Opinions de Fifty Vara San Francisco
What a great place! Everything was delicious. The calamari batter was crispy, flaky and not oily. The mushroom flatbread was excellent with a great crust. The chicken sandwich batter was also really good. We also had the burger, garlic fries and desserts. Everything was delicious. Staff was friendly. Will definitely be back!
First, the ambience is very nice with huge windows offering natural light. Live plants give an earthy feel throughout. I went to lunch there on a Wednesday, so I was seated at a booth with no wait. All the wait staff was very cordial and friendly. I had the burger and I thought it was great. The beef tasted fresh and the fries were hot and crispy, seasoned well. The bright eyes drink was delicious and refreshing. The only opportunity I saw was the dessert, the Tres Leches Financier, could have been a bit more moist. BOTTOM LINE: Solid burger and fries, nice atmosphere, would come back!
I think the almost all eaten fries tells you I was too focused on eating and too hungry to remember about taking a picture. lol Yes, garlic fries were good. The mushroom flatbread was super. The flatbread itself was excellent. I could eat that with a dip even without the mushroom. I think a little something like crushed pepper flakes or fresh crumbled goat cheese sprinkled on top could make it more vibrant tasting. I’m no chef so it’s just my personal opinion. Fantastic service! I sat outdoor which felt a bit chilly. My server said they will be installing outdoor heat lamps soon.
This place is awesome. Staff is super friendly and attentive, the space is so comfortable. Craft beer that compliments the fantastic menu. I had the seared shrimp pasta in the lightest most flavorful sauce. My wife had the burger and couldn't help herself, so good it was gone!
We live nearby and have been going to Fifty Vara since it opened this winter, and it just keeps getting better. We are so excited (and relieved) to have a fun new go to around the corner. We even hosted my mom’s 25-person birthday upstairs and it couldn’t have been easier to plan. Everyone loved the food and the space, and it was a great value. Lately I’ve been loving the steak, the radiatore with shrimp, the garlic shrimp, and all the salads. Service is always friendly, cocktails are fun, and the menu changes enough to keep things interesting. We usually come with our two-year-old, and the space is big and lively with super high ceilings.
We had a wonderful experience! The small bites/tapas were so flavorful - we could have ordered more but were trying to save room for the main course, which was also delicious. The burgers were perfectly prepared. Lots of great options for next time! Wide selection of beers for all and there's in-house brewing equipment, too. The owner definitely knows what he's doing! Plus, the mocktails were flavorful and unique. So happy we got to try it early and can't wait to go back! It's an awesome spot for the community.
We happened to swing by on the soft open, and were very pleased. We enjoyed the creative cocktails, and snacked on the Persian Cucumbers that had a nice Japanese flavoring and a little spice. The flatbread with sausage and asparagus was very flavorful. Service was attentive and both food and drinks came very fast. Even though they just opened, it was a very smooth experience. The atmosphere is both cozy and a bit more upscale than it used to feel in this space. We'll definitely be back!
A upscale casual dining experience. Very modern interior. Service staff friendly and efficient. Food came out in good time. Excellent presentation and quality. Good place for date night, celebrations and everything in between. Comfortable neighborhood spot.
This is the third place in the city where I really enjoy the pork chop. It’s juicy and well-cooked, though I wish it had a bit more flavor. You should definitely try the burger. I loved the onion pickles and the juicy patty! The seating area is nice, chill, and relaxing. The only downside was the kid’s pasta. It came in a small half bowl, which felt a bit too little. But overall, the service was really good. Worth a visit!
Amazing new restaurant in the middle of the Sunset! This is the kind of place I want to come back to for all kinds of occasions - and a good excuse to try all the delicious cocktails and food! The Espresso Martini is probably the best I've ever had, the Dahlia Dell is a straight up banger, and the Pacific Crest is a fantastically complex non-alcoholic option. The salads are great, as are the flatbreads, and there are a surprising number of vegan/vegetarian options. My only gripe is that it's not in my neighborhood, but it's still only about 20 minutes from most spots in the city. Run, don't walk!

