Opinions de Saint Frank San Francisco
The best and authentic Austrian/ German Bavarian food in San Francisco. Highly highly recommend to anyone that wants to get the real deal! You get it all from the perfect schnitzel to spätzle and sausages that taste like they came straight from home. The portions are great the beer selection is on point. Have to mention the atmosphere, honesty.. feels like home :) Friendly staff, warm vibes and flat out solid food. Coming again soon! 🇦🇹 🇩🇪
Made a Resy reservation pretty easily and got dinner here. There was only one server this evening but it didn’t seem too busy so time management was fine. We ordered the giant pork knuckle, potato cake, and schnitzel. Schnitzel is delicious and the pork knuckle was actually massive and pretty salty so maybe good to get something to cut the taste. Overall satisfied with our food and meal!
We will be back, but next time we're going to be camping out on Sunday afternoon since they sell out of their schweinshaxe almost as soon as they open. So that was the only dissapointment. Otherwise the food is astounding. The last time I had anything Austro-German (Saxon?) was in Liepzig....at a beerhall that's been around for _centuries_. Service was a little slow and we had to remind our otherwise efficient and personable waitperson of forgotten drinks. But at the end of the day the food was impeccable so it's hard to nitpick. The only other missing star was for the wide-screen TV for (American) football. Not a fan. And it really throws off the otherwise genuine beerhall vibe. Parking can be tricky so Lyft is your best friend.
Great Bavarian spot. Super friendly staff, good food and they have 2L boots! Definitely recommend this place!
Great food, price point and atmosphere. The smoked trout salad in particular was outstanding, really light and bright and super well balanced. A gem!
I stumbled upon Leopold’s by accident while searching for dinner along the street, and it turned out to be a great find. The chicken was delicious, paired with nicely cooked vegetables. The chips were also excellent. The beer recommended by the staff was fantastic—I enjoyed it so much I ended up having three! The staff were friendly and attentive, and one of them was even kind of cute, adding a fun element to the experience. Overall, Leopold’s is a great spot for a casual meal with good drinks and friendly service. Highly recommended.
So they do need to reacquaint themselves with salt but food is generally well seasoned. Schnitzel is really good. Soup seems an afterthought. The kitchen can be slow so bring your patience. Service is friendly and good. Don’t rush you out.
Fantastic Wiener schnitzel and an outstanding pretzel. The bier cheese sauce was divine. Great atmosphere, highly recommend if you’re looking for an Austrian dinner spot!
German food is not one of our regular cuisines so I was excited to try this place, based on previous reviews. Unfortunately I did not try the beers so I can’t comment on that but the food was delicious, the schnitzel was my favorite and I’ll definitely be coming back for that. I had the Linzor tort which I thought was way too sweet and the apple strudel was okay, next time I would skip the dessert
We are from Austria and visited San Francisco and to our surprise we found Leopold's Austrian Restaurant. The wine, the beer, the appetizer and entrees were impressive, that's how delicious everything was. From the second we walked in we were treated wonderful, everyone was so friendly. We went back a second time because it was THAT GREAT.
German food is new to me. I loved pretty much everything we ordered, and we ordered quite a bit of food. There were six of us. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
Leopold’s is a really special place, and if you enjoy Austrian/German cuisine, you should definitely visit. We’ve come here twice so far, and each time we’ve had a wonderful experience. The food is exceptional—the best Austrian/German in the Bay Area! The star of the show is the Wiener schnitzel—absolutely incredible! All of the entrees and appetizers we’ve tried have been delicious, especially the käsespätzle and bratwurst. They have a decent selection of German beers as well. Their desserts are sub-par, and I wouldn’t recommend ordering these—but I’m optimistic that they will improve over time. Despite the less than satisfactory desserts, I still give them 5 stars because everything else is amazing, including the atmosphere! It’s just so warm and cozy inside, with hospitable service, you really do feel like you’re transported to an Austrian mountain town for a genuine European experience!
