations and staff was very attentive. Drinks were delicious and wine recommendations were perfect, we even got cotton candy that was a hit all around.. 😊. Will definitely go back!
Came to Alexander's for our 1st anniversary. The woman at the door was delightful and the person who seated us was great as well. They were so elegant and we felt like privileged guests from the start. The sommelier recommended amazing wines to fit our tastes. Service was stellar and surprised us throughout our dining experience. The food was absolutely the best we have had. The head server and sommelier were so attentive and predicted our desires somehow. I can't wait to have the opportunity to return. Five stars all the way for such a fantastic team all around. Thank you so much for such a wonderful time and dishes.
The steaks are delicious and so is the bread. Service is amazing. They will treat you very well. Love that they still give out cotton candy as a dessert. It's just something about the servers and food that makes up good stuff on Google maps
Love the service. Group of us came and ordered. Corkage was 50 per bottle for 1st 2 bottles and then 100 there after. Oysters felt a little steep but the steak was awesome. Had the aged porterhouse and wet aged ribeye which was perfect. Winelist was great and had the Far Niente dolce for dessert.
My wife and I had dinner here for our anniversary. The waiter was very professional as he explained the dinner menu and answering all our questions. He didn't hesitate to bring out the frozen steaks of wagyu to inform us of their uniqueness. Our dinner started with bread and squid chips which were decent tasting. Next we had our hands in a small serving of edamame coated in truffle oil. These were pleasantly delicious. The nice bread girl informed us of how to eat them as we were foreign to the custom: placing the pod in your mouth, pulling it out while forcing the beans out of the pod with your teeth, then discarding the pod. The main course consisted of filet mignon, A5 Japanese Kobe, A5 Mayazaki wagyu, and spring veggies. The steaks were served with 12 different kinds of salts from around the world. These meats were AMAZING! Being able to taste the difference between American meat and the illusive Kobe and wagyu was the best experience. This has ruined eating steak in any other form or fashion. This was the Pinnacle of eating meat. The spring veggies were a nice compliment to the steak. Predessert (apparently that's a thing, why didn't anyone tell me?) Was a small serving of ice cream. This was a perfect pallet cleanser to prepare for dessert, which was a delicious sliver of carrot cake. Afterward our waiter surprised us with an extra dessert of cake with "Happy Anniversary" scribed in chocolate. I loved this place and would not hesitate to eat here again the next time we are in San Fransisco.
Probably the best steak you can get in San Francisco, and the only place you can get exclusive cuts of A5 Japanese beef. Aside from the steak, they have interesting appetizers and cocktails that usually include an element of Japanese cuisine. The wine list and whiskey selection is top notch. Expect to pay a lot here.
Alexanders Steakhouse sets the definition for fine dining. We sampled the Hon Hamachi, Scallops, Chanterelle and Wagyu Mashed Potato along with the Filet and Ribeye for our main dish. They have flavor down to a science. The service here is the definition of the word service and they broke down each and every dish then brought out to us. Outstanding experience and highly recommended.
Went here for a steak knowing it was going to be expensive and got what was the best steak of my trip. That said it was a little too fancy for my taste with some of their sides and offerings, But I definitely will not take away anything for over delivering even if it's not my style. The kitchen brought me a couple of freebie samplers, But I was definitely not their target audience. When you're talking fancy deconstructed and bougie items that I'm sure most people absolutely are in love with. Also, as many people have said they truly know their steaks and they are well prepared. I was also pleasantly surprised with the dessert and cotton candy.
Food is awesome as it should be for the price points. The space overall is loud just due to the amount of hard surfaces in the space. Wait staff was outstanding high level of attention to the table, drinks never went empty, etc. If you want a high dinning experience, this will not disappoint, enjoy.
We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary and stayed in San Fran for a couple of days before heading to Napa Valley. I’d have to say that our experience was above expectations as Patrick was a most excellent host! He answered all of our questions and was very knowledgeable! They went above and beyond in accommodating us and it didn’t go unnoticed. The price we paid was justified in the experience we had and we’d gladly do it all over again! Enjoy!
