Opinions de Crab House at Pier 39 San Francisco
We have dined most of the restaurants at Pier 39 but this one, today we gave it a try. We arrived lunch time on a sunny weekend and luckily got seated right away. It got packed and lines started outside immediately after that. The menu is one page, making ordering easy. We ordered Super Combo which is actually good for 3 people. We ordered 2 Calamari, we enjoyed it. Clam chowder’s so so, was not served warm. Fried rice’s is good for 3-4 people too. View of the Bay, server’s attentive and orders come out fast. Probably my second or third favorite restaurant in Pier 39.
⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🦀 Just had an unforgettable dining experience at Crab House-Pier39.The perfect spot for a brunch or dinner date with family. We ordered the half combo with crab, mussels, and shrimp, and wow, it was phenomenal.✨ Celebrating my wife's pre-birthday here made it even more special. My kids couldn't get enough of the crabs—they absolutely loved it! 🦀💖 And I have to say, the fettuccine crab pasta was creamy, delicious, and never fails to impress. Shoutout to our amazing server Juliana for her fantastic service! 🙌 This place is clean, organized, and has the friendliest employees. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great time and delicious seafood! 🥳 We will definitely be back soon!
Crab House at PIER 39 in San Francisco offers a delightful dining experience for seafood enthusiasts. The restaurant provides breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Fiahermen’s Wharf. The menu features a variety of fresh, sustainable seafood dishes, with the standout being their signature “Killer Crab®”—a whole Dungeness crab roasted in a secret garlic sauce and served sizzling on an iron skillet. We received good service from Julie. It was friendly and attentive, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. For those seeking a memorable seafood meal with stunning bay views, Crab House at PIER 39 is a must-visit destination in San Francisco.
This is a great place to have lunch while spending a day at fisherman's wharf. We ordered the crab cakes, Caesar salad, fish and chips, and a kids chicken tenders and fries. I might have thought that in a high traffic tourist location, the food might be mediocre. However, everything was very high quality in terms of ingredients and very well prepared. Great view of the bay and sea lions doing flips as well. Not surprisingly, most of the options on the menu are seafood. If you prefer land animals to eat, the options are fairly limited. The kids menu had a few solid options, but it was short. Overall a good meal though.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall Experience Crab House at Pier 39 delivers a fantastic dining experience right by the waterfront. The atmosphere and service are truly top-notch, making it a great place to relax, enjoy the views, and savour seafood in a lively San Francisco setting. 🦀 Food – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5) The seafood is fresh and well-prepared, especially the crab dishes, which are rich, flavourful, and satisfying. While the food is very good, there’s just a little room for refinement to make it exceptional — but overall, it’s still very enjoyable and worth the visit. 🔥 Atmosphere & Service – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5) This is where Crab House truly shines. The warm fire pits, cozy seating, and vibrant Pier 39 energy create an unforgettable ambiance, especially in the evening. The staff are friendly, attentive, and efficient, making you feel welcome from start to finish. 📍 Final Verdict A must-visit spot at Pier 39 for great seafood, outstanding service, and an unbeatable atmosphere. Perfect for visitors and locals alike who want a memorable San Francisco dining experience. Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)
Amazing experience! We were seated right away and the view was beautiful from the dining room. My mom and I ordered the crab bruschetta for our appetizer and it was delicious. The flavors were mouth watering. For our main, we had the Super Combo with crab, mussels, and shrimp. It came with a side of melted garlic butter that was life changing. The presentation was really fun and we enjoyed the sizzling hot plates the food was served on! We ended the meal with tiramisu and it was a sweet finale. We will absolutely be back for more!
We came here to celebrate two birthdays and had a great time! The food was delicious, especially the Killer Crab – definitely the star of the show. We also tried the crab chowder in a sourdough bowl. It was good, but I’ve had better clam chowder before, though the crab on top was a nice touch. Pro tip: take some of the sourdough bread and dip it into the garlic butter from the Killer Crab… it’s insanely good! They surprised us with two free chocolate cakes that were super rich and tasty, and the tiramisu was also really good. The views of the bay are beautiful and make the whole experience even better. Only downside was the service being a bit slow, but overall it was an awesome place to celebrate and enjoy some great seafood
I had a whole crab and my wife had the spaghetti with chicken. I ate some of hers so one crab was enough. If i didn't eat any thing else I probably would have had two crabs. It was delicious! We will probably go back before flying out next week. Less work than blue crabs but the shells seemed pretty brittle and were flying all over. Luckily the provide a very large bib.
