Original Italian spot in the Sunset, completely different vibe than your typical SF restaurant. Highly recommend the lasagna and fettuccini. All pasta made in house, traditional style. Enjoy!
This place is a classic Itallian restaurant with a San Francisco flair. On Taraval just off 19th Ave. it’s definitely a neighborhood restaurant, the kind of place where locals inevitably run into someone they know. The staff is tremendous. They’re friendly, knowledgeable and exude Itallian hospitality. It has a very tall ceiling, the walls are painted deep red with a gold trim and there are insets for the Roman statues that mark it as a true Italian restaurant. The first thing you see when you walk in is a long deep well stocked bar that runs along the entire side of the restaurant. It’s the best place in the city to have to wait for a table. Cozy up to the bar and have a conversation with one of the regulars who are always there. Make sure to order a cocktail. The bartenders know how to make a drink the right way. The food is classic Italian/American in the best sense of the term. I’ve never had a bad meal there. The desserts are out of this world. It’s best to go there when you’re very, very hungry.
Italian go to in the local neighborhood. Guests are never disappointed with the calamari. Wait and kitchen staff were awesome to let us try it two ways with the red and cream sauce! The gnocchi was as expected.
This place has the best and freshest quality of ingredients, meats, flavors and selection of food to choose from. You need reservations for dinner because it gets really busy in the evening. They may have large parties that are celebrating a special occasion at the same time you are there. The waiters and helpers are very professional and accommodating. Although the restaurant may be very busy you never felt rushed and the waiters are very personable. Great service and your water glass or coffee cup is never empty. The Charcuterie for two is amazing. The meats and cheese are so fresh it almost melts in your mouth. You can tell it's high quality meats because the taste is not the same as the kind of meat you get at the local deli counter. You can actually taste the flavors that are in the meat and it's so good it's hard to describe how good it is. Every single piece of salame, prosciutto have their own distinct flavor I ordered their filet mignon. They cook it perfectly and the meat is so tender it melts in your mouth. It's the best filet mignon i ever had. Better than the best steak houses. You also get a baked potatoe and veget with your order.Gold Mirror prides themselves on the best quality of meats, ingredients, and veget. It's a neighborhood restaurant and what a gem this place is. Who would think you would find such fine restaurant and food without the big price tag like the big name steak houses? This a gem to find and try.
The best thing about this restaurant is the atmosphere. It feels like an SF restaurant from 30 years ago. There food is good, but not foodie... More traditional Italian restaurant good. If you want a classic SF experience at a place that is mostly locals, this is the place.
Best Italian food ever! MY husband and I have been going to the Gold Mirror for 30 years. We don't live in San Francisco anymore but we always make a point of having a meal here when we visit. The chef once sat at our table and told me exactly how to prepare the bechamel sauce. It will always be our favorite spot for dinner out.
Lasagna was best Italian so far. Pizza had a nice chew. Service was great. Love the decor. Hope they don't modernize it too much.
Amazing. so glad they reopened.
Was traditional Italian food. Well established in neighborhood. Upgraded menu with modern twist. Excellent wine and beer selection. Desserts still tops.
Excellent service and food. We had the fried calamari appetizer that was cook perfectly. We also had the veal parmesan and the eggplant parmesan, both amazingly delicious. Highly recommended!
From the outside you can't really tell what this place is. But once you stop inside there is a small bar and dining room work delicious Italian food. It's good for families, groups, parties and dates. The staff is very polite and attentive.
Where to begin?! Johnny and the rest of the staff was fantastic and the food was outstanding. What a find!! I got lucky by arriving when it opened, otherwise you should make reservation. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Excellent service and overall experience. Food was really good or amazing. I especially enjoyed the calamari, the red wine, the garlic bread, and the cannoli.
This place is amazing. Lived nearby for years and never went it. Finally did, and what a surprise! The food is simply stunning! Good bread, creamy mozzarella, the most tasty veal and sole, and super fluffy cheesecake.
