Opinions de South Winchester BBQ San Jose
South Winchester BBQ is a great place for BBQ. They have a friendly staff and they go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant experience. They are usually busy and there’s often a line to order but they have ample seating with the outdoor area. There is a good selection of adult beverages and fountain drinks from a local place. 9.5/10 would recommend
The flavors were consistent across dishes. Nothing felt out of place.
Unquestionably the best BBQ I’ve ever had. We came in after a tour of the Mystery House on my birthday and had a large group of 14 people. Personally, I was reluctant to bring a group that size anywhere to eat besides somewhere like pizza because it’s easier to feed a group that size and I didn’t want to slam a restaurant like that. However, they didn’t shy away from us at all. In fact they were more than accommodating and got all of our food out remarkably fast. I got the 2 meat bbq meal with the brisket and the brisket burnt ends, cornbread, beans, and mac n cheese. All of it was phenomenal but the brisket burn ends were on another level. Thanks again South Winchester BBQ!
One of the best and most consistent BBQ places I have tried in the bay area. It may not be the level of the best in Texas, Kansas City, etc, but you are going to get a good meal at a fair price with a great selection of beer, both draft and canned. Highly recommend!
Are you looking for fast service and a family-friendly BBQ spot? South Winchester is IT!! They have plenty of space outdoors and indoors and there food is amazing. Their sauces taste great and you can really enjoy the smoky flavor on all their meets. Be prepared to spend money. They are by no means cheap which makes sense due to the amount of prep for the meats. Most standard sandwiches are $15+. Staff is extremely friendly and very kid friendly. They offered us free ice cream for our kiddos and we had a blast! Def recommend. Also they have the best breakfast tacos. Ever.
Super friendly staff with quick service. The food was really good.
Having moved from Texas recently my husband and I have been dying for some good barbecue. But we’ve been skeptical it’s been eight months and we haven’t found anything we liked. Passed by here today and decided to try it. Didn’t want to press our luck so we got kids meals with brisket and Mac and cheese. We were both pleasantly surprised. Brisket had a great Smokey taste, macaroni was really good, and it came with a large piece of garlic bread. All for around $10. The kids meal size was pretty satisfying I might add as well. We will definitely be back for some larger portions but we’re happy to have finally found some good barbecue around here.
This was our first time eating here. We got our order to go. The place was packed and there were plenty of people picking up orders to go. But they moved everyone along and were clearly hustling. I had to wait about 10 minutes. But holy smokes, was it worth it!! The meats were absolutely delicious and smoked to perfection! The Mac cheese was very good! Can't early to visit again!;
At the South Winchester BBQ...That's where I met up with these two bird brains, the older one was Teawiggler Winklestick, but likes to be called T-Man and his little brother was named Tweasel, and he tells me he goes by the name of the Midnight Rider! That's right, the Midnight Rider, it was hard not to laugh. These two put together weigh in at about 200 pounds and look like they just escaped a West Virginia inbreeding compound. The S. Winchester BBQ was the halfway point between Napa and their place out amongst the cotton fields..10 miles away, but they were on foot and I drove, so the halfway point the way they figured it takes 3 hours to walk there vs. my 3 hour drive. T-Man wanted to buy a Lackfaultered Dromintine I had on Craig's list and said he'd even pay for my fuel to bring it down to San Jose, so here I am. Well he bought the damn thing and with the help of 4 Home Depot day laborers we were able to take it off the truck and put it the parking lot next to the Winchester BBQ. I was happy as could be because I ate some Amazing ribs before the Bird Brains showed up...and left 1 minute before they realized they've got no way to get that 800 pound monster back to their place. South Winchester BBQ ☆☆☆☆☆
On top of the food being really good, they’re so kind & careful when I mentioned an allergy. Which is huge to get to feel safe about what you’re eating when you have a severe allergy. Totally recommend! Only note is go before it’s late, they bbq in batches and so it can be tiny bit dry if you wait until close to closing, which is to be expected of any bbq spot really.
I hate coming here. I am always stuck having to decide between a tri-tip or brisket sandwich but end up ordering like half the menu anyway and if I come with friends or family we order 1 of everything. The bbq is really just that good you cant really go wrong with anything here. The only 2 things I dont recommend is the chicken and beans. The chicken isnt bad its just that everything else is better and the beans are always kinda dry. Regardless this place is great and I will always return.
