Opinions de Angler San Francisco
The roast chicken and sea beam are very good, both have crispy skin and wonderful sauce. We ordered quick lunch which includes oysters as appetizer, main course and dessert. It only costs 55 per person before tax and service charge which is incredible in value - we received great service, enjoyed high quality and good portion of food.
We did a chef's menu there for our anniversary and really enjoyed the food. The amount of food was a lot and so delicious. They take care of us really well and the experience of the atmosphere was really, really good. I think the only thing that could be better in chefs menu was desert.
I just had the most amazing experience eating at this restaurant. The salad was very good and this is the first time I’ve ever had frog legs. The frog legs taste just like fried chicken. This was Alo the second time I was asked about food allergies which I appreciate . I highly recommend this restaurant. I recommend to make a reservation if you want to eat here because they only accept reservations
First time eating Angler and it was an amazing experience for lunch! The ambience is warm, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the food was impeccable. We shared: 🦪Oysters - their mignonette sauce was so unique. Very light but packed flavor! 🥬Salad - Fantastic! Variety of fresh greens. Light and bright 🐟Sea bream - love the char grilled flavor and the accompanying sauce 🍞Rolls - don’t sleep on these even though they are a fluffy cloud 🍟Fries - the homemade ketchup was on point! Not overly sweet. 🍦🍨🥥 - we tried all the desserts. the sundae was soooooooo gooood. the cacao nibs and caramel. the coconut dessert was my favorite! the presentation was cute, the coconut ice cream was so airy and flavorful. Some wizardry ✨ They were super helpful with our gluten-free person at the table. My only note is having one more GF substantial side option for lunch since rolls & fries are not. Can’t wait to come back!
We went with the chefs choice tasting menu and every dish was delightful. So delightful, that I forgot to continuing documenting past the frog legs. I was especially a fan of the Oysters, Sea Bream, and Trout, Shinko Pear & Shiso. Honorable mention to the scallop (though I’m not typically a scallop fan). Special shoutout to Rafael, who really brought the whole experience together with the best service.
the “cook for you” menu at angler is well worth the price! there were no standout dishes but the food was consistently great with massive portions and loved how everything touched the fire. service was top tier, with each server explaining the dishes throughout, and loved the ambiance. overall, would highly recommend angler for special occasions and would come again! pro tip: they encouraged us to pack up the dishes if we were getting full, surprising but delightful oysters: fresh & creamy shisho tuna bite: refreshing with great texture ceviche: another high quality dish, great creamy sauce raddicio salad: wish they chopped it for us but one of my highlights and a unique dish! you’ll love it or hate it frog legs: another standout, perfectly fried scallop: the cream sauce was top tier & scallop perfectly flaky mushroom: tasty, crispy, franks hot sauce type cut through the other rich dishes parker house rolls: solid dish but have had better in the city sea bream: fantastic, lemongrass marinated; smoky scalloped potato: too rich and dense for me sundae: must try! crispy cacao nibs with salted caramel sauce was great
Wow. What an incredible meal. We got lucky enough to put in our names night of and get a bar spot. If you have the pleasure of getting taken care of by Sarah I promise EVERY recommendation she gives is perfection. We had the raddichio, roasted leeks, one scallop, and the sea bream. We got to sundae too, and honestly ignore the price and send it. So good. Pro tip, ask for extra caramel on the sundae. 100% worth it!
Angler is an awesome spot for seafood in SF. Everything tastes super fresh, and the flavors really pop. The oysters are especially good—some of the best I’ve had. Even the non-seafood items, like the bread with butter and the salad, are surprisingly tasty. The dishes are creative but still let the seafood shine, which I really appreciate. Service is excellent—friendly, attentive, and never stuffy. It’s definitely a high-end restaurant, but the vibe isn’t overly formal. You can relax, enjoy your meal, and just have a really good time. If you love seafood, this place is absolutely worth checking out.
Really enjoyed the food and dinner experience here. The service was outstanding. We opted for the tasting menu where the food was chosen by chef, each course arriving was a nice surprise! The oysters were nice and fresh, the scallops were massive and tasty. The other dishes were equally tasty and well cooked. Unsurprisingly there is a very comprehensive wine list. We had a couple of bottles of Californian white selected by the sommelier, both were really good.