Very modern open architectural design. They have a cocktail area in front and the main dining on the main floor and upstairs. The wine selection is extensive as well. I’ve dined here for prime rib, Wagyu, and their annual Wagyu A5 prefix dinner. Always an enjoyable experience here.
The wagyu fillet was one of the best meats I've ever had. Had it medium rare which was perfect, nice and pinkish red in the middle but not bloody, nicely browned on the outside with a nice crisp on the edges. Awesome smokey flavor and came with an assortment of salts to try on it. Super good whiskey and scotch selection as well, highly suggest you try this place out
Celebrated an anniversary at Alexander's Steakhouse last week 6/24/21 and it was spectacular! We originally had reservations elsewhere, but I totally miscalculated the time it would take to get to downtown. I thought we had enough time but we ended up missing our dinner reservations. Frantically calling all the steak places I could find in San Francisco, we were really lucky to get reservations at Alexander's day of for 6:15pm. They were so accommodating in ensuring are food orders would quickly come out from the kitchen, because we had a hard out at 7:40 p.m. to make our Van Gogh exhibit at 8 p.m. This was the fastest high-end eating experience I've ever had, and it was nothing short perfection. We came here for Wagyu steak, and ended up going all out. We were definitely not disappointed! We started with the Hamachi shots, and then had the A5 wagyu tartare, indulged in the caviar service (which by the way is an incredible experience and very very good), moved on to the seared scallop with corn puree, and ended with our Wagyu steak and black truffle mashed potatoes. The seared scallop, A5 wagyu tartare, and the caviar service we're by far our favorite and would love to indulge in those again. Alexander's Steakhouse was such a wonderful experience. Great food and great service. Excited to go back next year!
An incredible experience from the impeccable service to the perfect food! The bread with the wagyu fat mixed butter is out of this world. The Hamachi shot my dinner companion had was mind blowing he said! The complimentary amuse bouche at the start of the meal is an unexpected explosion of flavors. The ribeye and filet were pitch perfect and done exactly as asked. The ribeye with bone marrow on the side was juicy and tasty. The complimentary dessert of chocolate and a blueberry cotton candy was a perfect ending. The service was discrete, anticipatory and never intrusive.
Came here to continue my birthday shenanigans and was thoroughly pleased. First of all I was warmly greeted by the staff. Once seated and order placed they brought a plethora of different samples from the chef. So I ordered the 28 oz cote de beouf with white truffles and broccoli accompanied with bone marrow. The cote de beouf was ordered medium but it was a little too medium at first, so I sent it back to put a little more fire to it. The steak came back perfect, they even added more white truffles and another bone marrow. I also had a glass of sparkling rosé which was really good. The service was impeccable. Couldn't ask for better service. Very attentive wait service, Molly was a great waitress. After dinner they brought out a miniature cake with a candle on a plate that said Happy Birthday Terrill and a separate plate with chocolates. They also gave me this exquisite green apple cotton candy! It was the best cotton candy I've ever had. It's not for sale unfortunately though. Overall it was a great experience and I would DEFINITELY return.
Best date night ever!!! From our host Patrick, to the food, and ambiance. Everything was spectacular!!! I will be coming back again! We ordered the most buttery steak ever that melted in our mouths and the best ribeye ever! The quality, the flavors, the way the food was presented was exceptional. Even the mushroom and truffle mashed potatoes were on point-nothing disappointed us! Will definitely be going here again! Cheers! 🥂
An incredible experience of mastery in each dish from the planning, preparation, and plating to the positively perfect table service. I had the absolute pleasure of enjoying the 11 course Chef's Hitachi Menu and I could not recommend it highly enough. From the moment I walked through the door the level of service demonstrated was absolutely astounding. Dawn, Alise, and the entire staff were informative and attentive, answering each of our questions and obliging every request. Compliments to Chef Eric Upper and all of his team in delivering a most excellent menu delighting each sense.
