Opinions de Flippin' Burger San Francisco
Updated 12/28/2022: Best chicken burger by value in SF. $10. Big claim. Maybe you think I don't know my chicken burgers. This is false. The Competition: Brenda's: Brenda's has better spices on the actual chicken, and I love Brenda's. Maybe it's a better burger, but at $16, it is not 60% better. Foghorn Taproom: Ok, this one was really juicy and delicious, but NOT spiced as well as the Flippin Chicken. It's a thicker, juicier piece of chicken, and I loved their spicy chicken sandwich. All in all, I'd say it's really close to Flippin, but Foghorn is $12. Papa Mak's: This was the 2nd most expensive Chicken burger. Outer Sunset, so sure, this is your best choice out there. And it IS excellent. But it's $14.50. The truth is, SF's American food is AMAZING now. For Flippin Burger to beat the aforementioned places is quite an achievement. The only competition for Flippin's burger's burger is Super Duper and Papa Mak's. I've heard arguments for all 3. All 3 are mentioned because they all have superior meat. Garlic fries are great, but you need to eat them hot. They degrade quickly. Super Duper's garlic fries are more Parmasean than garlic. But in general, all fries are disappointing when you get them delivered. In short, there are only a few places in SF where you can get a delicious meal for $10. This is one of them. And don't @ me if you're some East-sider telling me about some overpriced crud in the Mission. Flippin Crushes them all.
It’s been a while we wanted to try the famous Flippin Burger and we were not disappointed. Everything we ordered (burger, salad, onion rings and fries) was delicious. The onion rings are super crunchy and perfectly cooked. I should have tried their milkshakes, they looked amazing. Next time!
Fantastic value for one of the best fried chicken sandwiches in the city. Huge portion of crispy, tender and juicy chicken with crunchy slaw, pickles and a delicious aioli. And under $10! The garlic fries were crispy, hot and satisfying. And under $5. I hope they're able to maintain great quality and prices- I'll be back.
***I can't stress this enough, this place is one of the only affordable restaurants in the city AND has great food. Please don't raise your prices*** *Update 1 (with preface that I still love this place): last time I was there around closing time (~8pm, 9 is close), I waited for about 30 minutes to get my food. I asked after 20 minutes, and the confused response seemed like they gave my order to someone else. When I finally got home, my burger looked like they accidentally put a mini patty inside a full sized burger. I still give this restaurant 5 stars, but I'd like a full burger in exchange for the mistake. Everything tastes great otherwise, this just seemed like a one off mistake. End of update 1.* *Original Review*: Amazing food, and one of the very few affordable burger places in the city. I go here almost every time I pass Haight. The burgers are great. Everything tastes fresh. The service is pretty quick most of the time, save when there was an entire biker convention ordering all at once. I worked on Haight Street for years, and I always thought it was lacking a dedicated, amazing burger spot, but here it is.
Long time local resident so I'm always tepidly interested in new Haight St restaurants. Is it gonna be a tourist trap or actually good? This place is actually good. Where can you find a legit burger under $10? Burger is solid, great flavor, perfect size, and the large french fry portions are awesome. Onion rings are really good and crispy. It's not some crazy gourmet burger, but IMO it edges out the new gourmet smash burger on Divis if that counts for anything. This spot is surprisingly awesome - I highly recommend it.
Solid burger spot and it adds a lot to the area. I did not regret my double cheeseburger at all.
This place is the undisputed GOAT. While other burger stores in SF charge you obscene prices for a minuscule burger with pitiful fries, that is NOT the case here. Flippin’ gives you a delicious burger with abundant fries and all at an affordable price. The patties are always expertly cooked and the staff is quite friendly. If I had to mention a downside, it would be that my wife would judge me if I ate this every day.
What a perfect day! Just finished a gig in Golden Gate Park at The whale's tale playing some bluesy vibes for the park explorers, chilly but beautiful. Little magical clouds of mist swirling in over the treetops, children jumping and playing in the grass. Then the best burger someone could ask for in Haight and Ashbury! This day equals perfection!
Delicious Hamburgers and hotdogs, and excellent friendly service ! Two thumbs up !
The service makes all the difference. I’m not a burgers and fries guy for the most part, and while their stuff is good, it’s not any better than In-N-Out (the gold standard for anything less than a truly gourmet option). But each of the five or six times I’ve gone here over the last few years, the staff is truly exceptional. Smiling, uniforms on point, helpful, just makes you feel good about eating there. Where do they find these people? I didn’t even realize that young people willingly participated in the capitalist system anymore these days 😂
Great place to stop and eat when in the Haight Ashbury district. Amazing food, great staff and just a solid vibe! Keep up the great work!
I stopped by Flippin Burger and had the Beyond Burger, and it was incredible. Cooked perfectly, super flavorful, and didn’t feel like a ‘fake’ burger at all. The bun was soft, toppings were fresh, and everything tasted high quality. Great location, fair prices, and friendly vibe. Highly recommend even if you’re not vegetarian
Order of fries can easily feed 2 adults. Grill cheese we got was small but tasty good size for kids. Ladies working the front were awesome and on their A game. Very satisfied.
