We tried several other restaurants in the area but this was the best. The prices on the menu seem high, but the quality and quantity justify the prices. Example: other restaurants offer crab for $40 and you get one crab; here you get 1.5 crabs for $51. Another is the calamari frita appetizer for $21 which is the size of an entire plate compared to $17 for half the amount at other locations.
Crab sandwich was really good! Tons of crab meat, just enough mayo, and really good chewy sourdough. I tore the bread in half and used a fork to put crab on the bread bite by bite, because the bread is pretty chewy. Simple, but so so good! Honestly for 18 buck I feel like it was a really good value because it had so much crab meat. I eat a lot, and I got pretty full on the portion, so it's definitely generous.
Dungeness crab Pro-tip, "fresh is best". Warm, January afternoon at their efficient, spartan, outdoor picnic table setting that complements the walk-up counter ( pictured ) - I watched them cook my 2 pounder that just hours earlier was delivered from the boat pier just a block away. I watched as they boiled and then cracked the freshest crab i'll ever eat as they served it up with fresh lemon and yummy seafood sauce. Menu wasn't needed. Aside the counter was the large box with all the live crab and I just told them I wanted a whole crab for lunch and they could not have been nicer. Add some sour dough as a side and a glass of wine for the very best, freshest crab possible. Bear in mind this is mid-week ( uncrowded ), ONLY during the local commercial season (mid Jan - May)
While in SF, I tried 3 restaurants for clam chowder, and Sabella & La Torre was hands down the best!! I’m back home now and I’m still thinking about that clam chowder. We ordered from the stall outside the restaurant since they open at 10am and the restaurant itself opens at 11am. The service was quick (nothing fancy). I can’t wait to go back to SF to eat here again. (No photos bc I devoured that chowder).
This is a good place to eat in SF. The fish was very flavorful and and the bread tasted crisp. I know that the service was fast compared to most restaurants. The atmosphere had some noise but wasn’t too loud. Fish and chips and lobster ravioli I recommend.
This was an unexpected Gem. I was craving oysters, so we came in for the oysters Rockefeller, we also ordered the clams and oysters. Literally so good. The flavor was so rich and surprising on both dishes. We're so glad we stopped into this hidden gem. Seems like a place where locals would try to keep it a secret. Sorry if I'm blowing your cover! Also, the sourdough here was actually SOUR! Exactly what you should expect.
There are experiences that can’t be found in Michelin stars, but rather in the simplicity of a neighborhood restaurant that breathes tradition. After seven years of living in San Francisco and walking past Sabella & LaTorre countless times, I finally decided to step in. And what a gift it was. From the very beginning, the service won me over: genuine, attentive, unhurried. The kind of gesture that already tells you so much about the soul of a place. I felt welcomed, as if I had been invited to a family’s table. I ordered the clams & mussels with fries, paired with a glass of sparkling wine. The dish arrived steaming, releasing the intoxicating aroma of garlic and sautéed leeks, mingling with white wine to create a broth that was rich and comforting. The seafood was clearly fresh—tender, succulent, carrying the unmistakable taste of the ocean. The fries came out perfectly crisp, lightly seasoned, ideal for soaking up that broth. And with a final squeeze of fresh lemon, everything came alive—the bright acidity balanced and elevated every bite. But more than the food, it was the experience that struck me. Between sips, I realized I was breaking an old prejudice. For years, I judged this place from the outside, never giving it a chance. Today, I left with the certainty that richness lies in the details, in simplicity, and in human warmth. Sabella & LaTorre is not just a restaurant—it’s a reminder that living in the present, opening yourself to the unexpected, and savoring each moment can transform even a casual lunch into a memorable experience.
Was craving clam chowder in a bread bowl. Got just what I wanted. Food came out less than 3 minutes after we ordered. Amazing. Some say there’s not enough potatoes and clams, but I thought it was just splendid creamy smoky clam soup to eat with the bread. Bread is tangy and sour, so yummy. Staff were attentive and kind. The design and interior isn’t anything fine dining-esque. Seating is comfortable and works just fine!

Just the best crab of my life. Very fresh and tasty. Service was perfect and we had the chance to eat on the terrasse. Thanks a lot for this wonderful moment.

The chowder in a bread bowl was excellent. Service was fast and helpful. The lady who I assumed was one of the owners came out and helped serve food when they got busy. Very friendly.
The restaurant is a wee bit dated. The furniture is old and design needs to be updated. The booth tables can barely hold 4 comfortably - 2 adults on each side. Need more space to enjoy your food. What they lack in outlook and space is made up for with their good food and service. Staff are friendly and helpful. Prices before taxes and tips. - NY Steak Sandwich @ US$26 | 9.0 out of 10.0 I really love steak. Paired with the bread for different consumption method. The portion is great for an adult. Lots of great tasting French fries. - Crab Sandwich @ US$24 | 8.0 out of 10.0 Plenty of great tasting French fries. Bread was great. Crab fillings was really good but it was serve cold which we did not expect. - Fish & Chips @ US$26 | 8.5 out of 10.0 French fries were good as per other 2 dishes. Fish fillet was deep fried nicely. Batter was good. The tartar sauce was fantastic. Menu prices were a bit expensive. I would compare to other restaurants in the area before I decide in the future.
Out of all the fisherman's wharf tourist traps, Sabella is my favorite. It's one of the oldest places on the strip and you can tell by the condition of the interior. The food is old school, fresh, flavorful and pricey. The cioppino is not the typical broth type, it is actually in a heavy and thick tomato based sauce almost like a marinara. This is actually the way I like it, and it's packed with seafood. Everything else is pretty standard but it's the freshness of the seafood that you're looking for.
Clam chowder was super creamy with lots of clams. Garlic crab was yummy, super garlicky.