Wonderful experience having the chef’s choice courses here. We love every dish. My favorite is the crispy skin whole chicken, very nice! Desert is also a highlight. Also really wide and great wine selection. You gotta take a bottle if coming here! The wine guy really know his wine - super helpful! Only complaint is that our white wine glass is so brittle and two got shattered during our dinner here. Another thing is the place is much noisier than most other similar restaurants.
Had the tasting menu for two with my boyfriend, Jay and Jackie were attending to us and couldn’t have been more hospitable. Jay paired us with the perfect wine choices for each platter throughout our five course meal. Each dish was explained perfectly and all of our curious questions were answered :) Jackie was awesome and seriously made sure our water glasses never fell empty. The food was delicious and had such a great flavor and charm. We will definitely be coming back, thank you for making such a special night a moment we will always remember <3
What a place! My boyfriend and I had the tasting menu here on our last evening visiting San Fran. They were extremely accommodating with my gluten and egg allergy and I don’t feel I missed out on anything. To drink I had a recommendation that was not on the menu, Shiso Sour, it’s made from a sweet leaf and was the best drink I have ever tasted in my life. I am not a huge drinker but I had to have more than one. Make sure to make a reservation in advance as it fills up quickly. The bathrooms are pretty cute and clean with aquatic themes.
I went to Angler on Saturday afternoon for a birthday brunch for my mother, and it was absolutely incredible. The interior is stunning with the roaring fire hearth and those gorgeous views of the San Francisco Bay — such a perfect setting for a celebration. The service was fantastic — swift, kind, and so attentive without ever feeling rushed. We started with the dry-aged crudo, which was bright, refreshing, and the perfect way to kick off the meal. The buns with seaweed butter are an absolute must-try — soft, buttery, salty, and just ridiculously good. We ordered a wide selection of sides, and a couple of standouts for me were the leeks with macadamia and the hen of the woods mushroom — both packed with flavor and beautifully prepared. And, of course, we couldn’t leave without trying the famous soft serve, which was the perfect sweet, light finish. Angler made the afternoon feel really special. I can’t recommend it enough if you’re looking for an unforgettable meal in SF.
Such a fun dinner experience in San Francisco with delicious seafood forward fare. We chose to have the chef select our dishes for us and left full while also wanting more at the same time. A few of the highlights included the Norwegian trout, frog legs, scallops, Parkerhouse rolls and the soft serve sundae. The service was also incredible with everyone super friendly and attentive. Highly recommend checking out angler if you’re in San Francisco.
Decided to treat myself to a nice dinner the Friday before the half marathon. The staff all made me feel like I was the most important patron they’d ever had. From the attentiveness to remember small things in passing conversation, I felt like I was among a group of friends. The entire kitchen staff was admirable to watch as they executed dinner service with calmness and precision. Food was absolutely exquisite with a great blend of courses varying between land and sea. Thank you for a lovely experience!
Celebrated my birthday at Angler this year, and my brother and I had a great time. It was his first experience at a Michelin-starred restaurant, and he really enjoyed it. Christian and the team were so hospitable and attentive—it truly made the night memorable, and I’ll definitely be back. I was also happy to learn that for dessert, they were able to make a smaller version of the sundae since I knew I wouldn’t be able to finish a full one. Standouts: Hand-Dived Scallop, Grilled Sea Bream, Radicchio, and the Sundae.
This is definitely on the higher-end side, with the level of service and attention to detail you’d expect from a top-tier restaurant. The black cod was good, but everything else was genuinely outstanding—particularly the scallops, which were perfectly cooked. Cocktails were spot on, and the wine selection was excellent, with helpful, unpretentious guidance from the team. What really makes this place stand out is the relaxed atmosphere. The space is sleek and polished, but not the slightest bit stuffy. Lively, fun music gives it a totally different energy to most Michelin-starred venues. It feels special, without the stiff formality.