Smoked turkey was amazingly moist & flavorful! Honestly some of the best turkey I’ve had on either coast.
Delicious BBQ! Excellent pulled pork, chicken, sides. Great service and nice ambiance.
This place is absolute fire I went there today for my first time, I ordered the Tri Tip meal with 2 sides, corn bread and a drink. My sides were Mac and Cheese and Cole Slaw, the plate came with these pickles and jalapeños and onions combined with the Tri tip was an amazing combination of flavors. The Mac and Cheese was amazing next time I’m gonna order a large side of Mac and Cheese, and the corn bread was perfectly cooked easily one of the best corn breads I’ve ever had. The meat was cooked perfectly. I’m probably going to order a large Tri Tip sandwich next time. All in all A+ make sure to put this on your list when you are craving some BBQ!
Some of the best brisket this side of Texas. Great selection of craft beers on a rotating tap (shout out to the “Lebrons Tears” IPA available after the warriors most recent championship), great staff, spacious outdoor seating, definitely a must visit for those Texas transplants looking for a small reminder of “home cooking”
This is Trail Dust in San Jose. Same selection same quality.
So far one of my favorite traditional bbq in the Bay Area. Food was great you have to try the brisket! Remember ask them about special menu for the season. Also welcome pets since they have outdoor seating! The staff was amazing as well. I will be back.
This is a great place to come for no frills meat. I had the trip-tip, which was amazing. The meat itself isn't flavored beyond what the slow cooker (located out back) does to it. BBQ sauses and beans were both okay but not center stage. Menu does not have a lot of options, but I'd imagine everything is good. They also have a great selection of beer, including some local breweries.
Disclaimer: This review is only based on 2 beers and a quarter pound of the brisket to-go. After a hearty dinner, my friend and I decided we wanted something to quench our thirst. This place was relatively close and he chose well as there were enough spaces at the bar for us to enjoy a beer while watching NBA playoffs on TV. My friend’s into beers so I let him decide. We had a Mega Sunshine (an imperial double IPA). Oh yeah, it was hazy and hoppy. Maybe even a bit too hoppy for me. :P Then he decided to go for a can of beer Dibs on Next Wave from Humble Sea Brewing Company. Pretty flavorful. My friend said their brisket is the bomb so I decided to just get a quarter pound to go. I totally regretted that decision. I should have ordered at least half a pound. The briskets were so juicy and flavorful even the next day. My wife who’s a big meat eater gave her stamp of approval as well. I assume they make their own bbq sauce. Even the sauce was mesmerizing. I said I would get a full pound next time and my wife agreed. Can’t wait to go back~
Besides making the entire block smell delightful, this place is bomb with the meats….and their cobbler. Omg…the berry cobbler is hella good, you gotta be careful on eating too much meat, so u can save room for some cobbler. Also…cool sodas and fresh brewskis. Nice local owners and friendly folks working here.
This place is delicious!😋 It's smokey, tender, & juicy. I never have steak more than med rare, but a friend recommended the Santa Fe Tri-Tip salad. One thing description says it comes medium to med-well bcuz smoked 1st then grilled b4 salad. I was v. reticent but said what the hell he's paying. Guys it was literally one of the best tasting steaks I ever had. The seasoning are perfect. Tried a bit of the 🐔 juicy excellent. Nu fave place for Our!
Been coming here for a while. I've had a lot of BBQ and this is my favorite. Ribs, tri tip, brisket all rock. Green salad, beans and potato salad are super. Beer selection I think is the best of anywhere I go to eat - always changing - interesting- haven't had a bad beer there yet. These guys know bbq and beer.
I absolutely love the barbecue here. All of the meats have a rich smoky flavor. We got the brisket, tri tip, pork ribs, and hot links. The brisket is extremely tender and juicy, as it should be. Tri tip was pulled and basically melts in your mouth. There are bits of the tri tip that are crunchy, which are also delicious. The tri tip probably had the smokiest flavor. The pork ribs are pretty sweet and go well with the hot BBQ sauce. There isn't a ton of meat on the ribs, and the meat still clings to the bone a bit. The hot links are well seasoned and a bit spicier than I expected. Overall everything was great from the meat to all of the free Andes mints.