From the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out, the service was incredible and above and beyond my expectations. My cousins took me here because I was visiting out of town and wanted to celebrate. The chef created this menu with such detail and creativity. From the little details such as the Wagyu butter to the different salts for the steaks from all overthe world, created an amazing experience at this restaurant. The food was absolutely phenomenal. I definitely recommend this place to everyone.
Alexanders Steakhouse in San Francisco doesn’t need another 5 star review, but I have a secret… The kitchen bar at Alexander’s in SF! So good! So fun! You get to see the action in the kitchen. They spoil you with tastings and treats. If you’re dining alone - this is the way to go. If you’re on a date - this is a very interesting way of fine dining. It’s not cheap, but worth every penny. They even gave me blue cotton candy!
The food is expensive but worth it. Easily one of the top 2 steakhouses in SF. Excellent service. Great menu choices. Nice but not amazing ambiance. My only complaint would be the entrance and how it's not clearly marked and the path from the street to the elevator seems a bit dingy for a premium restaurant
Had a business dinner here in Nov 2025. This place is interestingly amazing. A very narrow building but multi-floor. The dining area was on 3. The bar was on 4. Private dining on 5. A cafe on 1. Really cool in my opinion. This is a steak house. The food is meat and various types of it. Some seafood, but this is for the carnivore who appreciates meat. I enjoyed the food and the pairings. I had the bone marrow, and that was delicious. Served right. Also the octopus was perfect. The wine selection was perfect. The service great and attentive. The ambiance appropriate for the location. Easy to get to when in the area. Right across the street from the Macys and other shopping. I definitely recommend this place. Reservations required. Classy but not over the top. Definitely recommended. Would stop in again in the future.
Alexander’s Steakhouse is a total gem for anyone who loves a fine dining steak experience with a creative twist. The steaks were beautifully cooked and packed with flavor, and I loved the little Japanese touches throughout the menu. The service was polished but still warm, and the presentation of each dish was gorgeous. It’s the kind of place where everything—from the first bite to dessert—feels thoughtfully done. Perfect for a special night out.
Alexanders was great. The food was amazing. Took my mom for her birthday. They did not have any moscatos but the sommelier came quickly and found something comparable, a nice dessert wine. She got the halibut which she enjoyed tremendously. We got some wagyu to share with the table which was fantastic and melt in your mouth. The rest of the party got steaks. I will say the cut was great but the knife had trouble cutting through a medium rare. We had the oysters with blueberry vinegar sauce, the steak tartar was to die for and little gem salad which was okay. For sides we got the truffle fries, absolutely delicious and not over powering. Then we also got the mashed potatoes as well as the green beans. For desert we got a couple different options. The parfait, chocolate something and the sorbet trio. Presentation 10/10 Atmosphere 7/10 Atmosphere as stated in other reviews was a little blah. Overall, the food was great. Very pricy but worth it for special occasions. The birthday treat, cotton candy and chocolates were a sweet gesture on their behalf as well.
This restaurant was very good. I wish I had taken the opportunity to have the wagyu or caviar service. Made a decision to eat lighter. So I have the hamachi shots, scallops, and oysters. In my opinion, the oysters were overpowered by the mignonette topping. The hamachi shots were delicious but not necessarily shots because they didn't cleanly come out of the shot glasses. There was too much radish on top. Aesthetically it was a great presentation but not practical for actually eating. The scallops to me were just okay. I'm guessing the real bell of the ball for the menu are the wagyu choices which I skipped so, that's why my reading is a four-star for this review. I got the matcha creme brulee for dessert. I just didn't enjoy the texture. Matcha typically makes things taste a little grainy.
Romantic steakhouse with dim lighting. They offer halal wagyu from Australia and it’s a nice treat from the standard beef cuts offered here. They always start off with an amuse bouche and their Hamachi shots are some of the best refreshing appetizers. I love the salt tasting plates that they bring with the cuts of meats. The wagyu cuts we had were smooth and delicious, like butter. If you have dietary restrictions, let them know beforehand, as they do sometimes add non halal wagyu fat to their butter and many of the appetizers are made with animal fat/ alcohol. They were able to accommodate for our dietary restrictions and for celiac. We celebrated our anniversary here and they gave us a celebratory dessert. We always get the soufflés, which are made fresh and try their desserts. And at all Alexander’s they end the meal off with cotton candy. Make reservations for a special occasion to make sure you get a table and for special occasions, they will give you a handwritten card with a dessert at the end. Be prepared though, Alexander’s is pricey compared to other steakhouses. I believe they were rated with 1 Michelin star.
