Great food as always. Romi was a blast to chat with . Always full of energy. Killed my portions
This is a regular stop for My Husband and I when we visit San Francisco! We love the seaside vibe here! The food is so good!! I usually get the California Burger and My Husband gets the Clam Chowder or Shrimp items. The only negative I can think of would be parking. I believe it cost us somewhere between $20 and $30 to park which is unbelievable!
I absolutely loved this place. I am here for a work convention and when my friend and I passed by this place, we had to go in because we could smell their amazing food from the street. Our bartender was Jose "El Cuervo" Lui and he was super friendly and provided us with great service. Food and drinks were well priced and tasted amazing. My friend got the crab chowder bread bowl with two sweet racing days, and I got the spicy fish sandwich with two pomegranate margs. We came in just before closing time and he made sure we had everything we needed before prepping the store to close. I would most definitely visit again. Thanks Jose!!
One of the cheapest places me and the girlfriend found in San Francisco and the food was great. I got the fish tacos and she kept it classic with the chowder bowl. Both were really good and the staff was very funny and even friendlier. Honestly not much of a fan of seafood, but this place is good.
We ate at the section where the bar is at. We got seated right away. Great customer service. We ordered an order of the fish tacos, a crab melt sandwich, and the Dungeness crab. The crab was phenomenal!! So much flavor, it didn't need anything.. the crab melt was delicious as well. But I highly recommend the Dungeness crab!!
With so many restaurants to choose from on the Pier, this one is definitely worth trying. The server was thorough and the food came out quickly. We tried the clam chowder and the crab chowder. Both were good but the clam chowder was excellent. We're definitely going to patronize this location again during our week long vacation, so we can try other things on the menu.
This place, in the heart of a tourist destination, provides surprisingly hearty and tasty food on a reasonable price. From the looks of this place, Chowder Hut screams "rip off". Probably greasy food, tasteless chowder, all living off of the ignorance of tourists. I had passed by this place on multiple occasions and never really entered. Last weekend, my family was coming back from a walk in the pier, and we were all so tired and famished. We just walked into Chowder Hut because there were empty seats. Place was decently clean, and the glass walls did a good job of blocking the winds. Upon walking up to order food, price seemed to be decent - yes, expensive on a global scale but reasonable for a tourist epicenter. The food comes out from the side with your number called, and boy were we in for a surprise. Everything was freshly cooked, and accompanied with wonderful fries. Clam chowder was thick and appropriately creamy, the crab melt was delicious with "real" crab meat, chicken tenders were great for the kids, all with plentiful local beer. The amazing weather also added to the atmosphere. Overall, we were full and happy and definitely enjoyed our experience. Perhaps it wouldn't have been this nice had the weather been naughty or the winds frigid but it was just perfect for a late lunch on a beautiful spring day.
We needed a vegan+fish option around this area where the clam chowder in a sourdough bread is all you see around you. They offered us a great deal - made the changes to take out all the dairy and even tried to accommodate our other requirements. This place was a savior of mine this day... but this place has always been lit 🔥 I will come again once the cool air breath is warming up!
One of the best IF not the best in Fisherman’s warf! The clam choices tasted perfect, full of clams and creamy. The bread was also perfect, didn’t get soggy and tasted delicious. I have to say I ate the entire clam chowder AND the bread too. Just perfect. The owner was working and was perfectly welcoming.
My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Chowder Hut in San Francisco on June 16th, and we were absolutely blown away by the experience. My wife enjoyed the Crab Salad Sandwich, which was fresh and delicious, while I savored the California Burger, which was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. If you're planning to take the Golden Gate Bridge Cruise and need a quick bite beforehand, do yourself a favor and stop by Chowder Hut. The ambiance is cozy, the service is top-notch, and the food will leave you wanting more. It's the perfect spot to fuel up before a day of sightseeing. Highly recommend this gem for anyone visiting San Francisco!
I agree with this reviews that came before mine, the fish and chips were delicious! The atmosphere was great, the glass walls keep you out of the wind while letting the sun in, and the bar was the perfect amount of shade. Happy hour is top notch! 3$ pints and 5$ food specials, you will not be disappointed!
We ordered the fried shrimp and Parmesan cheese fries. The food was really god and the service was great and fast. It was a bit loud but that is expected when you have live music playing right across the street but we were still able to carry on a conversation with no problem.