The restaurant has delicious food, great drinks, awesome locally brewed beer, and provides a beautiful atmosphere (plant game is top notch). It is a great spot to watch a game, dine with friends and family, and get a high quality meal that tastes delicious. I recommend the calamari, the flatbreads, the burger, the Ahi, the pork, and salad. The food quality is great and I’m glad we have such a great spot in the neighborhood. When the restaurant first opened, we had an inconsistent meal, but the other 3 return visits have been awesome! Definitely give this place business! They are doing it right
This is our best local restaurant / bar. It's less than 2 blocks away from our house, so we really need it to stay good. When FV first opened, I was delighted by the amount of vegan & vegetarian options on the menu! How refreshing! I appreciate that the menu changes so each time we dine, there might be something new to try. On my last visit for dinner, upon reviewing the menu the first thing I said was "Wow, this is really animal heavy..." Then I noticed there were very few vegan or vegetarian options, literally maybe 2 items. Our waiter was very kind and substituted where possible. I'll avoid writing an essay on the eating practices of the Standard American and why San Francisco should be better than that. I'm sure FV reducing the vegan options is a financial decision. I want to keep dining at FV but I need something more than those delicious cucumbers. Other notes: The cocktails and mocktails are delicious. The ambiance, lighting, and overall vibe of FV is perfect. The music is cool, not too loud. I love all the plants and the color scheme. The staff do an excellent job of making us feel welcome and cared for.
Vara Burger is absolutely mind-blowing! Finally, something fresh and exciting among all the usual fast-food spots. The dishes burst with a firework of flavors, and the presentation is excellent. I’m not easily impressed by beer — but they managed to surprise me! A special shout-out to the staff, especially our server Mari. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming. And the interior? A solid 5 out of 5. Highly recommended!
We went in to try a few of the beers that are brewed on premise. We watched the NCAA bowl games and got peckish. Tried the Wings, Calamari, Persian Cucumbers and Mushroom Flatbread. Everything including the beers were great. The service was excellent, very attentive and friendly. Excellent experience. Highly recommend.
My wife and I had lunch here on Sunday to watch the 49ers game. The cocktails and beers were tasty! The flatbread, ahi tuna, and sando was all really flavored! Our flatbread was delayed and they threw some calamari on the house! I love it when restaurants make up for their mistakes, and the calamari, might have been the best thing we ate!
Wow! Unexpected! We lucked out! An excellent dinner, desert, service. Beautiful place, design. Kudos to the interior designer/architect. The plants! Looking forward to our next visit. Will bring more friends for sure. Thanks to all, including the kitchen staff. Well done!

We come here about once a week. They have really nailed it with their service- everyone is super kind and they seem to really be succeeding at creating a community vibe. The food is almost always very good and the place is really nice with all the plants and the light and the beautiful bar. I do find it pricey in certain ways (we always get burgers which are $22 each). That said, we leave happy.
Cool spot with good vibes, great food/cocktails and awesome service. I think the portions could be a little heftier, but the quality of the food and flavors make up for that. It was a pretty dead Friday as it was July 4th weekend, but I can see this place being really busy on a non-holiday weekend. Plenty of parking. Bar area has TVs so we were able to watch our Giants game from our booth. Would go back again!
Really cute place for dinner! The appetizers were pretty average but the mains were really good. The pork chop was probably one of the best I’ve ever had. And the orecchiette was amazing as well.
New restaurant in the sunset neighborhood. Delicious cuisine! The staff was kind enough to allow us to order 2 of the pick-up sticks each just so we can sample the dishes. Will come back again!

I had high hopes for them as our go-to brunch spot. The French toast is dry every time though, the coffee is not awesome, and the few savory items weren't the best either. It makes sense when a restaurant chooses to have not many options on the menu, but they should all be really good in that case. Cyril is a great server though!