Came here with my family on Christmas. The food was delicious, but the service was very poor. I understand that working on a holiday isn’t ideal, but that’s not the customers’ fault. The only positive interactions we had were with the bartender, who kindly offered us a table, and the busboy who walked us to our seats. Unfortunately, the servers were rude and aggressive. Items were literally thrown onto the table. The server who brought water splashed it all over the table due to how forcefully it was poured and didn’t apologize or clean it up. The other server who took our order repeatedly walked away before I could finish speaking. I had to call him back more than once, and even then, he left again without confirming whether I was done ordering. Because he rushed us so much, I wasn’t able to order drinks until after the food arrived. Overall, the service was disappointing, but the food was amazing. Highly recommend the seafood express 😋
Quick lunch place if on a rush schedule. We had the clam chowder in sourdough bread, but it didn't taste as good as the ones I tried in other places. Bread tastes plain and clam chowder is not so flavorful. There is very little clam meat inside. Servers are very proactive to get customers in.

Me and my husband were looking for local seafood shop and we stopped by this restaurant, looked like good cheap eats it was raining a man invited us to sit inside we asked him if we can order something on the outside menu he said yes, when we sat inside the name of the place was the same but we were given a completely different menu with extremely high prices. We couldn’t even order from the menu outside because he said “thats different?” I don’t like this scam, only reason for 2 stars because the food we ate was decent
We hadn't finished our meal when one of the waitstaff took our plates away. It was a mix of laughter and disappointment at what had just happened. Comfort room smell bad must be cleaning it every hour and put the fresher air perfume..
I honestly expected better from a place so full and at such a touristy spot. Everything was unsalted. Fried calamari was so good and the tartar sauce is delicious, only lacked salt. Clam chowder was bland, shrimp cocktail only tasted like raw tomatoes, lobster mac and cheese was good and has a lot of lobster and fish and chips all needed more salt. service was very nice but i wouldnt recommend this place because of the food sadly
We were on fisherman's wharf, looking for a lobster roll, faced with 10 identical stands. A man came out of Sabella & La Torre and said "I have one more table, come". I can appreciate this audacity, so we did. We were led through the stand into a deceptively complete restaurant and given water and some delicious sourdough bread. It was downhill from there. The service was slow, but I think that's because of the gonzo seating tactics of the scout. Our server was actually quite funny, just clearly stretched thin. The lobster roll was $36 (reasonably competitive for the wharf) but it was more like a lobster salad, minced up, unseasoned, and haphazardly plated. Mine had shell in it. If I hadn't reeeeeally wanted a lobster roll I barely would have wanted to finish it. Overall I would just recommend grabbing one from one of the walk up stands. Don't bother with this charade of a sit down restaurant, this is not the place for it.

Had the chowder in a bun - bland , no seafood in it or any seafood taste just thick corn starch gooo in a bun …literally a can of supermarket seafood soup is better !
Tasteless seafood. Even the Dungeness crab was barely flavorful with lemon and added salt. The bar was very very loud with drunk patrons. The waiter didn’t give us crab forks. When we asked, he brought us one. We had to ask for another. He made us feel lucky that we got bread and butter. Place was sadly garbage. Do not go.
worst food but only expensive stale dungeon crab stale sea food salad clam chowder only with milk and flour wo clam taste at all smelly place bad service …. i see reasons why the original fisherman’s warfs restaurants went down.
I had a really disappointing experience here. My friend and I came hoping to enjoy a nice seafood meal, but unfortunately the entire visit was unpleasant. First, the food did not taste fresh, which was already a letdown for a seafood restaurant in San Francisco. On top of that, communication was difficult because our waiter spoke very little English, which made ordering and asking simple questions frustrating. The biggest issue was the disruption during our meal. A table next to us dropped their phone between the booth seats, and instead of handling it quietly, the staff created a huge scene. Multiple employees came over using large brooms and sticks trying to retrieve the phone, loudly talking back and forth while reaching into the booth area. It completely interrupted the atmosphere while my friend and I were trying to enjoy our dinner. Overall, the experience felt chaotic and unprofessional. Between the lack of fresh food, communication issues, and the disruption during our meal, it just wasn’t worth the time or money. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this place.
The food was so bad. White wine sauce seemed like it was just melted butter and white wine. Clam chowder only had one clam in it and tased more like potatoes than anything else. For a place that’s 50$ per person I expected at least decent food. The staff was nice but I would have rather had good food lol