Fun spot down in the Fishermans Wharft area. We stopped for lunch on a sunny Sunday. Very busy with lots of tourists, but there was plenty of seating available. It was seat yourself. Tables at the bar, in the shade, with umbrellas, full sun, and at fire pits. The food was hot and tasty. The drinks were reasonably priced and delicious! Would be a good spot to go and have a few cocktails and hang out outside! -overheard that they validate parking in the lot nearby for up to an hour -no bathroom at the restaurant, you need to use the one around the corner
For this place to be so small, the service was absolutely excellent. The food was great and with our large party, they seamlessly took everyone's orders while sitting at different tables (kids and adults) and kept your orders together. Also,, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Food was EXCELLENT. EVEN our little picky eater ate all of his food. Recommend trying the chowder, the fish and chips, and the crispy fried shrimp. The strawberry mojito and margaritas were 💯
So happy we came here for lunch. We ordered the clam chowder in the Boudin sourdough bread bowl and the garlic shrimp toasted sourdough bread. We LOVED our lunch. The clam chowder was better than one I had a few days ago from a fancy restaurant nearby. My friend could not stop talking about how delicious her shrimp was and even asked for the recipe. Axel, our server, asked the chef and gave us the very simple recipe. I highly recommend the clam chowder and garlic shrimp.
Great location at the heart of fisherman's wharf. There is 360° seating inside and out. You can sit down to order or go to the to go window. There is a bar with the football game on (Saturday college football) They have a handful of beers on tap. We shared the crab chowder in the sourdough bread bowl. So good and the top was cut off and left to the side to dip into the chowder.
This chowder spot sits among several similar restaurants, but it stands out. We were offered samples of the clam chowder, crab chowder, and chili—and ended up loving all three. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We chose to sit outside, which meant ordering and picking up at the window, but that was perfect for people-watching. The food was delicious and well worth the stop.
We stopped by here for lunch after walking around the wharf. Other places had lines while this one had many people sitting down eating but no big line. I ordered the crab & corn chowder in a bread bowl and drink while my son ordered a California Smash Burger with Avocado and a drink. Both were ready pretty quickly. The chowder was spicy with great crab and corn flavour! The bread from Boudin was great with the chowder and I devoured it! The only way to have chowder from reviewing restaurant menus throughout the city. Our son loved the Smash burger! The avocado and guacamole was creamy, the applewood smoked bacon and havarti were delicious and went nicely with the big 1/2 lb beef patty. It was a delicious mess! The food and service were great and lunch was ready quickly! We’d eat here again!
Good place to grab a quick bite while visiting Fisherman's Wharf! The crab chowder was amazing! Big serving, good temperature, and they used Boudin bread for the bowl!! 👌 The garlic Fries was another favorite. Very savory and you can taste the garlic. We also ordered fish tacos, burger, and crab sandwich, good but nothing memorable. Service was quick, good outdoor seating as well. If you want to sit and have a view of the water while eating, they also have a sit down restaurant at the back of the hut with a more extensive menu
I've worked at the Fisherman's wharf 15 years ago, and come to this place at least twice a week. And coming back here after these years is quite surprising to me because the flavor and quality of the food has never changed. The only thing that I would whine about is the soft paper bowl. Since I no longer can tell whether I'm still eating chowder or just scraping and eating the paper bowl already turned into gooie soup. Nevertheless, it is delicious. They had no problem with me requesting to have the bread separately, and i was not charged extra unlike other restaurants,
There are many clam chowder bread bowls around Fishermen's Wharf. We really enjoyed this restaurant because it was not overpriced like the other stalls. The richness and creaminess of the clam chowder was delicious. The sourdough bread bowl had the right amount of sourness, which didn't overpower the clam chowder. Check this place out!
One of the few places where you can order, sit and relax outside on a nice sunny day at Fishermans Wharf. 付近の屋台と違ってゆっくり座って食べられる点が良い。天気の良い日は気分最高です。 You can have famous clam chowder in a bread bowl, fried calamari, fish & chips etc. Ordering is just like fast food, very convenient. Calamari is very fresh, whereas the clam chowder was not much "clammy" which I'd expected.
