Opinions de Pad Thai San Francisco
This place is legendary and historic, I've been coming here since I was a teen (now anytime I visit I try to go) I have nothing but good memories here so you know the food is awesome. As a youth I almost exclusively ordered pupusas and atole but this time I really wanted the tamale 🫔 and yucca that comes in the Plato Tipico and it WAS so good. I also got the bebida de "ensalada de frutas" which I have never had but was delighted by, it's what its name implies, it's a refreshing punch with lots of little bits of fruit in it. Super satisfying and worth the visit
Great service. Very nice waiters. Food was very good. Lots of family gatherings.
This place has excellent food and delicious pupusas! The menu had various things, and the service was also good. The restaurant is decorative and showcases culture throughout.
As my friend from Tijuana remarked after we cleared our plates, this is probably as authentic as it gets! This food is absolutely amazing, the amount of times I said "wow" between bites would make you think I'm a broken record 😂 The Carne Asada con Platanos was something sent from heaven. The buttery goodness of the Carne Asada paired with the Frijoles, along with the sweetness from the Platanos made every bite more and more enjoyable. Don't even get me started on the Pupusas, I have no words as I slammed my hands to the table out of pure joy and relief. I HIGHLY recommend you go for these if you're looking for a cheap but feeling bite! They have a unique horchata that gives it a crispier and more richer, earthier taste to it. It reminds me of a traditional chai tea turned into a horchata with grainy/rice notes. Very toasty, very delicious!
Delicious pupusas! Delicious soups! Never been disappointed with a dish I ordered. Great portions and Great service!
Very tasty Salvadorian comfort food. The pupusas were excellent and filling. Very homey and just what we needed after a day of work, travel & night out in SF. Friendly, homey service. Highly recommend!
I placed a large order (5 dozen pupusas) They had my order hot and ready at the time promised and even helped me bring the trays to my car. Very polite staff. The pupusas, Curtis and salsa were delicious. The salsa jas the perfect spicy level. I will definitely be ordering take out again!
We missed this place during the pandemic. Glad it’s back open, even if it’s reduced hours. Still has friendly service and delicious pupusas and soups.
Authentic great tasting Salvadorean and Mexican cuisine. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals and would definitely visit again!
Best pupusas. Best sangria. Great chips and salsa also. I love this place.
Just had lunch here with the fam. The pork and cheese pupusas were bomb and so reasonably priced. Wish I ordered extra to bring home. Hubby had the carne asada burrito and daughter had the chile verde burrito. Both loved their choices. Afterwards, we walked over to Mitchell’s for dessert. Can’t wait to come back to try other items on their menu.
One of my favorites! Great Chile Verde! Pork SO flavorful and satisfying. Miss their Chile Colorado, wish they'd bring it back! Great home-style service, easy take out or eat in. Parking can be tough at peak times, but oh well, definitely worth the occasional inconvenience. Everything is delicious, perfect rice and beans, great chips! Highly, highly recommend!
This place really is awesome. If you haven’t been, you must go!
What a fantastic restaurant and the people that work there are just as good. The curry Puffs are utterly amazing. The food was both delicious and affordable with good portion size. Must try if you're looking for Thai food in San Francisco
Perfect for the keto traveller. Tried the F04, their spicy version of the crispy pork belly. It was wonderful. The pork belly was not overcooked and really tasty as it was sauted with bell peppers, Thai basil and chilly peppers, not too spicy. The ambience is cozy with large painted Thai murals on the wall. The service was friendly and attentive, beyond what is typically expected, was helped by May. Their check in and Queuing system is simple albeit manual, just write your name and number of folks in your party. Came on a wed night and had to wait a very reasonable 20 mins to be seated. A curious observation was parties all stayed for at least 1 hour and the restaurant did not pressure anyone to leave. The place was spotless and clean. If are in San Francisco and looking for a wonderful keto friendly restaurant, do stop by.
Excellent Thai food in an unassuming restaurant. They have elephant icons such as Dumbo and African elephants. The Thai iced teas was the best with a teddy bear ice mold making it very cute. Satay was good as was the Papaya salad (warning it is not very spicy on medium). Spring rolls had tofu inside and had a minty taste. The Red curry with chicken was nicely spiced and was very good with the rice. Pad See Eu noodle also was well liked with plenty of chicken. The BBQ pork fried rice was good but did not have much pork in it. Nothing was left after we finished. Service was fast. Bathrooms were clean
We recently dined at New Thai Elephant, and our experience was excellent. Our group of three ordered the Egg Rolls, Veggie Fresh Rolls, Thai Iced Tea, Yellow Curry, and Pineapple Fried Rice. The food was fantastic overall! The Egg Rolls and Veggie Fresh Rolls were fresh and satisfying, and the Thai Iced Tea was perfectly sweetened. The Yellow Curry was a standout—rich, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. While we enjoyed the Pineapple Fried Rice, we found it a bit on the bland and dry side compared to the other dishes. The service was equally impressive. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome throughout the meal. We’ll definitely be back to try more of their offerings! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quality Thai dining experience.