Excellent food. We tried just about everything on the menu. Stand outs were definitely the lasagna, the roasted artichokes and the carbonara. But everything was really tasty. Highly recommended!
I love this restaurant.First of all it's a fun experience just to sit at their bar which brings me back to the 50s with it's retro look and liting..it's fun just to sit and have a cosmopolitan or whatever and have their great cheddar and Ritz crackers and listen to frank sinatra..what's more fun than that. The hospitality is is there very Italian ...I know as my family had three Italian restaurant throughout the years....The veal scalapini is the best in town...I know because I've tried them all.The chief is really an expert at making sauces taste with great flavor. The canneloni is also great.It. is cozy and and easy to be in with it's nice waiters.I give this a five star for sure. Its worth it to try it out...you will want to go back.
Gold Mirror is my favorite Itallian restaurant. It offers classic Itallian American food in an old world setting. The ambiance is a perfect combination of elegance and comfort. The waiters wear tuxedoes, but you can wear blue jeans. It's a neighborhood gathering place, the kind of restaurant where lots of patrons know each other because they grew up together. The first thing you'll see when you walk in is the bar. It runs the entire length of the restaurant. It's a serious bar with a serious bartender who makes the kind of drink Sinatra used to order. The food is delicious ---- every menu item is made of fresh, top quality ingredients cooked to perfection according to old Itallian recipes tempered by American tastes. It's tempting to eat too much of the fresh, warm bread that just came out of the oven, but save room for the calamari appetizer or the homemade soup of the day. The pastas never saw the inside of a plastic bag. They were made in the kitchen and they will melt in your mouth. The fish was purchased that morning from the guy who caught it, not a food broker. The beef is grass fed and juicy, and the lamb is so good that people who don't like lamb think about ordering it next time. And then there's dessert. You cannot skip dessert. Don't argue with me. I don't want to hear it. Eat dessert. Any dessert. It doesn't matter which two you pick. They're all good.
Great food and traditional Italian ambience. Neighborhood gem. My party all loved their entree: salmon, filet mignon, roast chicken, chicken fettuccine, and vegetables rigatoni. I highly recommend this place.
Wife and I can down to drop off some supplies at an event, and stopped in have dinner. Very pleasantly surprised with the service, Jocelyn & Francesca were a delight and SUPER attentive. Water and delicious warm bread came quickly (one of the things I look for) The food was delicious! My wife wanted chicken parm over pasta instead of the veggies and they were happy to accommodate. They did and amazing job and it was a great atmosphere!
This is a gem of a neighborhood restaurant. It's always bustling and the staff is friendly and warm. The portions are exceedingly generous and the pastas are very fresh. If you can get a table upstairs, go for it as it's fun to look over the dining room below.
We had a family reunion at the Gold Mirror. They provided a wonderful menu selection and plenty of seating for our 50+ family members. We had a great time and the service was great. I'd definitely recommend them for big parties like ours.
An excellent choice for a fancy dinner! It has really good food that have a non-normal taste. I enjoyed eating the ravioli and the pizza. I also enjoyed the bread they gave in the beginning. Another great dish was the nutella pizza, which had a sweet flavor, plus a yummy crust.
I have driven by that place a bunch of times and never went in until just the other night. Very good! I'm very picky about how my food is prepared and they did a very good job. They also have a full bar for really good drinks. It reminds me of the type of restaurant my father used to bring us to, maybe a little old-fashioned but still a great experience.
Tonight was my second visit to Gold Mirror. I chose this restaurant for a date based on my prior experience. We were duly impressed. The escargot was phenomenal, and our entrées delightful. Service was friendly, the cocktails delicious, and dessert exquisite. We will undoubtedly return many times.
The name is dumber than one can imagine. I thought it was Chinese. The food is for sure some of the best Italian food I have ever had in my life, and I'm old. The lasagna was absolutely spectacular and the appetizers were the same. We had escargot in a creamy sauce that were wonderful, and we had the Burrata and heirloom tomato appetizer that was just as fresh as on a farm. We also had house-made ravioli in a white sauce. Terrific. The prices are very reasonable for the exceptional quality. Our service was first-class and Italian.
