Opinions de Kam Po Kitchen San Francisco
A hidden gem in San Franisco Chinatown! The portion size is ridiculous and I kid you not, the flavor hit you on another level. We got the BBQ pork which is a must! The crispy pork belly was good (not as bomb as the bbq pork) but we recommend trying the duck and other meat items as well. The dish comes witha heafy portion of rice and to cut down the grease theres steamed cabbage. We also got their soup which was delicous too! Cash only!
If you want a five star dining experience relating to service and all that other fancy stuff, this is not the place to go. If you’re looking for five star food at reasonable SF prices, this is the spot for you. The one lady working the front was so busy, running food bussing tables, taking orders and serving tea nonstop. If you’re patient, you’ll get your rice plate of crispy skinned golden roast pork and fatty char-siu that would make any person happy. Don’t come for the ambience, come for the delicious food!
You can tell this spot is a favorite among locals. Highly recommend this spot! The food is absolutely delicious and it’s relatively cheap too especially for the amount you’re getting! There are many probably not used to going to an old school (cash only) Canto restaurant and aren’t prepared for the charming abrasiveness of the service. Bringing someone who can speak Cantonese/Toisanese will definitely add to the experience but is not necessary. I implore folks to keep an open mind and to definitely try their crispy roast pork and roast duck combo! Be mindful of bone chunks in the meat too. They provided us a plate to discard the bones.
I ordered the barbecue pork over rice here, as recommended by a particular tiktoker, and for $8.75 I was BLOWN AWAY by the portion, the quality, and just the character of the food. In a city renowned for expensive and often overpriced food, this dish wasn’t just cheap, but a bargain. The flavor was incredible, there had to be at least 9oz of meat, which was all juicy, flavorful, and fresh; and 3-4 cups of white rice with some cabbage that was also great. Don’t let the cash only sign or appearance deter you away from here, the food is worth every penny and then some. 10/10
In town just to drop off a Quickbarley Relipped Jumpwacker to Gus the Fireman so he'll be able to refault the Widlershaft on old Engine #4 ...And low and behold...I'm just a few yards away from the Kam PO Kitchen! Gus tells me they put out the best Peking Duck in the city, but I'm hoping that they still have the Peking style Chicken to take home with me. They did, and let me just say that the two best descriptors are...Amazing & Spectacular! 5 stars because 10 isn't an option. ☆☆☆☆☆
You will not find a better cheap meal in Chinatown, and it's probably one of the best cheap meals you can get in the city (and for me, the Queen of good cheap meals, that's saying something). The BBQ Pork was hot, tender, and seasoned/flavored well. Chicken chow mein was so juicy and chewy I'm getting hungry just thinking about it again, ha! They also give you very generous portions, so one dish might be enough for two people. But with the food so cheap, I recommend getting two dishes anyway and taking leftovers home for lunch the next day - that's what I did! Highly recommend if you're nearby and want a meal off the beaten path of Chinatown and Little Italy.
Some reviewer complained that “the prices are very different to those on Yelp” - you mean those crowd-sourced menu photos some Yelper shared, which clearly had a time stamp “3 years ago”? Yes the uncle at the roast meat station is curt but he’s like that to everybody, Chinese or not. The prices are cheap (why are you complaining that it’s double from what it was 3 years ago, when they still charge less than $10 per lb of excellent bbq pork?), there are always tons of people waiting in line, and he gets the job done fast. I don’t have any complaints. You want attentive service from staff that speak “good English”? Go to China Live down the block and pay triple the price as here for your “chow mein”. Oh wait you don’t want to because you’re already hurting from paying double of what you saw on a menu photo on Yelp 3 years ago which was probably $5 for a plate of noodz.
I saw this place recommended on YouTube for its barbecue duck. We really enjoyed the BBQ duck, since the duckskin was crispy and the meat was flavorful and tender. It was served over a generous portion of rice with a little bit of cabbage. We also got the barbecue beef lo mein which is all right. I enjoyed the Chinese broccoli with garlic sauce which was not overcooked or undercooked. The service was very attentive and friendly. All in all the good value. Their menu didn't have up-to-date prices, and was not in good shape. There wasn't much in the way of decorations. There is a bathroom which isn't so great.
