Great food, extensive menu. Dine in or take out, they also have a great combo meal with 1, 2 or 3 entrees w/rice or lo mien Edit: Anyone else notice their prices keep going up?
I've only had the House fried rice (Shrimp, BBQ Pork, etc) here and absolutely love it! I grab some to go before every Giants game I go to. While waiting ive seen some excellent looking dishes go by! Can't wait to try out other menu items. Place is always full!
one of the few cheap & decent chinese/taiwanese quick eat spots in financial district/ upper east cut area. attracts both art students and, white collar and blue collar workers. They are open for Lunch and Dinner Service, where Dinner is a more a la Carte menu. They have the typical chinese-american premade deal combos, (1 item, 2 item, and 3 item combo). Steam Rice is inclusive, whereas Fried Rice, Chow Mein, or Veggie base is additional item cost. Rice Plates are freshly made, must recommend the Ma Po Tofu (Mapo Tofu), Bittermelon with choice of meat Stir-fry, Shrimp & Lobster Sauce over rice, Crispy Noodle dishes, Chinese pancakes, and XO Sauce dishes. For premade lunch items, Basil Eggplant & Tofu, Orange Chicken, Salt & Pepper Chicken, Salt & Pepper Pork are a must try.
Their salt and pepper tofu is outstanding. I recommend adding soy sauce to it.
Dan Dan noodle soup is the GOAT - thick fricken noods, ground pork, pickled veg, pea shoots in a perfect tart-umami-spicy Sichuan broth
This Asian restaurant is a hidden gem! The food is absolutely delicious, with generous portions that make every dish satisfying. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!
First time here, and I ate well for a good price. I had one item lunch and chose the green bean fish. It was seasoned just right, with fresh garlic and onions and a bit of chili. The fish was lightly coated in flour and flaky, not gummy like some places. I will be back!
This place has a special place in my heart and when I lived in SF, we would frequent this place quite often for lunch. While they offer the standard fare of combo plates, the real magic comes from the items listed on their extensive menu behind the counters. They make these items fresh and they are incredible. You can also ask for things that may not be listed there as well. Some things I love: Dan Dan Noodle Soup- not your traditional Dan Dan, but this extremely flavorful, rich broth is complemented by chewy noodles, minced pork and fresh spinach. Any of their wonton soups Porridge is also really tasty and they do it well! The ladies who work here are extremely sweet and really appreciate their hard work. Please support local restaurants and try this place, you won't be disappointed!
Great food, very large portions, authentic Chinese food. Staff was very accommodating to our group. Would come again.
Probably the best Asian food I've ever had
Go-to Cantonese food restaurant - always fresh tasty dishes and will customize for spice levels. Great place for comfort food dishes. Friendly service & have been going to Ming's for over 15 years!
Tasted great! Very flavourful and authentic. The price is a bit high but for the amount of food you get it's great. We had orange chicken, fried fish, black pepper beef rice plate, and fried rice. All very good. There are a lot options there. Will definitely go back again.
Travelling in the USA and when in San Francisco, we felt like having some Chinese food. So went to New Ming's which happened to be within walking distance from our hotel. As it was approaching their closing time of 7pm, we could only order take-out. We were very pleasantly surprised and pleased with the 2 dishes we ordered. They were substantial and very satisfying. Pity we won't have the opportunity to try their food again, now that we are back home in Australia.
Awesome little hidden gem. I found them online searching for places that have Singapore style noodles, which is a long time favorite I've searched out for years. It did not disappoint, and the chow fun was good as well. Places was tidy with clean decor, people were pleasant.
New Ming’s is my family’s favorite Chinese restaurant in SF of all time! I was in town for a week and I went there three times. 潮色豆腐 ie Tofu with Shrimp + Chicken is our favorite dish, but honestly every dish here is very good. This is an oasis in the middle of SOMA. The waitress is very kind and attentive. I’d highly recommend this to everyone.
Delicious food, friendly staff, reasonable prices. There’s a $4 charge for tea perhaps due to inflation. Tried the braised basil tofu with a side of steamed rice as well as their Singapore style rice noodles. Both dishes were very tasty and we will be coming back for more soon. Highly recommend coming here. They also have a lunch special from 10:30am-2pm.
First time trying this place out. Nice little place. They have an eccentric menu. We went with walnut shrimp and house special fried rice. Tasted like traditional seasonings. Very delicious. Service was good and staff was friendly. Will be back
Update Jan 2025: Good to see it much busier than when I first tried it out. Food are still good and enjoy a good quick lunch before back to conference. Don't limit yourself to their lunch box offers. They also offer a nice selection of normal make to order items and they are better than the lunch box. We tried the house fried rice and SciChaun fried tofu with Eggplant. Both were real good, great Wok fragrant with infused favors from ingredients. The Eggplant was just right texture and not overcooked. _________ Great fast and easy lunch just a short walk away from Moscone center. Nice little mom and pop restaurant hidden in a building coroner not far from the convention center. An easy quick reach for tasty filling lunch for conferences goer, visitor to Yerba Buena area. Next to the Museum of the African Diaspora. Hot and spicy beef shank noodles is pretty good, also the bitter melons fry beef in black bean source ( right predation makes the bitter melons not bitter but retain it's fragrance).
Cute little chinese fare in san francisco! Definitely a more hole in the wall than a big restaurant. There were only 2 patrons around 1 pm on a saturday, which was initially concerning, but i’m so glad I gave it a chance. All the food is very fairly priced and portion sizes are very reasonable. Boring order, but I got the sweet and sour chicken rice plate. It had a large portion of rice, a ton of sauce, a bunch of cooked pineapple and bell peppers. The chicken was absolutely amazing! It was the perfect amount of crispy and piping hot, which was what I needed after walking the city all morning. I didn’t get to try anything else, but everyone in my party liked their food and i’d definitely recommend giving this unassuming chinese fare place a chance!
Chinese Food Mountain for $15, definitely not a glorified panda express! The staff was sweet and hospitable, accommodating our needs! Will come back again to stuff myself 🥢
This is a fast food + restaurant type. For lunch, think of it like Panda Express, except it is family run. Nothing fancy just a simple Chinese food that will feed your belly! 🤩🥳🤩
Loved the soups and service. Best I've had in San Francisco!
11/2023: Ordered for pickup via Uber. Interior is very bare and atmosphere doesn’t feel like much but the food was great - hot, seemingly fresh, with enough spice to taste but not too much to burn.

