Opinions de Din Tai Fung San Jose
Oh my god… SO delicious!! 🤍 The wontons were hands down the best we’ve ever had .. perfectly balanced and so flavorful. The fried rice? Absolute perfection. Simple, yet insanely good. the chocolate dumplings and sea salt tea… MIND. BLOWING. 🤯 The sweet + salty combo was just chef’s kiss. Special mention to our server Kate at the Westfield location Santa Clara .. she was incredibly sweet, patient, and explained everything so clearly since it was our first time. She truly made the experience even better. 5/5 rating just for her service alone! Can’t wait to go back 🤍
The place is delicious, there string bean, spicy chicken wonton, and chicken noodles are a must have. Also can't forget the chocolate dumpling with sea salt cream. My friend and I decide to eat here sometimes last minute so we sit at the bar. If you are planning to come with family or large groups it's best to do a reservation since this place fills up fast. At the bar there is a waiting time depending on the day and time. There service is good and the place is clean.
It’s a great place to taste my hometown’s dishes! Friendly service and delicious food as usual. You can come early having brunch here to avoid long lines.
If you come here, the Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings) are non-negotiable. The precision in every dumpling is incredible—the skins are paper-thin but never break, and the broth inside is flavorful and rich. We also tried the Spicy Wontons and the Shrimp Fried Rice, both of which were standout dishes. Even though there is usually a wait, the service is incredibly efficient and the staff is attentive. Watching the chefs hand-fold the dumplings through the glass window is a great touch. It’s a masterclass in consistency and taste!
Din Tai Fung is hyped, and I see why, but the level of hype is so great that no matter how good this place is, it could not reach the fame it has acquired. You need a reservation to get in, and we luckily got on, but it is crazy that this place is booked and busy on a Tuesday night! Although, they run this place like the military. The staff is efficient yet nice, they are attentive and quick while still taking the time to explain how to make the sauce and what to order off the menu. They even preemptively brought out a towel to wipe off spills from our table! You order on a sheet - we got a few dishes and split amongst 3 people so the total came to almost 100 before tip. The crab XLB was good, very crabby without being sweet like some crab meals are. The spicy sesame noodles are good too, and the spicy pork wontons have a lovely kick! I have had better shao mai though. The cucumber salad was also standard. The star of the show was the dessert XLB. The chocolate ones were solid but nothing special, but the sea salt foam is absolutely worth it. Together it elevates dessert! I would eat honestly just cups of the foam. Overall, I left feeling full but not stuffed, and I enjoyed the experience overall!
It was enjoyable and super packed. I definitely recommend booking a reservation or else you’ll be waiting for 1-2 hours for a table. I got the cucumber salad, xiaolongbao and spicy wontons. The cucumber salad was basic nothing too special. The spicy wontons were also okay, not too spicy. The main thing that was really good were the xiaolongbao. Very flavorful and soupy. If anything I would recommend getting the xiaolongbao!
Great food. We booked this reservation a month ago bc we knew that it would be very hard to get a walk in spot. The string beans are very good and just tasted great. The xao long bo with pork was great but i will have to say that it wasn’t very hot…. The spicy noodles and vegan wontons were delicious and the sauce is super flavorful. I was very excited to try the rice cakes and i will have to say there were delicious but a bit underwhelming. Would recommend!!!
It was a chilly Wednesday evening, when my partner and I were looking for a date night spot. We were already in the area getting drinks so we figured we could join the waitlist at DTF and it was around 2 hours at 6:00. So we killed our time hanging around the mall and then headed over to the restaurant. It is a legendary restaurant and rightfully so. The service and vibes were perfect. Jimmy C, our server, was super friendly and problem solving which really made the service experience great. The food is definitely a little overpriced if you were considering the food alone, but overall the experience definitely explains the cost. We ordered the baby back rib appetizer, as well as the pork XLB, the shrimp and pork wontons, and the shanghai rice cakes with shrimp. All of the food was delicious, but the best part was definitely the service we received from all of the staff.