For what it's worth it id a great spot to hang out have a beer watch sport and order fish and chips. The spot located at fisherman wharf. The service g size is decent and it taste fresh. The fish from fish and chips can use a bit of seasoning or salt, the calamity taste fresh and shrimp cocktail wonderfully presented in sourdoughs bread which balance the acid from the cocktail sauce. Overall it's a good experience.,
My family stopped by here the evening of 4th of July. We got lucky and the line was not long. However, the wait for the food was about 15-20 minutes. The fried calamari was on point. It was crispy. There was more heads then the rings, which my son loved. We also got the fried shrimp and clam chowder in a sourdough bowl. We ordered to go, but My husband said the clam chowder felt like it came from a can. It was super hot. I was only able to eat the top part of the sourdough bread. The bread bowl itself was too hard to eat. It could be that the weather was in the high 50s so food didn't stay hot enough. Overall, we enjoyed the food
If you’re visiting San Francisco and searching for a spot with great tasting clam chowder look no further. The “Chowder Hut” at Fisherman’s Wharf is the place. The chowder is served in a hollowed out sourdough bread basket that’s filled with delicious goodness. It has good flavor and is seasoned perfectly. The portions are generous and priced according. You will definitely find a host of others selling chowder on the wharf that might match and/or exceed the flavor profile of the Chowder Hut but this is a spot worth visiting.
We had the clam chowder and calamari. They were both great. It is table service and somewhere quick and reasonably priced to eat. It was nice to eat inside.... away from the seagulls! They have a happy hour in the week 3-6pm where some drinks are cheaper. Just check your bill as they hadn't put them on at the happy hour price but corrected it when asked.
My first time coming to this cute little hut in the heart of SF. This was my 1st time trying lobster chowder. Didn’t really taste any lobster in it, so I think i prefer clam chowder. It did have a good flavor though. It had corn in it instead of the usual potatoes as well. The garlic shrimp was very tasty, you have to peel the shells off though, so if you don’t mind that, I recommend it!
Visited here a couple of times during a trip to san francisco, we ate here and had drinks more than once, on one occassion it proved very difficult to get served, so dropping a star for that, as we spoke to staff to try and get served but no joy. Overall nice place though for a quick bite.
The clam chowder was delicious and it was great in the Boudin bread. However, the grilled fish tacos were not good at all…it was 17$ for two tacos which is already outrageous in itself and it tasted so plain. There was barely any seasoning and it was more lettuce and tortilla than anything. If you go skip the fish tacos. We went early and there was no one there and it was super quiet and so we enjoyed that.
Was looking for some good fresh sea food to try. Unfortunately, as I am only interested in the circular calamari pieces, this place does not accommodate that request. Decided to order the fried fish and garlic fries. Fish was fresh but basic in flavor. Comes with tarter sauce. The garlic fries were tasty. Good for a small snack.
The food is overpriced, service was great and fast. The crab sandwich was watery, not much crabmeat. The crab chowder was just okay.
Food/Taste/Flavor: 3/5 - clam chowder with bread bowl (provided by Boudin's) was wonderfully creamy but with mostly potatoes and very little clam. Ratio to bread was a bit off so we were left with some dry bead at the end and we saw so many people throw away almost completely intact bread bowls. The Fish and Chips came out nice and crispy but it became oily very quickly as it cooled. Fries were mediocre with mostly soggy pieces. The tartare and cocktail sauces were nice and appreciated to cut through some of the queasiness from the oil Ambience: 4/5 - there's two side to the hut where one is just order and sit at any table you choose and the other is full service. We just ordered and sat at a table. There are heaters above you but not too helpful against the super cold breeze. Simple and gets the job done Service: 4/5 - quick and efficient especially based on the huge line even during the week day. The person calling the numbers had a very strong accent so there was a tiny bit of difficulty understanding what he was saying Value for price: 3/5 - would do chowder again but skip the fish and chip. With so many places offering similar food, probably would try other options
Typical tourist-trap fare at tourist-trap pricing. Chowders were good. Sourdough bowls were mediocre in flavor and texture. The cocktail I ordered tasted like it came out of a bag or a box. Semi-sports bar atmosphere.
I am not sure whether this is an appropriate adjective, but the food here is tired. The fish and chips is unusually greasy and the fries are flat and thin. The location is great though! The only good thing about the chowder is that the bread bowl wasn’t soggy. The fish tacos were stuffed with veggies and the fish in them were virtually nonexistent.
The Chowder Hut is a typical tourist spot.. efficient service, quick to get you out and move you along.. had the chowder and it was nothing special.. the bread was quite hard and ended up leaving it behind as it was so dense that it did not absorb any of the chowder. there is seating along. They refused to validate parking as well.
Decent but typically overpriced tourist spot located at the center pier of Fisherman's Wharf with good outdoor seating and great location. However the food came lacking. The clam chowder is alright but can't redeem everything else. The calamari is way over breaded and too few to justify the price. The fish taco is dry and overstuffed with too much veggie to basically taste more like onion taco than fish taco.