Absolutely outstanding Hong Kong style comfort food! Freshly roasted duck, pork belly and hainan chicken! Low key seating area to enjoy your savory dishes. I highly recommend their beef bittermelon with black bean sauce over rice. Fantastic taste and gravy to die for! Their roast duck won tun mein is incredible! They put duck gravy in the broth, which add a special umami. Please note this is a cash only business.
Amazing family run authentic Chinese spot. High quality duck. Recommend over bed of lo mein. Plentiful wonton soup portion. Very attentive service. Even brought over some extra soup broth when we ran out to keep our noodles and wonton party going. Cash only. Also highly recommend the pea shoots.
hidden gem! loved the food,200%. no photos, it was that good no frills place but who cares, like old school hongkong with food that tastes like mum's kitchen had the hor fun, congee, char siew and chicken , washed down with cha. YUM dont understand the rip off comments, we were a family of 4 and our bill was under 35 bucks.
I’m usually quite critical about restaurants, but I used to ride my motorcycle all the way from Sacramento just for the duck here. It’s genuinely that good, worth every mile and every visit.
I ordered a BBQ pork and soy sauce chicken combo rice, and it was absolutely delicious! Their daily soup was also amazing. If you come to Chinatown for a meal, don’t miss this long-standing restaurant. Boss Eddy and Helen is very kind and genuine person too, same as their server, very friendly! I will come back soon
We ordered Gongbao Chicken and Stir-fried String Beans, the common Sichuan dishes at this Cantonese restaurant. They were absolutely delicious.
Perfect Chinese takeout place for the neighborhood. Reasonable prices, large quantities and greasy in the best way. Love the fish and tofu clay pot and the wet shrimp chow fun the most. Pea sprouts and Chinese broccoli are perfect veggie sides. Cash only!
I’ve never experienced such delicious flavors—I was genuinely shocked by how amazing everything tasted! The duck is definitely a must-try. I do wish the restaurant had a better seating area and atmosphere, but the incredible flavors alone make it worth the visit.
Of all of the things to do and all of the places to eat, Kam PO Kitchen was one of the highlights of my visit to SF. Authentic throw down cooking of meats, veggies, soup and more in a bare bones atmosphere. These street corner restaurants are where you find the best home style cooking. The nice lady named Ho was so kind and helpful with food suggestions and the cook who didn't have much to say just threw down and prepared some great food. This place is a must stop and eat in SF. Be sure to arrive on an empty stomach so you can indulge.
This was the first restaurant during our visit in San Francisco. The lady was super nice and prompted seated us. She knew that we were new and offered to give us some recommendations. We decided to go with her suggestions and ended up getting 2 combos with rice and a veggie dish. Everything was super delicious. The veggies were fresh and nicely stir fried. All of the meats were super good but especially the char siu (bbq pork) which was the best I ever had. It was super juicy and flavorful. The rice plates were huge portions, we had to take the rest to go. Overall, this is a great place to visit and the food was delicious. They only take cash!
A true hole in the wall. Yes, you might pay a little more than expected—but that’s the tourist premium, and honestly, it’s worth every cent. The portions are generous, the flavors are bold, and the food speaks for itself. Everything we tried was delicious, but the standout was definitely the soup with Char Siu Pork which was rich, flavorful, and absolutely phenomenal. Highly recommend!
Great meal. As soon as I saw it was cash only, I knew it was going to be a good night. I went with another person, and ordered the roast duck, BBQ chicken with rice and a side of broccoli and could not finish it. Serving size was very generous, and was very delicious- could not fault. I will be returning. Priced very well and cheap for the amount of food you get. Owner/chef knew what he was doing.
Delicious Chinese takeout foods with affordable prices and generous portions. Also have a dining area.
The food served here is exceptionally delicious and offers great value for money, with generous portions that are often more than one can finish. Please note that the establishment only accepts cash payments.