Ok, so my husband loves this place. Like he LOVES Winchester BBQ. Like if he wasn't married to me, I'm not sure he wouldn't take the brisket on a date, move in, drink the beer, then propose. In an alternate universe, this has already taken place. Vows were exchanged between the brisket and my husband (from another universe). Happy endings all round. Beer imbibed nightly. In my universe, the chicken is a little dry and lavks salt.
We walked in with our Son and Daughter-in-Law all of us on our first visit. A warm welcome on a Wednesday Evening just as the venue was getting busier. Tempted by the menu online we were not disappointed. There’s a good selection of beers on tap and if none of them take your fancy there’s more in the fridge. For those looking for soft drinks there’s a good selection as well. We chose a mix of ribs, turkey, sausage, slaw and Mac-n-cheese to share. We were not disappointed and with the portion sizes we just about managed to get through. Single serving of the fruit cobbler between the four of us. Give this place a try … it’s well worth seeking out
Their pulled pork is really good. Their garlic bread is very tasty. Staff are so kind and helpful. Resturant is clean. Can’t complain. The taste of the pulled pork is still on my mind. Thank you.
Excellent bbq spot near Santana row on Winchester blvd It was quite busy around 5 pm on Friday Service was efficient and attentive Lots of staff , clean dining area , well stocked and quick delivery of food Food is of very good quality I had the chicken and my friend had the brisket The large meal was enough for my post workout craving Lots of beers on tap and in the fridge , only craft beers , dozens of varieties I had their top selling lager and it was pretty decent Great place for meat cravings
Came in a bit early seeing they open early. Didn't know they only had breakfast till 11 but that's fine since their breakfast tacos are fantastic. The breakfast sandwich was mid but their tritip breakfast tacos are great. Worth a try at pretty normal prices too. Tried lunch as well and it's alright, sides are a bit weak but.
I decided to commute my way to another BBQ place down at San Jose. There is one different place like this at Santana Row, but already went there last week. So I don’t wanna come back there too soon haha There is a billboard menu outside you can take a look before entering this restaurant. The place is quite small which is just how I imagine when I researched it. However, doesn’t really matter as long as the food is good here. I ordered one of the BBQ meals here and the portions are just right probably because I want the regular size rather than large. Not too big to the point that no one can finish it or be full. Tri tip is very juicy and tender. Also like the Mac and Cheese. Never tried potato salad and tastes good despite already having some at home. Kinda disappointed that they don’t serve fries, but that’s fine with me. I also like the outdoor dining area, but it’s too extremely hot outside since it’s Summer. Probably should dine outdoors next time since I think that most people eat BBQ outdoors. Not sure about the lifestyle at the south since I live at California throughout my life, but could imagine eating that type of food outside.
Came for lunch with a group on Fri. We were greeted by amicable staff, service was fairly quick. Ambiance is unique and you can smell the meat before you walk into the establishment. Restaurant was clean with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It was bustling and customers seemed content. The chicken BBQ sandwich was good, sauce was decent, nothing spectacular but overall good as well as the beans. Berry cobbler pie was delicious.
Delicious ! Their tri-tip is amazingly tender melt in your mouth. Staff is always friendly and hardly any wait time.\nMy husband and I go there probably too often! But it's so good

Food is delicious, the service is excellent, ambience is great, a place to go and relax. I'll come back again

Absolute best BBQ in the south bay! Look no further. Excellent food and great prices, and lovely ambiance as well. Everyone is extremely nice!
This is my new favorite BBQ spot in San Jose. The food is amazing with large portions and great flavors. The service is friendly but the speed is only average. The dining area is casual and clean.
Food was amazing excellent service. Didn't wait very long for the food. Great ambience the smell is amazing. Would definitely come again.

Service was quick but the tables and shared condiment area were a bit dirty. The food itself was good! I recommend the brisket and mac and cheese. The pork ribs were tasty, but they did not have much meat on them compared to other American bbq places I've been to. Overall still a very good bbq spot with plenty of options!
