Què diuen els clients de Chalos
Chalos is loved for its delicious empanadas (especially the Carne Dulce and Champignones), churros, and friendly service. The owner, Chalo, creates a welcoming atmosphere. Some find the empanadas small for the price, and some churros undercooked.

Great burrito and empanadas before taking family to the zoo! Sight glass coffee is great too, highly recommend
The best food I had while in San Francisco! We tried the sweet meat (carne dulce), spicy meat (Carne picante) and cheese and mushroom. So delicious. We also tried the churros with the house carmel sauce. Crunchy and sweet. The dulce de Leche latte is made with local beans and was very smooth. We will be making a second trip before we leave!
So glad this place moved into the neighborhood!!!! First thing, Empanadas are ah-mazing!!!! Secondly, great coffee a stones throw from home! Thirdly, fresh, piping hot CHURROS!!!!! The ambiance is awesome with bright colors & tons of natural light making it a great spot to grab a bite & do some work or read a bit. Lastly, the staff & owner are super welcoming & friendly. Of Note: they also have some slammin’ breakfast sammies :)
Who doesn’t enjoy a good empanada? Wether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner this is the place to get warm, crispy, made to order good empanadas. We tried a few different flavors and we liked all of them. The only thing I would recommend would be some salsa, this are great as is but some good salsa to dip would have complemented the empanadas well. I liked the hot chai and my friend had an iced chai with oat milk that she really enjoyed. Their churros are the best and they are made to order. We will be back soon.
Ecuadorian that lived for a short time in San Francisco ☝🏻 I got to meet Chalo, who is an amazing person, he makes the place really cozy and welcoming for any Latino. Used to go with someone special I cherished memories with. Him, being born and raised in California, loved the place and the vibe. He totally felt right at home as well, no doubt. Great food, I’m missing the dulce de leche latte. Can’t wait to go visit again.
Wow I was not expecting this to be so dang tasty! I stumbled across Chalos as I was super early for my interview.i figured maybe get a coffee and possibly an empanada. Oh boy was I taken back. The staff here is super friendly and recommended that I get the latte. Then I sprung for the spicy empanada. The vibe here is nice lots of seating but not over crowded. I sat at the big table so I could go over my notes. But instead I started to write this review. The latte came out nice and hot with amazing taste. Then a few minutes later the empanada arrived. Very crispy but a soft crisp the filling was delicious very flavorful.Well if I get the job in the area I will be a regular!
I recently tried Chalos' Empanadas and I'm absolutely blown away! These empanadas are a true taste of culinary artistry. Each bite bursts with flavor, and the variety of fillings is mind-blowing. From the classic beef to the Chalos special (artichoke, cheese, bell peppers and ham), there's something for everyone. The crust is perfectly flaky, and you can tell that every empanada is made with care and passion. The staff is warm and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. Chalos has become my go-to spot for a delicious, satisfying meal. Don't miss out on this gem!
Great selection of fresh empanadas; both traditional and California inspired. Great ingredients and food quality. Try the hot chocolate drink and the churros!
The crust-to-filling (lots!) ratio is perfection. Baked or fried, these empanadas were so, so good. Ambiance and service match the excellence of the food served👌 Encourages socially engaging customers by being a laptop free environment. Delicious things consumed this visit- - chalos special latte- dulce de leche latte - chalos empanada (#15) - spinach and cheese empanada (#10)
Chalos is now open!! They serve delightful churros and empanadas in the Outer Sunset. They also have other items, coffee, tea, sandwiches and beer and wine. The churros were deliciously crisp and very tasty. We’ve been waiting for the opening for the last month. The empanada (carnitas) we tried was also devoured- I only got one bite because my children liked it so much! Clearly, it wasn’t overly spiced.
Love the Churros & Empanada! Not many options for Churros but sugar with leche dip is pretty bomb still. Didn't try the savory one. Empanada was pretty good. Taste like the Brazilian deep fried version and very fresh ingredients. Great ambiance to hang out. Mocha was so so...hot cocoa was so so....the drink options are standard Cafe stuff but definitely could be stepped up. I would come back for the Churros and Empanada. Just as good if not better. Tried the tres queso today and it was bomb if you like cheese. Has blue cheese in it, so very pungent. But the rest were good as usual.
My girlfriend and I love their empanadas. We crave Chalos at least once a week! Hands down the best empanadas we’ve had. Our favorite is the baked sweet beef. We always get the baked options. The owners are super nice and great to talk too. Highly recommend a visit. Grab an empanada, coffee, and head to the beach for some views.
Yum! Their empanadas and churros make a perfect meal. The empanadas are offered both baked and fried (my preference). Each one is stamped so you don’t have to play empanada roulette with the fillings. Much appreciated as a vegetarian! 6 different meat-free options too. The churros with dulce de leche sauce are a great way to end your lunch. Feels like being back in Argentina again! Their currently open for delivery and takeout. Fantastic service. Quick responses to emails and very kind owners. Will definitely be back!
The empanadas here are to die for. We particularly loved the ham and cheese and the mushroom ones. You can also order them half-baked so you can stick them in the oven at home for extra freshness. If you order 12, you get a 13th one for free. We also tried the mini-churro. Too good! And the best thing: the owner's care and attention. Chalos is a nickname for Gonzalo, his name. We will definitely be back!