This place has such bang for your buck. Their standard cocktails are like $5.50 and their portions are huge. You can easily get a 3 course meal (apps, dinner, dessert) and drinks for 2 people under $80. And its so tasty!
Delicious prawns, chicken sauté sec, lasagna, Spumante, salad and bread. Terrific portions. Worth the 25 minute drive with friend for this meal. Parklet outside suited us fine during Sept/23 Covid surge and it was quieter for in depth conversation. Friend has been coming here for decades. Parked on the street and walked a block.
We use to meet my grandpa here after church He would get a steak and spaghetti or ravioli and cutlets. My Dad followed this tradition too! I had the pork chops and rice and veggies with the beet salad, delicious, my husband had chicken cachitori rice ,veggies and soup. Also very good!
This is one of my wife and I's favorite spots to eat. Crab stuffed avocado salad is our favorite item. The steak is very tasty. Very very tasty. And medium rare was...medium rare. Not rare, not medium. But medium rare. Well marbled, and cooked to where the fat was soft and edible. It isn't the cheapest but great value. Great food at a decent price. 2 people will run you about $80 without desert. But sooooo worth it. We are repeat customers here.
I absolutely Love The Gold Mirror - the food and drinks are delicious! And, the service is top notch! Please reopen!!! I need my fix!!!
This is the kind of place where you want to look nice to match the decor. The service was so attentive and the food was delicious. I'll be back!
We go here regularly. One of the best restaurants in the Bay Area. A real gem.
I have been visiting SF from San Francisco my entire life. We always make it a point to come back to Gold Mirror! Excited to see the renovations.
Drove an hour to get there and it was worth it. Best calamari ever had and the food overall was excellent.
Excellent food, courteous staff and great hospitality.
I had a reservation here for 6 people and we were seared very quickly. Each of us had to show proof of vaccination to enter which made me feel better of dining inside. The waitress was very nice throughout the whole time we were there. I ordered the lasagna and it was the best lasagna I ever had in a long time! Every one at our table enjoyed their meals as well. Definitely recommending this place to everyone I know!
We often walk from our house to this fabled location for special meals. A restaurant that has been around this long has a very good thing going for it. This time we sat outside in the well built dining booths with heaters. We have a habit of ordering heavily so we ordered light and still took food home. The dessert was excellent. Enjoy!
Popped in for dinner randomly on a Wednesday night at 7 and it was lively and full. The food was far better than I expected from the low key exterior of the restaurant—veal parmigiana was amazingly good, tiramisu was surprisingly light and perfect, cannoli were lovely. You can tell things are made from scratch and with care here. We had a lovely waiter Joseph who made us feel like cherished family even though it was our first time. We will be back here often for our special occasions.
I've been going to the Gold Mirror since I was 14, and basically, it hasn't changed at all, which is a comfort. The food is still fantastic and the service is friendly and efficient. The ambiance is intimate, relaxing and beautiful. If we lived closer (we are now several hours away) we would probably eat here at least once a week, like my family did when I was younger. I've had practically everything from the menu, and there isn't anything that's not executed and presented in the most superlative manner possible. The Gold Mirror is truly an iconic Italian restaurant.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. If you are looking for a quick bite to eat, this is not the place. The food is absolutely incredible, and, though it is pricey, it is worth it. The portions sizes are perfect. The staff are all welcoming and friendly, and the whole atmosphere is very authentic and old school. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic, family friendly restaurant.
We made a reservation for dinner here after its renovation. I’m not sure how I’m the only one of the group who had never been. It’s a classic Italian restaurant in the neighborhood. We sat upstairs. We started with the calamari which was lightly dusted so you can really taste the squid. The shrimp appetizer sat on a nice bed of arugula which we also devoured. For our main, we each ordered various pasta dishes including the cannelloni and rigatoni. We capped off the night with dessert wines. What a lovely place!