Din Tai Fung was recommended by my friend and we visited on a weekday. Our friends group finally made it in — though not without planning ahead, since reservations here are almost always required. The ambience is elegant, the atmosphere lively, and the service attentive, making it feel like a true fine-dining experience. As a vegetarian, I appreciated that they offered a few solid vegan/vegetarian options. We tried the vegan dumplings, broccoli, and vegetable & mushroom fried rice with egg — all of which were flavorful, fresh, and beautifully prepared. For the meat lovers in our group, the famous xiao long bao (soup dumplings) were the highlight. They were highly recommended, and according to everyone who tried them, they absolutely lived up to their reputation. Dessert was another memorable part of the meal. We ordered the chocolate mochi xiao long bao, which were fantastic — warm chocolate oozing out with each bite. The sesame and sea salt dipping paired perfectly and elevated the experience even more. Overall, Din Tai Fung is highly recommended, especially if you’re looking for a refined dining outing with a group of friends. Great food, great service, and a place that truly earns its popularity.
Excellent quality food as always. On par with Seattle and Dubai locations. Come for the Xiao long bao xlb. Jin was a super nice and attentive server even offering extra ginger which no one has done before. Had one hiccup with the wait-list where we got text message to check in despite still being about 50th on wait-list and then subsequently tlhaving the reservation canceled. Luckily we had made two separate reservations within our party on accident and the second stayed true to time with no hiccups
Dining at Din Tai Fung was an absolute delight. The hand-made noodles had that perfect, satisfying chew and were seasoned beautifully—flavorful without ever feeling heavy or salty. The soup dumplings were the highlight: perfectly plump, filled with rich, aromatic broth that bursts with every bite. Even the vegetables stood out—so fresh, thoughtfully marinated, and clearly prepared with care. We arrived about twenty minutes before opening and were fifth in line. By the time we were seated, the line had stretched far behind us—and now I understand why. Every dish was worth the wait. Come hungry, because you’ll want to try everything on the menu.
The soup dumplings/xiao long bao are always so consistently good at Din Tai Fung. It tastes pretty much the same as the original in Taiwan. I always love their fried rice (either the shrimp or the fried pork chop fried rice). The only issue I have is that there’s always a long line and there’s no DTF closer to SF 😭. The bar is the best option for walk ins. But if you’re in Seattle, there are so many branches there.
Din Tai Fung never disappoints! The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and beautifully made. The dumplings are perfection delicate, juicy, and packed with flavor and everything from the noodles to the sautéed greens tastes like comfort in a bowl. Service is always friendly and efficient, and the whole experience feels organized even when it’s busy. The wait can be a little long sometimes, but once the food arrives, it’s totally worth it. Overall, such a satisfying spot. simple, delicious, and consistently great every single time.
The ambiance is sleek, modern, and very bright. It's busy, but the layout is organized, and the energy is buzzing. It's a high-volume restaurant, yet the service is truly exceptional, highly polished, attentive, and incredibly fast. They manage the flow like a well-oiled machine, ensuring you're never waiting long once seated and your table is always clean. It's impossible to come here and not get the Xiao Long Bao (XLB), and they are, without question, the best soup dumplings in the world. The photo and video show those perfectly pleated little parcels, each one filled with savory broth and tender filling. You can see the delicate wrapper holding all that juicy goodness. I also absolutely loved the Pork Chop Fried Rice; the rice is fluffy and light, and the pork chop is perfectly seasoned and tender. It’s simple food done flawlessly. To round things out, we ordered a side of Sauteed String Beans with Garlic, which were fresh, vibrant, and provided a great contrast to the rich dumplings. Din Tai Fung isn't just a meal; it's an experience. If you love dim sum and Taiwanese cuisine, this is the destination. I'm already planning my next trip back!
Quick service , ordered chicken xlb to go . Easy to use QR code . Parking can be tricky
Food excellent , service good, but takes forever getting seated! NY DTF is very large! But doesn't seem very efficient to accommodate the large influx
I came back a few days ago and the lychee pear martini is sooo good! I's clean inside pers usually and the staff are great. The food takes a while, but it worth it!