Tasty, juicy burger with great flavor. The fries are more like chips, but they’re really good. Solid spot if you want a satisfying burger.
MAY 2025: Loaded tater tots were amazing! Bathroom is a sight (but a good one) with graffiti walls and koi fish painted on the floor. Don't let the graffiti fool you...it was spotless and well stocked.
When you are craving that burger or Philly cheese steak in San Francisco and want just the right crispiness onion rings or tots, naked or fully loaded. With beyond meat options for the vegetarians, this is a great spot in Haight Ashburn with quick service and reasonable prices.
It was our first visit to Flippin Burger. I was looking forward to a nice classic burger and fries. I got exactly what I was looking for at Flippin Burger today. The Burgers we ordered it took but a few minutes to arrive at our table and were absolutely delicious! All the way down to the toasted buns and perfectly prepared crispy fries. They've got a selection of beers on tap as well which is always nice. I enjoyed a cold and frosty pint of 805. I've got to say this is one of the better burgers I've had in awhile and that's not just because I was famished. If you're in the area I recommend stopping by flipping burger. Delicious food at a great value! We had a great experience on our first visit and I'm confident you will too.
2026 update: Flippin Burger makes an OK burger. It tasted fine. My dinner was a bacon cheese burger with mushroom, egg with extra lettuce, tomato & onions $16.50 with garlic fries $5. Minor nits: Avoid adding bacon $3. At first I couldn't see it. After looking into the burger, was a folded 1/2 slice of bacon. Add an extra patty for $2.50 instead. The patty is small compared to the size of the bun. I pushed it out to take the photo. Cheese $.75, egg $2 and mushrooms $1 add-ons are fine. Garlic fries has no garlic taste. The extra lettuce, onions and tomatoes are $.50 each. Service is fine for a order at the counter restaurant. Original review: Tonight I had their single patty cheeseburger adding bacon, egg and mushrooms. The burger was juicy and it tasted great! The egg was well done and the yolk didn't drip down. Some people prefer it runny but I can go either way. The garlic fries were pretty good with a good amount of garlic. I would have liked more oil on it though. The restaurant itself has a fun hip vibe. It felt like I was on Telegraph in Berkeley or University Ave. in Palo Alto. The place is too clean for Haight St. :) The two ladies behind the counter were warm and welcoming. There were a few other things on the menu I would like to come back and try. Flippin Burger is a good burger joint.
**Flippin Burger is the real deal when it comes to mouthwatering burgers!** From the moment you step inside, you know you’re in for a treat. The vibe is fun and laid-back, perfect for enjoying a seriously good meal. The menu is packed with options, but no matter what you choose, you’re in for a flavor explosion. The burgers here are nothing short of amazing. The patties are juicy and cooked to perfection, with a perfect char on the outside and that tender, flavorful inside that just melts in your mouth. The toppings? Fresh, generous, and bursting with flavor. Whether you go classic or get adventurous with your order, you can’t go wrong. And let’s not forget about the sides. The fries are crispy and golden, and the milkshakes? Thick, creamy, and absolutely to die for. Everything is just so well-done, you can tell they take pride in every burger they flip. If you’re a burger lover, Flippin Burger is a must-visit. Five stars all the way for the food, the vibe, and the overall experience!
One order of French fries is very big. A cheese burger is less than $10 and pretty good. The patty isn’t very large. The buns are light and toasted. I’d go back for a quick cheap meal.

The food here and customer service is always the best!! they’re very welcoming and my experience is always a 10/10! Today my experience was enhanced by the fact we were still able to dine in even though we had some outside food. While we had gotten refused service in neighboring places that did not allow outside food. Again, this place is amazing! definitely recommend :)

Food was good and service was great. Workers are friendly and my food came quickly. I ended up spending $20 on a chicago dog with a $1 hot link upgrade with a side of onion ringz and a %15 tip. Little pircey for a hot dog and side but in line for food pricing in the area and sf in general. Ingredients were fresh and food was quality. They let me use the bathroom before ordering despite the many "no public restroom" signs. I thought that was super nice cause.. i drank a lot of water 😅
Yummy burgers. It’s all around a good burger joint with tasty fries and other assorted menu items
Came in here to get a meal and soft serve for my kids. The burger was good. My only issue was that I had more bun than burger. But overall my kids liked their soft serve and they loved their fries.
Really nice place with the original atmosphere of an American burger place! Fits great in the neighborhood. Food was absolutely delicious! The only not good thing? Does not have a public restroom to wash your hands before lunch so... have hand cleaning wipes with you. Oh, another thing that I though was weird is that they don't issue receipts for orders higher than USD 20,00.
Food here was delicious with great friendly service. Atmosphere had a good vibe with 2 flat screen TVs on each side playing sports highlights. Haven't tried a burger yet but sandwiches and nacho chili tots were off the chain.