I have had better barbecue. The trip was very good and tender. However, the others were a little dried out. I tried the chicken, brisket, and the ribs. For side dishes, the cornbread was fairly good. The beans were a spicier than expected and the mac n' cheese was absolutely disgusting. The day after, the brisket actually was good cold. I've been here before with a fairly large party. That visit, we were attended to at the table, not as a walk up and order situation, as done this time. The atmosphere was okay, nothing great. The one negative that really bothered me is ordering. When you enter the place to order, if there are other patrons ordering, It's very confusing, trying to figure out the jumbled mess of people around the ordering station in the middle of the restaurant. There's no separation between the you would order food or beverages. This makes ordering a little frustrating when there are multiple people sampling the multiple different beverages. The number of people who are waiting to order backup quickly, creating the jumbled mess. This is because there is no natural flow to the restaurant. If they open the other ordering station by the door, this person will be taking orders from anybody who walks in the door, leaving everyone in the middle of the restaurant still waiting to order. Thankfully, we had a very pleasant gentleman who seemed to take charge and control of the situation with a very pleasant demeanor.
Knocked myself out with a pound of brisket and a pound of tri tip (a side of Mac and cheese and potato salad) ordered to go. They delivered. The spicy bbq sauce that comes with your order is amazing. The mac and cheese is average, potato salad is ok, the brisket is amazing and the tri tip is also average. It satisfied my craving. For some reason though, I feel like I missed something. Overall it was good 👍🏾
I was not disappointed by the brand of barbecue being smoked at South Winchester BBQ in San Jose. They are definitely a real deal smokehouse. They use two large Yoder trailer models and only use white oak. I tried the brisket (being from Texas I had to) and the tri-tip. The tri-tip was smoky and moist and had a nice flavor. The brisket, though definitely not ready for a Texas brisket competition, was very smoky, flavorful and tender moist. Both cuts of meat were well done. And the sides were plenty acceptible. I tried the potato salad and coleslaw. The potato salad was good but could have use a bit more mustard for my taste. The coleslaw was light and tasty, though chopped a bit too fine for me. All in all I was very happy with South Winchester and will return again when I am back in San Jose.
Tri tip was good but pretty fatty. The potatoes salad was fabulous.
Had the 4 rib plate that comes with 2 sides and garlic bread ($15). Ribs were good. BBQ sauce also good. Really liked the potato salad. Nice texture and well seasoned with a nice hint of acidity. Beans were just as good with good chunks of beef and just a perfect touch of BBQ sweetness. I think I liked the sides more than the ribs. Had 3 great craft beers by Alvarado Street Brewery. The beer, sides, and atmosphere pushed them up to 4 stars. I will go back for more good beer and try their other meats.
Yummy barbecue! The patio is unique and cute, especially at night with the hanging lights. It’s loud—between kids running around, cars on the road, and the food truck next door. It’s all part of the experience. The brisket was delicious. I might suggest having like two more barbecue sauce options. The craft beer!! I had the most tasty sour of my life here—the Bootleggers Bay from Barebottle Brewing Company. I will definitely visit here again.
We came here pretty close to closing, so not really expecting food to be as good as earlier in the day. Brisket was a little bit dry. The ribs were good! The Mac and cheese was good and so was toast. The beans were a bit undercooked; it seemed a little bit harder and not quite done. Maybe we’ll come back and try again.
Nice clean place with an outdoor seating area. With that said not much indoor seating. They have beers on tap and a refrigerator with canned beers and ciders! I got a half garden salad for $6 and added meat for $6 more. $12 for a good size salad. The hotlink, brisket and triptip were excellent. The hotlink is spicy but not over powering. The briskets burnt ends were sooooo tasty it was very well seasoned and the tritip had a great flavor. Sides: The bread was just okay, and the Mac and cheese was bland. The coleslaw was yummy and slightly sweet/tangy. Over all it’s a great place and we had a great experience. We’ll definitely be coming back!
This is a good spot for bbq. I tried 5 of the meats (brisket, ribs, pulled pork, sausage). A guy gave me a piece of tri-tip when I mentioned I hadn't tried it before. All of the meat was tender and juicy. The smoke was light but there. They use white oak. The stars, for me, were the ribs and brisket (fatty). I also ordered baked beans, mac & cheese, and a piece of cornbread. Like a lot of places, the sides are not as important and the normal portions are small. The mac and beans were ok. The cornbread was a pleasant surprise. It was on the sweeter side but went well with the meat. They offered three sauces. The first sauce was a good sweet, but not thick, bbq sauce. The spicier sauce did provide a little kick and was tasty as well. There was also a Carolina type of vinegar sauce. Also on the sweeter side, with the vinegar and a little spice. Went well with the pork. Winchester also had a selection of 10 beers on tap and beer fridge with a good selection for some take out. The atmosphere was cool. Everybody, diners and staff, were cool. Definitely would go back.