Fantastic food and beautifully remodeled restaurant with amazing ambience. Great place for special occasion or weekend dinner. Menu included many good options. Definitely a must go.
The Food is so goood!!! We ordered Short rib ravioli, Carbonara and seafood pasta. tiramisu is a must for dessert!!! The service is excellent! The servers Wilson and John take good care of us. We waited 10mins eventho we reserved for 6pm.
Excellent food. We had an amazing beet salad, and meatballs as appetizers. My chicken sauté was excellent along with my wife's lasagna was the best she has ever had. Deserts were home made and extremely good. Pretty amazing place. Plus, the waitress Joselyn was perfect in how she was attentive to our needs and able to connect with us during our conversations. Give her a raise! Another time for Mother’s Day, 2023-05-14, stairway walk in St Francis Wood and then to eat at the Gold Mirror. Another amazing experience. Thanks to our waiter, John. Good job for a special day.
Seems like I was on the beach all day, and caught my limits of fish, gave them all away to the people that showed intrest in them, and even cleaned one because the little scab that wanted it didn't know how to prep it for cooking. The ocean is a great place, but it sure can make you cold, cold all the way through, but luckily the Golden Mirror Italian Restaurant is just a few blocks away and nothing warms a body better than good authentic Italian food. ☆☆☆☆☆ The food was so good I had to go back just to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I took my pal'et Patty Applejack with me to verify the quality, presentation and taste of our meal. Patty said they smashed it! and I agree. 5 stars again ☆☆☆☆☆
Came here for dinner with a group and sat inside. I felt very well spaced from others. My friend pointed out the bar which seems to be from when this was initially a New Orleans speakeasy. In the middle of our dinner, with permission from our dinner guests and the waiter, we were able to sit at the bar to experience it. In New Orleans style, we ordered sazeracs which were great. All the food was great
It is not surprising this restaurant has been in business for over 50 years. We had dinner on a Saturday night and even though the place was busy service was very good. Our server Eddy was very attentive and always there when we needed him. The food was all prepared exquisitely. We ordered escargot, calamari, tuna tartare, pizza, veal saltinbocca, the seafood special (dorado that night), tiramisu, and chocolate brownie. My 3 guests and I all left very satisfied with the food and service. Their wine list is not very big, but offers good variety and value. I will certainly be back.

Love traditional Italian. I'm here for my Sunday supper. Cannelloni app, lasagna Bolognese, pasta of the day, catch of the day, tiramisu, bottle of Pinot noir. Loved it all. Excellent!
Great experience. Very old school place with great food, impeccable service, and nice atmosphere. They should refill sodas. No, really YOU SHOULD! Highly recommend this local neighborhood restaurant who should start refilling sodas and not charge $2.50 each....no, really....
We live next door to the original owners! Their sons have taken over and have been elevating the food and experience over the last 10 years. We were excited to try the restaurant after they'd been closed for nearly 2 years to do an extensive remodel. 4 of us went for a friend's birthday. The new interior is stunning! Amazing chandeliers. The back bar has mementos ranges across the shelves, and they've kept a tasteful nod to the original "gold mirror" decor. There is an upstairs dining section as well, and friends who've eaten up there tell us it's quieter than downstairs. We had a booth/table right next to the hostess stand, which turned out to be a great spot. Joseph our waiter was personable and made us feel immediately like we'd be well taken care of. The new menu is smaller than before the remodel, which is usually a good thing for quality. The list of specials was also very good. Everyone at the table lived their meal. The only disappointment was that there was absolutely nothing on the menu that was vegan-feiendly. Something that should be easy in an Italian restaurant. It's a minor complaint, but there are a growing number of diners who are looking for vegan options when they go out. Something to consider. The Caesar salad was delicious, we split 2 of them between the 4 of us. I had a veal special with prosciutto and the bread (which is better than ever) got put to good use mopping up the delicious sauce. The cannoli I shared for dessert was also delicious. Pistachio cream, and light flaky shells that were clearly freshly-made. You can spend a lot of you go for the pricier entrees, but you could also order a glass of wine and a pasta dish and spend less. We had a great time and a great meal, and are looking forward to going back to try some of the other menu items. It still feels like the neighborhood place we've been going to for 22 years, but is definitely now an upscale experience. Hope they'll be around for 50 more years!