Stopped by today and ordered 4 empanadas- the spicy chicken, the ham and cheese, the three cheese, and the spinach and cream. They can be ordered as baked and deep fried, which obviously we went for deep fried. They were sooo good and crispy. We also ordered plain sugar churros for the kiddo and a Dulce De Leche Latte that my no liking coffee boyfriend loved. Staff was friendly and our food was ready once ordered super quickly. A definite repeat visit will be done when in San Francisco again, and maybe a visit tomorrow before we head out.
My brother and I just visited Chalos today—and can't wait to return again! Their breakfast burrito was delicious, but what really stole the show were their empanadas. My brother had the chalos empanada with ham, cheese, and bell peppers, and I had the champignones (mushroom) empanada. Both were SO tasty and flavorful! The owner was friendly as well! I highly recommend this place.
Great place! Small-owner providing a different feel in the Outer Sunset with their wide menu of delicious items. Particularly, I go for their "Spicy" chicken empanadas and a cup of coffee. Especially during a pandemic, I appreciate their consistent focus on customer's and food they offer. To that, they have a "pay it forward" coffee program to pay it forward to other strangers--thats awesome
Great looking shop. Owners are from Argentina hence the empanadas! Don’t start serving it till 10am. Cam a bit too early. They were making it in the back. So I will have to come again. But I got the café bombón which has condense milk and egg and cheese sandwich. Will be back for the empanadas!
Step in and order at the counter with a person or the kiosk for quick computer ordering and payment. Once you order and pay, they’ll call you up for your food if you order to go (not sure about table delivery if eating there). I got the churros with cinnamon, and if you want a good carb load then this is the perfect pick… not too sweet, crispy outside with soft interior. This place fills with sun if the sun is out, leading into noon, so it gets warm inside. There are also some small seats outside. Remember — no laptops, tablets etc. and no outside food or beverages. They have clear signs stating this.
It can’t be understated, the food (and coffee) here are phenomenal. It’s like I was transported back to my childhood with my mother’s cooking. Nothing is dry, everything is delicious, and service is amazing. The owners and staff are very attentive, quick, and open to chatting. Can’t beat the service nor quality of food , especially for the affordable price. This is a must visit spot!!! Highly recommend the vanilla cold brew…I had two.
I tried a latte with oat milk here and it was really good! The staff is super friendly and welcoming, which makes the place even nicer. They only have pastries on weekends, but the café itself is very cozy and definitely worth visiting. Next time I’ll make sure to try more from their menu. Highly recommend stopping by!
I’ve been wanting to try Chalos all year and finally got around to it, and I’m so glad I did. The empanadas are so flavorful. I got the top-rated sweet beef empanada, and my friend tried the chicken empanada. We got the fried versions, and I really recommend. The texture from the extra crunch elevates these empanadas to the next level. The staff are kind and able to recommend what to order if it’s your first time. Overall amazing experience!
I wish I found this place sooner. I got the Breakfast Burrito with sausage and bacon. I also got the #1 Carne (baked), and #13 Mushroom and Cheese (Fried) Empanadas. All were excellent. Friendly and professional service. I'm coming back to try the rest of the empanadas, and I think the churros are calling my name too.
I came here with my friend on a monday around 1:00pm and the place wasn't busy. The service was great, the owners are very friendly and you can tell they care about the place and their costumers. You can order through a tablet or with the cashier. The place has a few tables, and a couch area to sit and enjoy the food. My friend and I liked our empanadas a lot. My favorite one was the spicy beef empanada and my friends was the chicken empanada. The empanadas where juicy, flavorful and fresh. We will definitely come back to try the churros:)
I have to say, I fell in love with empanadas, especially the spicy chicken and beef. They're amazing and delicious! I would rate them a 1000000/10. Also, the best churros I've tried so far in San Francisco. Highly recommend!!
We came to try their empanadas, which were tasty and delicious. We tried the Beef, Sweet Beef, and Mushroom. When we were ordering, we saw the "End of Day Pastry Sale" for only $2 each so we bought some pastries too. Pro Tip: Depending on how many pastries they have at the end of the day, you can check around 4pm or 4:30pm for the "End of Day Pastry Sale" and enjoy some baked goods for cheaper.
Delicious! I really loved this place! The staff was super friendly and helpful! The owner is from Argentina (and played rugby!) The empanadas were well prepared and super flavorful! Chalos offers them both baked or fried! And a great overall vibe in San Francisco's Sunset District! A bit off the beaten path BUT well worth the visit!
The best empanadas and churros! Carne Dulce, and Champignones empanadas are a must try. The regular carne and chicken are also really good! Wish we could have tried them all! The churros are cooked to perfection with a crunchy outside and soft inside 🥰 We loved the Dulce De Leche, it paired nicely with the churros. We took some empanadas to go and they warmed up perfectly in the hotel microwave. Don’t forget to wrap them in napkins while warming up. It’s also a really cute place, highly recommend stopping by and dining in if possible. The owners are super nice people!
Love Chalos! I’m Argentinian and these are among the best empanadas I’ve ever had. The carne empanadas in particular are amazing but you can’t go wrong. This family owned business knows their stuff. Nice vibes and great location. Feels like a slice of Buenos Aires!

