Opinions de Ho Kee Cafe San Gabriel
The waiter is very lovely, and the food is awesome. My friend, who is from Guangzhou, really like the noodle there, and he said it is pretty authentic. The shrimp is also pretty good. I would love to come there again for another food.
Always hard to find great wontonmein outside of Hong Kong, but this place is pretty darn good for California and has great BBQ duck and pork as well! The chow mein and mabo tofu were also well above average and fell within classic HK quality standards. Every bite made my family happy.
We came with four people. This place offer a variety of Cantonese dishes. Their duck was very good. Their stir fired noodles has a great amount wok 气. Very reasonably priced. And great portions
The roasted duck is delicious and very juicy. Loved this place. Service is excellent. Every dish we ordered was delicious. All dishes we ordered came out of the kitchen so fast. It’s just like eating in Hongkong. We had pork bbq, duck, mixed veggies, wonton soup, and beef chow fun. Place is very full during dinner time on Friday-Sunday. Got to the cafe at 6:30pm on Friday and the place looks deserted. 30 minutes later the restaurant got full and a line started to pile outside. Trip is to get there early before 7pm.
Food is super authentic! The noodle was not soggy at all. Service was pretty good too. They gave us free oranges after the meal. Will definitely come back!
Me like, delicious foods especially the wonton soup. They don’t hold back on anything but the price is kinda pricey expect around $15 up but it worthwhile if you’re a fan of real Chinese foods.

Can’t speak for the whole menu, but this place hands down has the best roast duck in the area. Yes, it’s even better than the roast duck at Sam Woo on Valley and 6th…and this is coming from someone who has had duck from Sam Woo for over 30 years. Juicier, tender, consistent quality. Don’t be fooled by the outside appearance. Give it a try.
Dont let this Mom and Pop restaurant fool you. Their food quality beat the brand name bigger restaurant around here. Trust me their bbq duck and bbq pork taste way fresh and less fatty comparing samwoo.
Yummy food and great service. Love the duck dish and their mopo tofu was just perfect not too spicy.

Not bad but maybe I need to order something different more to my liking. Came here with friends and one of them paid so I can’t comment on price. Parking is a tiny lot but thankfully we found parking. There are plenty of seats inside and it’s pretty clean. I liked the pictures they put up and they have the typical cooked duck hanging in a window. I tried their hong kong milk tea and coffee mixture and it tasted good but if you are lactose, stay away! It later on destroyed me. Henry’s cuisine HK Milk Tea Coffee combo is a lot better (tastes better and doesn’t hurt your stomach)! I stayed away from the wontons cause I heard they had shrimp. I thought i would be safe with dumplings but prob my fault for rush ordering and the dumplings ended up having fat shrimp inside of it! I just ate the veggies and egg noodles (those were good). I also had a bite of my friend’s meat and rice dish and it was pretty good (I have a pic of it). I would come back but will definitely be careful what I order (shrimp is so bleck).
I've always see lines out the door for this small Cafe and decided to check it out. The seating area is quite small do you'll end up waiting for awhile. Food: 1. Our group ordered the house special fish porridge. At first thought, I imagined it to have big chunks of fish meat in it but in reality, they're very small chunks of tilapia meat. What I didn't think was that they'd include peanuts in it as well. There was also a whole lots of ginger slices, which I'm not a fan of. Be careful though because you may come across bones and scales in the porridge. 2. Wonton and dumpling noodle soup. The noodles were hard and didn't seem fresh to taste. The wonton and dumplings were great and was flavorful. 3. Char Siu Pork and duck noodle soup. The pork was ordinary like any other Chinese restaurant that serves it. I particularly thought the duck was moist but I'm sure it would've been even better when it wasn't soaked in the soup. 4. Crispy Beef Brisket. It was truly crispy and I've never thought of a dish like this. However, the meat isn't as tender as you'd hope but still good. It also comes with a sweet sauce and that's what makes it a good dish. Eating it without the sauce, it's bland and doesn't taste like anything. 5. Chinese donut. This was crispy and has a little salt in it. A bit oily in my opinion but at least they fry it right then and there and doesn't seem like they microwave it. 6. Hong Kong Milk Tea..as good as it tastes in Hong Kong. Service: Better than most Chinese restaurants but there was one lady who tells at other workers and it scares the hell out of me. I'm sure that's just her personality but still, the restaurant is small so everyone hears it.
It was our first time there. We were going to try the duck. The duck was ok. However, the fish and also the stir fry vegetable dish were delicious. We consumed it picnic style in nearby Smith’s park. Ho Kee Coffee is easily one of the better Chinese restaurants we have been to lately. Customers come from all walks of life. We saw a Porsche SUV and Lexus SUV parked outside. This restaurant has plenty of free parking. The restaurant is across the public library of the City of San Gabriel. Covid19 Measures are in place. Indoor dining is allowed as of November 2021. The store front features some nice wooden benches We also went for beverages. The milk tea and a dessert fungi beverage been very flavorful. However, it was a little bit to shock sugar in it for my taste. That’s just me so.
Tasty canto food! Takes phone call orders, takes credit card. Pay and pick up with your phone number. - Salt and pepper chicken wing - Combination braised meat rice - Beef Chow Fun (not dry style/not gravy)
We came on Saturday night, had to wait 20 minutes to get a table. Heard another customer who booked, but still had to write their name down on the clipboard. Since it was our first time there, we asked the server what were their specialties, and was told seafood. Funnily, we did not see any tables ordering seafood. So we stick to the items reviewed most and ordered a few dishes: roast duck and bbq pork, wonton soup, shrimp with walnuts, some fried noodles and vegetables. The wontons were delicious, large pieces; the bbq pork was sweet and tender, the duck was okay.. better with the sauce provided, and only some skin was crispy. Surprisingly the highlight for the little one was the shrimps, they were coated with mayo or some sort of creamy sauce. Overall, food came out quick and was pretty tasty. But it was so crowded and noisy inside the restaurant, that we weren't able to have proper conversations.