Great food, big portions, good value. Authentic and fresh
I got the spice Mongolian beef with a side of rice and it was one of the best I’ve had in San Francisco. The onions are perfectly charred and the vegetables are not soggy. They are really crisp and the spice is just hot enough for you’re sweating a little bit, but you don’t hate yourself.
Great service, great food and great location. This is right in the middle of downtown San Francisco and is very convenient. When I went here, they were not busy as it was slightly past lunch rush. There are lots of really good options to choose from so it was a little bit difficult to decide what to order which is a good thing. I ended up getting the house fried rice with multiple different kinds of meat. The rice was cooked perfectly and very flavorful, the beef, the chicken and the shrimp are also very flavorful and overall it was a great meal at a great price.

Did not takelong to order food for take out food price reasonable since there are very few Asian restaurants in the area that isnot hard on the wallet
Very quiet restaurant when we arrived but the food was loud! The orange chicken was so crispy and packed with that orange flavor we all want, one of my favorites I’ve ever had. Dumpling were good as well as the onion pancakes. Served HOT and fresh.
Inexpensive Chinese restaurant. Cheapest beers in the city (so far) $4.75 per bottle. Food is okay. Service is good. Decorations are too simple. For somehow the Chinese restaurants in this area have very slow business. At 6:45pm, I was the only customer in the whole restaurant. I checked another nearby restaurant called Henry’s Hunan. It had only one table occupied.