Always trying to find good Austrian or German food, this place did not disappoint! From the great beer options to the perfectly prepared wienerschnitzel and linzer torte, this brought back memories from my youth. It's difficult to find such good establishments as most rely on word of mouth for advertisement, but I am glad I walked by it earlier that day. It was a great meal to end the day!
Made a Resy for 8 people on a Thursday evening and had a great time! They ring a bell if someone in your group gets a beer boot! Good for big or small groups but might be helpful to have a reservation for groups more than 4. We will definitely be back soon. Our group really liked the goulash and, of course, the schnitzel! I wasn’t sure about gluten free options for me so got the arugula salad (+ chicken) to be safe and I didn’t have any issues with it :)
Wow. This place was amazing. I don’t get the snobbish comments saying otherwise. We enjoyed an excellent Austrian beer and wine. We had the braised short ribs (fall-off-the-bone tender), the bratwurst and sauerkraut, and the bacon-wrapped trout. All three dishes were delicious. Although the trout was a bit dry, the leek medley and broth served with it were exceptional: crisp, tender, and very flavorful. It’s truly rare to find a vegetable accompaniment that shines like this. (Too often the vegetables are just a space filler on the dish.) the beer selection was fun and interesting as was the small selection of international wines. Service was friendly. Atmosphere was warm and cheerful. Oh, and the pretzel was a 4.5 out of 5. And this is coming from a pretzel aficionado, who has eaten them all over Europe and is always looking to replicate and experience in southern Germany.
Great resturant, solid european beer selection. Mike and Carla are awesome hosts, definitely gonna be around more often 👍 Thanks for the stories guys.
I’ve got to say, this might be my favorite restaurant. I come here all the time, the atmosphere is amazing, the food is delicious, the beer is great. It’s a nice place and all around fun time.
Unfortunately, worth the hype. I am sad about the many mornings I will freeze in line to get this... For the snobs: Yes, you'll find coffee and beans that are comparable in many places in sf (we're privileged like that, aren't we?). This place is not a coffee shop, though. It's a coffee experience. All credits to the team. You get to know and discuss your coffee with knowledgeable and kind staff. I will see y'all soon :)
This review is for the subscription coffee service! I have been lucky enough to be the proud owner of an espresso machine. Saint Frank beans are truly the best anywhere. Every morning I pull an amazing shot of espresso and it's just so heavenly and delightful. The craftsmanship that goes into this coffee is wonderful. Don't hesitate to try their subscription service--truly incredible the value that Saint Frank offers for these exquisite blends!!
Saint Frank Coffee on Polk St. is a testament to the art of coffee, and it's far more than just a place to grab a quick cup; it's an immersive experience for true coffee enthusiasts, highlighted by their exceptional coffee flight. The atmosphere here is clean, minimalist, and brightly lit, exuding a sophisticated yet welcoming vibe. The space is thoughtfully designed, allowing the focus to remain squarely on the coffee itself. While it can certainly get busy, the clever layout prevents it from ever feeling overly crowded, offering a calm and refined respite from the city's hustle and bustle. This is truly where Saint Frank shines brightest. Their unwavering commitment to sourcing quality beans and executing precise brewing methods is evident in every single cup they serve. While all their espresso and pour-over offerings are consistently excellent, the Coffee Flight stands out as the undeniable star attraction. This unique offering typically features three distinct coffees, often showcasing different origins or processing methods, each meticulously prepared in various ways—perhaps an espresso, a macchiato, and a pour-over. It provides an incredible opportunity to explore the subtle nuances of their diverse offerings and truly appreciate the intricate craft behind each brew. Every component of the flight is meticulously prepared and beautifully presented, often accompanied by a small card detailing the beans' origins and characteristics. The baristas themselves are knowledgeable, genuinely passionate, and always happy to guide you through their menu, especially if you're trying the flight for the first time. They operate with efficiency and take immense pride in their work, ensuring that each drink is nothing short of perfect. Overall, Saint Frank Coffee is an absolute must-visit for anyone serious about their coffee. The quality is consistently top-notch, the atmosphere is wonderfully refined, and the coffee flight offers a unique and genuinely educational tasting journey. It's undoubtedly a premium coffee experience, but one that is unequivocally well worth the price. For a truly memorable visit, definitely make time to try the Coffee Flight; it's a fantastic way to appreciate their diverse beans and unparalleled brewing expertise
