We heard good things about California Fish Grill, so we decided to try it. They have mostly fish and some seafood and chicken dishes. We got the Dynamite Rockfish and Cajun Mahi Mahi. I loved the Dynamite Rockfish. It's fried and has their dynamite sauce on it. The Cajun Mahi Mahi was OK. It was our back up because they were out of Ahi Tuna. A salmon dish may have been a better choice for me personally. I did like their dynamite sauce on the Rockfish and fries. The sauce has a nice kick. I would definitely come back again and try new dishes!
Went to the soft opening today and was wowed ! The food is absolutely delicious. I’ve been to the San Bruno location but this experience surpassed my experience there. Miguel, I assume is the manager, checked in us to make sure we were complete satisfied. Beyond satisfied. I will be a regular customer. Miguel advises that we could order on line and skip the lines for pick up or even call in an order for pick up. San Jose is lucky to have this establishment. I would give 6 stars!
Incredible. Simple clean flavors, great price. Pictured is the swai with lemon garlic sauce, white rice, and zucchini. Added a shrimp skewer with Cajun seasoning. Also got a cup of clam chowder (not pictured), which was one of the best I’ve ever had. Fish was flaky and tender, sauce was yummy, rice was cooked to perfection, and seasonings were on point. Everything was so satisfying! I can’t wait to go back!
Loved the atmosphere and ordering system! They have big screens where you can order yourself or there was a cashier taking orders like normal. Most of the people in line were ordering from the cashier so we hopped to the kiosk and ordered through it very easy. I got the seared ahi tuna and loved it, my friend got the shrimp tacos and was surprised at the portions for the bargain price! Will definitely be back!!
This is my favorite place to order good fish. The fish here is perfectly grilled, tender and very flavorful, which is not something many other places can perfect. I have had the classic Beer Battered Fish and Chips, the Salmon and Swai combo as well as the Fire Roasted Street Corn (which I highly recommend)
Beautiful concept, simple yet elaborate menu It covers classics like fish and chips to poke bowl to fish platters The best part is the plant based menu They have 4 dishes in the vegan/ vegetarian menu and a healthy number of the sides are vegan or vegetarian Good selection of soft drinks and beer Everything is made fresh It’s a great fast casual concept for the whole family as well as groups Prices are reasonable for seafood
Pleasant surprise 😮 excellent sea food for a low price I'm not accustomed to. You pretty much serve yourself here using a keyosc to order. They have a wide variety of sea food here and flavors 😋. I highly recommend if you want more fresh and healthier options without spending too much.
This is my go-to place after the gym when I don’t feel like cooking. The food is always fresh and healthy, and the service is quick and efficient. I highly recommend it!
The manager is just killing it. He was so helpful today with our order. Employees are consistently customer service oriented. Food is great. Love the salmon salad. Fresh, flavorful and reasonably priced. Update to my review. My husband and I both got food poisoning today from salmon.
Food here is excellent and great value. The manager brought us the food with a smile.
Fish Grill is such a consistent good value for a chain seafood restaurant. Been to multiple locations and everytime they are great. Sometimes they'll have offers in their app as well so good to check. Overall I would recommend them for a quick fast casual seafood spot that isn't that expensive for the food they offer.
If you're looking for a meal that feels "clean" without sacrificing flavor, California Fish Grill continues to be the gold standard for fast-casual seafood.
Great price for good food. They have some side that have an additional charge so it can add up if you upgrade sides. Order and pay on a kiosk. I really enjoyed my shrimp skewers and my 2 sides. Tomato feta and zucchini. Best part, I don’t feel so full or guilty eating here with the sides I chose. Service is fast. Seat yourself and they call your name when your order is ready.
Love the quality and taste of food here. Healthy and yummy, what more can we ask for? Our favorites so far are the grilled tilapia, fire roasted corn, beans, shrimp tacos and fries. The dynamite sauce goes well with everything. The service is good. You have ipads to order. And they take your plates after you are done. The ambience is a little better than fast casual. Overall a good spot for a quick healthy and tasty meal.
Good, fresh-tasting and well-prepared fish and sides. Both the grilled and fried fish were great. The catfish, corn side and slaw were particularly good. Their self service soda station has mostly gourmet sodas. There's a fairly large condiment bar with homemade ketchup, salsa and tarter sauce and a lot more. The prices are low for the quality of food. The cashier service was helpful and polite. The food took awhile to be prepared, but the place was pretty busy while I was there. It has a clean, pleasant, modern interior with outdoor seating in front. They also sell beer and wine. Most meals come with a choice of 2 side dishes. Note that there are house sides and premium sides, which can be selected for a added charge. The roasted street corn is premium, though worth the extra charge.
Fast casual seafood focused restaurant located in a strip mall. Parking is usually not a problem. Food tastes good, the portions are large and the prices are very reasonable. Services was friendly and efficient. They claimed most grilled items could be made gluten free and that they have a separate fryer for battered products.
The CA Fish Grill just officially opened today with regular hours of operation (so I don’t know why that Michael McCleskey guy gave them a 1-star review for being closed 3 days ago. LOL). I, however, was lucky enough to attend their soft opening preview event, and let me tell you, I am addicted!! My whole family went, and we each ordered something different to try. My favorite was the battered fish and chips. Three large crispy pieces with moist and flaky swai inside, it’s one of the best I’ve ever had! The ahi poke bowl had a great portion of fresh tuna, with a little kick of spice, and was really delicious! We also had the coconut curry shrimp, the ahi tuna steak, the barramundi sea bass, the giant shrimp plate, battered shrimp tacos, and the Atlantic salmon. Everything was cooked to perfection! The best sides were the brussel sprouts and fire-roasted corn (totally worth the upgrade). And their fancy array of different juices and soda flavors were also fun to try! The portions here are generous and the prices are super affordable. This is the first time we’ve eaten here, but we’re definitely becoming regulars for sure. :)

