A small place but you couldn’t find a nicer establishment. Ben was our server and you won’t find a more humble person. The atmosphere and attitude of the facility and staff were spot on. I will definitely return.

It's always hit or miss, however the last time I was there the service was excellent! I think they have gotten it together. I love the range on the menu, but it's been hard on their staff. Being a server myself I was incredibly impressed with the way it has turned around in the last few years! Good job to both the ladies and gentlemen cooking and serving!

The Mini Gourmet was the first Eatery in San Jose that I Fell in Love 💕 with about 17 years ago in 2006. I moved back to Monterey County in July of 2007. Two years later I moved back to San Jose from Salinas. Since 2009, this cozy upbeat small cafe has shut down a couple of times. Well, the Good or GRRREEEATTT NEWS is that after closing down due to the COVID-19 Business Shutdown -- Our Wonderful 👍 Mini-Gourmet has reopened. Back in March they re-launched and I being just a picky regular consumer think they will be doing Great !!! Close to San Jose City College and VMC - The Santa Clara Valley Medical Center -- this new business will give those institutions more eating options over Sandwiches, Burgers, Tacos and Burritos. I sat in for about an hour at the counter, near the Food Pickup Station. All the Wait staff was Smiling and quite Calm and Happy-Going. The Chefs seemed Calm, Considerate, Well-Dressed and Happy. I saw numerous prepared plates which were promptly picked-up and taken to Happy Hungry Diners. The Eggs, Potatoes, Pancakes, Toast, Club Sandwiches, and Burgers and Fries all looked quite Yummy and Deliciously Prepared. Management and Staff have scored a Home Run... or should I say... They have scored a Touchdown !!!

Amazing food, even at 11pm. We had onion rings, Western burger and Bistro Steak Medallions. It was a wonderful experience. Great friendly staff. Best of all, homemade key lime pie and German chocolate milkshake. Even the whipped cream was buttery, fresh and delicious. It became one of our favorite places. We’ll come back and bring more people for sure.

The food was great, I've been going there for years and so thru ought those years I've tried almost everything by now. Nothing failed to be delicious. The Omelettes, Casadillas, Spaghetti, Chicken and waffles, Hamburgers, nachos, soup, salad ect ect. And my personal favorite is the pho. I know it's an american diner but the owner is Vietnamese and she makes all the broth with her mothers recipe. So the pho is authentic and delicious! Overall one of my favorite diners in San Jose.

Came in on a random Tuesday with two friends and were seated right away as it wasnt busy at all. I got eggs California Eggs Benedict and they were pretty good. My friend both got steak and eggs, they asked for the steak medium but it wasnt medium.

Classic American style diner with breakfast served all day. Their sirloin steak dinner is very satisfying. Meat, potatoes and gravy for the working man's appetite.

I stop by here when I have an appointment in the area before the drive home. Nice big mugs of coffee with free refills, big juicy burgers and the best homemade pies and attentive service keeps me coming back over again!

The Food I ordered the breakfast plate with pancakes, eggs, bacon, and hash browns, and everything was cooked to perfection: • The Pancakes: Light, fluffy, and dusted with just the right amount of powdered sugar. They didn't even need much syrup—they were that good. • The Sides: The hash browns had that ideal crispy, golden-brown crust while staying soft on the inside. The bacon was thick and smoky, and the scrambled eggs were creamy and fresh. The Service Beyond the food, the service really made the meal. My waitress was fantastic—attentive, friendly, and kept the coffee flowing without me even having to ask. It’s rare to find a spot that nails both the "gourmet" quality and the "neighborhood favorite" service. Short Review: Lovely small family owned diner. Beautifully remodeled and decorated. They serve a large variety of American classics like eggs Benedict, omelettes, steak, and burgers. They have a good selection of soft drinks, fruit juices, wine, margaritas, as well as domestic and imported beers. Lovely place with fair pricing is what you’ll get when you come here. They accept card and cash for anybody who may be curious. Long review: Immediately upon entering, I was greeted by the waitress. Very lovely staff I was seated immediately and given the menu. The order for my drink was taken, and I was given a few minutes to look at the menu to see what I would like. They had a huge selection of different types of food, mostly American dishes. They also offered a small selection of classic Vietnamese soup dishes. They also have a small dessert menu, which include items like pie cake, and ice cream. The restaurant was very clean and well organized. The area was spacious and not cluttered. Within 10 to 15 minutes of ordering my food was ready, piping hot, and fresh. The portion sizes are huge, so the price point is very fair. They are not overpriced, which is great because a lot of places are over pricing these days. Highly recommend 10 / 10. Constructive Suggestion: The omelette was absolutely delicious. My only suggestion would be to lighten up on the salt, just a little. Other than that everything was mouthwateringly delicious.