Such a great spot upstairs at Pier 39. The crab was next-level amazing, but I have to give a huge shout-out to the staff. Our server (Gino, I believe?) took such good care of us all night and really made us feel special. It was my birthday and they brought out a complimentary cake with a candle — that little touch meant the world to me, being away from home. Can’t wait to come back
Gino was a great waiter. The food and drinks were exceptional and we had a great time here. Recommend you get a reservation as it looked like it can get busy. Also, the area is great to walk around.
We had a nice dinner here. We enjoyed every dish we ordered including the crab, mussels and truffle fries. The crab was huge and you can it's fresh. The garlic butter sauce added an extra punch of flavour which we liked a lot. We thought the mussels were a bit on the salty side. Nonetheless, we had a great experience and servers were nice and helpful. I would recommend this place for any crab lovers.
A famous seafood restaurant at Pier 39. Many guests in queue, but it’s well managed. Staff handle everything very well, service is great. Food comes out quickly, and overall everything went smoothly. I recommend it to everyone, even though I believe the price is tourist price.
I have eaten at this amazing place three times in my life. Each time, they do not disappoint. We ordered the skillet sourdough, which we in fact ordered twice cause it was so delicious. The crab chowder, which was tasty, creamy and delightful. My coworker ordered the New York which she complained had too much rosemary, but was cooked perfectly. I also ordered the crab, mussels and shrimp platter which everything was cooked perfectly and rather delicious. My only complaint was the crab could have had more flavorful. All in all, another delightful meal.
They have a good chowder here; it can mostly be crowded, though, but the ambience is nice. Big servings of their food. You also get a nice sunset view of the pier by the window table, which is a nice complement.
🦀 Spectacular bay views and the best seafood feast we’ve had in San Francisco! We had a late lunch at The Crab House at Pier 39, and it was truly a 10/10 experience when it came to the food and atmosphere. The views of the bay were absolutely spectacular, and the seafood was phenomenal. We enjoyed Dungeness crab, shrimp, mussels, crab chowder, and oysters on the half shell — all cooked to perfection. The only area that could use improvement was the service. While our waitress was attentive, I didn’t appreciate her reaching over our food while we were eating, which was distracting. That said, the overall experience was still amazing and I would absolutely recommend The Crab House for anyone visiting Pier 39 who wants fresh seafood and great views.
Crab House at Pier 39, to put it bluntly, was so damn good!! From start to finish, our meal was fantastic, and the experience exceeded expectations. We started with a half dozen fresh oysters and crispy calamari—both were incredibly fresh and full of flavor. The oysters were easily the best I’ve had across all the places we’ve tried over the last 2 weeks, and the calamari was cooked to perfection with a satisfying crunch. Even the kids’ meals impressed us! The chicken tenders and mac & cheese weren’t just afterthoughts; they were high-quality, delicious, and just as good as everything else on the table. The real star of the meal, though, was the Super Combo. This massive cast-iron skillet was loaded with some of the best seafood (crab, mussels, shrimp) you can get on the pier—every bite was finger-licking good and seasoned to perfection! The flavors were rich, the seafood was perfectly cooked, and it’s easily one of the best dishes I’ve had in San Francisco. To top it off, the service was excellent—attentive, friendly, and made us feel right at home. If you’re craving incredible seafood with an unbeatable waterfront view, Crab House is the place to go.
This was one of our stops in San Francisco and it was great. The food was delicious and the view was great. The seafood we ordered was fresh and it came out hot and sizzling! The staff were amazing too. A big shoutout to David L for making the visit one our best while on vacation.
YUM! We kicked things off with the crab nachos which was a huge portion! Then my husband and I shared 2lbs of Dungeness crab, beautifully presented and drenched in garlic-butter goodness. Every bite was perfect. We had a window seat with nice views of the Bay, and our server was attentive from start to finish. Highly recommended!
Must order crab. We can tell that the crab is fresh with lots of meat. Mussels and shrimps a bit salty but overall still out of our expectations
My wife & I decided to get some seafood and based on the reviews we selected this restaurant. The food was extraordinary and delicious 😋 but the best service was from the bartender Edwin. His professionalism, attention to detail and service was out of this world. A must visit place in Pier 39 💪🏽🙏
If you’re looking for a restaurant that delivers on all fronts—amazing service, incredible food, and a stunning atmosphere—look no further than Crab House at Pier 39. The service was impeccable from the moment we walked in. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel like valued guests. They were quick to accommodate our needs and offered excellent recommendations from the menu. The food was absolutely delicious! From the perfectly seasoned crab to the fresh seafood options, every bite was a treat. The flavors were well-balanced, and you could tell the ingredients were top-notch. Don’t miss out on their signature dishes—they’re worth every penny! As if that wasn’t enough, the atmosphere was breathtaking. With panoramic views of the bay and a warm, welcoming ambiance, it was the perfect setting for a memorable meal. Whether you’re visiting San Francisco or live in the area, this spot is a must-visit. Crab House at Pier 39 offers the full package and then some. Highly recommend it for anyone looking to enjoy a fantastic dining experience by the bay!
