Opinions de Ham and Cheese Deli San Francisco
Cute cafe + retro arcade. Their breakfast meat empanada was generously filled with bacon, egg, and cheese and was served warm with salsa on the side. Paired with a solid cappuccino and enjoyed at the tables outside, this made for a great weekend breakfast bite. They also have books for children and retro arcade games including mortal kombat and paperboy
Absolutely loved this place! We celebrated my son's birthday last month here and wow! I LOVE the nostalgia and feeling of connection this place offers. The kids loved it and got a sense of what my generation was like. It was about gaming, food, fun and in person! The owner went ABOVE and BEYOND ...the food is ridiculously good! Thank you Grant soo much for the hospitality, great food and being so great with the kids!
New favorite spot for breakfast sandwiches!! The sourdough bread on either side is somewhere between a biscuit and croissant with a great crisp but fluffy inside. The burrito is a good service side and tasty! Plenty of protein options for vegetarians, like soyrizo. Gun games to play for kids (bring quarters).
I stopped by this little gem during my San Francisco trip and it was fantastic! I ordered the Havana Nice Day sandwich, and it absolutely delivered — huge portion and packed with flavor. Even though it's a small community deli, it was bustling with people, which says a lot. The atmosphere felt welcoming and genuine. Definitely a must-visit if you're in San Francisco and looking for a great, satisfying meal. I’ll be thinking about that sandwich for a long time!
Deeelicious! The way the cheese melts and envelops the other ingredients when I bite into it is amazing. The guys working there are cool and friendly. Lots of great options on the menu. Great vibes inside with vintage arcade games. Will definitely return to try other sandwiches!
Great sandwiches in the neighborhood and fun place for kids to hang out, look at some candy/toys, and play vintage arcade games like the good ol' days. We need more places like this around here. Support Ham & Cheese!
We stopped here after swinging by Baker Beach. The food is, in a word, incredible! It’s super cozy with fun items for purchase, and everyone there was really friendly and fast. I had the Shrooms Over My Hammy, and my husband had a breakfast burrito. Both were incredible, but mine had so much amazing flavor. I will definitely make this a staple on my next trip back. Thank you for a memorable meal!
Such a filling sandwich with so many interesting textures, colors, and taste. Love the neighborhood feel of this place and can’t wait to try so many more sandwiches!
I recently visited ham and cheese deli and it was the best experience from start to finish. The sandwich was amazing!!! Every bite was a delight and it was clear that high quality ingredients were used. The service here was 10/10! from the moment I walked in I felt comfortable and welcomed. The staff were friendly, attentive and went out of their way to ensure I had a great experience. Their positive energy truly elevated my visit. Overall, I recommend this shop to anyone looking for a delicious sandwich and top-notch service. I will definitely go back!
Very fun atmosphere! Especially for Bob's burgers funs. On your way to the beach day it is a great alternative! They have a great selection of tasty sandwiches and as a soup freak i found their tomato soup not bad at all! While waiting for your sandwich you can play arcades or chilling in the embedded plant shop
Best sandwich ever! The menu is so creative, clever and dang tasty! I’m so glad I found this place. Perfect lunch stop! The guys working here were speeding and hard working! I’m impressed by this place.
Delicious neighborhood deli sandwiches! Large variety of deli sandwiches including solid vegetarian and kids options, good selection of baked goodies, and surprisingly good coffee. Service was courteous and friendly, they gave the kiddo free cookies since it was our first time. The bread was also absolutely delicious, from Panorama bakery, toasted just enough that is it toasty yet still super soft. We tried the Jambon te Fromage, the California (with hot mustard) and the Joe Formaggio. All were thoroughly enjoyed by the whole family including doggie who wolfed whatever ham dropped from the toddler’s sandwich.
Neighborhood gem. Big bold flavors in the meatball sandwich, perfect construction and packaging. One meatball sandwich fed the two of us for a medium sized bfast. Can’t wait to try more. Love. Richmond.
