Wine and cheese - what's not to like? Gets pretty packed, but worth the wait.
That cheesesteak with the tiny pickles... didn't know I was missing that in my life, staff was cool
Awesome wine bar with amazing pinot noir blanc
Cool spot. Great wines and charcuterie boards.
Small neighborhood spot good for a glass of wine and small bites before dinner or a night out.
Very very good. A precius moment with good wine good meat and very good cheese.
The food is outstanding and service is always very friendly, love this place!
Chic bar/eaterie, house-made charcuterie plates are amazing.
The best part is to see the trolleys running up and down the hill while enjoying nice wine
OMG. Love it. Amazing charcuterie. Even if you don't like uni, try the pate/mousse. I mean it as a compliment when I say it's bougie. 🤗
Delicious wine and cheese!! Such a fun place for a drink
The ghost pepper salami is exceptional! They have an in-house cheese monger - have her craft you a cheese board.
Great wine bar with excellent bar snacks.
favorite wine bar in the city Everything from the ambience to the wine to the charcuterie boards Great wine variety !
My favorite wine bar in the city. Only wish that they were open a bit later.
Perfect place for a glass of wine and awesome house made charcuterie. Maybe some foie for dessert!
Awesome spot with wine on tap and tasteful small plates to pair with your vino
Great small plates, good vibes and selection of wines.
Delicious and so friendly! The handmade charcuterie should not be missed.
Best wine & cheese combo I have found in SF. Seriously. The. Best.
Great place to have a good glass of wine and great food!!!! Love it
I love this place! One of me and my husband's favorite date spots for night or day. Absolutely divine selections of meats and cheeses with great beers and wines.
Fun place! Good food! Great service! We found a seat quickly. I like beer. My wife likes wine. Best of both worlds.
Really unique place. The food was fantastic! I had the Pork Reuben and it was awesome! You can watch the cable cars go by while eating lunch or dinner. It was a great place to find off the beaten path.
Great people and a fantastic selection of wine. Add bread and cheese and how could you go wrong? Very happy we found this place.
Great spot with large assortment or cheeses and meets, wine as well. Lovely interior and very friendly staff ready to help you choose if you aren't sure. Highly recommend!
Wine bar - great for catching up with friends, happy hour or a date. Love the big windows looking out onto Hyde. Good list of wines and small plates with nice service.
Fantastic wine! The cheese and meat boards are amazing. The staff are attentive and super nice.
Great bar with extensive wine selection, delicious appetizers and friendly staff…apps are on the smaller end so we tried most of the menu , highly recommend
Great wine list and nice bites. Attentive service. Recommended!
Wine and appetizers are pricey but I love the atmosphere of this place. Staff is extremely friendly and overall it's just a great place to get a glass of wine with some friends.
Wine is good. Vibes are great. Oysters are delicious. Their California cheesesteak is to die for.
Really excellent little place, if you can find a seat! Great wine selection, excellent selection of cheese, meat, oysters, etc.
The steak & cheese sandwich is pretty amazing. I wouldn't compare it to a traditional philly style but it hits the spot all the same.
Classy wine bar where you can pair with cheese and meats. Great place to take a good friend who's from out of town.
Amazing place for a friend date or a date-date. Food and wine are both delectable. Will come back again soon!!
Beautiful interior, great selection of cheeses and wines, tends to be very crowded and loud, but it does not gets in the way of enjoying a glass of wine
One of my favorite SF wine bars. Great selection and awesome ambiance
fabulous wine selection. fabulous ambiance. felt like being in a spa practically i was so relaxed and rejuvenated by this experience. we WILL be back <3
Great wines and small plates. Stylish, comfortable atmosphere. Well run and friendly.
Really good quality local charcuteries, imported cheeses and good wines and beers. Cozy atmosphere if a bit cramped
Awesome place. Great wine, food, and service
Fantastic way to start off a weekend in SF. Worth the hike up Hyde from the Argonaut. Great food, wine, ambiance. Coming from Tempe, the open windows and breeze just added to the wonderful experience. Cheers!
Great vibe, excellent wine and friendly service.