Been to this location 3 times over the last 13 years. The food and atmosphere are amazing. Plus check out the view during my last visit. That’s the Golden Gate Bridge in the background.
We were hanging around noticed place is pretty packed. I got some 2 order crabs feast and other fingers foods for sharing. Most of them actually pretty delicious. I do recommend this place.
Alex our server was so awesome (and so was the food) that we ate here two nights in a row! The first night we got the Iron Skillet combo, double with fried calamari and it was excellent! It was so good and Alex our server was so awesome that we came back the next night and I got the Crab Topped Cheeseburger (top 3 I’ve ever had), garlic fries were also great, and my wife got the Crab Chowder! Highly recommend this restaurant and ask for Alex!
No words can explain this place. Super delicious. It was a party of 9 our bill was over $600 tipped $100. I ordered half crab for $35 & garlic noodles 🍜. Well most of our guest order crab. Can't make reservations so our wait was 1 1/2 hours however your at pier 39 so there is alot to do. Smaller group 15 wait. Place is a Lil small bit I'll be returning.
This is by far the best experience I've ever had dining somewhere, added a cherry on top to my whole trip to San Francisco! There was no wait time. We immediately got sat down. Everything was clean, and it had a wonderful environment, perfect for a place to sit at the end of a long day. The food came out quickly. It was the best crab and calamari I've ever tasted. As for our waiter, he was amazing. Constantly checked up on us and filled us in with little information that was relevant to the experience, well-mannered, and knew how to talk to the customer. To end off this, we had a wonderful view of the water and Golden Gate Bridge!
Came here for lunch with a large group of friends! The smell when you first walk in is simply divine. If you’re a seafood lover, this is the place for you!! They also have a kids menu, for the little ones. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and the stand outs were the oysters, the crab bruschetta (a Spring special), calamari and the Truffle Garlic Fries. For the mains, a few of us ordered the Crab Chowder bread bowl with Caesar salad, a single Combo platter (mussels, half crab, shrimp), garlic noodles, and crab fried rice. Everything was soooo delicious and cooked perfectly, the drinks were all equally delicious as well. Shout out to our server Maria R.!!!
The Killer Combo was extremely tasty! Great atmosphere, lovely breezes through dining area
This place is worth every penny I spent on delicious food. The food was so fresh im a huge seafood person. The crab cakes were so light and season just right it didn't take the crab tatse away. Now ive never seen crab enchiladas, so much crab was in them the sauce was just light enough to give it extra flavor nothing over powered another all the ingredients were fresh I could tell. Everyone in our group was happy with the food n price our waiter was very nice and checked on several times .He made sure our waters were never low and if we needed anything. Yes its a small restaurant but worth the wait and price. They do not spilt check other than 2 parties so just a heads up. Make a reservation for groups bigger than 6.
Food had been inconsistent in terms of taste. We went back lunch and dinner. We ordered super combo with fried rice, clam chowder and garlic noodle for lunch. Taste was salty and savoury. For dinner, we ordered combo, veg, steak which was too well done and salad. I would say the dinner combo was abit bland. The only highlight was the cheese cake. Very soft tender and sweetness right on the mark. The use of the cream perhaps can be substituted with gelato or creamy ice cream to make it perfect. Something to check on the quality over the days.
I had a enjoyable experience on a beautiful day, sunny, sunlight sparkling off the water, it was a crowded around the Pier. The restaurant was full, not many open seats, the window seats were all taken. Highly recommended on a nice day or night. I tried the crab chowder, which was delicious. The crab garlic noodles were good, but the garlic noodles were a bit stiff, maybe slightly over cooked. The crab was perfect however. The crab nachos were also quite delicious. The service was polite and mostly prompt, until it got a bit busier, there was a noticeable wait for the rest of the visit. I look forward to going back and trying some of the other choices.