Not always the nicest people (as far as service) but this was a favorite place for my brother to seek late night food and refuge. Hes taken me here several times and now I make my way there everytime I drive into the city. Hungry or not. I take my kids so they can enjoy the culture as well. We are part Salvadoran and this is one food I dont make at home for them. Pupusas. They are better here than the places in my city
Really good Papusas! The last page of the menu is all Spanish and seems to be where the best value items are. Chips and Salsa for $1.25 and $5 papusas, we had a variety of vegetarian ones and they were fantastic!
Had the Veggie Burrito for lunch and was surprised how delicious it was. The staff was super nice. They gave me their business card, so I could call in my order next time and not have to be rushed eating to get back to work.
We arrived around 2:45 PM and managed to place our order just before the kitchen closed for lunch. We started with several appetizers: Roti, Papaya Salad, Curry Puff, Fresh Rolls, and Chicken Satay. The Curry Puff was the standout, while the Papaya Salad - served with cabbage instead of the more typical lettuce - was let down. The rest of the starters were okay. For entrees, we had Pad Rad Na, Red Curry, and Basil Fried Rice - all of which were quite good. The highlight, however, was the Pad Kee Mao. We chose mild spice levels, which turned out to be too tame; a higher spice level would’ve been better. Unfortunately, the experience was somewhat dampened when we were rushed to leave around 3:30 PM. If the kitchen closes early, it would be better not to accept orders past 2:30 PM. Rushing diners out feels inconsiderate and takes away from the experience. A clearer policy or better communication would go a long way. That aside, we still enjoyed a good lunch overall.
Very friendly staff. Quick service. Fresh, hot food. We arrived when they opened at 4:30. On a previous visit we had the pad kae mao noodles, a classic. We ordered the green curry and pineapple fried rice with soft tofu and no mushrooms. The pineapple fried rice tasted good. If you are sensitive to the smell of eggs, we suggest you ask for no eggs. The pineapple trunks were a little too large for our preference and they forgot the remove the mushrooms. By the time our food arrived, the restaurant was packed. They get really busy! The green curry was good, we took leftovers home and it tasted too sweet.
The food was nice, though the serving can be better, it was one big pile... I asked for mild spicy and they forgotten so we took the spices from the counter... The pineapple rice was amazing taste wise but why there were two shrimps if the description doesn't mention them? Then it looks like they "fell there" by coincidence. Otherwise the dinner was big enough.
Parking was dificult, the restaurant was old and dirty, the food was mediocre, and the waitress was rude. It is not cheap, but if you're looking to experience some typical Salvadoreño food while in San Francisco, I recommended it.
Yummy food. Except service was a bit slow. Rice and beans were delicious.
The food is average. Red curry is too sweet. The roast pork was above average and the pork with basil was the best amongst the dishes ordered. Their take away portions were of decent size and hence pretty fair pricing for local standards. Restaurant size is big but service a little slow in terms of food prep. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Great Asian cuisine with a solid menu selection. The food was delicious, reasonably priced, and the portion sizes were just right. The décor really adds to the experience, with beautiful Thai artwork throughout the venue and an incredible elephant feature wall that really stands out. However, the night I visited felt quite chaotic. The restaurant seemed short-staffed, and the waitress was clearly under the pump doing her best. Unfortunately, this meant long waits for meals, and even food delivery drivers were visibly frustrated by delays. Overall, tasty food and a lovely setting, but the service experience would definitely improve with a few extra staff on shift.
Service was nice and friendly. It’s a bit too busy and you have to sit so close to the other tables that you are basically sharing a table with your neighbors. The food was disappointing, based on the high number of 5star ratings here. The padseeyew noodles were super oily, lacked flavor, chicken and was not tender. Sauce had somewhat unpleasant taste. Overall would not recommend.
The smell in there was not one to wake up an appetite. Not sure what it was but it smelled sour. My order was wrong and when I got my replacement Pupusas they were half cooked and definitely not tasty. They tasted like raw tortilla masa. The soup was mediocre. I won't be back!!
My daughter bought me two pupusas. Two tiny little pupusas I asked for revuelta where’s the Chicarron really if they were made as cheese where’s the cheese. I would definitely not recommend also knowing the fact that the restaurant was empty at the time.
We visited New Thai Elephant (SF) for dinner and ordered roti for starters, Pad Kee Mao with chicken, green curry with veggies & tofu (no meat/fish sauce) that came with Jasmine rice and ordered Thai Tea. The roti was just okay- we’ve had far better at Thai Spice at where it’s crispier and the sauce is more flavorful. The Pad Kee Mao was just okay—we’ve had much better elsewhere. The green curry, however, was a real letdown: the consistency was thin and watery, more like a soup than a curry and the jasmine rice was also a little burnt. The Thai tea was also disappointing, lacking the rich flavor and balance we usually enjoy. Just the presentation of the Thai tea looked a bit cute. We’ve tried many other Thai spots in SF (Thai Spice, Farmhouse Thai, etc.) and they are far superior in both flavor and texture. Even photos of our past meals at Thai Spice show the difference in consistency. Cleanliness was another concern. Plates and glasses had visible black marks and looked overused. We also ended up asking for to-go cups for our drinks instead of using their overused glasses. Ambience was only average. Overall, we wouldn’t recommend New Thai Elephant when there are so many better options nearby.