While I’ve frequented Mini Gourmet for decades from grabbing breakfast late night to lunch or dinner at the counter, and my grandparents were regulars since way back in the day, today was our first time back after their remodel and reopening. Plenty of parking, clean dining room, affordable menu options, friendly and prompt service, and besides the beautiful remodel, it reminded me of old times. San Jose cafe hospitality at its finest. Glad to add them back into our rotation for breakfast spots…and looking forward to my next lunch or dinner there too.

Stopped in for a quick breakfast while I was working in San Jose. It was great! Service was awesome food was very good and I liked the atmosphere. Chicken fried steak and gravy was excellent! I always have to have a pancake too, it didn't disappoint. I always order my hash browns extra crispy and most places dont make it happen this place nailed it! Good breakfast, good service, endless coffee, etc. They do serve food other than breakfast but I tend to judge diners mostly on the quality of their breakfast items. Parking is a challenge at the popular breakfast/brunch times. Prices are reasonable. It is open late.

The mini gourmet is great! For a place that's open 24/7 the food is waaayyy better than Denny's (is that saying much?). But the mini gourmet has great omelettes, good burgers, decent coffee and oh yeah, they're open 24/7 so the food only gets better the later you're up.

Great place to grab some delicious food. It can get a little loud but customer service is almost always great! The cook really cares about the food they put out. My only cons are sometimes the silverware isn't clean, the bathroom is outside and you need a code and the three times I had egg whites there was some yolk in it, I just pushed it to the side because overall I'll come back again and again. Mini gourmet has been a San Jose staple for such a long time. They've always had a unique menu and the food is delicious. Although the menu has become a bit more limited (vs. previous years) the food is consistently good. The service is also good. They have a very nice dessert section that's always a surprise. Stopped off here this morning first time nice little spot. Has the Eggs, Bacon & Country Potatoes everything was delicious. Potatoes could have been cooked a little longer. But all in all was great !! The lady that served us was very nice and pleasant. Will definitely be back.

Came here for a late breakfast/lunch around noon on a Monday. A friendly waitress greeted and seated us right away. We quickly received menus and coffee. I had a BLT, and my wife ordered eggs with hashbrowns and sausage. The food was pretty good overall—my BLT could've used a little less lettuce, but the fries were perfectly crisp. My wife enjoyed her meal as well. The bathroom was clean, which is always a plus. Total: $41 before tip. Credit cards accepted

When he brought the plates, he didn't remember who ordered what, and instead of going to the other side of the table we had to reach across the length of it. Also the "large" juice they charged me over $3 for was about 8oz. On the plus side the food was decent and they're open 24 hours. Good for cravings.

Service was great and quick. The food was no bad or anything. It was very difficult to get something that to eat to accommodate a Vegan diet. There are so many recipes for gourmet vegan choices there is no reason why this "Gourmet" restaurant cannot offer at least two or three items. The service saved this business from two stars.

I got a chance to go to mini gourmet today! Took nearly 20 min just for our water and drink order after we sat ( I had time to use the restroom and play a game with my son on our phones)Took a long time for our food to come out. And my fries were refrigerator cold. I literally hate complaining about anything to my servers but they were so cold there wasn't any way to enjoy them. My son's garlic bread was cold, his chicken was steaming hot but his noodles were cool😭 im hoping it was just an off day because we used to love this place so much! I've been going there since I was pregnant with him 15yrs ago (was my biggest cravings place).