This is one of my favorite places in the city. The charcuterie is perfectly paired with the wine, and it's quite a magical feeling to watch the trolleys go by on the road out the window at a 45 degree angle. They don't take reservations, but it is worth the wait no matter what.
cute little bar, definitely great for first dates! the wines are pretty good, and they help you pick if you’re don’t really know much about wines (me…) definitely note that it does get a little packed, since it’s a little place but definitely worth checking if they have room!
Great Place for a tasty start to the evening or light bites with well paired wines. Rich, tasty boards of cheese, prosciutto and more that you can just keep ordering as you sip some lovely wines.
One of my favorite wine bars in San Francisco. The wine selected is rooted and doesn't feel trendy at all and they serve an excellent array of food from their mini kitchen. Definitely a date a great date night spot.
Great place. Good wine list, awesome charcuterie and cheese selection. Their cheese fondue is very tasty as well. And of recent they have a corn based app also (hot or cold) that is great.
Delicious cheese sampler and wines! The cheese sample platter is a bit small but if you order the meats with it, you should have plenty of food. I also enjoyed the almonds which had a flavorful mixture of spices. Great laid back environment!
The oysters were some of the best I’ve ever had! The cheese steak sandwich was also yummy but not as mind-blowing as the oysters. The Austrian and German rieslings they suggested were fantastic, complex and the perfect amount of dryness (wish I recalled the names!).
One of my favorite places as a local resident of Russian Hill. Relaxed. Good food. Friendly staff. All with cable cars passing by the large windows. A delightful place for locals to hang out and enjoy the neighborhood.
Let's be clear from the beginning; this place is expensive. However, if you are looking for a treat or something exotic, decadent then this is the place. The meats, cheeses, condiments are of the utmost quality. The burrata is a rich, decadent, but nuanced delight. The service is outstanding as well.
Great food and wine. Tapas place is one of my favorites in SF. Gets crowded and noisy so pick your moments and grab a seat whenever it's available. Love the grilled cheese, cheesesteak, and foie gras.
One of my favorite neighborhood spots! They have an awesome wine selection and a generous charcuterie serving! Also Union Larder has a great atmosphere for several different occasions!
Slightly pricey but what wine bar isn't...The inside is adorable! Straight out of a tv set (the Bear, anyone?) With cured meat hanging from the ceiling and pots and pans out and about. They picked two delicious cheeses for us and a great wine selection as well. Go for the atmosphere, stay for the tasty sips and bites.
A fantastic wine bar in Russian Hill. Delicious food and a great drink menu all served in a lively setting. If you love salted cured meats then this is the place for you. The ghost pepper salami was the standout with the pate coming in a close second. The drink selection is great, as it should be. They have wines from all over the world and a nice selection of beer offerings. Everything was moderately priced and the service was great. Dos thumbs up 👍👍
This is an amazing place to grab a glass of wine or maybe stay a couple hours for food and more wine. We had a bottle of Albariño, a few oysters, 3 cheeses and 2 meats from their selection. They were all fantastic. This place is such a vibe you can’t go wrong with coming here. It is a bit small so you may have to share tables or wait but it’s worth it.
Walked in on a Friday afternoon (5pm) and grabbed seats easily. The service was excellent and the wine/food was fantastic too. Love the big windows which made it fun to people watch.
Great place for tapas and wine. Their wine selection is super ample and the bar tenders are pretty nice about letting you try different bottles and vintages. They also have an extensive cheese offering, great Spanish, Italian and local charcuterie. Their meatballs are amaze!
Lovely little place, great atmosphere. Our server was super friendly! We had the bresaola, which was amazing, and the cheese fondue, which was also delicious (big portions! Two portions will feed three people). The charcuterie is almost all housemade and they have a great selection of cheeses.
The food here is several levels above majority of wine bars. The pickles, tartare , nicoise and Mortadella are all excellent and unique. I must try rest of menu. Good wine selection too and props for carrying Agua de Piedra. Great background sound too
Been scavenging wine bars recently, and this one came highly recommended! Loved the wine, ambience, food and service here - was truly a great experience. Wine list is very well picked out and balanced. For food we got the: - Wagyu meatballs -Charcuterie Board (it had ghost pepper salami sooooo…you kind of have too?) Place is a bit small and narrow, promoting a kind of romantic, tight knit vibe- nonetheless super, super fun. Will be keeping this one in my back pocket for any and all future flexes💪🏽 . Can’t wait to come back here!