I ordered crab sandwiches, but it’s not really good and it’s just plain sandwiches or home sandwiches I don’t why they’re charging 20$. I think they need to add some flavor to sandwich or give life to the sandwich, if they are charging for 20$ they need to worth for 20$. My tips is don’t order crab sandwiches and waste your money in ordering the sandwich. I recommend to look for other places to eat rather than wasting your money. Some of my friends were disappointed with the food. The service is good.
Nice place. Casual. Seating divided for fast food or slow meal. Bathrooms shared with public (line up). Crab chowder had a tasty kick to it. Crab salad looked underwhelming on iceberg lettuce. Peeled shrimp was good. Was lucky enough to get a fireplace table on a cold day. Reserve if you want this table - only 2 available, seats 4 to 6. Very busy, and seemed to be a shortage of servers for our section. Not bad service, food was fast, just the guy clearly had a lot going on. Was turned off by the great use of disposable containers - even for wine service. But it turns out they do use compostable plastics and paper items.
Ok place to eat but terrible customer service. Our waitress barely spoke any English and had trouble taking our order. When we asked something she just shrugged her shoulders if she did not know or understand. After we ordered, that was the last we saw of her until she brought our check to us. Someone else brought out our food. No one else checked to see if we were ok or not or needed anything. The food its self was decent. The clam chowder bowl was the best. Was rich ans creamy and had good flavor. The crab sandwich tasted good but had too much mayo and was an absolute mess to eat. All over your hands. Needed better bread for it. Just had sliced bread on it. Fish tacos ok but not what you payed for them. Not worth the experience and would not go back.
I’ve been going to this location for years when I visit sf but this last visit wasn’t great. The quality of the food declined. I wasn’t happy with the flavor of the fish in the fish and chips. It tasted stale and I could taste the oil they fried it in. It was only midday. The ketchup and tartar sauce are great though. And the place looks clean.
Clam chowder and fish was decent , fries were hard and old, they also charge you 4% of your entire bill that goes directly to the servers , I wouldn’t suggest tipping because they never even told me I would be giving them a percentage of the bill . Not quality at all for the prices either , calamari was the worst I ever had no exaggeration.
My business partner and I had a few hours to burn and decided to drop by the wharf before leaving. I’ve walled by here many times but never stopped before. Today we had limited time so decided to make it a quick lunch. It was 11am on a Tuesday so it wasn’t busy at all. The bartender is also the server and she was super helpful and friendly. We got our drinks (thankfully they have Coke products) quickly and ordered a few minutes later. The tables were pretty comfortable and surprisingly the chairs as well. It’s pretty simple inside and the menu is pretty simple. I ordered the clam chowder and spicy fish sandwich. It comes with fries but I didn’t want them. My partner ordered a chicken sandwich. The call chowder was pretty good. I liked that it was piping hot. Good flavor and I would order it again. The bread is real thick for the sandwich. I liked the bread and the fish was a thick cut. The breading was good but unfortunately no seasoning on the fish. A little salt and pepper even would go a long way. It wasn’t bad but just would have been nice to be seasoned. I’d come back here though. It’s a good deal for a quick bite to eat.
We came here because Frankies was closed and were quite disappointed with the fish and chips which was basically overpriced Captain D's! Go to Frankie's instead.
I ordered a crab sandwich having seen what it looked like on the advertising board outside. I ordered and was charged $22. When it came I was immediately disappointed with what I saw. Nothing like on the picture outside to draw you in. Practically no crab meat which I did ask why. I was told the used the designated scoop so everyone gets the same amount. I did comment that's not what is advertised out side. Having seen the sandwiches from the sellers across the road I will be going there next time. Every sandwich from across the road was packed full of crab, at least 10 X the amount. All that said it did taste good but will not be coming back. Absolute joke of a portion
Food was not good... No one ate more than half of what they ordered.... And it was WAY over priced. Shrimp not peeled or viened spicy and they did not feel right...fish sandwich too greasy and tasteless ... clam chowder was good... hot dog had too much stuff on it for a kids meal.... 4 people 80 bucks for not very good Avoid.
Absolutely terrible. I would never EVER come back. The chowder was so bland, bread not fresh, and the garlic shrimp you had to peel yourself and the legs on the shrimps were still on. Who wants to do that? And spend $22 for 6 shrimps that are not peeled. There’s a reason why this place is a 3.9 it is not worth it.
