Opinions de The Farmers Union San Jose
This restaurant truly stands out in the area, it has the most on-tap options I’ve ever seen at a dining spot. The variety alone makes it worth a visit, with something for every taste including sours, IPAs, etc. The food was excellent across the board, and there were absolutely no complaints there. Everything was well-prepared and satisfying. Service was attentive without being overbearing, which made for a smooth and enjoyable experience. It’s also great that they offer both indoor and outdoor seating, giving you flexibility depending on the weather or vibe you’re going for. Prices are a little higher compared to some surrounding spots, but the quality, selection, and overall experience make it worthwhile. Definitely a place I’d return to.
OMG Chewy & Elena killed it behind the bar!! we are talking Super Bowl weekend… Two bartenders running the entire bar, the entire restaurant and doing everything with such joy and happiness. It made me wanna cry. WOW 🤩🏈 amazing Super Bowl weekend. Thanks guys!! You nailed the customer service 👏
Here for Super Bowl and enjoying the spicy prawn linguine, classic deviled eggs with crispy prosciutto and beef brisket Asada tacos. All three were off the charts! Sat at the bar and enjoyed the ambience of casual dining in a fun comfortable setting. Highly recommend.
Loved this place for a laid-back but fun night out. It’s perfect for grabbing a few drinks and ordering a bunch of appetizers to share with the table. Everything we tried was flavorful and came out quickly, which kept the energy going. The ambience is lively and social — you can feel the buzz as soon as you walk in — but it’s still comfortable enough to hang out for a while. The service really stood out too. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we always had what we needed. It felt easy and relaxed the whole time. This is the kind of spot that works for happy hour, casual date nights, or catching up with friends. We had a great time and will definitely be back for more.
Came in super hungry after a long flight and sat at the bar and ordered the pesto chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and a water. Food was good and so was the service. The bartender was helpful in giving me a few places to check out while I’m in town. decided to come back for dinner, sat at the bar again to which the same bartender was there and when I walked in, I heard “what’s up Florida?” (Where I live) - as with anyone it’s always great to be recognized and engaged with when visiting a restaurant. This time I ordered the pan roasted salmon with a beer, and the food was delicious. lunch I walked out spending between $20-30 and dinner I spent $40-50
Very nice atmosphere and service. The only reason I didn't give 5 Star for food was because the serving was a little small. But than again I probably don't need the extra calories 😜
We had a fantastic experience at The Farmers Union, specifically exploring their vegetarian offerings. Every dish we tried was impressive, starting with a comforting and rich tomato soup that was perfectly seasoned. The mushroom empanadas were a highlight, offering a great savory crunch and wonderful flavor, and the beet salad was incredibly fresh and well-balanced. It’s a great spot for anyone looking for high-quality meatless options in a lively, welcoming setting. Even sticking strictly to the vegetarian side of the menu, we left feeling completely satisfied and had a wonderful time.
This was a fantastic place! Upon entering it’s a beautifully decorated restaurant bar & very inviting when you enter the doors. Greeted & seated immediately, we were there around 1pm for lunch. The menu had so many good choices it was hard to pick. We got the buttermilk ribs for an appetizer & omg I wanted another plate right after we finished them. They just fell off the bone & were fried to perfection. The sauce it comes with was a nice pairing as well. Then we got a burger, again, cooked to perfection & had nice toppings for it as well, the pickled onions was a nice touch. Loves this place & I will definitely be back for those buttermilk ribs!!
Farmers union is a great restaurant by San Pedro Square. The service was attentive and very helpful in recommending different craft beers to try based on beer style and provided samples if requested. The food menu had a good variety; ranging from standard Bar & grill items, slow smoked BBQ, as well as steaks and seafood. The Flat Iron steak with chimichura was really flavorful. The buffalo wings were good - the mango habanero wings were not as flavorful as I expected, but the classic buffalo wings had great flavor.
Great place for a quick bite and brew. It was a little hard to get the attention of staff at times, and as there didn't appear to be a uniform or apron on the front of house or wait staff who assisted us. Burger was excellent, poutine was great (though more like chilli cheese fries). Fries were perfectly crispy.
Food was amazing!! Calamari appetizer was Awesome! Blackened Salmon was a 10+! Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup was Amazing! French Dip was Perfect! And the special Chicken Marsala was incredible! The drinks are stunning with my recommendation of the barrel-aged Manhattan being my personal favorite! Try that special bourbon flight, if available. It was incredibly enjoyable! Service was top notch! I love this place and it’s got my highest recommendation when I’m anywhere near San Pedro in San Jose!
The food was delicious!! The location was fun, close to night life and restaurants. They had lots of beer options. There was also a public parking lot around the corner where my husband was able to park his giant truck. Our waiter was very nice but I gave it one less start because it was kind of slow. Maybe they were short staffed? Over all I highly recommend this spot!
Excellent food, nice ambiance, and a lot of beers on tap. Each of the dishes offered a unique flavor pairing that set them apart, such as the mushroom on the steak, the apples in the brussel sprouts with the pork shoulder, the smokey salsa on the brisket tacos, and the cheesey buttermilk biscuit with the brisket.
Amazing spot. Came in with a big group and shared a bunch of appetizers and desserts, everything was great. Our server Carlos was very friendly.