Loved the filtered coffee and pastries! So nice that they have vegan options. I was surprised that the vegan orange muffin with pistachio? that was also gluten free was actually moist and soft inside and chewy in a good way! Not vegan but the mushroom pastry with bechamel sauce was also really good! It was buttery, flaky, and crispy. Definitely recommend this place! Note there is a bit of a line in the morning
Excellent cappuccino served by professional staff in a clean modern decor with pleasant outside seating. We visited this establishment after tasting their beans at Storey coffee house in Livermore and were impressed. The staff is caring, kind and engaged. Premises are modern and clean. We scored an outside table and were able to savor exceptional cappuccinos on a sunny San Francisco day in late February. There was never not a line but it moves quickly. All locals which speaks to a loyal following who are able to revel in the amazing arabica flavors and aromas. We bought beans as St Frank roasts their own, and they have produced amongst the best cups we’ve ever prepared at home. Visit this top establishment, buy their beans and make the exceptional experience last long after you leave.
This is the flagship SF location for Saint Frank coffee (the other one closed and there is one more on the Peninsula) so it gets a little busy especially on weekends but the coffee here is worth it. The pour over drip was a little bit on the bitter side but still tasty and paired with creamer well. Inside the staff are friendly and take your order quickly. There are lots of seats and different table options for when you want to sit down. Decor is very modern and airy which adds to the ambiance here. The only downside is there is no WiFi on the weekends but I heard that even on weekdays when it is available the connection is slow. Prices are reasonable for SF so good option for your regular coffee rotation.
One of the best coffees in SF. Super popular and very stylish & light/ bright interior - high ceilings and neutral decor. The staff are very well versed at making the perfect coffee and are meticulous in their processing & preparation. The result is an absolutely perfect coffee that looks and tastes just beautiful. Highly recommended!
Amazing, you have to have a coffee flight. I added a photo but was so excited to try the drinks that I didn't take the picture before diving in 🙄Espresso, cortado, pour over and iced coffee in one go. I highly recommend it (keep your defibrillator nearby) ... And now the second time around it's still going good. (And a proper pic for you this time!)
One of the best coffees in SF! Went there during a long weekend, the store was super busy. However, the staff are efficient and we got our coffee in 2mins. Tried their cappuccino and Pour over. Pour-over is a bit expensive and has long wait but it’s totally worth it. You can feel the smoothness and all hints of flavors, if you are a coffee lover, you should try their pour-over. The cappuccino had well balanced flavor and had a buttery finish. Totally loved it! It’s definitely worth trying their coffee, if you are in the city.
Unlike most coffee shops where interactions feel transactional or even forced, folks here are genuinely friendly and attentive. Even in a short conversation, there is warmth in their tones that makes me feel they care about me as a person, not just a customer. I guess I don't need to emphasize that their coffee is excellent, which everybody already knows. In fact, some of my other favorite coffee shops in the city also use their beans. I always get a ham and cheese croissant (from Wolves and Craftsman) to accompany my wonderful flat white. The shop is modern, spacious and well lit, I always enjoy getting a cup of coffee here.
Despite an unfriendly manager who was rude to me. The server and waitress were friendly and helpful. Desert was made to order, fresh and very yummy. Coffee was heavenly. The atmosphere was busy They have limited hours.