It was December, Dungeness crab season was in full swing, and we were ready to cure our cravings. Located on the second floor at Pier 39 the restaurant is large, clean, open and definitely touristy. But the prices were competitive, at least for Dungeness crab. We had reservations for six at 7:30 p.m. on a Saturday and were seated right away. The Dungeness crab was fresh and served piping hot. The garlic butter leaned a bit on the salty side, but the New England–style crab chowder was excellent. Comforting, rich, flavorful, and good depth of flavor. Service was excellent , attentive and friendly throughout the meal. My only wish is that the crab had been served with the back intact. That concentrated, miso-like richness is my favorite part of the crab. Happy Eating!!
The atmosphere and service was good. The food is good too if it’s your thing. I’m from the East coast and we just do it differently. We had the half of crab, muscles and shrimp. They had a lot of parsley, too much, on the food and added white wine. Also, we inquired about the shrimp and was told that they are frozen. Wasn’t expecting that. The food was presented fast as hell. We ordered and 5 min later it was out. I wanted to change the order but the guy had put it in one min before and 4 min later it was on the table. Make sure you look at the little mini menu as well. The garlic noodles were ok too. If you are from out east, be sure you think about what you want and how you want it before you order. I’m sure I would have preferred the lemon pepper crab.
October 21, 2025- Tuesday. Today, I had the pleasure of dining at Crab House with my family in celebration of my aunt’s visit during her vacation. From the moment we arrived, the service was impressive — our server, Vanessa, was exceptionally courteous, attentive, and professional. She ensured that our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable, which truly stood out. While the restaurant was quite busy — a testament to its popularity — it did result in a slightly elevated noise level. Additionally, the lighting was a bit dim, and there was a faint, unusual scent upon entering. However, these minor details did not significantly detract from the overall experience. The lively ambiance, combined with the excellent service and the sense of warmth in the environment, made for a very pleasant evening. I would gladly return to Crab House and recommend it to others, especially for those looking for attentive service and a vibrant dining atmosphere.
Service was solid. The Killer Combo was hot with good flavor but not quite worthy of 5 stars. The spicy mango margarita was fantastic!
I had high expectations for great seafood since we were visiting the area. The food was ok. I ordered mussels and have had better in Ohio. I wanted to be able to give a better meal experience. The crab bisque was bland but did have plenty of crab. Hubby got fish and chips and it was tasty. Was a great experience though and server was great. Also got squid appetizer which had little flavor.
My wife and I visited here on a Monday afternoon. My wife had crab chowder in a sourdough bread bowl served with Caesar Salad and garlic bread. I had crab chowder with garlic noodles and crab. Everything was very delicious. The service was very efficient. Nice comfortable atmosphere.
After a rocky start due to a reservations miscommunication from the front desk, the rest of the staff was pretty good. Gino was amazing and took care of us at the table. The food was great and the drinks were good.
Dined at The Crab House at Pier 39 and had a decent experience overall. The restaurant is very loud and extremely crowded, which seems to be part of the appeal since it’s a busy spot that locals enjoy. Service was okay overall, but Alex truly stood out with attentive and friendly service. We ordered the crab steak with veggies on the side, the toasted tomato cheese bread (which was really good), calamari, and a whole crab — all solid. The standout dish of the meal was the crab fried rice, which was easily the best thing we ordered. Drinks were good as well. While the food was enjoyable, the atmosphere was overwhelming due to the noise and crowd. Great service from Alex and some strong dishes, but the environment keeps it at three stars.
Nice view, but unfortunately we didn’t enjoy the food. The crab, prawns, and mussels were too dry and salty. The fried crab rice wasn’t good either. It feels like you’re paying mainly for the view if you get a window seat. Overall, I wouldn’t really recommend it.
Crab house is popular so it's better to make a reservation via Yelp a couple hours in advance. You can walk around the pier to pass the time if needed. 1. Oysters were fresh, but tiny for $4 each, slightly bigger than the ones typically for happy hour. 2. Crab chowder: great, but small portion. 3. Garlic truffle fries: not sure what it was but they were quite average. 4. Calamari: nice and crispy! Had some fried onions in there for a bonus sweet fried touch. 5. Crab topped new york steak: steak was a little chewy, and the glazed sauce they had on top tasted strange. It also masked the taste of the crab, which already has a light flavor to it. Highly recommend AGAINST ordering the steak. 6. Garlic noodles: the star of the show! Tasted awesome. We were very excited to try this place, but it was quite mediocre. Service is okay, you have to wave people down for assistance sometimes. Interior is relatively clean. Bathroom is small (one toilet, one urinal type). Portions are smaller than expected, somewhat typical for seafood in San Francisco where you usually pay more for a smaller amount; and my comparison is with seafood recently in Monterey. Was it worth the $195 we paid for two people? Meh.