🥢 Good Food, but the Wait is a Dealbreaker My first time trying Din Tai Fung was a bit of a mixed bag. The food is good, and I can certainly understand why it has such a massive following, but for me, it wasn’t worth the wait. We went in knowing there is always a massive line, so we tried our luck at the bar seating area, but even that took a while to open up. While the meal itself was pleasant, the time spent waiting vs. the actual dining experience didn't quite balance out. If you are a die-hard fan of soup dumplings, you might feel differently, but as a first-timer, the hype didn't entirely justify the hours lost. 🥟 Culinary Highlights and First Impressions The kitchen is clearly a well-oiled machine once you actually get to your seat. Signature Xiao Long Bao: The soup dumplings are the star for a reason. They are delicate, the broth is flavorful, and the craftsmanship is evident. Menu Variety: Beyond the dumplings, the spicy wontons and the cucumber salad were solid additions to the meal. The flavors are clean and consistent, which is likely why it remains so popular. The "Hype" Factor: While everything we ate was high quality, there are plenty of other great dumpling spots in the area that don't require this level of commitment just to get a seat. ✨ Surprisingly Attentive Service One thing that really stood out was the level of hospitality. Even though the restaurant was packed and the staff was clearly under pressure, the service was good. Regular Check-ins: The servers checked on us frequently to make sure we had everything we needed. Efficiency: Once we were finally seated and ordered, the food arrived quickly and the staff remained professional and friendly throughout the chaos of the rush. 🏢 Atmosphere and Energy The restaurant has a high-energy, modern vibe. Watching the chefs through the glass window as they meticulously fold the dumplings is a cool touch, especially for a first-timer. It definitely feels like a "destination" restaurant, but that also contributes to the crowded, slightly frantic feeling of the lobby and bar area. 📉 Final Thoughts and Recap To recap, while the food is good and the service was very attentive even during the busiest hours, the massive wait—even when trying for bar seating—was just too much for me. It was an interesting first experience, but I’ve concluded that the meal simply wasn't worth the wait in the end. If you can snag a reservation weeks in advance, it's worth a visit, but as a walk-in, be prepared for a long haul that might leave you feeling underwhelmed by the time the food actually hits the table.
We came into Din Tai Fung with some very rose colored glasses considering the massive hype this place has garnered over the last few years. How did our experience hold up? Decently well, we’d say. First things first, parking is very easy since it’s located within Valley Fair but you do experience the biggest barrier for entry before you step in: the waitlist. We went on New Years Day at noon and were 80th on the waitlist, and that’s a VERY good draw. If you’re looking to come here you MUST check in on the waitlist hours in advance or there is no chance you’ll be able to be seated. People will typically check in hours before and then walk around shopping before settling on the couches outside of the restaurant. After doing our time (roughly 1.5-2 hours on a list of 80 parties ahead) we finally got in and the interior is nice, a bit laid back from what we were expecting but still nice. Service was phenomenal here, the waiters and staff checking in and keeping things flowing as best they could considering the massive amounts of people inside. You can prep your order before you sit down on penciled in cards which we took advantage of so ordering was pretty quick once we were seated. We ordered half a dozen dishes but we’ll talk about the standouts to us. The standouts were the braised beef noodle soup brimming with flavor, the pork Xiao long bao which despite being small was very delicious, and the chocolate Xiao long bao which is very much worth every bit of the hype. The only thing we would say to avoid is the cucumber salad as it really just doesn’t have the flavor or value to make it worth ordering. By the end of the meal we were sufficiently full which surprised us as the portions were small but they do get to you. The whole experience was undoubtedly fun and rewarding. The food isn’t the best you’ll eat but taking everything else into the experience we can see why Din Tai Fung is hyped up to the degree it is. If you have the time and don’t mind paying for the premium of the food and experience then we definitely recommend checking this place out.