Went at 11am on a Saturday and the brunch food was actually great, the short rib hash, flatbread and waffles were a hit! Service was pretty slow but overall a nice place, felt like I was at Oktoberfest in there
I recently visited Leopold’s, and it offered a lively and satisfying introduction to Austrian and Central European cuisine in San Francisco. Located along Polk Street, the restaurant captures the spirit of a traditional Viennese beer hall while still maintaining the character of a neighborhood gathering place. The interior features warm wood tones and communal seating that create an energetic and social atmosphere, making it an enjoyable place for both casual dinners and group gatherings. The menu highlights classic Austrian and Central European dishes that emphasize hearty ingredients and traditional preparation techniques. One of the standout items was the Wiener schnitzel, which is a signature dish of Austrian cuisine. The schnitzel was well executed, with a crisp, golden exterior and tender meat inside. The balance between the light breading and the flavor of the meat reflected strong technique and attention to detail. Another highlight of the meal was the selection of sausages and traditional accompaniments. Austrian and German cuisines often rely on rich meats paired with sides such as sauerkraut, potatoes, and dumplings. These components worked together to create plates that were both satisfying and balanced, offering the comforting flavors typical of Central European cooking. The restaurant also places strong emphasis on its beverage program. Austrian and German beers are a natural pairing with these dishes, and the selection offered a range of traditional styles that complemented the food well. The beer offerings contribute to the restaurant’s lively atmosphere and reinforce its beer hall identity. Service during the visit was friendly and energetic, matching the lively character of the dining room. Staff members maintained a welcoming presence and were helpful in explaining menu items and beverage options. Despite the busy environment, the service felt well organized and attentive. The overall atmosphere is one of Leopold’s greatest strengths. The restaurant successfully recreates the communal spirit of Central European beer halls while fitting naturally into San Francisco’s diverse dining culture. It feels like a place designed for sharing food, enjoying drinks, and spending time with friends. Overall, Leopold’s delivers a flavorful and authentic Central European dining experience with well-prepared traditional dishes, a strong beer program, and a lively social environment.
I luckily walked in at a time where there was no wait and empty tables, so yay for me. Ordered a pour over and an iced white, and both were lovely. My iced coffee was particularly satisfying, and they made it with non-dairy milk which was a win for me. The almond croissant was great, tasty filling and nice crispy edges. Highly recommend!
May 2025 Specialty craft coffee chain with a minamalist style layout. Have tried their coffee in various other cities in CA and parts of SFO. Coffee and brewing is very consistent. Most beans are of Southern American single origin. We often purchase beans here for personal consumption. Layout is sparse and often for single or double diners. Expect lots of remote workers on this branch and few indoor seats available. A toilet is available.
Hands down my favorite cafe in SF. The high ceiling creates an airy and calm atmosphere, perfect for some weekend work or writing. It can get a bit noisy so beware for making calls from here. They also don’t have Wi-Fi on weekends which is a con. But the pastries are great and most importantly, the coffee is top quality.
place had really good vibes, a nice spot to grab a drink and just chill on a sunday morning. however, i didn’t like the macadamia nut milk at all. it made my flat white taste bitter and want to try it with whole milk next time to give a proper review of the cafe. pastries are from craftsman & wolves. the chocolate croissant was tasty but lacked that slight crunchy croissant texture i enjoy update 2/24/23: flat white with whole milk was delicious
I went since there was hype, but I was just disappointed. I feel like if I ordered something different my review would be more positive but I am going based off what I ordered. I was recommended the Orange Cream Latte and it was very orange tasting. It was too much orange. So much orange that it stained my mouth with orange taste and flavor for more then 24hrs. It was disgusting because of this.
We searched for the best coffee in Google in the area and this one popped up, so we decided to try. Looked very stylish. The design of waiting in line and ordering was not clear and when we walked in to order the barista that took our orders were gossiping about our group to another customer. The girls on making the actual coffee were quite frankly a lot nicer than the bloke. The design of the girls made was very cute. However, the coffee was disappointing and tasted like dirt but I think that may be because as a Aussie we have great roasters in Australia. But I thought America being close to South America they would have all the good brands like compost coffee. I wouldn’t come back, unfortunately I would prefer to have better customer service than a nice coffee sometimes.
The barista wasn't really nice. We changed the order before paying the coffee and he was very upset that we changed the order. We actually added more coffee though, so I am thinking it should have been better for them? 😅 I apologized multiple times but I wouldn't go here anymore.