Smokey trip-tips, garlicky toasted bread, and the secret baked beans are a winning combination! Lots of beers on tap and great outdoor seatings, perfect for people with pets (tho I see many sad dogs wanting a piece of trip-tips...). A bit confusing to where to order your food but the staff is super friendly. Don't forget to grab a mint chocolate candy from the pick up window!
came to this restaurant around 3:30 PM on a Sunday. It wasn’t too crowded, and the decorations were fantastic. There’s a large merch wall and a selection of spices you can buy as gifts, which adds to the experience. I ordered the 4-meat combo and chose the brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and burnt ends. For sides, I went with mac and cheese and beans, and for bread I chose the garlic bread. All of this came out to $42 pre-tax, which I think is a pretty good deal. The brisket was my favorite—very fatty and smoky, exactly what I look for in good BBQ. The burnt ends were extremely salty and heavily sauced. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but they’re a bit hard to eat on their own because of how salty they are. I think they’d be much better paired with a piece of bread. The ribs were a little disappointing. They didn’t fall off the bone, which I was hoping for, though they did have good flavor. The pulled pork was fantastic. There were plenty of fatty pieces mixed in, which made it especially enjoyable. It was noticeably fattier than the pulled pork I’ve had at other BBQ spots, in a good way. As for the sides, the garlic bread was very plain—possibly by design since the meats are already quite rich. It’s nothing like the garlic bread you’d get at Olive Garden or a steakhouse; just lightly buttered with a subtle garlic flavor. The mac and cheese and beans were good, but they didn’t really stand out. One pleasant surprise was the Stubborn-branded fountain drink machine. I really enjoyed the root beer. One thing this restaurant does differently is that the meats are already seasoned and sauced. Unlike many BBQ places where you have multiple sauce bottles on the table, here everything comes pre-seasoned. If you want extra sauce, there are two containers near the cash registers. Overall, I think the value here is great, but I was a bit disappointed by how tough the ribs were. The meat didn’t fall off the bone, which took away from the experience for me.
Awesome BBQ place! Large outdoor seating area and nice patio. We ordered the Labor Day special plate: 3 meats, 2 sides and loads of garlic bread. Everything was delicious. The brisket was especially tender and juicy. They also have a cute little bar, will definitely try some local beer next time!

The food was delicious, the brisket so soft and flavorful. Service was great and fast. Plenty of seating outside.
Services prompt and friendly. The food had a nice smoke on it. I'll try it again the next time I'm in the area. Inside and outside of the facility was clean.
Food was okay. Had flavor but ribs were tough and brisket was over seasoned couldn’t really enjoy the meat. We had the wrong meat in one of our plates but they were gracious and fixed it no worries. After checking the receipt of course.
Very quaint, the workers seem to be friendly with regulars. The first person that helped us was much more welcoming than the second. I would say the tri tip was nothing to brag about. The potato salad was surprisingly good, and they have Stubborn soda brand which is one of my favorites. Otherwise, I might not be back for food alone
Went for dinner with friends. I had the burnt ends and ribs with mac & cheese and coleslaw. The burnt ends were very good and I would order them again. The ribs were just OK and I would not order them again. Very little meat on the bones. The mac & cheese was decent. The coleslaw was forgettable. One of my friends had the tri-tip and said it was very good but he thought the amount in the large order was small for the price. You order at the counter and then they text you when your food is ready. The gal at the counter was very nice and helpful. The food came out quickly. We were at the table visiting for a while and an employee came by and asked if she could bus our table. This was very nice because the normal routine is you clear your own table. I'll go back when I'm in the mood for burnt ends but I'll skip the ribs.
Went with some friends after a workout. We expected to load up on a ton of protein and carbs. Food portions were actually average in size and considering 2 of the meals were over $40 we were expecting a lot more. The ribs were ok, and not as tender as I would have anticipated; same with the tri-tip. However, the brisket was out of this world, easily the most tender and flavorful I've ever had. A little on the fatty side but that's the way I like it. One person ordered a grilled tri-tip salad and that thing was a monster. Easily the best value out of all the meals. The sides were hit and miss. The beans were smokey but the flavor was a little off, mac and cheese was somewhere between B and B-. The cornbread was outstanding. I know some other reviews gave the cornbread a thumbs down but mine was spot on. The pickled veggies were a nice add-on. The beer menu had quite a few options. In summary, it was decent but for the $$$ we paid it was a bit of a disappointment. 3 out of 5 stars is appropriate.