Large portions and friendly staff. Pretty basic american diner food but its not bad. Everything I've tried has been good but I can't say anything itself is spectacular. We usually go here for convenience, not cravings. Biggest dislike: super close seating. You can clearly hear conversations of everybody close to you.

Good for a greasy spoon. Usually high quality for a greasy spoon. The coffee tastes like Waffle House blend, but stronger... So... It's just sufficient, which makes me sad :(. Super friendly service. Well lighted. Clean.

Mini Gourmet just had a renovation when I visited a couple months ago. I came here for lunch with my friend. The service was ok. And the food was ok too. It is not bad but not as good as it looks either. The lettuce tasted like it has been sitting in the fridge for a while so I didn't finish it.

Lots of choices. We ordered pork chop with eggs and a cheese burger. Nothing really stands out. Service was prompt and friendly. Was surprised the covers of some chair cushions were already worn and split, considering this place was just reopened not that long ago.

Very short staffed, which caused long wait time for food and coffee refills, but the crew that did show up were working very hard. Food was brought out quickly and was hot, but the wait was 25 - 30 minutes. I've had great service here many times, just not today. Food is good, not great, and a little overpriced, but it's local and not a chain, so we keep going back.

It was okay. I’ll say the service wasn’t bad, food was out quickly despite other reviews I had read. The food however was very generic. Quite expensive for food that tastes like it was made at home. And the portions are smaller and more expensive than at similar places around.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression! We recently visited Mini Gourmet. This place is great but needs to work on customer service. We live near the restaurant and walked to grab breakfast and mimosas. Not knowing that they had a liquor license, we brought our own bottle of sparkling wine. Upon entering the restaurant, the lady behind the counter greeted us loudly with, "You can't bring that in here!" It took me a bit by surprise as usually we hear, "Welcome to....". We weren't welcome, not with a bottle! While I understand the requirements of the restaurant, I suggest a little more professionalism. We would have felt more at ease had the lady said, "Welcome to Mini Gourmet, we are happy you came. Unfortunately, due to liquor licensing laws, we are unable to allow the bottle. Could we store it for you or would you be able to leave it somewhere else?" While we didn't feel welcome, it was obvious they were only interested in the bottle, I hope they can work on their customer service skills so they are able to stay in business. Being that we walked, I couldn't put the bottle in our car. Fortunately, I was able to store it right outside the restaurant door.

Updated review: (four-ish stars) Based on the owner's response, (and the fact that they are now open in the evening) we went back and gave it one more chance. This time the food was pretty good - they did char the onions on my sausage/pepper/onion omelet, and one round of toast went missing, but overall everything was hot & edible. The coffee was good. They are still having staffing issues - there was only one guy valiantly serving the entire restaurant on a Friday night. We were warned when we came in, but it was even slower than predicted. Original review: (two stars) My happiness at seeing an old favorite restaurant re-open after a long closure didn't last long - the country potatoes were COLD and GREASY (the cardinal sin of breakfast fare). We had the Joe's Scramble and the 3-Meat Scramble, both of those were decently prepared but small portions. Toast was dry, coffee was on the bitter side. Service was bare-minimum and distracted - they kept trying to give regular coffee to someone drinking decaf. The overall tab was the same as our other regular breakfast places, but we got about half as much food (which wasn't as good), so I don't think we'll be back (unless they bring back the late night hours & menu).

I can’t rate this place because it’s not open. I drove by today at noon and it looks like it’s still under construction!! Why does the listing here on google say you’re open? Business please update your patrons on your hours. I will give you a better review once I can try your services and food but until then you get a one star because your Google listing says you’re open and you are absolutely not open.

Hmmmmm, something was lost during its closure. Our meals were bland and were not filling like the old helpings in it's hey day. Today, we passed by the restaurant. It was open, but no cars or patrons at the counter. Not good! Mini Gourmet better get its act together.

