Always a nice experience. I visit multiple times.. Had grilled fish and poori masala. Thoroughly enjoyed. The food tastes good. Filter coffee is too good.
Was visiting Sf and found the best Resturant for south Indian cuisine. The Vada was really good. And also the Dosas. The Service was also very good. It was a bit too cold but the hot food became the saver. Must Visit place if u are craving south Indian food.
Hidden Gem for a quick bite right on the waterfront and pier 39 areas accessible by a few minutes walk and also available street parking for those visiting there by driving straight to the location. Service is excellent by attending staff Raja and Venkatesh. Their seating is very spacious and does not feel crammed for an eatery in that vicinity. Additionally they also have a separate banquet type area which can accommodate party or celebratory occasions that demand music and lighting provided. We came for a quick bite and ordered items which were prepared fresh and tasted yummy. Their choice of drinks are also straightforward with a glass window refrigerator to give you an idea of the soft drinks and alcoholic beverages (beers). Their menus and decors bring back nostalgia from the South Indian state and cities vibrantly including the south eastern coastal Marina Beach experience. Restrooms are also accessible in this restaurant which are maintained well and kept clean. Definitely going back for items I need to try but couldn't during this first visit. This gives off a nice namma Chennai vibe. Aapdi Poode. 👌👍👏👏
Serves good and familiar Indian food in this part of the city. Coming from Southeast Asia, I would say this is similar to what we get back home. Service staff are always eager to help and doing their best even when they are short staffed. Love their goat briyani and the portion is huge. Always my go to when visiting San Francisco.
We had several dishes including a dosa and appetizers. Every dish was uniquely flavourful. Other reviews complained about portion size but they are very similar to other Indian restaurants around North America and Europe. The decor is bright and fun and the staff is friendly and helpful. There are millions of choices in San Francisco but if you want Indian, this is a great place to check out. If you are more familiar with North Indian food, you’ll like this just as much. It’s not wildly different but unique enough to be interesting and fun.
So glad we chose to eat here. My kids are not the spicy type and don’t look forward to curry but so enjoyed the butter chicken which had a very different taste compared to what we normally order back home. The layered Indian bread was also thorough enjoyed with The goat curry. I had the veg option which was yummy. Service was good.
I'll go one by one. 1) food : was awesome. Totally satisfying. Exactly how a dosa should be. Great flavour, chutney was good, sambhar was decent and had a good bunch of veggies. Liked the food, no complains. Had the mysore masala dosa. Was great. 2) service : there was nothing great here. We wanted to move to a slightly more roomy table, we came at an off peak timing, restaurant was almost empty. We were respectfully denied. Didn't really see a reason for the same, but so be it. That being said, the host was kind enough to have free refill on chutney. So appreciated that. 3) ambience : this is the reason why this place lost the star for me. It was freakishly chilly. Like the outside temp was 52F, they had the doors open and no heat. There was one other family in the restaurant, totally 4 people all wearing there winter jackets to eat food. Seating was not comfortable either. Table was quite small. The buzzkill was mostly the cold. If I consider the ambience, I would have given it 1 star for this reason. But I wanna give a kudos to the chef there. Really appreciate the flavour you bought out. Liked your dosa, although idly can be a bit better. Not to oily, Good potato stuffing, nice blend of herbs and spices. Thank you for the good food, please however do something ambience. I didn't want you rating to go anymore down, I feel your chef has potential.
A very good authentic flavor from cuisine of chennai, india. The ambience and food was excellent. Brought back memory of my hometown chennai. sambar, chutney was very authentic. I ordered mysore masala, mushroom masala , idli and bajji . everything was top quality . mushroom msala was fried with very different taste.. Highly recommend if you are around pier 39..
The place is on a busy street and it’s busy most time went in for a late lunch. Turns out most of the items were not available on the menu except for madras masala dosa. Which was fairly good . While the Sambar and coconut chutney was really tasty the potato curry wasn’t so good. But overall a decent place to eat. The place has its pros and cons Pros: Decent food Friendly staff Quick service Cons: HYGIENE TAKES A BACK SEAT. The overall place is shabby The staff doesn’t wash hands between cleaning the tables and serving the customers.