The meats are good but the sides are really poorly made and take away from the experience. If you come go with only meats. The brisket and ribs are good. Also tried the pulled pork and tri tip and those were okay. The ambiance is okay and they also carry craft beers which is good.
Food here is hit or miss. Brisket was melt in your mouth but lacking in flavor and seasoning. Ribs were nice and sweet but were lacking in smoke. Pulled pork was just OK. The one meat that hit the spot was the tri-tip. For sides I didn't like the thinly sliced cornbread, I prefer to have something thick and moist like a square or muffin. To me it felt stale and was slathered in butter to make up for it. Mac and cheese was solid. Garlic bread was pretty good as well. Potato salad was too sweet and mushy for my taste. Overall food 2.5/5 On a positive note, service was fast and there is plenty of parking and seating. Lots of brews to choose from as well
We went for a Saturday lunch. Service was quick and that's the only distinguishing feature of this place Had a Rib meal, Hot link sandwich and Smoked chicken sandwich. Food was all so-so. IPA draft beer tasted stale. Cleanliness wasn't showing all over the place. Costs about $30 per person with a drink. They have adequate customer parking. Overall not a place I'd recommend to a friend.
We shared a 2-meat combo of tri-tip and brisket. The meats were decent but wish the sides were better. The potato salad was nicely seasoned, and the cornbread was an ok pairing with our meats— but the beans tasted subpar. There seemed to be a large variety of beers although we didn’t try any. The outdoor patio was a nice place to sit despite being next to a pretty busy Winchester road.
The food is good and tasty! Unfortunately it was really cold, we were the last costumers at this day! Service is ok! I can’t say its good or bad, they are just ok! It's the system where you pay and then receive the food, at the end of the payment you have the tip offer, but why tip if I have to pick up my order at the counter? As i said, we’re the last costumers and the lady yield my name from the counter, so i think, i gave the tip only for them took up my order? Never come back, unfortunately, cause the food was good, i think it’s really good when its warm or fresh!
We got takeout, and I love that you can add brisket to the mac & cheese, but 0 for 2 on remembering to put it in the mac. Cornbread slide was disappointing and stale, and instead of a side of garlic bread our sandwich came with garlic bread buns. The ribs were the main reason we ordered here and those were great. One of the better BBQs in the area, but unfortunately, if you're not eating there, you have to live with the mistakes.
Decided to try this for dinner and got the half pound of brisket and two sides, with a pure leaf sweet tea. It was not at all worth the $40. The brisket was lean and dry. The coleslaw had apples and was vinegar based, which wasn't my favorite. The cornbread was more bread than anything, and I didn't have more than a bite of it. I was also served to go even though I wasn't asked if I wanted to stay or not, and didn't even get to go utensils. Disappointing all together.
I would kindly like to share some honest feedback about my experience here 😊 Considering that the prices are not very affordable, attention to those aspects below is especially important. With improvements in cleanliness, portion size, and food temperature, the overall customer experience would be much better. First, I believe the tables should be properly cleaned after each customer. At my table, there were small pieces and strands of meat left from previous guests, which negatively affected the overall atmosphere and cleanliness. Regarding the food, the portion size was quite small, and unfortunately the meat was served cold. While everything had an incredible flavor, these details made a noticeable difference in the experience.
Food was overpriced but nothing fancy. The meat was just okay, not overly good or delicious. The service, let’s say we self-served, from ordering to getting plates and utensils, then getting the food and drinks ourselves. Like eating at a buffet but pay like a-la-cart. One thing I noticed was they didn’t clean the tables. I didn’t know what the staff do except the ones standing at the cashier. From the tables I sat, I saw old customers leaving with their dirty plates but no one came to clean the table, even after new customers sat themselves down and cleaned the table themselves. Other than that, I would say this place has good vibe and atmosphere for family and friends meetups.
Tried it again since there are so few bbq options left nearby. The brisket was very tasty but only 2 slices for a sandwich? I'm not a big eater but this was not enough for a meal especially given t…

Inconsistent. How did this, for example, get through quality control? Or, you know, a cursory glance? I'm not going to completely kill it for one bad side order - but obviously I was less than thrilled to receive this today. Also, I can't not mention that they put seed oils (soybean) in their bbq sauce. Most legit BBQ places sound offended at the mere question they would put that kind of thing in their signature sauce, but here they do. Make of that what you will.