Randomly went to this little jem of a place and was happily surprised. We went because of the pictures online and were totally glad we did. Bomb a$$ sandwiches made with high quality meats, cheeses, fresh bread and love. Empañadas were cute and delicious! The owner was friendly, food made to order, quick orders. A fun bonus was the FREE OLD SCHOOL ARCADE GAMES! Super awesome! Highly recommend, even if you need to make a special trip. We had the " Paul Ruben ", Shrooms over my hammy, a breakfast sandwich, empanadas, a HUGE pretzel with delicious dipping cheese and mustards. We ended up buying a jar of the mustard! Also 2 made to order kids sandwiches so they were happy. The only pic I remembered to take was of leftovers. Still delicious! Thank you Ham and Cheese, until next time
Full disclosure: I’m Grant’s Mustard Guy. But eating there today only confirmed his 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 rating on here is legit. I love his take on classic sandwiches. Willa and I ordered three just to get as many bites as poss. Each was better than the last. The Tomato Soup was a show stopper. No spoon required. Just drank it from the cup. Perfect balance of acid and sweet tomatoes 🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅. Truth is, Chef Grant himself is the real deal. A native San Franciscan, dude slings some of the best Sammies I’ve ever had - with heart, humour and a heavy dollop of talent. A true Deli Man. Love Kathy’s plant shop next door too. What a cool set up. Deli and Plants. Only in this magnificent city by the Bay. Can’t recommend this place highly enough.
Everything our group ordered from Ham & Cheese was absolutely fantastic!! Their gluten-free buns were spectacular, vegetarian options on point, and the meat + cheese fan among us was I over the moon. 🌙 ✨ The service was fabulous and I love that this small business is owned by longtime SF Richmond residents. What more can you ask for?! With cute bistro tables outside, a few vintage arcade games, and a lovely adjoining plant store (yes, I left with a beautiful new plant!) this is the perfect impromptu weekend brunch spot (yay for not having to plan ahead!) or lunch break escape. 🪴💕🥯 We will be back again very soon. Like tomorrow. 🙃

Read some great reviews about this place so I wanted to try it out. In my opinion, the prices are a bit on the expensive end for sandwiches. Comes with a sandwich and slices of pickles. The portion size is plenty tho. The sandwich comes cut in half. I could only eat one half per sitting. Great taste.
After a stressful 24 hours tending to a pup with tummy issues and then a car break in and consequential wild goose chase through Oakland late last night because my friend is insane, I was really in the mood for a sandwich. This place was perfect! Worth the hype. Three hours of sleep, add two sandwiches (California street and tropic like it’s hot) and I am so happy in great spirits. All is well. Staff was cool and friendly too. Thank you!!!!
Top notch sandwich shop serving original curated slab sandwiches. Great meat and veggie selection. Although it common to pick up to go orders, I would suggest staying and enjoying the retro arcades lining the wall. The owners and staff are always friendly and welcoming.
This is hands-down, one of the best delis in San Francisco. Delicious ingredients fresh bread and wonderful atmosphere and service. Cannot recommend this place enough.

I don’t really go into this place very often at all. This was only my second time. The first time was phenomenal. I believe the owner was there. I went in today, which is a Sunday and ordered a almond milk cappuccino with a ham and chesse croissant. The croissant was good however the coffee was terrible. The almond milk tasted like it was vanilla flavored and the coffee itself was weak. This person perhaps does not know how to pull a shot. , I ended up throwing it out and getting coffee somewhere else.
They have a "Veggie Sam" option for their breakfast sourdough sandwich where they replace the sausage with avocado but it is still not vegetarian! The eggs come made with ham and cannot be made plain. This is not listed on the menu and I was only informed of this by the server. I have gotten this before thinking it was vegetarian. I saw another customer confused by this too. Please add this information to your menu so other customers do not accidentally eat meat. Editing in response: The server was not Jose, it was a woman who did not tell me that there is a vegetarian option to the eggs. In fact, I overheard another customer who tried to order the Veggie Sam. She told him the eggs come with ham and he asked her can you make the eggs without ham? And she said no, they come premade. To be clear, this is not a rare instance. I have ordered the Veggie Sam multiple times before and no one has ever told me there is ham or asked me if I want vegetarian eggs! Who knows if I accidentally ate meat here before.