This place has the best HK style roast duck around. I've had roast duck in many of the Chinese restaurants in sgv area or anywhere in LA and OC, and nothing is as good as this place. Their ducks are not overly fatty on the skin, and the meats are very juicy and moist. It is slightly more expensive than if you were to buy the same at 99 ranch food court or something, but the quality is worth the extra few bucks more. Their wonton noodles are great too, filled with big whole shrimps. They also have razor clams here but it's seasonal. This is a rarity in LA as most restaurants don't have this type of clam, which is common in HK and southeast Asia. It's cooked in a true HK style way by steaming with garlic and onions, and vermicelli to soak up all the fresh, sweet juices from the clams. The chat siu is okay, it used to be a lot better but this time around it was on the dry side.
Place is a bit small, and there is not a lot of parking space available. So far I have tried their porridge, wonton noodle, Ma-po tofu, flat noodle with beef, soy sauce chicken and their duck, they all taste pretty good. But one bad thing is that the restaurant is very loud, so make sure they got your order correct. Two out of three times we went here, our order was messed up.

We had the king crabs fried rice, the wonton noodle soup Hong Kong style, and shrimps pan fried white noodle. The food was ok, would I go back…no. With all the rave reviews it received it did not live up to my expectations. The crabs fried rice was okay. All the food was pretty bland and lack quality. The authenticity is there just don’t expect it to be a “oh wow” moment. If you do visit the restaurant I hope you have a better experience than I did. Enjoy
The roast duck was extremely disappointing. It didn’t taste fresh at all, and the meat had almost no flavor—it felt like it hadn’t been properly marinated. The five-spice seasoning was barely noticeable, so the duck tasted bland and flat instead of rich and aromatic. The overall texture and taste were just bad. Honestly, it was one of the worst roast duck dishes I’ve had. I would not recommend it.
We bad attitude. We ordered a peiking duck they gave us the roasted duck and charged us the regular peiking duck price. We went to the restaurant and ask for refund. The lady mentioned the one we received is the peiking duck but officially is not. Plus they are not willing to do a refund for us. The roasted duck is long around $30 weeks are over charged. I have attached the photo of it do you guys think this is the peiking duck.
We ordered the shrimp chow fun with egg and the shrimp was too salty, fishy tasting and had a sour aftertaste at the end. It seemed as though the shrimp was not fresh and on the verge of spoiling. The noodles had no wok hei despite being chow fun. After telling the staff about it, instead of preparing something else, they only gave a 5 dollar discount. The wonton noodles are nothing to write home about but the fried seafood noodles were okay. Afterwards the staff did give a plate of fruits and fortune cookies but it was still a disappointing dinner as the shrimp was rather unpleasant.
Disappointed. Found a hair when almost done eating, which is definitely ruined everything. The stir fry rice noodles is mediocre at best, and it supposed to be a very common Cantonese dish. The soy sauce combination tastes fine until I see the hair. BTW I like the soy beans idea (prevent food dipping in the sauce for too long and enhance the flavor at the same time) but with the price paid, it feels a little cheesy. I rarely rate a restaurant with only one try, but finding hair in food is definitely a stop sign. Parking and the interior decor might be the best/strongest suit about this place.
Quality has gone down so much - The roasted duck doesn't taste fresh and lack the aroma it should have. The veggie is not fresh either. One could tell the leaves and stems were wilted even before it was cooked. Worst of all, there was sand or something gritty in the rice. It was so disgusting I had to spit it out.