Good Chinese restaurant at a very good price.m, even in San Francisco. We had Sweet&Sour Pork with rice and Roasted Duck Lo Mein (with noodles and soup). Huge servings! $19.50 for everything (without tip). It’s cash only. Food 4.5/5 Service 5/5 Atmosphere 1/5
The roasted pork and cold boiled chicken at this restaurant are incredibly delicious, and the roasted duck is decent. The vegetable soup is good too! Service is so so. Overall, it's a satisfactory experience. Reasonable price but CASH ONLY!!!

Kam Po Kitchen is a Cantonese restaurant that is outside the tourist circuit in Chinatown but it looks any other restaurant in the heart of Chinatown with various BBQ meats hanging from the window. The menu is your typical Cantonese style which means it a gazillion choices ranging from wonton noodle soup, porridge, rice plates and pan fried noodles to curries and snacks. The BBQ meats in the window looked good so I decided to get a 2 Item with rice ($8.30) combo to-go and went for the soy chicken and duck. Payment was cash only. I got a huge container that was filled to the brim with good quality cuts of both chicken and duck. I mean their serving size is almost double of what you will get at Yee's which is in the heart of Chinatown. The duck here actually had some meat on the bone and did not consist of all fat that you get elsewhere. I've come back here a couple of times and the quality has been consistent across visits. I haven't tried anything from their huge menu but if it is anything like their BBQ meats, I think it would be really good. Kam Po Kitchen gets a thumbs-up from me.
Was looking for a recommendation for noodle in Chinatown from a random youtube vlog and got this place. Went there to give it a try. The staff at the front dont speak english so this aunty came and helped took my order, I couldnt read the menu as theyre in chinese 😓 so i just said i would like noodle with roasted pork. The service wasnt the best (typical authentic chinese restaurant) but the noodle and the pork were reallyyy tasty!! I spent about 18$ for that big bowl of noodle. Definitely will come back :)))
Located on the corner of Broadway & Powell St, nearby the Broadway tunnel by SF Chinatown. Street parking is difficult in the area. The restaurant is always busy. Thete us also a deli with many take out items and orders. Restaurant is not that clean. Service is OK, nothing special besides take & serve your order.
This is a no frills cash only Chinese dive and it's damn delicious! Don't expect much table service here and don't be too adventurous either. Their menu is vast, but for a place like this - stick with the basics: porridge, noodle dishes, or rice plates. We began with a medium serving of fish filet porridge, my families baseline for porridge these days. I thought it was delicious - it had the right consistency and was very generous with fish. It was also infused with a good amount of ginger and cilantro which definitely kicked it up a notch! Next came the beef chow fun and Peking duck and roasted pork over rice. Hands down, the latter won. The roasted pork was awesome! We also chose to order this because we noted the hanging pig was still within the half range point (the best area). It was meaty, not too fat, and well spiced. The pork skin was nice and crisp. The duck was on the fatty side, but like good Peking duck, it dripped all its glorious juices into the rice beneath and that greasy goodness reminded me of days when I used to throw a tantrum as a child and get this or soy sauce rice as my alternative dinner. And yeah, maybe I did this a little more often than I should have....but it's so worth. The beef chow fun was pretty standard but I liked that they didn't use too many fillers (onions and bean sprouts). The noodles were also sauteed correctly and not glued together. Kudos to the chef! To get a few veggies in, we also opted for gai lan sauteed with beef tendons. The veggies were crisp but came soaking in beef tendon sauce/broth which probably eliminated all its health benefits but sure tasted good anyway. The tendons were also large and not chewy, cooked just right. All in all, it's definitely one of Chinatown's best casual places to grab a bite!
Cheap eats in Chinatown that is CASH ONLY! BBQ pork plate was a very generous size for a small. Delicious! BBQ duck was also generous but a tad salty. Probably should have added some white rice. The house chow mein was ready quickly and was piping hot! Shrimp, BBQ pork, chicken, vegetables, shitake mushrooms and noodles in a savory sauce! Our server even added chicken soup to go with everything!