This well-known restaurant is famous for its xiao long bao. I have visited several times, sometimes getting a table immediately when we arrived just as they opened, and at other times waiting for 2 to 3 hours. A couple of years ago, when it had just opened for about a month, we got a table at 9 pm and finished dinner close to midnight. This time, we arrived around 11 am and faced a wait time of 2 to 3 hours. We decided to sit at the bar, which had minimum wait to no wait time. Sitting at the bar was quite nice as it allowed us to chat with the staff. The bartender was friendly and introduced each guest to the other bar patrons. The ordering system is straightforward, requiring only that you add the number of each dish you wish to order. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, and you can order cocktails directly from the bartender. We ordered our usual favorites: xiao long bao, spicy noodles, and wontons with chili oil. All were delicious, and we finished every dish. The prices are reasonable, with a suggested minimum tip of 18%. I think as the restaurant is famous, they need to consider opening another one somewhere within Bay area to avoid customer has to wait 2 to 3 hours.
Finally! We got to finally try Din Tai Fung after hearing about it for such a long time and then waiting for some more in the wait-list Was it worth the 2 hours wait? As a vegetarian person, don't think so! But other than that, it was good. Service was so prompt and staff was friendly and kind. Ambiance was pretty noisy and one could hear everything from the next table, I heard a discourse from other table on Sabrina vs Taylor and learned a few things :D We got vegan noodles in sesame sauce and loved the texture, vegan wontons were in a spicy sauce and mixing the both tastes actually worked better for me than individualy. Husband enjoyed their signature dumplings. It was a good place for one time dinner, might not wait for 2 more hours again for this meal unless they introduce more vegetarian options :)
Good service, decent food, nothing I would really write home about. With the one exception of their Vegan chocolate Xiao Long Bao! Super recommend it, with the added salted cream. I have stopped by once only to get that as a dessert. But they are PACKED. Unless you want to wait for a sit at the bar (they also serve food at the bar), I don't recommend trying without a reservation. And they go by FAST! So keep that in mind if you want to come as a party of 4+
Service ambiance is fine, their famous Xiao long Bao is bad, skin is thick not like before, Not going back again

Came during the week for dinner and was told there's a 3-3.5 hour wait. Are you serious??? Decided to be on the wait list to see if it's really that long, and yup, we waited about 3 hours to get a table during a normal week night. This is ridiculous! What happens to the wait time during the weekend? Will people need to wait 5+ hours for a table if weeknight takes 3-3.5 hrs? Luckily it's inside Valley Fair, so you can walk around the mall to kill time, however, the three hour wait is excessive for a regular weeknight. Once you do get in and are seated, their food is good and service is great. They have many people working and they all speak English. The place is bright and clean. Decor is nice. Out of all the appetizers, the wood ear mushroom in vinegar dressing is the best one and very flavorful. The wrapping in the XLB is thin. All the food came out fairly fast and the XLBs are piping hot. If you sear at the bar, be aware that they're asking to show you ID now when you line up, even if I don't plan to order alcohol. They need to find a way to reduce the wait time better (may be restrict dining time to 2 hours?....etc). The wait time is insane. Don't recommend coming during the weekend unless you have reservations, or plan to walk around / shop for at least 4-5 hours.
Great choice for chinesse food inside the mall! It’s usually busy so make sure to make a reservation, you can also seat at the bar, first come first served. They have a lot of options including vegetarian, the wine list is well selected and the food is really tasty. The place is clean and well decorated, you can see the staff at the kitchen preparing food from the outside, very clean. Located at ground floor. The cucumber salad is a must so are the noodles, the taro buns are really good for dessert. You will like your visit here!
Food is expensive for what it is dumpling hour offers the same but bigger and cheaper. Long wait times and drinks take for ever but it is cozy and cute to have date night at.

San Jose's Din Tai Fung: Where Patience Pays Off for Perfect XLB
Alright, fellow food enthusiasts, let's talk about Din Tai Fung in San Jose. If you haven't been, you've definitely heard the buzz. It's the kind of place that consistently delivers on its reputation for exquisite Taiwanese cuisine, and it’s a spot I find myself recommending to friends over and over, with a little asterisk attached.First, the asterisk: be prepared for a wait. Seriously, it can take forever to get seated, and even after that, your food might take a while to arrive. This isn't...