This establishment serves up some very good seafood fare. We enjoyed a meal of grilled rockfish, Brussels sprouts, and salad. It was a very tasty meal served to us in the nice but simple atmosphere of the dining room. If you go, I am sure you will enjoy your meal as well.
California Fish Grill is value for money. Their salads and everything is priced under $17. The salads are awesome and you can get them for $11, and add a Salmon on it if you like. The managers and staff have courtesy towards their customers and are helpful. The only feedback I have for CA Fish Grill is about the box which they give for the take away French fries. The box comes with a top/lid which has a hole to fit the ranch, but the the trick is "that ranch hole" kills almost 50% space in the box and only makes you get 50% French fries! I have also tried other places like Aqui and BJs in the Blossom Hill , which almost charge $27-30 for the Salmon salad. What a waste of money at BJs and Aqui! There is no value for money at these places. I ordered a "Atlantic Salmon" salad take away at BJs and it was $27.99 including taxes. I was totally disappointed. Most of the restaurants like BJs and also Aqui , give you 95% salad and throw a small 6 ounce piece of Salmon on it to charge you $27.99 . I recommend CA Fish Grill over other places. You will find value for money at CA Fish Grill

California Fish Grill is our favorite place to get fish dish especially fish & chips. The batter simply melts in your mouth while the fish inside is moist and soft. Their swai (white fish) is another favorite of ours. We tried their new sauce “Honey Hot Sauce” and it is now our favorite sauce, which used to be the cajun sauce. Even though inflation has been sky high, the dishes are still $10.5 only. Hope this would still last. They have online ordering which is very convenient to use. Outdoor seatings are available at the front as well as on the side.
Food: As good as fast(ish) seafood can get! Great pricing and a super wide variety of fresh fish. I actually love eating here! They don't precook, so the fish is fresh, hot and cooked perfectly! (9/10). If you find this review helpful, please hit the like 👍 ‼️Pricing: as of Sept 2023 it's a no cash place, credit card, debit and tap only. Interesting....prices aren't bad at all. About $20 for one person. Vegetarian/Vegan: I like that they have vegan shrimp 🍤 and options so everyone is welcome! They could use a bit more sauce variation in those dishes though. Something other than hot/spicy, for sensitive tummies (7.5/10). Parking: it's a strip mall kinda lot and it can get busy. You can find parking usually pretty easy if it's not busy, if it is, just park next door at the bass pro show.
Good food. Not a fine dining experience. Cost effective. Value for money overall.
This is like a fast food restaurant, you order from the machine at the front counter and then wait for your number to be called. But the food was delicious, especially the fish and chips , which was crispy and juicy. Shrimp skiwear also good too !
Over experience was not bad. I ordered Classic three pieces fish and Chips. Taste was good but batter on fish is too thick on certain places which didn't cooked all the way and cause too much oil soked which make you very heavy. Other items were shrimp tacos, fish tacos and Shrimp kale salad. Spice was bland, most of the sauces are mild. Tartar sauce was good. Strawberry mint juice was very refreshing. Fish in tacos were little too big for the size. It need to be little smaller so one can eat easily. Overall portion size and price are very good. Kids like the fried calamari. Chimichuri fries were the best.
Great spot for seafood. The food feels fresh and full of flavor. Lots of healthy choices—loved the grilled branzino. Portions are generous too.
We enjoyed our lunch here. It’s not the best fish I’ve had, but it was cooked well and nicely seasoned; definitely a good option if you’re craving seafood. The salad and potatoes were fresh, and the dining area was clean, though it did get a bit busy and noisy.
