Came here for a dinner with my friend for Super bowl weekend. I was so blown away with the freshness of the food and overall taste of everything! Jose, Milito and Sergio did an amazing job with the oysters. We loved all of the food we got and our drinks. I look forward to coming here again whenever I return to San Francisco!
Shellfish isn't normally my go-to, but this meal was delicious. There was a line, but we had only waited between 20-30 minutes. Service was attentive, quick, and very welcoming, with the overall ambiance being great to eat in, especially with it being in the Ferry Building. Would highly recommend for any seafood lovers.
We had a great time here. Amazing view of the bay and the oysters were so fresh! We got the mix so we could try the different types and felt like it was a good call. The drinks were good too!
Great sea food. Located in thr Ferry building. Line ups can last 30 pr more minutes.
I visited this restaurant with an old friend during my first week in San Francisco. We spent hours talking, enjoying the view out on the deck, having a few drinks, and eating their delicious food. I had the fish and chips with a Pim's Cup and Coastal Spritzer. I was impressed by the size of the fish strips - I feel like most restaurants skimp on the amount provided - and their drinks were refreshing even with the slight chill outside. I would definitely come back for the views, the food, and friendly staff.
My mom and I came to Hog Island Oyster Co. for a late Sunday lunch and had such a wonderful experience. Since it was just the two of us — and we arrived between lunch and dinner — we were seated quickly, which was a great start. We were lucky enough to snag an outdoor table, and the setting could not have been better. The view of the bay was gorgeous, especially with the sun starting to set on a sunny afternoon. It was the perfect day to be sitting outside. We both ordered the clam chowder with bacon, along with a side of bread to share, and everything came out incredibly fast — much appreciated since we were starving. The chowder was absolutely delicious: rich, comforting, and perfect for a winter day in San Francisco, especially enjoyed outside in the sunshine. The service truly made the experience even better. Our server, Bolo, was fantastic — friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and checked in at just the right moments. He made sure we had everything we needed and brought such great energy and vibes to our table. Overall, it was a lovely meal from start to finish. Great food, excellent service, and an unbeatable setting. We would absolutely come back, and I can’t recommend the clam chowder enough.
It was little chilly outside on Saturday afternoon with tons of people, but waited & end up seating outside. Again it was little chilly, but we held on through the weather. We ordered 1 dozen oysters, high water type which had lots of meat on it and had the squid salad couldn't believe had so much squid in there, It was wonderful! Also the clam chowder with fresh Manila clams in there with side of French fries. They're all delicious and their service was great. The oysters were nice and clean without any shells, where the vinegar shallots was great! We would definitely come back again. You gotta check it out!
I was suspicious when fish and chips arrived in 7 min but man oh man they were delicious. Perfectly crisp and tender fish. Fries aka Chips were equally perfectly crisped and seasoned. Great atmosphere overlooking the SF Bay. One note the suggested tip is pulling from the total after tax.
Absolutely outstanding seafood. We tried the oysters and the mussels, and everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. The oysters were very tasty— exactly what you hope for. But the mussels were the real highlight: the sauce they come in is unbelievably good. We ordered bread and butter on the side, which made it even better. I also highly recommend the house-made shrub drink — it reminded me a bit of kombucha, refreshing and full of flavor. Overall, this place exceeded all expectations. I’m genuinely impressed and would come back anytime.
Every time I’m in San Francisco, Hog Island Oyster Co. is my go-to spot. The clam chowder is outstanding, the oysters are incredibly fresh, and the cocktails are expertly made. Paired with friendly service and a beautiful setting, it’s the perfect place to enjoy the best of the Bay.
This is a great place for seafood in SF. There was a short line at dinner time but it moved fast. I personally like that they don’t really take reservations. The oysters are tasty and fresh. The wines we had were delicious. Service was friendly and attentive the entire evening. The server even washed the abalone shell that the ceviche was served in for me to take home. The location is fantastic. It doesn’t get much better than waterfront dining along the bay.
Incredibly fresh oysters at this bustling spot right in the ferry terminal. No reservations taken so at busy times you might need to wait a bit. But service is very fast (maybe too fast?) so you are in and out fairly quickly. The oysters are the standouts. You feel like they have been plucked from the waters outside the window, which perhaps some were! Oh, a nice and creative N-A drinks menu too. Always a good feature for those of us who don't drink and want more options than water or soda.