Such an institution and so happy to have dined here for the first time! All of the good people in The Gold Mirror treated us like family, it is such a warm familiar dining experience and the excellent food was just another upside. Have learned too that I should order a calamari appetizer just for me, not to be shared and anyone in the table who wants it should also get one for themselves! The calamari is just the best: by itself as a starter, as a dip for the warm bread and to complement the delicious primi and secondi. To me, it belongs to all the menu progressions: as antipasti, primi and secondi and possibly also a to-go! Love love this place and the staff that run this go-to SF icon of a restaurant.
Food is delicious. We got the short rib ravioli, and New York steak and calamari. Our bartender Walde made us very delicious drinks and was very helpful with suggestions from the menu for both food and drinks. Really liking the remodel which kept some of the old vibes but a little more modern. Parking isn't the worst but we were able to find parking close by on a Friday night.
Food as good as usual. Don't show up without a reservation, although you may get a seat at the bar, but don't count on it. No longer serving the Calamari Steak (my favorite).
Wow! Renovation is spectacular! Absolutely 1st class! Perfect setting combined with excellent food makes this one of the city's best neighborhood restaurants. New place has a great, comfortable environment. Thank you Gold Mirror for making our neighborhood even nicer...We've missed you!
We came to celebrate my birthday. The service was impeccable. We had the Caesar salad with extra anchovies and the ribeye. Both were delicious.

Old school Italian in this neighborhood gem. A little step back in time. Petrale Sole was fresh and full of buttery goodness. Cannelloni was a little disappointing (a pastelike stuffing). Some really nice wine choices, a fun bar and friendly staff made for a very nice evening.
Good food, good service, parking not so much. Tables were crammed together. Ambient noise excessive for a normal conversation. Old school Italian Fare. Nice bar. I'd go back for special occasions.
Old school neighborhood Italian place. The decor is whack but the food is good. The cannoloni is delicious. The non pasta dishes are good, especially the petrale. The zambiglioni is very sweet and wine-y for my taste.
Ribeye steak was excellent as well as the escargot. Service was good. Friend had seafood pasta in white sauce. Their white sauce is actually butter, garlic and white wine. Lots of fresh seafood.
The food was excellent, but since we didn't have reservations, we had to sit outside. It was warm enough, but further from the restrooms and a little more of a challenge for our niece to find us. I wish we had known that reservations were mandatory.
Food and service great, there were some really loud people at the bar.I am normally pretty easy going and tolerant. I think they were connected to the restaurant and should have toned it down ( rough talk).........just a bit.( even if they are Italians , lol) Again the service and food was great!! The atmosphere was family style and I enjoyed it otherwise.
This was an annual birthday dinner for Juan boy Roller and the food was great but the service was sporadic. People actually went downstairs to place drink orders. And a late chicken dish had an oddly lingering fish taste that was weird. Other than that, everything from the appetizers to the desserts were excellent. This is a restaurant still representing old school San Francisco and it warms the heart to visit. If you need a warm up after COVID life I recommend it.
Great find in the sunset district for good Italian food. The starter bread is too yummy and we had to push it away to save room for our starter Caesar and beet salads. Then the halibut, spaghetti bolognese with meat balls and the short rib ravioli. Food served hot-yay! And we had to try the homemade cannoli. Wine ok. Would definitely recommend and come back next trip to this great city. We found this due to reviews and we concur. Yes we sat outside under heaters
Ended up coming here last minute after another reservation got cancelled on us. Really friendly service that was able to accommodate a large party in short notice. Chicken Parm and the lasagna we're both very tasty.