My girlfriend and I came here for breakfast. Not so great experience. She got an egg scramble, but made her stomach upset almost immediately. I decided on the pancake sandwich, the pancakes were very bland, no flavor, also one of the pancakes were raw inside. I received sausage links that very good and 2 fried eggs that were also good. The syrup for the pancakes was so bland it was like the syrup was sugar free. Overall not a great experience. We will not be coming again especially after we saw many plates of food go back to the kitchen.

Can only speak for the breakfast plates, but this place is awesome for it. Friendly staff and a diner counter make this a good spot for eggs and pancakes anytime! Edit: So after my most recent trip here I've decided to deduct stars. Sad too, because I really liked going here. But sheesh, the service seriously depends on who's working, and so does the food quality. First time I had an off meal I chalked it up to "can't win them all," but now 3 sad omelettes in a row and not much more than a grunt from the waiter... sorry but there are a lot of other places around here than know how to cook eggs and smile when you pay for them. Ordered the salmon and prime rib steak. The salmon was not cooked through (i.e. raw in the middle) and the steak arrived well done instead of medium-rare as ordered. Powered through about half, but began to feel tortured. Their typical breakfasts were decent though. Definitely recommend sticking with the beaten path here - adventurous choices will be punished.

I came in by myself on a Friday, didn’t seem busy. There were a lot of seats available. I got greeted and was told to sit anywhere. I sat at the bar. Waited to get a menu. Nothing :( I had atleast 3 different people working in there pass by me and nothing. Even the guy that greeted me had passed me at least twice and nothing. Sucks, I really wanted to try this place. I wasn’t getting any service, I just walked out of there.

I used to come here years ago and the food was good. Came today arrived at 10:30 am. It was busy and it's Sat Brunch I expected a wait. After being sat, getting our food and leaving it was 12. Not because we took our time it was because everything was delayed. But I will say I felt bad for the servers they seemed understaffed for the volume of weekend Brunch. The servers were good and attentive my complaint is not with them as I stated I felt bad for them. It was the food. I read the reviews before coming in and they seemed positive. I know they just re-opened and renovated the place. Got the Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast. The gravy itself was just OK. The Biscuits were gummy. Had to use a steak knife just to cut through them. The Over Medium egg was odd and looked like it was baked.. idk. My sister got the Classic Benedict. The hollandaise was chunky and deep yellow brown. Her fruit cup was not edible. Fruit was expired and mushy. The food when delivered wad lukewarm-ish but mostly cold. I had high hopes but I will not return. Bummed because I live up the street and this would be a spot I could see myself frequenting like I did in the past. Servers again were great! Not sure what is going on in the kitchen but it was not good.

We ordered food online so we can just pick up and go. They didn’t offer any sides to order on their online ordering site. Figured I’ll just order it there. Walk in and there was a guest already at the register checking out. Attendant tells me to just go find a seat anywhere. I tell her I have an online order that I wanted to pick up. She tells me it’s ready. I tell her I’d like to place another order. She tells me ok, in 10 minutes. Guest in front of me finishes and I step forward. She walks away from me and takes an order from one of the tables. I totally understand. She comes back and puts their order into the system in front of me. Then walks away to get their drinks. Ok. Another guests comes up behind to check out. Attendant asks me to move out so she can help the person check out. I tell her but I’m waiting to put in my order. She says ok, she’ll take my order in 10 MINUTES! I don’t get it. I’m first in line. Been waiting. Why won’t she just take my order? I grab my pick up order and left. This is ridiculous. I’ll never come back with service like that.