Ordered the clam chowder and chili. The chili should be renamed “baked bean soup” as it lacked an authentic chili taste and beef. The chowder was ok, but much better across the street. The bread bowl was not as fresh as I would have preferred. They also play games with hidden fees “employee benefit surcharge.”
We placed our dinner order based on the restaurant’s highly recommended crab bowl, along with a crab Louie and fish and chips. Prior to the meals being served, the waitress informed us that we would need to close out our bill early because the employee was leaving for the evening, which we found unusual. When the meals arrived, the crab chowder was not served in the bread bowl as ordered, but instead in a smaller cup, which is priced lower. We were given sliced bread and told that the restaurant had run out of bread bowls. Despite the price difference of approximately $3, no refund or adjustment was offered—only an apology. The Crab Chowder tasted more like corn chowder than anything else, with corn bits and yellowish look. Additionally, we were told that the crab in the chowder was minced; however, the pieces were so small that they were neither visible nor discernible in taste. Compounding our disappointment, we observed that customers seated next to us—who ordered after we did—were served their chowder in bread bowls. Given the total cost of our meal, approximately $220 for food and drinks, the experience did not meet our expectations in terms of service or value. The manager wouldn’t come talk to us and even care about the customer enough to do anything remotely to deliver a good customer experience.
I ordered the clam chowder and my wife ordered the fried calamari. Clam chowder tasted the same as canned, store bought chowder. It had a FEW tiny pieces of clam. Calamari was ok, they should offer it as an appetizer not only as a full meal. The Bloody Mary was average. The server was not friendly at all. Will definitely skip next time I'm in SF.
Mediocre over priced food. Incredibly rude and unprofessional waiter. We were in on a Monday afternoon, walked in and quickly were able to pick one of multiple open tables to sit at. I am assuming the bar tender dropped menus at our table and walked away. It was probably another 15 minutes before we saw our waiter. He was taking numerous orders at once and was very rude when speaking to us. We watched him storm through the restaurant huffing and puffing, slamming things around and cussing under his breath and at the staff who were trying their best to help him. We were able to decipher from his pissed off ranting that he was the only server on at the time. It is understandable to be overwhelmed, but we watched him refuse help more than once. Unfortunately, being overwhelmed doesn't justify making the dining experience completely horrible for the guests who are there. When we finally were served our food it was very underwhelming. We never saw our server after he dropped the food at our table, we weren't asked if we needed anything or wanted anything else. We had to flag down the busser to get our check and boxes. We got a fried calamari, clam chowder , garlic fries, regular fries and 5 drinks which came out to almost $75. I would highly recommend finding any other place to spend your money if you value customer care and good food.
Hello, I’m trying to reach the management regarding a recent visit. I was at your establishment on October 4th with a group of friends. As we’re now splitting the check, we noticed that the sum of the items doesn’t match the subtotal, resulting in approximately a $15 discrepancy. Could you please review this and let us know how to proceed? I can provide a copy of the receipt if needed. Thank you for your help
Terrible overall experience, came here on New Year’s Day and they said that the happy hour all day deal didn’t apply on holiday after we had ordered. Terrible service, server spilled water on the table and appeared to be high on something.
My dining experience here was extremely disappointing due to both food quality and a serious billing issue. The meal itself was very salty and below expectations. More concerning, however, was the attempt to overcharge our credit card (100% more). The final amount on the card reader was significantly higher than the total on the printed receipt. Only after we pointed out the discrepancy was the correct amount charged. This fraudulent practice, especially if directed at tourists or international visitors, is unacceptable.
We ordered fish and chips, inside the little basket there was frying oil running around, took it back to the cashier and asked him to make new, 1 min later he brought me another fish and chips which was worse than the first one and it was all saggy and cold. There are better places around. Wasted time and money.
Took forever. Cook had our four meals under heat lamps in window for 15 mins before he realized it was for us. I had the clam chowder bread bowl. About three hours later without eating anything else I experienced projectile vomit caused by food poisoning. This happened at 3pm yesterday, finally feeling normal again. If you want to ruin your vacation, get the clam chowder bread bowl.
Ordered crab chowder. Absolutely NO crab in the dish. Then they didn't accept credit cards (is that really a thing?) and was told to pay by Zelle. No other payment accepted! What? So had to call my wife back home to make a Zelle payment. Turns out the Zelle account isn't the business but the bartender's personal account! What the heck is going on at this place? Go elsewhere!