This is a nice place for drinks or Italian-american food in a quiet part of San Francisco. I tried the following items: -burratta and tomato salad -meatballs over polenta -mushroom chicken fettuccini -lasagna -chicken parmisan -steak -lemonade (drink) -negroni (drink) My favs were the lasagna and the meatballl dishes. The restaurant gets busy so recommend getting reservations. The only things i would say could be worked on would be the attentiveness of the staff (saw some people getting visibly upsey about not getting served, though i did not experience it) and possibly the decor/lighting if that matters to you
Food was very good and service too. Place is small and a bit cramp. Bathrooms were ok and price was a bit steep. They did take long to bring the food but it was so worth it. The food tasted awesome. They didn’t give us a kids menu (guessing they don’t have one) so the plates were adult size and of course the kids didn’t finish their food.
Last Friday evening we had the pleasure of dining there -for the first time in a long while. Service was outstanding on all levels and the food was great too! the only "but" in my review was there was nothing Vegan printed on the menu. My cousin was VERY disappointed and felt very ostracized. I know it's Old School Italian, but this is 2025- almost 26 and it is SF. What they did make for her was lovely but some awareness would be nice, and make her change her mind about going there int eh future.

We sat outside.. so that sorta sucked.. the rest of my party very much liked their food.. but I sent mine back (way too salty) for a plate of spaghetti which was quite nice.
The food is good. However you sit in the dining room like sardines. The noise level makes it hard to converse. The wait staff has to squeeze between chairs to serve tables in the middle of the room.
I've gone here for 20 years, and always enjoyed it's old school environment, surprisingly good food and professional service. The service at our last visit, however, was so inept that we were barely more than a distraction to them. This should be noted by the owners as well as potential patrons. We wanted to order a bottle of wine but ended up just ordering a singly glass because we were halfway through our meal before anyone bothered to check on us, despite our handwaving to get their attention. We liked a couple of the desserts, but ended up not ordering any because it took so long for anyone to check back with us. The sand dabs and soufflé were both good, but the Cannelloni was mediocre, at best. After this many years I'll probably go again, but with far lower expectations than in the past.
Food: -Pizza appetizer 5 stars (out of 5). Brick oven baked, crispy crust, rich mozzarella cheese -salad 4/5. Heavy on the dressing, made the leaves bog down into something close to cooked spinach, but still very tasty -pasta appetizer 3/5. good, but nothing special about it -veal saltimbocca 1/5. veal too thin, proscuitto almost as thick as the veal, no spinach in the dish. Way too much salt, would be more accurately called veal salt-im-bomba. -sea bass 5/5. Excellent, thick filet, dense meat, light oil, light crispy outer. -desert cheesecake 3/5. good enough Service: no real communication with servers (1 not an English speaker), had to ask for menu, no drinks offered. Food served family style not equally distributed. Atmosphere: very noisy - noise from adjacent room, poor sound barrier. Presentation by dinner sponsor hard to hear and slides were unreadable given the screen was a wrinkled table cloth or sheet hanging from a wall. Summary: 3/5 good, worth a visit for some 5 star dishes (but avoid the veal saltimbomba).
The place has really nice decor and the food is relatively good. The service is not good at all. I honestly have had better service at chain restaurants. But it was crowded and perhaps the management is in need of Gordon Ramsey to come by and knock some heads.