We had a great experience with Albert as our server Friday evening. All the flavors were wonderfully paired, the menu had just the right amount of options without feeling overwhelming. This is definitely a place to go treat yourself, it can be considered pricey if you're not used to fine dining like this. My husband and I enjoyed an Porterhouse Steak together, a side of truffle mashed potatoes (so good! A must have!) as well as a side of the asparagus. We had escargot as our appetizer, and the S'mores dessert! Thank you Albert for such a great experience we will be back. 04/14/2023 Friday 7pm
We had the best anniversary dinner. Everything was beautifully plated. Amazing presentation and so so so good! You really get what you pay for. My partner and I both got Chef’s Tasting which comes with 8 courses. We also ordered a few drinks on the side which were very good and also had a beautiful presentation. The servers were extremely attentive. They saw me struggling to take a selfie with my partner and immediately came to the rescue and got us some amazing photos at the table. We are genuinely in awe of the service, the food and the drinks. We also received a to go box (1each) of a small snack to take home that includes a small jar of butter and jam and a tea bag. The experience does not end until you are home. Thank you to the servers and to the chef for an amazing, unforgettable experience. It was definitely worth the price.
This is the home of my partner's favourite steak. I can see why! Luxurious evening, for sure! Nice steak options to pick from. Nice thick cuts. Well seasoned. Excellent sears. Consistent quality. Aged meats are well prepared here, flavours are enhanced well to accentuate the richer body of flavour. Good standard sides. Good portion for sharing. Good sauces. Lovely modern, classy interiors.
Amazing food, very curated and exceptional presentation and flavor. Amazing wine and cocktail selections! Do try the wine pairings if you get the chefs tasting menu - the Sommelier is very knowledgeable. Special shout out to our lovely waiter Alessandro. Even in training, he provided excellent service - very proficient in his knowledge and really made our night! The manager was also very attentive and welcoming. All around a stellar experience. 10/10 will come back.
Love this place. Food is awesome and service is amazing. I took my wife here for her Birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We ordered the hamachi shots and had some courses and steaks / prime rib. Everything was prepared perfectly. Social Distance made all of our dining experiences more intimate and private; we felt much more special and eating indoors. All wait staff were in masks and were so gracious to us. Will be back!!
Alexander’s is steakhouse by name, but for us it was more of an experience! The Bone Marrow & Escargot was delicious, the sides were equally delicious…. Now, we get to the meat. Due to the $$ amount listed on the menu and the way the menu reads at a glance we were under the impression that we ordered a 30oz. steak, it actually ended up being 3oz. of wet seasoning & 3oz. of dry rubbed seasoning. Don’t get me wrong, the meat was Amazing and Delicious BUT if I’m going to pay as much as we did I prefer to not leave hungry. Was definitely a Great Experience!!
The steaks were excellent, service was mostly quite good (3 people asked if we wanted water…but it took a long time to order, and we weren’t quite sure who our waiter was for a chunk of the time). We got two fillets, for my kids, and one of the A5 Wagyus for me. Honestly, the wagyu was good, but not sure it was worth double, I think it was also slightly over cooked, closer to medium than medium rare…it’s not the full Japanese steak experience…it’s decently close, but not that insane like butter experience of proper Japanese steak. The other steaks were really excellent, and would go back just for that, they were cooked perfectly.
I recently visited Alexander's, and I was really impressed. The steak was amazing — perfectly cooked, super tender, and packed with flavor. You can definitely tell they use high-quality meat. The staff were also super friendly and made the whole experience even better. The vibe of the place was great too. The only small downside was that the portions were a bit on the smaller side, but honestly, the quality of the food made up for it. Definitely recommend if you’re in the mood for a great steak.