One of my favorite Wine Bars in San Francisco, great ambiance, not trying too hard, & has a superb wine selection. This is somewhere where you come for a bottle of wine + cheese board. The fact it’s somewhere I have been coming prior to the pandemic, and survived makes it even more appealing.
Amazing food, great wine, super friendly service. Communal share tables contribute to the buzzy atmosphere. Delicious cheese selection.
Overall: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Came here for pre-dinner drinks. Great ambiance and wine selection. We had dinner reservations elsewhere so did not eat anything substantial. Their house pickled vegetable were nice and light. Only complaint is that their barstools don’t have a back rest. Can’t really sit there for too long. Maybe that is planned 😊
The wine list by the glass and the boqerones swayed me to give five stars over four. Really delightful place - casual yet refined European vibe. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, and a really great (and sometimes surprising) wine selection, both old and new world. A little disappointed with the jamon iberico, but the Alto Adige speck was excellent. I tried: - Terra Santa, Vermentino/Chardonnay, Corsica: inexpensive, but more than a value wine - Reeve Super Tuscan blend, grapes from Sonoma and Santa Barbara (or somewhere down that way?) - hot and dry terroir but it works - Cezar Marquez Mencia from Spain - something heavy to end the evening on.
Great wine selection & excellent service! Loved that they let us stand & order wine while we waited for a seat

5 ⭐️ I love this wine bar! It's intimate, cozy, sleek, and moody - perfect for wine lovers, dates, or friends. The wine list is very extensive (many more choices than Verjus even tho I love that place too). Very first date appropriate but also good for many dates in. I like sitting at the bar, partially bc the bartenders are super nice and knowledgeable. The wine is actually good!! And so many options to choose from! We like the Scribe, Union Sacre chilled red, and Riesling. Overall, a very vibey date spot - you can't go wrong.
This review is way overdue. I’ve probably been here close to 20 times, it’s a short walk for me. I love the wine selection and ambiance. Everyone I’ve introduced to Union Larder also falls in love with it.
Owned by the same owner (little vine). Awesome space to snack away + hang out with friends.

Very nice bar with a good selection of wines and finger food
Great spot for wine. Awesome meat and cheese platter but a bit pricy.
Great wine and oyster selections. Go to spot if you're waiting for a table across the street at Elephant Sushi.
Nice neighborhood wine bar. Nice selection of wines and small bites. A little on the loud side.
really crowded (and overpriced) but great choice of good wines and tapas.
This place has a very raffinate interior decoration, and food is delicious. Prices are quite high but in line with the quality of the offered service. Local products are a must-take in this restaurant.
Wine and cheese spot, good location, no AC, so not great on a got day. Wine was excellent and well-priced.
Great buzz, decent beer, great choice of wines. Good service and the grub looked tasty.
very positively impressed. a good selection of wines at a decent price per glass. Some really nice cheese and charcuterie boards too. 10 bucks for each pinch of cheese or charcuterie is quite a price for nibbles though. we were wild on the olives and pickles though. it'll have to be a 4 star +++ until the pricing is sorted out though. 140$ for what can only be called a snack for two is too much.
Fun space - great for a date. It's all self seating at the bar and a couple high top tables. The bar tender was very friendly and helped me pick a really interesting glass of wine. We enjoyed 4-5 small plates between three people. Everything was very good, but it's pricey (like most wine bars and tapas places....of which this is both!)
Great wine bar on Russian Hill. Wonderful selection of wines by the glass and bottle. Union larger also has a fantastic cheese menu with a unique selection of cheeses. The venue is modern yet warm.