The experience at this establishment was a puzzling mix of efficiency and oversight. While the evening began with a prompt pace, the details—and the finish—left much to be desired. The Atmosphere and Service The service initially felt well-oiled, but it stumbled when it came to the "extra mile" that separates a good meal from a great one. For instance, a simple request for two cups of hot water with lemon was met with the bare minimum: a single, lonely wedge per cup. A touch of professional foresight—perhaps a small side plate with extra slices—would have made a world of difference. Unfortunately, the momentum died entirely as the meal progressed. After a 15-minute wait for dessert with zero updates or reassurance from the staff, we ultimately decided to cancel the final course. In a busy dining room, communication is key; without it, the wait felt twice as long. The Food: Hits and Misses The kitchen appears to be struggling with consistency, as the dishes ranged from disappointing to genuinely impressive. • Fried Calamari: A significant miss. The exterior was oily and over-fried to a dark, unappealing color, masking the delicate nature of the seafood. • Pasta Course: While the texture was acceptable, the dish was heavily overseasoned, making it difficult to enjoy the intended flavor profile. • Petrale Sole: This was the undisputed star of the night. Perfectly prepared, light, and incredibly flavorful, it stood in stark contrast to the earlier dishes and showed what the kitchen is truly capable of when focused. The Verdict There is clearly talent in the kitchen, particularly with seafood, but the lack of professionalism in the service and the technical errors in the appetizers make it a gamble. If you go, stick to the fish—and maybe skip dessert if you're on a schedule.
1- We booked a table but they want to serve us outside (45°F). We stayed at the bar. 2- Entrées was delicious. 3- Milanaes veal was more than a disaster ... impossible to eat that. More I ate a small lamp and I was ill for 12 hours. 4- Desserts were very good ... 5- Service wasn't bad at all. Too expensive to be ill ...
Good old style traditional Italian foods but poor service! They seat more customers than they can handle. We had our appetizer came after the main course and pasta came with our main dish. Didn’t even order dessert!
The only reason why I'm rating the restaurant so low is because the service was terrible. I don't know if someone didn't show up to work tonight, but our area of the restaurant was abandoned. We watched other servers in other parts of the restaurant busily serving others but none of them stopped at our table for 20 minutes and that's only because we asked TWICE. At some point someone must have been assigned to serve us and he was nice enough. It's such a shame that this negligent service was our first impression of this restaurant because once we finally ordered (now well after 25 mins after seated), the food came out quickly and it really was all delicious. The calamari and grilled artichokes were excellent starters. The Caesar salad was nicely dressed and served with white anchovies which were nice and fresh and not salty. The main courses of Chilean sea bass, eggplant parm, and lasagna, were all delicious. Because the food was so good I'm willing to give this place another try. Hopefully tonight's poor service was just a fluke.
A bit disappointed with the food after all the hype surrounding the renovations. It was our first time and we’ve heard great things from friends but recently the overall experience was not that great. We ordered 4 different pastas and 2 of them were decent (lasagna and ravioli) but the carbonara was extremely salty. Trust me, I generally like salt but this was overkill. I enjoyed my cocktail but my dining partner didn’t care for hers. She inquired whether it would be sweet leaning and the server said it wasn’t too sweet but, in fact, it was. For the quality and price, there are much better Italian restaurants in SF.
I have been waiting to try this restaurant again since it's reopen. I was very excited I booked my reservation over a month ago and I decided to go with my daughter and her father. You never know who your guests are going to be, never know what they're going through, I chose this place because it has a special place in my heart, but unfortunately I was very disappointed. The wait was over 45 minutes and I had a reservation. Now I'm in the business so I get it, waits happen, but there was no finesse. The door, the host the maitre D's they were very sweet but they didn't know how to de-escalate a long wait I was getting frustrated. There was no manager to come by and say hey I know you're waiting, It's not about buying me anything ,it's just about acknowledging that I came here with my family to celebrate something and little do they know they spoiled it in so many ways. The wait created a big problem in my family with what was going on after We had a 6:00 p.m. reservation. We were only going to stay a little bit but that turned into a whole fiasco because we were not seated until almost 7:00 p.m. We wanted to go there because the food was great and yes it still is and it still has a nice old style sense of Italian service. The door was cool, after waiting but I don't think they understood or know how to handle late tables, I can look at the room and I knew none of those tables were going to turn, so I feel like the seating was mismanged. I'm routing for Gold mi6rror the food is amazing, I think they could pan out these service issues.