Love the food here and it’s a great deal for seafood! The tacos are great and they come with beans, rice and drink if you get the combo. For the drink, you can get a bottle or the fountain. And the grilled fish plates are also fantastic. A wide variety of kinds, plus sides. And for $3.75 along with the dish plate we got a couple of coconut prawns. Friendly service and a clean restaurant. February 2023 update: Shrimp tacos still rock! This time with corn and sweet potato fries as sides. March 2023 update: Cajun tacos still good as ever! Also had a combo of Swai fish and grilled shrimp plate which was awesome. Beans could use salt but still good. April 2023 update: I had grilled fish this time. Specifically, the rockfish. Highly recommended, with the garlic butter sauce. Goes great with rice and zucchini sides. by far the best fresh value I have found anywhere for seafood. And so good! Downgraded a star because of their new setup. They no longer have a person taking your order at the counter. Now they have touch screen kiosks. Not a bad thing, but there were a lot of older clientele in the building up line, and their workers were just watching them. And the person who stages the trays also just stands there. If you help people order, then you'd have more trays to stage! Shouldn't they help people?
Crispy fish tacos, I mean crispy were good, just wish there was more fish to crust ratio. Elote corn was a big disappointment (especially for a $2.50 upcharge), lacked lime and seasoning. 1st time here, you have to ask staff for all for salsa's.

Food was excellent, but service was slow, waited over 30 minutes for our food to arrive. Their focus is on take out orders through on line Apps. Our salad should have been served first, the shrimp skewer too. It was frustrating waiting so long and watching GIG workers come and go. I personally believe your Dine in Guest should come first.

I went today with my friend for lunch. The self-service machine was not working, so a very unhappy and unfriendly lady helped us. She was very rude and mean, and she forgot to add part of our order, then blamed us for it. When it was time to pay, she was watching to see what tip we would leave, and since we put 0, she became even more unhappy. The people after us were treated the same way. The food was good — 5 stars for the kitchen.
Been here 3 times and everytime the food is good. I wish that the side dishes could be hot. The sides of rice and veggies is only luke warm. The fried fish needed to be fried about 1 to 2 mins more for my liking. It was cold in the restaurant. With room for a good size crowd... while we were there only 3 tables had customers and 2 tables put jackets on or had them upon arrival. The credit card only idea is just not my thing. I always pay cash so to be thrown for a loop... I did not care for that. NO ONE ASKED if I needed help. Maybe just something I need to get ready for ... I also feel that the servers should give more napkins, spoons (for rice etc) and all needed condiments... soy sauce, hot sauce, malt vinegar, salt/ pepper, and water cups... Ask atleast. Got some push back from the male and female worker that stood at the counter everytime I asked for different things. It was quite awkward. I felt like I was bothering them. Pepsi on the order menu kept saying "can" I didn't know u had Pepsi in fountain drink. I did not order Pepsi in a can for 2 plus dollars. Female bathroom was low on toilet paper. For all the worker that were standing around, that could have used some attention. Prices and plate size is good and I really like this restaurant. I'd like to up my review next time I come, so my advice is please pay attention to details, it really does matter. A little nicer customer service could help too. There was 1 "nice" guy outside. On our way out, he stopped what he was doing, asked if we liked the food and told us to come back and we will just for him and his hospitality.