Hog Island Oyster Bar, bloody brilliant! The baked oysters with garlic and Cajun spice, absolute flavor bombs, rich, briny, cooked to perfection. The albacore, fresh, clean, melt-in-your-mouth amazing. The steamers, sweet, tender, swimming in a gorgeous broth. And the fried anchovies — crisp, delicate, not overly salty, and yes, eat the whole thing head to tail — a proper must-try. And don’t be sloppy, the bread is essential for soaking up every last drop. If there’s a queue, it’s worth the wait, and for God’s sake, sit at the oyster bar! That’s where the magic happens.
Hog Island Oyster Co is a must-visit in San Francisco! We started with the sweetwater oysters, and they were some of the freshest, cleanest, and most flavorful I’ve ever had, absolutely perfect. The fish and chips were golden, crispy, and not greasy at all, with tender fish that melted in your mouth. And the clam chowder? Honestly, it might be the best I’ve ever had. Rich, creamy, loaded with clams, and perfectly balanced. Service was friendly and efficient, the atmosphere was lively without being overwhelming, and the views of the Bay make it even better. This place nails it on every level. Can’t wait to come back!
Had a fabulous light dinner after arriving from the UK. Sat at the counter as a lone businessman but, the staff were chatty, friendly and polite. All the fish was very fresh, presented well and cooked just right. The green leaves salad was large for one but fresh and well dressed. All washed down with a couple of glasses of Riesling which complemented everything. It appeared hugely popular which is always a good sign but as you can't reserve a table allow plenty of time as there is only a queue system. I only had to wait about 10 minutes on a Saturday at 19:30. Well worth a visit.
Right near the ferry landing on the water side of San Francisco’s Ferry Building, Hog Oyster Island Co. offers an easygoing spot to enjoy fresh seafood. The rustic seafood stew was warm and flavorful, packed with a mix of seafood in a rich tomato broth, plus some good bread to soak it up. The shrimp po’ boy came on a soft brioche bun—crispy shrimp, tangy sauce, and a nice balance of textures. The grilled oysters with garlic butter and Cajun spice were smoky and rich, with just the right kick. Our server—whose name we didn’t catch—was friendly, quick, and clearly knew the place well. He mentioned he’s been with the restaurant for over 10 years, and it showed in how smoothly everything ran. Simple menu, great views, and a comfortable setting make it a solid stop if you’re in the area. Pro tip: parking near the Ferry Building can be tricky. Try downloading the SpotHero app to snag inexpensive parking nearby—it saved us a lot of time and hassle. I paid $10.75 ! Yes, $10.75 for garage parking for 12 hrs but no in and out privileges.

This place is an absolute treasure. The seafood is so fresh, and the oysters are succulent. Busy but worth waiting for. Very helpful service, nice drinks too Enjoy!
Yes, it's touristy, but also delicious, with great views and friendly staff. Go early to beat the line. We enjoyed an outdoor seat which was lovely.
We got in line 20mins after opening on Saturday morning and waited another 25 mins for a table of 2. There were tables of 4 but they don’t seat you there. We ordered the fried Brussels sprouts and rustic seafood stew. Both were good. The Brussels sprouts were fried well and not burnt. It was sweet and paired well with the cheese and fried onion, only gripe is that there was a pool of oil at the end. The stew had amazing flavour but a bit in the tangy side as it you can tell it was cooked with a lot of tomatoes. It was hearty with a very good variety of seafood such as lingcod, clam, squid, and shrimp. The servers are very efficient and food comes very fast. Would come back but wouldn’t exactly wait in line for a table.
Oysters obviously were phenomenal, wife had fish and chips which was also surprisingly a great texture and tasted fresh and delicious. I only wish the bread and butter was served warmed up, definitely would be a welcome addition
Visited for dinner whilst in the area. Located at the back of the ferry terminal building. We didn’t have a reservation but were seated inside quickly. The restaurant has an industrial feeling to it. The food was good enough, I would have liked a bigger portion of mussels. A decent selection of beer. The service was a bit slow but the waiter was friendly enough.
Great spot. Service and seating efficient. We were seated within 15 mins even though we were 20th in line. My favorite was the clam chowder. Very tasty, creamy and filled with clams. My 2nd fav was the halibut crudo. Great appetizer to start our meal. Also order the fried anchovies, peach salad, and the chipotle garlic grilled oysters. Went non alcoholic and order the house fresh lemonade (refreshing) and the macha coco drink. (Iced Sweet and creamy). Would love to come back and taste more options on the menu.