Photos will not do justice for this place. First of all, I am bad at taking photos and secondly, I was trying to enjoy the evening so I forgot to take proper photos. For those who have seen my other reviews, I do not give five stars just because there will always be room for improvements unless I find that perfect 5 stars place amd share it with you. Alexander’s came very close. The general area is not so bad but I will probably not walk at night around unless if I need to. The restaurant is nice inside, it is certainly a business casual type place and it is not a quiet place. Not necessarily a bad thing, you can feel the energy and good vibes but if you want a quiet place this is not it. What makes If you are looking for steaks that are good and cooked right, this is certainly a place you should visit! The prices are reasonable for the regular steaks and it does get pricey when you go for the Wagyu selections BUT if you have some money to spend or celebrating, then it is certainly worth the little splurge, because the Wagyu steak is great! Well, if you stick with the starting serving of the Wagyu steaks at 3 oz. then the price is still very reasonable. Because my wife was hungry, we went up a few ounces so it drove the price up, but it is certainly very worth it!! At least to try once. I just ordered a prime rib amd it was also good and cooked right. I did try a slice of Wagyu and it is a different level of steak! We have been to several steak houses around the Bay Area and other cities including Dallas, LA, San Diego, and Las Vegas, I will say that Alexander is at least on my top 10. Where it shines the brightest is with its service! The moment we sat, we were given a complimentary non-alcoholic drink for my wife and I followed by a complimentary appetizer. It actually got me a little full before our order of appetizers arrived. We ordered the pancake caviar and Wagyu tartare for appetizers, both were delicious! Followed by our steaks, which I mentioned were cooked right and delicious. We were seated on the top floor which was full but the server paid attention amd checked on us regularly. Everyone who brought the food on our table were courteous. We ordered dessert along with latte. My latte took a tad longer and when I mentioned it to a lady who brought our dessert, she took action and made it herself brought it to me personally, apologized, AND made our dessert complimentary!! Are there better steakhouses around San Francisco? Yes! But because of this wonderful experience in service and good food, we are already planning our next visit with friends this time. Give this place a try! I highly recommend it!!
Every single plate tasted so so good! We still remember that butter and bread we had, omg so good, and even more when we topped it with the truffle mash. This was our first time ever trying Kobe beef, although it was good, we were satisfied with the ribeye that we ordered to compare to. Good stuff all around.
My girlfriend and I had our anniversary dinner at Alexander’s in SF. The restaurant new it was our anniversary based on the reservation information and gave us complimentary drinks and dessert (and a card!). We did one chef tasting, 5 course meal, and an individual meal order; normally the entire table has to do the tasting menu but the restaurant made an exception. The main course was a 20oz ribeye steak, which I enjoyed. The server took our mushroom side prematurely thinking we were done but that’s okay; we were basically done and didn’t insist on keeping it. The cotton candy at the end was complimentary, too, and apparently a standard thing at Alexander’s. Plan for a long dinner as we spent about 3 hours, which was longer than I expected but it didn’t feel that long. We didn’t get alcohol above and beyond our free drinks but I would say the bill was still pretty expensive, which wasn’t surprising; I suppose I would say I’m not sure the experience meets the cost but I wasn’t disappointed either. It would have been nice to try the wagyu but we avoided it because it didn’t seem like the right bang for the buck; if I could do it again, I would have found a way to work it into our meal. The staff and service was good overall and I’m glad we gave this spot a shot.