Chinese restaurant in town, just a walk from 3rd Street. I ordered Thai style fried egg with BBQ pork underneath. It greats with reasonable price.
Curious menu that contains a mix of American-Chinese and more authentic dishes. Live lobster and catfish are the dining room so I am guessing thoses dishes are fresh. The Vegetable Foo Young was tasty although on the bland side. The brown sauce was both thin and a bit gelatinous at the same and sadly lacked flavor.
This is one of our go-to places when we need take out and need it fast. It's not the world's best Chinese food, but it's fast and cheap. You can walk in, place your order, and comfortably lounge around at one of the tables until the order is ready, which usually doesn't take more than 10 minutes. I haven't been here for lunch, but I think that's where they get crowded because it's never very busy in the evening. Minus one star for the minimum credit card charge nonsense.
This place has decent offerings for lunch. Biggest draws are the low prices. Biggest turnoff is that they don't accept card for anything lower than 10 bucks, and if you say that you want it in a to-go box they say you can't eat in the restaurant. You have to leave. I kid you not. Weird policy.
It’s just Ok, I had some different chicken choices + rice. Nothing amazing. The spring rolls were not worth finishing. Employees seemed nice. If you don’t order from the buffet lineup, expect to wait some time.
I always enjoy their food, especially the Rock Cod in Black Bean Sauce. Lowered the rating because they started to charge a 15% "service fee" (even on a single order) and still have the tip jar out. Their need put up a sign stating that you are already paying a 15% tip. Also, order off of the printed traditional menu like the regulars do. The buffet line is for tourists.
The place was almost empty, that should have been a sign for me to leave without buying anything, but I went against my instincts. I asked if the house fried rice and kung pao chicken were good, they said very good... They lied. The food was very disappointing. Never again.
I tried the hot sauce fish and the Szechuan lamb as a take-out order. The experience was mediocre and nothing really stood out for me. Although they claim to specialize in Szechuan-spicy and Hong Kong-style food, the dishes were not spicy or authentic enough to my taste. The hot sauce fish and Szechuan lamb lacked the expected depth of flavor and spiciness. We had planned to dine in and get a quick bite, but they wouldn't seat us around 6:30 pm even though their closing time is 7:00 pm. So, be mindful if you plan to dine in. I'm open to giving them another try and will probably go for their Hong Kong-style food like fried rice/noodles and wonton soup next time.

Stopped in because it was on the way back to the office and I didn't want to make the side trip to Chinatown. I ordered BBQ pork wonton ho fun. The five wontons didn't have the bouncy chew and it was mostly pork - no shrimp. The broth was lifeless and the noodles was on the light side - not much. The pork was plentiful - surprisingly - but a bit dry. For the veggie in the soup, spinach. It took longer to come out of the kitchen than I expected. I have a light appetite these days and the dish was filling but not satisfying. When I had a bigger appetite, this would not have been enough. With tax, it was over $18 - OUCH. The vibe of the place is plain. The food in the warmers looked tasty and their menu had a decent amount of options from the kitchen. If you're in a hurry, just select items from the warmers. The staff was friendly. There was a self serve water spigot. If this place was out in the mid-west, I might go back to try other items, but with so much competition in the area for the same cuisine, I probably won't go back based on my order.
I had a seafood soup there, and it’s far-far from great. It’s low quality udon, badly tasting fish, nearly raw broccoli and overcooked squid (shrimps were ok tho), and the broth is nothing to write home about. For $16 there really are better options. The service was good tho, fast and nice.

Horrible place. Service is on the waste side. The people working behind the counter are not hospitable to their customers. They lure you in because it's cheap and honestly the food is not good. What made me write this review was due to a bad experience that could've easily been avoided. I tried to be polite with the cashier in claiming that I did not order a spicy beef plate and that if I could get my normal beef plate which is not spicy. They refuted it and try to make me feel as if I was making up the whole thing when I simply just wanted to eat and enjoy my lunch and head back to work. The cashier lady is not someone who should be in food service as she is very confrontational and refuses to listen to the customer. Don't go to this place there are so many better places for the same price up Kearney that are worth the walk then this dump.
Poor service. Went to restaurant and no seating available so requested takeout. While walking towards door, table became available. I asked the lady cleaning table if okay to stay an eat. She said Takeout Means Takeout. Yes I know what takeout means but just spent $50 between 3 people and would be nice to sit down and eat. No. Okay. No problem. And I won’t be back.
There is no blood in Maoxuewang. They should have said so in advance. One star is ALL! The existence of this store is the biggest disgrace to the industry. The owner's attitude was super bad. She said there was no blood. Why didn't you tell me in advance? In Chinese dishes maoxuewang means must have blood in it. I didn't return the dish. I just want to let everyone know that a restaurant without credibility will not last long. I sincerely hope that everyone can see my comments. I have never given a bad review to any store, but this one is the worst of the worst.