I was excited to go back to the Gold Mirror after it’s reopening. My friend and I sat at the bar like we used to do. While, the food was good, the service was not great at all! The bartenders didn’t really understand us, and were not attentive at all. Typically, when your wine glass is empty, the first thing they’ll do is come to refill or ask me if I want another glass. I had to hunt them down to get another glass. My friend ordered two appetizers as her entrée while I ordered the lasagna. Her dishes came out right away and my entrée didn’t come for another 20 minutes. I don’t think the barman understood that we were planning to eat at the same time. Definitely think they need bar staff who are more experienced and more attentive to customer needs. i’m hoping this is just a sign of early day kinks, as my friend and I were regulars for years before they closed down. 🙏🏻

Wasnt too happy with my meal; however it was hosted by a financial person selling us products. So I'm sure it was what he ordered. Penne pasta and eggplant Parmesan. Eggplant parmesan is my Favorite so I was disappointed with their version. It was slopped on the plate no love. I hope that if I ever decide to dine here my experience would be a lot better. We shall see.
It was my first and last visit here. The food is good, but service is horrible. We celebrated my wife's birthday here and in next 1.5 hours the waiter told us what this table is booked by next customer and we have to leave. We met our next guest and it was confusing for him what we have leave that place. My wife's birsday was spoiled
Waited 25 minutes to order drinks. Service was completely disjointed. Food was well below average, and for the prices they are charging a total joke. The only reason this place is still open is all the old heads that have been going here for decades. There are so many other Italian places in the city at this price point that have delicious food and good service. Go elsewhere.
Expected good service and was looking forward to enjoying the food. Waited 45 minutes to get a table. Then we had Oscar, who was unfriendly and very rude. He didn't offer drinks and when we asked what he'd recommend, he just turned to walk away muttering "everything is good"! We then waited what seemed like another 5~8 minutes, to get his attention so we could order. Oscar again, rudely and in a condescending tone said "wait until I take care of that table"! When he got to us, he said "I'm a professional", again rude and just being an a--hole! We had enough of the BS so we left. But not before expressing our displeasure to floor manager, Paolo, who said that he couldn't do anything and I should take it up with Dominic or something like that! Makes you wonder how they can be celebrating 50 years! With service like we didn't get, they may soon be a dinosaur!
Unfortunately not the restaurant that served great Italian food! Sweetbreads, veal parmigiana, etc! Boring and lacks the taste of the past! I am 63, and my first meal there was at age 4! Gone back over the years! Never again!
We were curious so we gave it a chance. Old world environs, which is neat, but the food is definitely very Americanized. Huge portions of food cooked in something other than olive oil. Not sure what. Butter? Calamari steak is heavily soaked in egg so it’s kind of like an omelet. The pasta is okay. Very heavy and not very flavorful past the taste of salt and cheese. The appetizer was meatballs and polenta in a bowl with melted cheese. Everything was really heavy and relied on fat and salt as drivers of flavor. I hoped we would have more of an Italian eating experience here but it’s much more American. For the price, the portions are generous. We didn’t try the pizza so perhaps that is the winning ticket. It was very busy inside so maybe that’s what people were ordering. But for us, we would rather get less food but have it be brighter in flavor and more representative of the original culture from which it stems. Caesar salad was heavily dressed with only one anchovy. Very Midwest American in presentation. Reminded me of visits to Chicago.
We were rushed out after spending $200 on nothing really. The busser was super aggressive and kept asking if we were done and was constantly interrupting our conversation with our server. At the end when we asked for to go boxes, the busser super quickly and aggressively threw our leftover steaks in boxes in front of us at our table. Very rude. We had two steaks and two glasses of wine- but what gets me is how sneaky and unprofessional the server was when I asked for our glasses to be the house red, he went ahead and charged us $24 per glass so we paid $48 for wine we technically didn’t select. The food is nothing to return for- it was OK. Poor management too.
The most miserable thing happened to me on my birthday! Hopefully this is the Billy Goat curse on them. Plus they are selling counterfeit alcohol. I asked for double shot of @Glenmorangie neat but received watered down half a shot.