It's been a while since I've dined at Alexander's in SF and it looks like some changes have taken place. Mr. Joy wanted to go to Alexander's for his birthday, so off we went to to this steakhouse. Upon arrival, we were led upstairs and enjoyed a view of the dining floor, exposed kitchen, and cocktail bar off to the side. After a few minutes, they offered us a welcome beverage, which is always a plus. We also ordered a $16 Toki Blossom, which was refreshing against the heavy beef dishes. They started us off with a green complimentary amuse bouche on a whimsical spoon. It was a burst of flavor, literally burst in my mouth. $11 Wagyu Pâté - pickled green strawberry, pickled mustard seed, sourdough: Great! We each had this one bite dish. A perfectly squared off pâté on a squared off toast point, topped with tart, pickled notes and a single radish. I could eat a whole plate of these. $26 Squash Blossom - summer squash, wagyu chorizo, jimmy nardello, yuzu kosho: Good! A festive looking plate, but fell a bit flat with a single fried stuffed squash blossom, and a smattering of diced zucchini on the side. The wagyu chorizo added the most flavor to the dish. $185 Ichibo 6 oz. - Ibaraki Hitachi Japan. A5/zabuton: Great! 6 simple slices of a leaner cut with a nice layer of fat on top that charred nicely. Tastes great on its own, and even more fun to try with the adorable salt duo it came with. I believe it was jade salt and Himalayan pink salt. There was also an egg shaped side of mashed potatoes. $36 Australian Truffle Mashed Potato - Australian truffle, horseradish, chive Good! Very creamy and you can definitely smell the truffle. $99 Premium Prime 18 oz. Ribeye - brandied cherry, porcini sott'olio, bone marrow Great! The ribeye itself was delicious and had beautiful grill marks on it. The bone marrow was good, but the brandied cherries were overwhelmingly sweet for me. The dish looked nice, with the bone marrow atop a large bone-in piece of ribeye, and bone marrow was decorated with tiny flowers and greens, albeit a bit useless. $25 Maitake Mushrooms - shallots, parsley, red wine Good! Savory, sweet, meaty mushrooms topped with fried onions $21 Matcha Soufflé - raspberry cognac coulis, raspberry ice cream, fresh raspberry Okay! I wasn't a fan of Alexander's soufflé before, and I am still not. Firstly, the eggy flavor of the soufflé is pretty strong, and a bit soggy, not enough of a risen cake texture. This is pretty common for most underwhelming soufflés. Secondly, the matcha flavor was pretty faint. I tasted more raspberry coulis than matcha. They might as well call this raspberry soufflé. $14 Carajillo - licor 43 Spanish liqueur, espresso, Bacardi 8, orange: Great! A nice coffee beverage to end the meal, and the golden coffee beans on top are not bad to look at. Lastly, we ended with a complimentary cheesecake with a lit candle as the birthday treat. There was also a chocolate square on the side that read 'Happy Birthday.' Very nice! The lettering could have been a touch nicer looking though. Great steakhouse, especially if you're looking to shell out money to try out some interesting Japanese cuts of beef. Not sure I'd try any of their tasting menus, since those didn't include any of the cuts of beef we were interested in. Overall the meal was pretty good, but the restaurant just felt a bit cold.
Think modern steakhouse atmosphere and service with a twist on the menu with japanese influences. Definitely a fine dining experience and the price reflects that. Steak was cooked to perfection as expected. Food quality and taste were good as well. Nothing to write home about but a solid meal. Service was top-notch.
Had an amazing bone in ribeye here tonight. Best steak for a while. Sides were excellent too - if a little large for one guy. Wine by the glass selection was great and service was first class. So why only 4 stars. For a while now I’ve had a policy of deducting a star when the restaurant management add surcharges to the bill. Here it was a 3% San Francisco surcharge. I strongly believe that these costs should be in the price of the food - just like all other costs are. So the food and service were 5 star - the restaurant management not.
Overall: good food and friendly staff in a minimalist environment. We ordered the chef tasting menu. The appetizers were delicious and delicate (the octopus was particularly good). We had the filet and ribeye, which were good but not particularly special or spectacular. For the dessert, they brought additional sweets which was a nice add-on. We went there for my birthday and they brought an additional (quite delicious!) cake.
Good but certainly not great. If this is the best steak in San Fransisco then I'll eat meat elsewhere. Bar staff could not have been nicer. The place itself is warm and the music is a nice touch. They have a full stocked bar. I'm a tequila drinker and they have the G4 tequila but for reasons not explained the bartender told me he couldn't pour it. Odd to say the least. I ordered a bone in New York, medium rare. I asked that it be done Pittsburgh style with a hot charrred outside and a a warm red inside. Again, I was told no go as they have no way to get the steak that hot. It rang true as my steak was on the cold side. It was also a good 1/4 fat. They end the meal with cotton candy and a nice sweet chocolate. All in all fun and warm just not great food.