Tucked away in the vibrant heart of San Francisco lies a true gem for wine lovers: a wine bar with international flair, refined taste, and meticulous attention to detail. The global wine selection is outstanding, with a notable focus on Australian and New Zealand labels—two from each we sampled, and were thoroughly impressed. The culinary offerings beautifully complement the wine experience, with dishes that are both elegant and flavorful. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between modern sophistication and warm hospitality. Rounding out the visit is a courteous, knowledgeable staff—attentive without being intrusive.
This is a great place to grab a glass of wine and an appetizer. The service was great, and the ambience was delightful! It also smells delicious in here. I will definitely come back.
I like the wine selection, food is a great combination of French/ Italian. Duck, charcuterie board, cheese plates all amazing. Salads, hummus also as good. Fun vibe.

Good spritz. Very loud
Good vibes, bad wine - fondue was fine
Wine was great, although overpriced for a city with many wine happy hours nearby. Cheese selections can be customized, which was nice however portion was very small and I wish I they could recommend cheese/wine pairing. I ended up getting a red and my friend a white with no recommendations to our cheese platter
Very nice environment. Was full when we arrived with a real buzzing atmosphere. We got a couple of seats at the bar straight away. Wine felt overpriced and the food even more so. $21 for three tiny pieces of cheese and four slices of french stick bread. Bar service was ok, bar tender was a pretty surly chap - very functional and certainly not friendly.
This is a very nice space with very friendly and pleasant staff. A lot of love from the bartender, who clearly loves and appreciates wine. Zero complaint on those notes. The cheese is delectable, too... This being said, the meat and wine is underwhelming. I was moved to write this review because I am eating leftovers and really could take a bite of anything - duck terrine, county pate, meatballs - and not tell the difference, except by texture. Not any character to these items. We also had the summer salad and it was flavorless with bland ingredients, just normal produce that you get in the states, rather than the top-flight tomatoes one might expect for a darling establishment like this. All in all, a nice date spot with cool decor and pleasant staff, but not the epicurean delight it presents itself as.
I was here to keep my friend company. There was a huge wait for seating and it was super loud here. Seems to be a place that is frequented by locals.

Overpriced for the city. Cheese platter was too small for the price. Bacchus across the street is lower cost and less yuppies
Decent food and drinks with a side of racism? My friend and I barely had a chance to finish our drinks (I still had some wine in my glass) when two servers made a point to ask us literally every 3 minutes if we wanted anything else, to which we said no. This happened at least 4 times in a row. It felt like they couldn’t get rid of us fast enough, when no one was even waiting for a table. The people next to us on both sides lingered just as long and weren’t harassed like this. I have to wonder if this had anything to do with my Black (guy) friend, because we definitely got the “house special”. I’ve never experienced “service” like that and I definitely won’t be back.
Service and Atmosphere matter so small business owners should mind who they hire. We were a party of 4 Russian Hill neighbors. Instead of going to our usual spot, Muse, we deeply regret our choice to try Union Larder. The staff was incredibly rude and told the four of us to make use of 4 bar stools in a corner. We didn't fit in the space allotted. The staff literally said, "we might need space for other customers." Meanwhile, staff was totally inattentive to our needs and did nothing to tell us about their food. The staff was so preoccupied with guarding empty bar stools as they appeared mostly anxious and worried about whether they had volume sufficient to net gratuity before the end of their shift. It was blatantly obvious and I felt embarrassed and uncomfortable. They would have done better to focus on service and selling up their food choices. Instead, our night sucked, nothing was interesting and no staff attempted to make it interesting. I don't even know what food they serve. My party did 2 drinks a piece (8 total) and no food, even though we had come with an appetite. Then we hit the road. I recommend firing the lot, get some folks who find pleasure in the business, wish to make suggestions to customers, and who will ensure customers feel welcomed. Bunch of restaurant hacks at this place. Total lipstick on a pig scenario. Though it looks nice from the exterior, it only offers disappointment and no value.
It’s a great bar for your first date; but no one returns to it for second date; and therefore it’s not a neighborhood bar; but It’s exterior architecture - a transportation hub / station converted to a bar - is startlingly good; the interior is classy but doesn’t create a sense of belonging . Stools are designed to traumatize your posterior; without that neighborly feeling , just an another brick in the wall!