I had a great conversation with Chalow while I was waiting for my empanadas. They are so delicious!! Highly recommend stopping by for some tasty food.
I freaking LOVE this place! I usually order for take out but I’ve also eaten there. The empanadas are so YUMMY, my favorite ones are spicy beef and spicy chicken. Service is lovely and so is the coffee!!!!
Great empanadas, delicious milanese sandwich and Havanna alfajores. We will be back. The owner is very nice too. Ask him about Argentina.
Breakfast burritos are awesome, will return for them. Weirdly though, there are an abundance of signs on the inside about food from outside and laptops that made me feel unwelcome even though I had neither my laptop nor food from outside with me.

The café is cute and their empanadas are delicious. I had two baked empanadas, one with chicken, one "Chalos" special which has ham in melted cheese and I like it better. Technically no walk-ins so one has to order online but that system only offers empanada in trios and there are no options to get just one or two empanadas, which is what I was looking for. Fortunately The lady at the shop was very nice and took my order.
I love their empanadas. You can get them baked or fried. They’re so tasty and yummy. I tried a new drink this time and it reminds me of a snowy plover but a cola version. I’ve had their churros before and it’s definitely better with the dulce de leche, but they’re not my fave. I don’t know what this says about me, but I love Disneyland churros. They’re still the best IMHO. Cute place, friendly service, open later than your average coffee shop, with beer available as well.
So yummy! I love empanadas and these were no exception. The churros were on point with the dulce de leche sauce! I wish they had better pricing for a box or bundle of empamadas cause at $4 an empanada a box can be pricey. I was sharing with housemates and they went quick! Maybe they can add a deal for a dozen or half dozen or something. Otherwise. Staff was friendly and kind. The place was well decorated and in a nice neighborhood close to the beach.
Great breakfast burritos with crispy bits of tater tots. You can add your choice of bacon or sausage for an additional fee. They provide a pager for when your order is ready. Be aware, it's a "no laptop" place. Parking is a bit constrained with the Taraval street car track renovation underway (Feb '24).
Just had the churros - found them too uncooked with almost raw dough on the inside. If you like them this way then great. But I like mine more crispy. Employee at the desk when we asked about food allergies (nuts) was very rude (think she was training a new employee that day - new employee was very nice).

There is one good thing for sure that put a note on each table that laptops are not welcome and old fashioned way of communication is highly appreciated. The food is fine, not many choices. So, good occasionally for a bite, but I wouldn't go there for a meal. The seating area is small, but there are few tables for sharing.

The empanada was tasty but it was almost $7… literally ate it in 3 bites. I am a small woman and don’t eat much but this was a shock. I won’t be going back for that reason.

I’ve wanted to try this place for a long time, and now that I have, sadly I won’t go again. The empanada was tiny, and the price was not in proportion. The flavor was lacking. I had the jamon and cheese. I have had way better empanadas than this. The person behind the counter was not welcoming. He didn’t let me know that my drink was ready. When I found out that he had placed my drink in a different area than I expected, there was no smile nor an explanation. He was not the person I would have chosen to greet a customer.