The burger, was delicious, but I’d suggest getting a single patty. I ordered a double-patty, and the patties are pretty thick, so it was a bit meaty. I also ordered the chili tots, chicken sandwich, and wings. It was all really tasty, but a bit pricey. If the price point was at in-n-out I would’ve given the food 5 stars, but for this price, I think it’s 4 stars. The service was really nice, and I liked them a lot. I would come back again if I was in the area during lunch time again.
Love their onion rings!! Light, crispy golden brown full ring of an onion (not that awful pressed onion paste some places try to pass of as an onion fing). Other favorites are their tator tots, the loaded ones or the plain, juicy and flavorful cheeseburgers and last but not least are their soft serve ice cream cones. I always get a cones to have while I wait for my to go order. I almost always get my orders to go. The seating is not comfortable, they keep the door open even when it's cold outside so it's frequently quite chilly inside (unless it's one of our recent heatwaves) and it's very noisy. Staff is friendly and efficient. They are generous with condiments and smiles. The tables are vlean and napkin dispensers are kept full even when they are busy.
An ok burger. Nothing special, just served the purpose. Comparable with McDonald’s, may a touch better, but 50% more expensive. However - the seating is nicer, the food comes to your table, the location is great, and they serve wine and beer. (Note that the prices on the older photos of the menu are old)
I was up in the area of Height St. And decided I needed something to eat. Thought I would try this place. I wish I didn't after. Burger was OK, garlic fries were cold, and tables dirty. The bathroom was disgusting. I do not recommend it.
They have indoor and outdoor seating with huge windows that open to the street. Masks are required and you need proof of vaccination to sit inside. It was noon on a Friday and there were a lot of folks there but still plenty of seats. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and husband ordered a cheese steak. He wasn't keen on the type of cheese used but said that the meat was good. My burger was amazing but I wasn't able to savor it for to a work emergency so I had to inhale it. It was juicy and very tasty. I dipped it on the extra cheese that dripped from the cheese steak. Delish! Have to come back again when I can savor.

Overpriced but tasty. To start off, the facilities were not amazing. The bathroom was broken, no trash cans, and paper straws. Line was not long given that I went during lunch time. The customer service was exceptional, very kind and friendly. My order took 12 minutes to get to me after ordering. Now for the food. The fries were crispy, hot, fresh, not greasy, and had the right amount of salt. Throughout the meal, the fries got limp, so I would recommend getting them fresh and hot. The burger was juicy and the ingredients seemed fresh. Patty was a bit overcooked but not that big of a deal. The bun was too big in ratio to the inside of the burger. The sauce was overwhelming, making the flavors of the burger less. Overall the food was amazing, but it is overpriced and the facilities were not up to standard.
The toppings make the bread soggy and cold so it's 3 stars for me but customer service wa nice and the burger was okay despite it all.
I’ve passed by this spot a bunch of times and wanted to give it a try. Who doesn’t like a good burger right? Anyways, the place is clean and the food came out pretty fast, but ….the burger was just okay and the fries really reminds me of supermarket frozen fries. Yeah, not even fresh cut and seasoned. Just plain shoestring fries. Pretty disappointing for sure. On another note the staff is outstanding. I understand that they can only work with what they’ve got so I don’t blame them for the food. I did witness their staff treat a homeless guy with respect and dignity when he walked in with $5 trying to buy some food. A customer saw what was happening and offered to pay any difference so the guy can have something to eat. The guy wasn’t aggressive, or trying to cause any problems and waited outside for his food after placing his order. One worker brought the food out to him and a few minutes later a different worker went outside and gave him a drink. The employees treated the man with understanding and compassion.
Food was good not gonna fib on that - however service was not great. The guy that took our order was cool, and patient as we had a big order he minded his table manners when he helped bring over some soda. There were few things that just did not sit well with me though. There was a short Mexican guy (don’t start with I’m racist bs cause I am as Mexican as can be) that was so rude he yelled at a customer for taking part of their order before he said they could and then as we are eating at our table he comes over and starts reaching directly across everyone’s food multiple times to get the paper towel dispensers mind you all of them had napkins in them already so it wasn’t that it needed to be done right then. He was not at all courteous of what he was doing he had a nasty attitude and look on his face while interrupting our family meal. Lastly I was a bit surprised and disappointed that dine in service does not allow fountain drink refill. We spent about $200 on our food and drinks and could not have a refill we had to pay for a whole new cup- that to me is not service that will have me return.
I went during a taste testing, so I can really only speak of the service (very friendly), cleanliness (I didn't have to prewipe my table) and decor (fun, eclectic). The others that ordered the restaurant's existing food seemed happy but, I can't say anything other than that. Would.be interested in going back again to try their food, but I have a feeling I would need to eat again afterwards if I wanted to stay within a decent lunch budget (<$20)

Burger was sliding all over the place. When I was given the burger, most of the meat was off of the bun and the lettuce and tomato weren’t even on top of each other but to the side. Tried to put it all back together, but it was so wet my hands were a mess by the end. The taste was fine, but the squishiness of everything kind of grossed me out. Not my favorite experience.