It is very cramped inside. We got the combo (double) and it wasn’t very big for the price! It came with shrimp, muscles and crab. Everything was well seasoned! The shrimp was amazing! The muscles were pathetic! They were the smallest muscles I’ve ever seen! The crab didn’t have hardly any meat. We also had the crab chowder. The crab chowder was really good! If we ever come back we both agreed we would only get shrimp and the crab chowder! For our bill being over $200 I was expecting more!
Remarkable Service, nice Ambient and the food is good but not anything special. They present it in great way, but taste wise is mediocre. In sum it is OK, but there is a much better place to eat if on Pier 39…
The crab looks nice but comes without sides. The garlic sauce is way to heavy and not very original. The ordered garlic fries were also lacking taste und full of unsensational cheese strips. Wouldn’t recommend it. Also the staff was not very welcoming. Had to ask for instructions about eating the crab by myself. Not forthcoming.
We were here 2 days ago. The service was good and the place was nice. We ordered different dishes and the presentation was good. However, for the crab topped cheeseburger, the crab didn’t really come through. It was bland and more of an afterthought of putting crab on a burger, the crab was overpowered by the cheese IMO. We also ordered NY steak, and although it was seasoned well, we specified we want it medium but it came out medium well. It was mostly brown with just a very thin pink on the center. We also ordered the cheeseburger to be medium but it also came out well done.
Came by during a weekday for lunch, in order to avoid the crowd's. Plenty of sits available, no wait time. The crab tasted good, but the service left a bit to be desired. I had seen multiple videos online of the hot plates with sauce being poured over it. Unfortunately seems like the regular "king crab" dish is NOT that. It is just a single crab. So if you're coming here from seeing a video online, ensure your dish is what you expect. Spoilers: It's probably going to be on the high-end side. Not the $50~100 currently posted.
Full disclosure: we did not get their specialty dishes, so maybe you'll enjoy it more if you do. My wife and I were thoroughly unimpressed from the moment we walked into the door. Service wasn't really welcoming. We had a reservation and they placed us in front of the kitchen so the wait staff was constantly bumping into the chair of our table. It took a while for anyone to notice we hadn't placed our order for anything. The floor manager (I assume) was the one who finally took our order and pretty much made us feel like we were an inconvenience to him. I usually don't knock points off so severely for service, but the food didn't really make up for it. We ordered the truffle fries and the garlic noodles with crab. They give a decent amount of crab meat but the overall dish lacked flavor despite using their house special garlic sauce. I guess I am just used to Chinese style garlic crab and noodles, where the flavors punch you in the mouth. The fries had truffle oil but not much salt unless you had a fry with some parmesan stuck to it. View of the bay is nice but honestly just feels like they don't really care about how their customers are enjoying the evening. Wouldn't come back and wouldn't recommend it to anyone I care about.
Been coming here for 13 years every time I’m in San Francisco, used to praise and rave about this place. Unfortunately looks like this place isn’t what it used to be. Me and 2 friends came around 6:30pm today and place wasn’t busy which is odd because even on a Wednesday evening there was always a wait. Ordered a few drinks, one of them you can see in the photo had a fly in it, brought it to the attention of the female manager who didn’t even seem to care nor tell the server since he came and asked about the missing Spicy Mando Margarita and when we told him, he joked about it brushing it off as whatever and kept joking about it the whole time. We ordered the calamari which was good but the portion size has gotten smaller and we ordered the Crab Feast. Crab was hot fresh and flavorful but we had got the same amount of crab legs as we did last time we ordered the 2 whole crabs. Bill came and they never took off the Margarita even tho they did replace it. I questioned it because that’s something they should have done in the beginning or discounted the check. Again server brushing it off as a joke. Spent $300 that tbh would have had better service and food at Joe’s Crab Shack for half the price as my friend mentioned too. Definitely going to start going to the Franciscan instead for now on.
Disappointing experience - No is No! Came here to enjoy some seafood and food was okay-ish. The crab cake was so flat and the sourdough bread for the crab chowder was so unnaturally sour. The service was abysmal - We were recommended the crab fried rice, of which we politely declined. The server then kept on re-offering on multiple occasions afterwards. Upselling and forcing a dish on your clients are two different things. Super over-charged too (but kinda expected in a touristy area ). Definitely not recommended!!
I ate here and took food to go, not realizing I was served spoiled crab and had to throw it away . The general manager was not very concerned that this happened and he possibly did not believe this was possible. Seafood lovers be careful eating here especially if you go near closing time!
