Opinions de Plain Jane San Francisco
This is the ideal combination of a greasy spoon and a cafe. The inside is bright and the staff are quick and efficient. The food is expensive but very worth it relative to the other mediocre, overpriced breakfast spots in the city. There were 3 or 4 other parties ahead of us in line and we probably only waited for 15 minutes. Definitely will be back! The rolled cannoli pancakes were out of this world.
We came for brunch on a Sunday @ noon and ordered the red velvet pancakes, the chicken and waffles, and the french toast. Everything was delicious (and not to mention beautifully plated)! The only downside to our experience was the wait—i think we waited 20 minutes to be seated, but it was worth it. I would definitely return!
This brunch was delicious! It was busy and there was a little wait for our food and beverages, but it was worth it. Everything tastes fresh and was displayed beautifully. I’ll definitely be returning!
i went on a wednesday morning (10am), and it was pretty empty. i got seated immediately, and my food was prepared quickly. i ordered the frisco omelette and red velvet latte with whipped cream. it was delicious and very filling.
I love Plane Jane's and Pancake Boy, their sister location. Just amazing. The PJ'S Monte Christo for the win 🏆 🙌
Valencia Street is a haven for bakery, coffee, chocolate, and brunch lovers. My friends and I never miss a good gathering in this area, and we’ve made Plain Jane a regular stop. This chic and modern yet Californian casual spot is always welcoming and impeccably clean. The food is amazing, with beautifully presented plates and artistic decorations. The flavors are well-mixed and balanced. I can’t recall the exact name, but their lobster Benedict was incredible!
We enjoyed our brunch at Plain Jane. The French toast waffle sandwich was the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had. The potatoes were perfectly crispy with amazing flavor. The coastal Benedict was also savory and perfectly seasoned. Amy made me the best coconut latte I have ever had! Would definitely return.
Their red velvet pancake is super yummy! This is the first brunch spot I went to where their coffee is actually good. It’s pretty spacious inside and the staff who took my order was really nice and friendly.
Tried the sweet flight and really enjoyed it, especially the french toast. They were so good! I’m definitely curious to try their waffles next time. Parking looked like it should’ve been easy, but I still had a hard time finding a spot.
First time at plain Jane and it was a wonderful experience. Drove all the way from Vacaville for breakfast, walking into the restaurant the atmosphere is calm and warm and friendly. Got greeted by staff right away and sat in under 1 min. Sat at the table for about 10 min before our orders got taken and then waited around at her 15-20 for our food. Bit longer than I would like to wait when the restaurant wasn’t busy but the food made it worth it. Food came out hot and perfect presentation was perfect. The shrimp and grits was nice and rich plenty of shrimp and a good sausage. The only thing that could have been better was for the grits to be seasoned a bit more. The bathroom was very clean and nicely maintained. 10/10 experience and worth the drive.
This is hands-down my favorite breakfast spot in all of SF. Everything is consistently superb, from the ingredients to the execution. My go-to order is the Big Jane’s Plate. The scrambled eggs are perfectly fluffy and moist, and the potatoes are seasoned just right with that fresh-out-of-the-oven crunch. And the coconut rice pancakes? Unreal. So fluffy and nutty, easily the best pancakes I’ve ever had. Will be going back on a weekly basis!
Ordered a coffee (not the greatest) and went with the Monte Cristo sandwich with greens on the side, which was a great choice. The greens were very fresh and the balsamic was excellent. Whenever a MC is on a menu, I always order one. This place has by-far the best in The Bay. My husband ordered a Bloody Mary that tasted very fresh, and the accoutrements were wonderful. He also enjoyed the duck hash with potatoes. One small note: the potatoes could benefit from a light herby finish to elevate the flavor, but overall the dish was enjoyable.
Absolutely loved this spot for Sunday brunch. We had the Monte Cristo with jam, the grande salad with fresh crab, the fried chicken and waffles, ube Latte (pictured), iced tea and the pistachio latte. Great spot for small groups, outdoor seating is avaliable for dog lovers, the service was quick and the ambiance was colorful and urban. Will definitely be back to try one of the egg dishes and the other latte flavors. Highly recommended!
Plain Jane is a hidden gem that will capture your heart with its vibrant vibe and delicious eats! It’s the perfect spot for a fun brunch with friends. I recently tried their French toast combo, which features a genius twist with cottage cheese, along with their chicken salad and lobster eggs benedict, each dish was amazing! And the drinks? Absolutely fantastic! The mimosa and pistachio latte are my absolute favorites. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