Roast duck, chicken chow mein and Clay pot with chicken and mushrooms were all great. We were served a complimentary clear chicken broth soup with scallions. I am not sure they do this automatically, but we didn't object. Service was friendly even though there was a bit of a language barrier. Food was also very good. Especially the chow mein. The Clay pot takes 20 minutes to prepare, so be aware of that.
Found this restaurant when the one we want to visit was closed. It is a small restaurant with a large selection of menus. It also has bbq stuff. The food is really yummy and reasonably cheap. The server is very honest when we order. She said the portion is huge and our order is enough. She was right. You need to try the bbq stuff when you visit. Please don't mind about the inside. It is not much space between one table and with other.
We were craving for some Chinese BBQ platter and this place did a good number on it! I especially liked their char siu it has good flavor and it’s not too sweet and the meat is very tender. Also — SF has the oldest Chinatown in the US so it’s worth visiting the area and getting some freshly cooked sesame balls around the area after this meal!
Everything was huge! The salt and pepper pork chops were amazing! The chow mein(?) wasn't my favorite. Would definitely come again.
Cash only, authentic Chinese spot with barbecue meats. Came here per the recommendation of a friend and grabbed takeout for lunch. The roast duck lo mein took less than 10 minutes to come out and it came with a side of clear soup. The portion was generous, though most of the duck was comprised of bones/cartilage. There were a few indoor tables that people occupied, but most people seemed to opt for takeout. The dish was on the saltier side but was tasty. I had enough food for leftovers the following day. They have more exotic dishes as well for those inclined. It’s located right at the edge of Chinatown.
Chinatown BBQ Meats Shop/Restaurant where it serves up no frills authentic Chinese BBQ. We enjoyed a small order of BBQ Pork (8.50) and BBQ Duck (8.50), and an order of House Special Chow Mein (8.75). They also provided us a complimentary family sized bowl of Asian Chicken Bone Broth. A traditional and nice way to start our meal. The perfect amount of food for three people. The meats were flavourful and would’ve been perfect paired with some steamed white rice (we should’ve ordered!). Friendly and attentive service. Cash Only!!

Pretty disappointed by this. Mostly the price. $28 for duck lo mein and broccoli. Duck was ok, but lo mein tasted flat kind of like dish soap. Broccoli was good but portion was absurd.
Glad I found an HK-style rice spot. Two meats, some lettuce on a plate of rice with soup is a classic. It's quick and fills you up. Not going to give any extra points for hitting me in the nostalgia though. The meat was a bit cold and as BBQ pork goes, the cut had a nice mix of fat and lean meat, but was under-marinated. The roasted duck also only receives a passing grade. Sir Butcher needs to sharpen his knife and be more swift, there were several spots with bone shards! Portion was ok, for $15.5 I would've liked a bit more, but I can understand the bay area pricing. It's an ok spot. If you've eaten this sort of stuff growing up, it's a disappointing experience.

Disappointing Experience with Cold Duck and Greasy Vegetables. Our visit to Kam PO left much to be desired. Despite the friendly service from the lady attending to us, the food fell short of expectations. The duck arrived cold, with the meat lacking warmth and the skin far from crispy. The vegetables, were unfortunately drenched in excessive oil. As natives of Hong Kong, we hold high standards for duck and rice dishes. Regrettably, this establishment did not meet those standards. We cannot justify the 4.1 rating it holds.
Adrian and GE were correct I was also overcharged by the waitress. According to the menu my total should have been $26 but I was charged $36. It was only for three items. I know their prices are very low. But there's no need to cheat people. Why don't they just increase the prices in the menu to be honest. There is no need to deceit. The food is really good. It is a shame that they have to do that.
The food was fantastic... but they scam you so beware. They demand higher prices than in the menu, we were forced to pay nearly 40$ for three dishes when it was around 26-7 according to the menu

Place was quiet and there was no one. The lady server was very pushy to sell their vegetable dish which wasn't in the menu. Without thinking much I ordered a pork over rice, wanton noodles and vegetable which I was pushed to buy. Total I was charged $50USD. Lady told me pork over rice was $18.50 Wanton noodles was $13.50 Vegetable was $18.50 What a RIP OFF!!!!!