We came here for their Valentine’s Day dinner prix fixe menu. It was $265 a person. We also got the caviar service for $140. I want to start off by saying that our experience started out great. Most of our dishes were phenomenal and probably one of the best meals we have had. There were a few downsides which I will list below, but I don’t want that to take away from the good potion of our experience, which is why I only took one star away. Keep in mind that this is a hefty spend, but could be worth it. Our dinner started out great, waiter was attentive and had suggestions we really liked for drinks, we started with the caviar service which was bites of banana bread with a spread that I think was also banana flavored. The idea was to eat the caviar on the little bread bite with the cheese spread, I think all of the ingredients were great on their own, caviar was great, and bread bites were great with the spread as well, but together the banana flavor took away from the caviar taste in my opinion. Moving on to the courses, the salad that was on the menu was bitter which was fine but it just not what you would expect from a restaurant in this caliper, the lobster risotto was good but lacked some flavor. The rest of the dishes were pretty phenomenal, the steak may have been one of the best steaks I’ve had, the down side was that we waited 30-40 minutes to get our final entree (the steak and potato) before the dessert. All tables around us had gotten theirs and were already done. Within this waiting period, the waiter didn’t check in at all and we had no drinks or food for that 30-40 minute period. Dinner started at 8:30 and we left around 11pm, that’s how long it took. Outside of that I still think it was one of the best meals we have had and would recommend. I just wish we left with an exceptional experience after spending $900+ for two people.
Good food. Great crudo and scallops. Service aas great for the most part but some mishaps on dairy free desserts. A solid choice in SF.
5 of us, all fish lovers, came for dinner and we weren't disappointed. Most of the dishes we chose were delicious and beautifully presented. The oysters, trout, blue fin tuna, scallops, and sea bream were all outstanding. We also loved the leeks. The hen of woods mushroom and signature potato dishes were not great. Desserts were good, particularly the ice cream. The service was excellent and the sommelier was truly wonderful helping with our wine choices. The decor was not appreciated as we were surrounded by mounted animal heads, not what one would expect in a fish focused restaurant. If it was less expensive, I would consider a 5 star review for Angler, but at the very high price we paid, I have greater expectations.
Delightful lunch in the city: oysters, cajun frog legs, sea bream, and hen of the woods mushrooms. Oysters, sea bream, and mushrooms were my a favorite and I enjoyed the frog legs as my "first time trying". Service was exceptional. The lunch atmosphere was enjoyable, busy but not too loud, and we had a nice seat near a window. The price fixed lunch is a great deal given the quality and great for a business meeting over delicious food.
We had tried Angler a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. So much, in fact, we came back for our Anniversary. We had the chef's choice menu again and it was just meh. Food - both times we came the first coarse was oysters. The first time we had 8 oysters from mutliple areas and this time only 4. The blue fin tuna ceviche style dish with the flash rice cracker was good as was the salad and the scallops. The raddichio was memorable last time, not apart of the chefs menu this time. Frog legs and skate were interesting choices and not very good. The seasoning on the frog legs was good, but it was a miss. The skate was not good and one of the last courses. Even the rolls did not taste very fresh this time. The food was just okay and did not meet our expectations. Especially for the price we were paying. Service - It was okay and just missed in weird times. Everyone was incredibly nice and friendly and I known wanted to do their best, bit things were just off. There were a couple of times where one of our plates was swapped out for a clean plate but not both. So one time I had remnants from the Blue fin jelly ceviche on my plate while the other dishes came out and my spouse had a clean plate. On at least three occasions, there was a delay in the courses and then we got two at one time. For instance, we got the scallops and frog legs at the same time. It was a little confusing and seemed odd. We have eaten at several nice restaurants with pre fix menus and may have had high expectations:. Things were just off. Not.sure we would try again.
My visit to Angler for my mother's birthday was unfortunately a disaster from start to finish. The meal began on a sour note with the tuna appetizer, which was overpoweringly acidic and reminiscent of lemonade. The main courses of lobster and sea bream did little to improve the experience, as we later suspected they were not fresh. Compounding the culinary disappointments was the service. Our server was unfriendly and rude, which cast a pall over what was meant to be a special occasion. The bill included a 20% mandatory tip and an additional 6% SF mandate fee. For the level of service we received, these mandatory charges felt particularly unjustified. Both my mother and I developed severe food poisoning, experiencing diarrhea and vomiting. We can only conclude this was a direct result of the seafood we consumed. This was not just a bad meal; it was a hazardous one, made worse by the unexpected fees. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this restaurant to anyone. This place definitely does not deserve a Michelin star.