I've been to the one before in West San Jose and really liked that experience. Maybe my order ordering was off but the salmon was dry and chewy. The fries were stale. The beans and bread were ok. Service was very slow. The restaurant was clean though and the workers were friendly.

First time here. Lady upfront who took our order barely had any energy and didnt really bother explaining the menu but thats ok. I ordered the branzino and i was completely dissapointed. First the lemon butter sauce had a decent flavor but if you look on my photo below, sauce broke. The most dissapointing for me was the skin of the fish. I was expecting a crispy skin but what i got was a very rubbery skin. Fish such as this should be cooked atleast 70% skin side down to get that crispy skin but maybe thats an option? The let down was the brussels sprouts. It was very bitter and not properly cleaned see pic below. I wish they use honey to give it the sweetness it needs maybe even lemon to give it some acid specially when served with fish. Dinner was not worth $50 dollars.
Years ago this place was good. Now..not so much. The food is pretty good. The service and atmosphere is a joke. They used to have a salsa bar. It appears they closed ur during the pandemic. I guess no one has told them the pandemic is over. Or they are just too lazy to deal with it. The ladies behind the counter are useless. They are way too busy playing on their phones to help anyone. I will never be back.

Worst customer service ever. Fish came out cold, gave them to reheat… after waiting another 20 mins while my family was done eating, came up to counter to ask where my food was. They had no idea. They had to remake my order?!?
While I was there, the only person working the front counter was Paloma. There was a nice older lady on the ordering kiosk in front of us, and another couple on the second kiosk. When the couple moved on, my fiance and I took their spot, while the older lady seemed to start struggling with the kiosk. Your menu displays are so shoddy, the top of the menu was cut off and she couldn't figure out where the 'cart' button was on the tip of the screen. While we started our order, the older lady tried to wave at Paloma to get some help. Paloma, instead of acknowledging the customer, turned her back so that she couldn't see anything and continued prepping trays and to-go plates. Finally, when Paloma had to go further away to grab an item, the older lady had to lean across the entire counter and wave her hand to get Paloma's attention, almost yelling 'Can i get some help?'. What was the acknowledgment? Paloma grunts a semi-audible 'uh-huh' and goes back to bagging orders. In walks an off-the-clock coworker who walks up behind Paloma and yells to her, and they start laughing and talking while this older lady just waits. So I decided to get her attention and point out that the older lady is waiting. Paloma decided to continue filling bags with empty to-go boxes, as I guess that is the priority? So my fiance starts to help the older lady, and that prompts Paloma to come around the counter and actually begin to help. There was another instance afterwards, with the older lady not getting her food until the three orders after her were already eating, that the older lady went to ask why it was taking so long, and every person in the kitchen ignored her until just yelling "Coming" as they went to the back to bring Paloma to the counter, the cooks standing at the windows and just staring at this lady. I assume she is the only one allowed to help customers? Meanwhile there are three cooks holding the kitchen doors open that lead to the dining area, leaned against them with one of the servers and the off-work coworker from earlier all laughing and hanging out. There is no reason to be rude, let alone to someone who is more vulnerable than the average customer. I hope that when these people are old, as we will all be some day, they spend their days feeling lost, helpless and alone. This type of culture and behavior is top-down. This is not one person at a store being rude, this is an accepted behavior practiced by everyone in this store. The Cajun salmon sandwich was bland and nowhere near spicy, but my fiance enjoyed her tacos.
Today I ordered the Ahi Poke, and there was mold on the tortilla chips. I found out only after already eating a bunch of them.

Really a poor service tonight, January 31, 2026 My online order was already ready to pick up about 10 minutes ago , and I told them my name a couple of times , but I was standing up and could see my order on the counter, , but they pretend that it's not ready yet. 👎🏽 The previous team was excellent, but this new team is really annoying