The service was really good however their dry aged steak and appetizers didn’t live up to the standard. Steak was very dry and didn’t have any flavor at all. We also ordered Japanese Wagyu however we found it overpriced for 3 oz. Overall an okay food experience. Find it a bit overpriced for what it is.
This place is definitely over rated. If you're gonna pay the price of $200/person for the chef's prefixed menu, you expect the food to be a tad more vibrant & flavorful. The food could've been better, majority of the dishes lacked flavor & seasoning especially the steak (I added a bunch of salt, pepper, & some kind of beefy butter they served w/ bread onto mine just to get a bit of flavor) so 2 stars were taken away. The staff were very nice & slighty informative about the menu.
Went into this experience with high expectations. Considering their menu prices. Left underwhelmed. Appetizer was bland yet beautifully plated, could’ve used salt or citrus. Steak was asked as medium rare, it came well done, the reissued steak was medium rare on the outside but raw next to the bone. Highlights were truffled mash and bread plate. Great waitstaff that want to do the right thing, but sadly they’re underserved by the kitchen.
Supposedly among the best steakhouses in San Francisco, but we left disappointed. The service was good, but the quality of the food did not meet the same standards. Had the NY strip and roasted ribeye. The steak was ok. Temperatures were perfect, but I felt the crust lacked char. The roasted ribeye was a little rare and tough towards the middle. The crust was coated with way too much salt. Considering all the raving reviews and price point, I expected much more in terms of quality.
I really feel bad giving this place a 3 star, but unfortunately that's what it earns. Customer service was great but their food was not what I expected considering it's a steakhouse. I love steak and know a good steak when I see it and eat it. The ambience is great, ordered a margarita and the drink was ok. The mushroom was great, steak was a bit to dry and kinder aaaa never mind. The Salad was good, wasabi mashed potatoes not too crazy about. The extra mile for birthday card was a good gesture. Dessert was good and cotton candy was a great accessory. Overall nice place but I don't see myself going their again.
I had a solo dinner - a steak, side dish and a cockta to drink. Cocktail - super Steak - the main reason I arrived, was done exactly as I asked, but a ~18oz New York steak (bone in) was served with many inedible parts around (except the bone). Considering the bone, I expected to have around 14oz, though I don't think I had more than half the weight of the steak. Sidedish - Broccolis that were perfectly done. Overall - disappointed from the quality of the steak (considering the price per oz was the highest I had for bone in New York steak in SF)
Really disappointed with the overall dining experience here. Cooking a steak to temperature, doesn’t excuse the lack of seasoning or the attention to clearing tables. Loved the whiskey and wine list.
so I Had being wating to try this place for a while and we made our way to the bay on a Sunday night first of all the place alwas close to empty at 6 pm should be dinner rush oir reservation was at 6 for total of four of us mu wife and two teens we all had a type of steak some appetizers and a salad bow to me the mist memorable bites came for the simple wedge salad and their little 12 dollar bread and butter (in most places would be complementary) but it was really good I had the 130+ porterhouse 45 day dry age or that's what I was told my wife had the file my kid had a bone in ribeye and my other kid had a diferemt 10+ Oz steak.... first of all presentation seemed a bit cheap nothing fancy or pretty on the plate my med rare steak was cold and look sad no zizzle or any marking of greatness the bone in steak for my younger kid was tough and very bland the other two were more tender and had some flavor mashed potatoes seem ok fries and mac and cheese alittle bit better we had hope for dessert but nothing seemed spectacular so NEXT time I want to spend 700 in a family meal I'd be visiting the steak house in walnut creek Ruths Kris I think it's the name they steaks are amazing and the way the present the meals are far superior than this place server was nice place looked ok bathroom not the cleanest but was ok I guess I was hoping to be impressed base on the reference I had. but in reality texas road house had better flavor and at least you can make a mess on the ground with peanuts and feel relaxed OVER ALL FOOD JUST BARELY OK FOR THE HYPE SERVICE NICE FRIENDLY GUY ALLL OF OUR STEAKS SEEMED A BIT UNDERCOOK AND DEFINITELY UNDER SEASONED.....