Food presentation is instagram worthy. Portions are huge. Their waffle is amazing and we ordered just a side of it and it was good by itself. Lobster scramble was good (they use real crab meat) though I didn't like the sweet taste of it. The oyster mushrooms scramble was amazing! It has a salty savory taste I usually look for in a breakfast. I would order it again but without cauliflower or sunflower seeds. Coffee is pretty good too. Service was alright. They were pretty attentive and friendly. Ambience is great. It's not too fancy but feels cozy inside like a typical breakfast place. The prices were high but I think they're reasonable. Our total bill was $80+ for two people but it's because I ordered a $33 lobster scramble I was so curious about. I wouldn't order it again but I'll definitely reorder the oyster mushroom scramble and the waffle.

By far the best brunch in the bay area - especially loved the red velvet pancakes, pistachio latte, and crab salad Definitely going to revisit multiple times to try other menus too

It’s a cute brunch place to hang out with the girls and there’s always a line outside but the waiting times can go quite long. We waited for about 30 min with no option to put our name down for a reservation which was quite annoying cause you’re just left standing outside in the street. Other than that, the food is really good. I personally had the Chorrizo Ave Scramble which I found too oily but honestly super tasty. The club sandwich was also very good. My favorite things were the lattes, we had the red velvet latte and the extreme toffee latte and both were delicious.
A charming spot that really hits the mark for brunch— offering comforting and tasty dishes. They certainly know how to keep the coffee flowing, which is always a huge plus in my book! Service was attentive and friendly
I’ve been to Plain Jane a few times and most recently last weekend; We ordered the red velvet pancakes, French toast, and chicken club sandwich to share. They offer a wide drink selection, and you can’t go wrong with some coffee and mimosas. The food was tasty, although we found the service to be rude this time around. We felt as if they were trying to turn tables as soon as they sat them.
This spot absolutely delivers on a classic, satisfying breakfast and brunch. The value is spot-on for San Francisco; you get generous, well-prepared portions without the shocking big-city price tag. I have to single out the stuffed French toast—it was incredible! Absolutely lived up to the hype and is a must-order. Be prepared, especially on weekends, as it gets very busy. But honestly, the food is worth a little patience

No 100% maple syrup offered at a place that highlights the pancakes. No fresh squeezed orange juice. The crab roll is pretty decent although it’s dry. Not worth $31 in my opinion. $25 would be a fairer price. The tip suggestion calculates on top of tax, which shouldn’t be allowed. Service was baseline passable, though the workers were nice.
Attentive servers and very friendly. I’m vegetarian and eat dairy and gluten free so not much choice in the menu. I ordered the mushroom scramble. Unfortunately the scrambled eggs were dry and not much vegetables in the dish. The potatoes were very oily.
it’s so small in there that the people next to you are basically sitting at your table with you. No space at all. I didn’t even take a picture of the food, that’s how over it I was. Half the potatoes were over-fried and trash. Seems like they expect you to season your own food around here too… I guess that’s a thing. But after I added some salt and pepper my oyster scramble was good. I ate one Pancake pf the 2. If you are not from California this tax is not a tip, it's to pay health insurance, So make sure
I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty disappointed. Nobody tells you how SMALL this place is — like uncomfortably small. Every time someone got up, they were basically bumping into my table… at one point someone’s whole backside was on my table. Zero space to move. My table was wobbly too, which just made it worse. Service was fast, I’ll give them that. Sat down at 10:02, waiter came at 10:08, took our order, and I was eating by 10:23. But the food was just ok — not bad, not great, just ok. Definitely expected better considering all the tiktok?