This Indian restaurant ( South Indian Style) near Fisherman’s Wharf with a solid menu of dosas, appetizers, curries, and biryanis that generally taste good. We tried the chilli chicken, curry, and chapati, and all of them turned out well with generous portions that felt worth the price. The dining area is quite large, so it’s comfortable for groups and doesn’t feel cramped. However, the service was disappointing on our visit. The server seemed inattentive and didn’t really check in on guests. With better service this place could easily move up, but for now it’s a mixed experience—good food and value, but lacking in hospitality.
Good, standard South Indian food. Enjoyed their coconut chutney and sambar with variety of dosas. However, service was terrible. Very slow service and the waitresses were inconsiderate of customers, swinging hot plates right in front of kids’ eyes and placing plates on top of belongings. Hard to communicate with staff. Overall, good food, but difficult place to be in as a customer. I would recommend take out is better.
I went here with a group of friends upon arriving in San Fran. We were all craving Indian and this place is in a great spot near the beach and close to Ghirardelli square, so we decided to try it. We went for a late lunch and there was only one other group eating there. The atmosphere was simple but bland, definitely lacking some personality and decor. The service was average, and it took the server a while to attend us even though there wasn’t hardly anyone there dining. What really surprised all of us was that the curries we ordered didn’t come with rice—we had to order it separately, which was a bit disappointing and not normal in my opinion. The food was good overall! I’ve had better Indian food before, but this place serves great plates with a lot of flavor, just as they should. Portions were alright. I’m not sure if I would come back here or recommend highly as an Indian restaurant in San Fran. Not a bad place by any means, and has potential; just wasn’t the best experience as a whole.
Stepping into this spot, we were excited to dive into some comforting South Indian thali, but much to our surprise, it wasn’t on the menu. That initial letdown aside, the experience turned out to be decent in its own way. The menu still offered plenty to choose from, and every dish we tried was packed with flavor—though be warned, the spice levels are quite mild, so spice lovers might want to ask for a bit more heat. We ordered the masala dosa, kothu parotta, biryani and poori—everything was tasty! They even took some custom orders and were very friendly and accommodating. The ambiance was simple yet quirky, with a small hall that featured a stage and, believe it or not, a disco ball! It’s an interesting setup with a lot of old pictures of the city of Madras a.k.a Chennai and many more old pictures of actors, singers, cricketers who in some way have a connection to the southern city that gives the space a good feel. However, a word of caution: the restroom definitely needs some attention. It was far from the standard you’d expect, and I hope they invest in some maintenance soon. Overall, while we missed out on the thali, the food we did enjoy was delicious, and the place has potential with just a little more care to detail. Oh, and they even have a small bar at the entrance!
Not good food, very regular taste with too much price, only name is like IPL on popular and successful team but performance like PSL teams 😝😝 will never visit again. We were 18 people and ordered loots of options in food but no one like their food. No Veg and No Non-Veg. Sorry but its was very costly in comparison to taste.
Food was not worth the price. Why tell us to sit at any table when we enter then ask us to move to a two people table after we sat down and got comfortable I understand if restaurant was busy but we were the only customers in the restaurant. Overall not a good experience as server never even asked during the meal if we needed anything else either. Can understand why the place was empty
Service :- Very bad, the Gujrati girl who was serving she has an very bad service and she doesn’t know how to treat people, imagine food is on table and there is no plate served by her, no water, and next to us there was an table reserved by that same girl and she prepared everything for them, the guy on the counter was very helpful and he give a nice service, that girl don’t know how to talk when we asked how is that food she said she is vegetarian, i mean if you are working in non vegetarian restaurant you should answer properly or if you don’t know then send someone else who know. Food :- Taste was good. Just because of that Girl who served us i will never suggest anyone to go there , i had attached photo to see the food is on table and no plates no water served.
The quality has gone down. The Pompano fish fry still had masala in it. Was not fried. The goat biryani tasted couple of days old. And more over no enough salt. Used to be good restaurant with tasty food even though when the quantity is less. But its just bad quality now. Hope it improves.