South Winchester BBQ was just okay. The indoor dining area wasn’t very appealing—it felt more like a casual sandwich shop. The prices were on the higher side. The beans were extremely spicy, but there was no mention of that on the menu. The atmosphere was loud, with both staff and customers talking over each other, making it an unpleasant spot for lunch or dinner. The food itself was average and even upset my stomach a bit.
This place used to be good. I used to talk this place up with friends and family, but after the last 2 meals here that definitely won't be the case. With one meal at $17 and the other at $16 it's just not worth ruining the night. It's not even about the price or small portions, because I'm willing to spend the money for a small portion if it taste good. Whoever is making the cuts for their meals is just being a bit sloppy. The first meal was a pork rib sandwich and there was a large bone hidden in the meat, luckily I wasn't chewing hard because it would of taken out a tooth. The second meal was a firebird which is chicken. There was a part of the meat that shouldn't of made it into an already small portion. Gave them a second chance even after some dry brisket sandwiches.
Ordered twice, 1st time was great; this time the online order wasn't working so I went in. I placed my order, including a canned soda and silverware. I also paid a 15% tip because I wanted it packed with care and accuracy. I only got 1 type of sauce (they have 2), no silverware, and no soda. I called, but their mailbox is full. So I'm just out of luck. I have to finish packing for a very early departure tomorrow. The 2nd time the beef tips were overly chewy, with several pieces VERY rare.
We got ribs, chicken, and coleslaw to go. The meat is thoroughly mediocre and lacking in flavor, neither myself or my husband thought it was worth the price. The coleslaw was really disappointing, the premade stuff at Safeway is better. It felt like the only ingredient that wasn’t the sauce, was iceberg lettuce. Overall we thought it was not tasty enough to justify the price. We won’t be going back
Great atmosphere but sadly the food wasn't very good and the portions were small for the price. What you see in the pictures is a two meat combo ($25.75 w/o tax & tip). Minuscule sides and very little meat. Honestly, only the beans were good after I added BBQ sauce otherwise they were tasteless. Sadly cannot recommend.
My son and his mom brought this back after an event they went to. I was given the brisket. It was all jelly like fat. Its was a portion of fat with very little meat. My son's brisket sandwich was the same way, more fat than meat. The tri-tip sandwich was on point, the bbq sauce was also quite good. The fact that 2 separate items consisting of the same meat type were basically 60% fat is the reason for 2 stars. I would not recommend this place at all. This is just a food review. I was not there to be able to answer all the other question categories.
First time we went, brisket was good. It was tender, but bland. Mac and cheese was good too. Beans were alright. Cornbread, however, was hard and kind of stale. The ribs were alright but it was too salty. Second time we went, brisket completely changed. It was so tough and wayyyy too salty. Tasted like beef jerky. So, I think their brisket is not really consistent. And it was also really pricy, but I guess that’s just everywhere nowadays. Service was nice and atmosphere was nice.
Went Sunday, was a warm day they actually had the heater on? Manager, wiped down table with a dirty towel, table sticky, got tri-tip, sandwich , potato salad, baked beans, the potato salad didn’t even look like potato salad was bad no flavor same with the beans no flavor Meanwhile, manager is trying to entertain kids ? Tri-tip sandwich had no flavor. Can’t believe it. No the only thing that saved it was their sauce. They have a pretty good sauce, but otherwise not a good experience. Don’t waste your time. warning barbecue places in San Jose are same company different names. There’s one on Blossom Hill but it’s called barbecue pit but they’re a little better. I can’t believe they don’t sell french fries either. What the heck.
First time I want to say the service was fantastic, really sweet, so good with kids. So I will give the service five stars hands down. But oh my God the food was so bad, I was unable to even fully eat my burnt ends. It was truly almost inedible. I would not serve that to anyone. And the coleslaw had no flavor.
Recommended by a colleague and decided to give it a try for Friday dinner. Spent over $90on 4 kinds of meats - tri tip, ribs, pulled pork and brisket, what can I say? Extremely disappointing!! Meats are dry and tough, fats are not fully rendered, I can still hold that brisket piece with two fingers.. thats probably smoked for only 2-3 hours. Anyone spends a good amount of time on it can get better results than this! Don’t waste your money! Will not return to this restaurant.