Service and atmosphere was excellent. However I ordered a grilled cheese and while the tomato soup was good, the grilled cheese seemed to be welded together via microwave. Bread was cold and the sandwich was frozen in a slated state- like they melted the cheese in a microwave. The cheese was very thin. However the Brussels sprouts and sweet potato fries were good. Ordered a CAB but could have swore it was a red blend.
Food was pretty hit or miss. My pork chop was pretty good, as were the potatoes with squash puree. The red cabbage was... ok. My wife's smoked chicken was really good, but the cheesy grits were kinda funky and the mac and cheese didn't have much flavor. It just felt like the flavors weren't mixed well and that's a shame, because the interior was pretty cute.
We came to The Farmers Union with a rather large group and are so glad we made reservations ahead of time—it was packed! We ended up having two extra people with us, but the staff was incredibly accommodating and found a way to seat us all together by pulling in an extra table off to the side. Huge shoutout to them for that flexibility. Even though they had us all order at the same time to help the kitchen stay coordinated, the food came out as it was ready—which is totally understandable given how busy it was. Each dish was absolutely delicious and bursting with flavor. The portions are generous—definitely sharable, especially for anyone who likes to try a bit of everything. The decor is… quirky in the best way. Some items might make you do a double take, but it gives the place a fun, unique charm that makes it memorable. Overall, great food, solid service under pressure, and a fun, eclectic vibe. Would absolutely come back—especially with a group!
Our second time here. First time for lunch this one for a grad night dinner. The food is good and tasty and well prepared. I had the flat iron steak with chimichurri sauce. The steak was very well cooked - pink throughout with no grey ring - and properly seasoned. The chimichurri sauce was tasty. The presentation was so-so: a cut steak with a lump of green sauce on it so they could work on that. We had the smoky beans as a side and they were well seasoned and flavorful but a bit watery. Mashing a few beans to thicken it into a light sauce would have been better. Our waiter served us well. We sat at the bar for a beer and there were three bartenders who ignored us for several minutes before approaching. After that they served us well but prompter service should be offered.

Very cool restaurant and bar, but food and drinks were not that great. They had a lot of great sounding options, but none of our orders had much flavor.

The restaurant itself was nice, good environment. Food not so good. Need to season better. Burger was a burger, but fries with no salt are not good. No salt on tables. Baked beans, again no seasoning. Grilled cheese great, tomato soup had no salt. Knowing how to salt food is so important.
Stopped in for brunch today and was very underwhelmed by the menu. Despite such an extensive all day menu there were only a few items provided. The coffee was also extremely weak. That said - we loved the vibe. The holiday decor was beautiful and the industrial furniture was chic. The staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming. Wish the food had been better to come back.

Place has gone downhill by several accounts: Food presentation mediocre, receptionist not receptive to wishes, and main dishes not worth the money. Some of the salads - beet in particular - present a well and taste very good. It makes me wonder if the focus is just on the beer, which is still great with one of the largest selections on tap. I used to work a block away and take clients there. Won’t do that again.
Went for brunch. There was hardly anyone there. Limited selection of brunch dishes. Ordered the biscuits and gravy. The server said they didn't have biscuits so I changed my order to the salmon Benedict. Then they came back and told us they actually did have biscuits. I decided to stick with the Benedict. When it arrived, I asked where the hollandaise sauce was. They said it was on there. There was a thin yellowish glaze on the egg. They offered to bring a side of hollandaise, which was bland and watery. The hashbrowns were undercooked and tasted bland. The spinach on the Benedict made the muffin soggy and diluted what little flavor there was. When the bill came there was a 5% operations charge in addition to a 20% gratuity. That's on top of the already high prices listed on the menu. The fried ribs were good, though. Maybe don't come here for brunch.
Place looks nice but overall not a great experience. Service was slow, they just opened the section we sat in, we were maybe 2nd or 3rd out of 6 tables. We were last to get water. Last to get silverware. Other tables got apps before we got water and they were even putting silverware on empty tables before we got ours. Very hard to communicate with server. Everyone working there had tired angry faces. No smiles. We got our app salad that we ordered to come out first along with out meals. Our food was cold, they made a new one, second dish was luke warm. I can't comprehend how. Seems like it was all pre-made and sitting in the kitchen and just put together when someone orders it. We ordered the steak mind you with fries. All cold. No follow up, no manager table touch, drink ordered took 15 min to get to table. Tried to split one salad between our two checks and server said he couldn't. I've world in restaurants for over 20 years, and I know Toast Systems, definitely lied about splitting one thing. Overall disappointing. Won't be back.