Wish this place was good. Our waitress didn't really understand what a "special" was and i had to explain it only to recieve the response, "the specials are on the sides." Then when i asked for a hot tea she did not know what types of tea they had, and listed multiple that actually weren't available, then had to be asked to bring the selection over. We never recieved any check up after ordering so the hot pot of water from the tea and the tea carousel lived on our already small table. The scrambled eggs were bland. The hashbrowns needed to stay on slightly longer as well. The pancakes didn't taste like they were made from scratch and were dry. The salmon benedict was good, they seemed to use a seared salmon instead of a thin sliced smoked salmon so you get a little more which is nice. Unfortunatly, the holandaise sauce didn't have the right consistency or have the lemon flavor that really is suppsosed to bring it all together. This is a fine place to try once, but there are a dozen other breakfast places where the food is better, the servers are more knowledgeable and able, and the prices are the same, if not better. Lower your expectations before coming in.

I thought they'd have better food after their renovation, but unfortunately not. The omelet I ordered was very greasy, and the pancakes my wife ordered were tasteless and like plastic, very difficult to cut. The waitresses were very friendly and attentive, but the food disappointed me.

I was craving fresh country potatoes, but sadly I was given potatoes that were clearly cooked hours earlier. Won't be going back.

We arrived to the restaurant. We were not greeted or told that we will be seated. They acted like if there was no one. Overal,l very bad service

this place closed down and i used to go here every weekend, i was disappointed to say that when it reopened i went and it was horrible service and horrible food. i ordered biscuits and gravy and they were cold and hard as a rock, my dad ordered a cheeseburger and the cheese wasn’t even melted and the patty was cold. my boyfriend ordered a steak sandwich and it was hard and COLD. it was so disappointing because i used to love this place and it was sad to see the first time i come back, it was nothing like how it used to be. our server was not nice and rushed us through our whole order. so disappointed and i unfortunately wont be returning.

False advertising! Refused to honor their daily special handwritten outside. I had verified beforehand after placing my order and consuming the food with the waitress. Prices are expensive, and place is small.

I had dinner with a friend this evening at the Mini Gourmet and it was not good at all. I ordered the Fajita steak, which looked like processed hamburger and tasted off. I should've sent it back. My friend's Steak Medallion was hamburger meet, not steak. The hamburger I ordered to go was raw in the middle and the hamburger meet tasted strange. The rest of the food was greasy. It was also way over priced. The Mini Gourmet used to be a good place. Now since it has reopened, it's no longer good. I won't be going back there any time soon.

We're extremely dissatisfied with our recent visit with our experience at Mini Gourmet located on Bascom ave/Moorpark. He brought Overheated cheese Burger for my six years old daughter,that was kept under the light indicates it was returned order from a customer to resale it, And an unwelcoming atmosphere made our experience unpleasant. We were shown to a table, but not seated. We waited more than 10 minutes for menus. Our daughter's cheeseburger was inedible and A scorching hot plate almost burned my six-year-old daughter and my five year old son. As you can see the picture. Despite three calls to the owner, I received no response, indicating a lack of care for customers. We've reported this to the Health Department and Better Business Bureau. We will never go back and would tell friends and family. This was burger brought to the table, a big piece broke off and fell while my six years old trying to take a bite. Couldn’t paste the picture here Below seen in the Togo box, I had my kids with me so we got out like nothing happen , don’t want create a scene .

Stopped by for our anniversary dinner and sadly ended up with food poisoning , owner chuckled at the fact when we complained and let us know they have insurance and we can go to the doctor, suggested it might’ve been something else we ate. MEATLOAF had spaghetti in it which was weird, plus the mashed potato was cold in the middle. Save your time and money. This place is not what we were told. My husband had frozen fish n chips which was the “Friday special” and they didn’t have any beer in stock from the menu, finally had to settle for modelo (nothing wrong with modelo just wasn’t my first choice) and they “couldn’t find” the michelada mix which was just awesome.

Not the best food for a late night meal! There were also ants on the table.

I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich and the meat was raw. Not even a little bit rare, RED raw meat. I sent it back. The fans were on above us the whole time making us cold aswell. The food that was cooked was bland and the waiter was the only thing good about this place. Sucks because this was my favorite place as a kid and I’ve been waiting forever for it to reopen. wasn’t worth it. It was all very expensive.
