A Rare Find: Still Amazing After 8 Years! If you’re looking for the best sushi in San Francisco, look no further than Fish N Gari. We first visited this "mom and pop" gem almost eight years ago, and coming back today, I can safely say it is still absolutely incredible. The quality here is unmatched—you can tell the fish is sourced fresh from local vendors because every roll we ordered literally melted in our mouths. I went with the 49er Roll, which is a perfectly executed California roll topped with thin, fresh slices of orange. It sounds simple, but the flavors are bright and refreshing. I hadn't been feeling 100% the day before, and this meal was exactly what I needed to feel better and brighten my mood. What really sets Fish N Gari apart, though, is the hospitality. We told the owners we had been there nearly a decade ago, and they were genuinely thrilled to have us back. They were so kind and appreciative, even surprising us with a complimentary dessert of sliced oranges topped with sugar to finish the meal. It’s rare to find a spot that maintains this level of excellence and heart over so many years. Hands down the best sushi in the area. We promised them we’d be back, and we meant it!

Dinner was amazing! Very cute family owned restaurant with very high quality fish, miso soup and the tea was loose leaf tea and was on the house. Definitely recommend going when you’re in Nob hill! It’s hard to spot from the street but definitely stop by for some sushi.

Fantastic experience there last night. We showed up with 20 people without reservation and luckily they had place for us. They set up one long table for all of us, and started bringing beers and sake without us asking, then kept bringing more all night long, taking good care of us. Then they started to bring delicious sushis and rolls. In the end we paid $50 per person, which I found quite reasonable given how many drinks we had, and above all how much fun. The owners were very kind and accommodating.

Fish N Gari is a weekly staple for my wife and I. Their rolls are always fresh and I can't say enough about the service! The chef and rest of the staff are so friendly, and they have a customer for life! I highly recommend the Honey Walnut Prawn and Ocean Breeze rolls.

This is exactly what you want, and everything that sushi is supposed to be about. Fresh fish, perfect rice and no frills, bells or whistles. This was - hands down - the best sushi I've had outside of Japan. Simple food with taste for days; the perfect mix of an older gentlemen behind the glass case with the (fresh!) fish, his wife bringing the delicious bites to the handful of tables, and their (grand?)son doing his homework at the counter. It's far from fancy, and far from trying to be something it's not - it is "just" damn good sushi. This restaurant is in the other end of the city, and I've already been back several times, and haven't had enough yet.

This is one of my go to places in SF. I live in the mission, but still go here for dinner about once a week. You can get excellent rolls at a great price. Its never that crowded so you get seated immediately. The service is good, and they start you out with tea to drink. Just a solid dinner/lunch place.

I really love this place. In the heart of SF in Nob Hill and it’s a local family business, what else can you ask for? The food is delicious, they have a great variety and the pricing couldn’t be any better! I highly recommend if you want good sushi :)

We’ve gotten this via GrubHub a couple times and every time the food has been phenomenal. Then we came in. Vivian and Chris were so great, the rolls are inventive, and the fish was super fresh. My fiancée and I love sushi, we live a few blocks away, and will definitely be back soon!

This is my favorite neighborhood sushi joint. When I say "neighborhood", I mean every sushi bar on Van Ness and Polk and anywhere in between. Small, unpretentious, great quality, and the best lunch box value in the neighborhood. Tom and his staff will take care of you.

I ordered a 3-item bento box spent $22 and was sent overcooked chewy beef teriyaki and tonkatsu. Also the gomae I ordered was tasteless.The restaurant did not apologize and told the delivery service no one has ever complained about their trash overpriced food in 15 years which is a lie based on the garbage that was delivered to my house. I will never order from this establishment again.

As a business, the onus is on them to take care of orders and be on top of your online partners, not the customers. Absolutely insane and terrible customer service.