The atmosphere is cute for a date. The service was great. The steak lacks flavor or anything interesting to warrant the price. I seldomly cook. Maybe once a month. I’m confident I make better more flavorful steaks than this from whole foods cuts. Out of the A5 Wagyu charcuterie, I found 2 of the items to be novel or interesting. The rest of it was not noteworthy. Keep in mind $30 will get you precisely 6 small bites. You should get one plate per person if you plan to get this for whatever reason. The $75 truffle fries were a huge let down. I expected this. How can fries be that much and deliver. Somehow I was still let down here. The truffle was good. The fries (the canvas) here were very ordinary. I’ve gotten better fries at burger joints. The small desserts were free which was appreciated, but again I didn’t find anything here noteworthy. Cotton candy is playful but simple and was not elevated at all. There were some smaller bites which were just good. The coffee was pretty good. The wine was good. Overall, I left feeling as if the experience was being carried by the service and atmosphere and that if you had transplanted that place to a more modest location with the average service, the pricing for this food would somehow seem even more outrageous. The food should either highlight the ingredients in a flawless execution manner or provide me with a unique tasting experience for which to remember. I don’t feel like either need here was met. My advice to the restaurant here is focus more on creating something memorable or interesting rather than focusing only on fancy pretentious ingredients, otherwise your repeat clients will be few and far between. I do not recommend going.
Went here for corporate dinner. The restaurant is located outside of the downtown area and had to Uber. The restaurant interior is beautiful. I was disappointed with the dry aged beef. I ordered medium rare and was served medium well. The meat was chewy and lacked flavor. The wine selection is extensive but overpriced. Only two bottles at $150 and $160 and the rest were all over $300 or more.
Visited Alexander's for a birthday. In some ways they went above and beyond, in others, we were a little miffed. This definitely has the feel of a classic steakhouse in both decor, service, and presentation, which could be a positive or a not depending on what you're after. The new space is a bit generic but nice, although it felt a little empty and stuffy on a Saturday night. The staff however was very positive and pleasant and we enjoyed their wine recommendations and interactions. Cocktails were sweet but still good. The wine list is Burgundy-exhaustive. Appetizers were enjoyable. The two misses were a really long wait in between our appetizers and entrees with no apology, which seemed especially odd given the mostly empty restaurant, and then a tough and undercooked steak, which was the main event. For a $100 steak, we expected more, especially given it's the specialty. I imagine Alexander's would have gone through the paces to make it right and refired a new one to the requested temp, but after waiting nearly 40 minutes for it, there is no way we were going to wait any further. We very much appreciated that they still served a candle and small dessert even though we decided not to order any dessert; that was a very nice gesture and was very appreciated. I think this could be a much better experience, maybe we got an off night. We did not try any Wagyu, their specialty.
I had the Porterhouse steak, which was just okay — nothing special. We also ordered the Wagyu filet, and it was a complete disappointment. It wasn’t juicy at all, didn’t taste like Wagyu, and felt like a regular, cold piece of steak. Honestly, it tasted like any average steak, not what you’d expect for that price or quality.
The customer service is not bad… the food was mediocre to be honest nothing special… make sure you check your receipt before paying they “accidentally” were going to charge me an extra $500 for wine I didn’t order I let the server know and he corrected my tab. They do have two halal steak options
We were a group of four people and the total including tips was $1080. The service was very slow, we had to ask for menu multiple times. It’s quite loud and the ambiance is not classy at all for such an expensive restaurant . The space between table and seat was uncomfortably narrow. We ordered two kinds of wagyu beef, the quality didn’t meet the expectations of the hefty price tag. The scallion pancake and sea urchin appetizers were good but tiny. The fillet steak we got was good but you could get similar quality for 80% less money. Overall, a disappointing experience.
