Opinions de Kenji Sushi San Jose
Review: I recently had the pleasure of dining at a sushi restaurant, and I must say it was a delightful experience. The sushi was pretty fresh, and the toro and uni stood out as particularly delicious. Overall, if you're a sushi lover looking for a fresh and flavorful dining experience, I highly recommend giving this place a try. You won't be disappointed!
Clean, really nice decor, has a parking lot, food isn't salty, food is extremely delicious!! I ordered the geisha cocktail, chicken katsu, and the orange blossom sushi roll. There were 2 more pieces of sushi but it isn't shown in the picture. Highly recommend and will come back! Also, place is across from Santana Row.
Japanese food in general is an acquired taste. I am so glad Kenji has helped me in acquiring it. I had the Rising Sun Sushi, while my friends had green monster and veggie caterpillar with Veggie Gyoza. Great taste and great service, everything was quick, just like the Japanese train system. Definitely worth trying, if you want to have Japanese food.
I tried the softshell crab appetizer. Really good, could taste the crab not just batter. Has the Orange Blossom roll, tasty with lots of salmon. I finished with a Habuchi Kama, very juicy. My wife had a California roll and a Cucumber roll, she liked both. My son had a green monster roll, pretty good he says
We love Kenji Sushi and have been coming here for years. The atmosphere is chill and the service is friendly. My favorite item is the Shrimp Balls; Crab and Shrimp “salad” rolled and fried in panko crumbs, topped with unagi sauce and spicy mayo. Delicious! Their sashimi is fresh and nice sizes. I usually go for the Sake Sashimi and this time also tried the Fusion Salmon Nigiri which was incredible. Parking gets full fast and is a small lot. It’s best to come here off-hours to avoid the crowd and parking congestion.
Great food and big menu to choose from. The place is decorated well and looks very unusual inside and outside. At the table service is good and nice and responsive. It is noisy inside in the evening, so definitely not a family dining place. The parking is too small for the amount of people who want to dine here. When you enter you need to self register on small screen, which is not obvious and attendants are not that helpful here (at least they were not in our case).
Kenji Sushi was a great experience from start to finish. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared, with every bite tasting high quality. The service was friendly, attentive, and made the meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great sushi and excellent service!
Kenji Sushi in San Jose is my go-to sushi spot! It’s become a real comfort food place for me because the sushi is always super consistent and great tasting. They have a huge variety of rolls, so there’s always something new to try. Finding seating has always been easy for me, but they also have a bar area if you prefer that vibe. The service is friendly and welcoming, and I’ve definitely been encouraged to keep drinking sake—which I personally love and find hilarious. It makes the whole experience even better! If you’re a sushi lover looking for great food and a chill atmosphere, I’d definitely recommend checking this place out!
The fish was very fresh and delicious. The rolls were creative and very tasty. The Ocean Breeze had apple as an inside filler, and it was very tasty and complimented the fish very nicely. The kiss of fire had a kick but was not overly spicy, I actually expected it to be spicier than it was. All in all this was one of my better sushi experiences in the south bay and I will be going back again
The service was exceptional from start to finish. Our server was friendly, attentive, and clearly knew the menu inside and out. They gave great recommendations and made sure everything—from drink refills to the pacing of our meal—was perfectly timed. It’s not often you get service that feels both professional and genuinely welcoming, without ever being overbearing.
great vibe 💜, good food, understanding manager, friendly servers n staff. Customers care about family friend n don't mind talking to strangers. Buy people drink n start talking. Gave the smart starving waitress $100 so she could afford to eat at the restaurant she work at with her friend.
Me and my girlfriend have come in a few times now and it’s by far our favorite spot to enjoy sushi in the Bay Area. Service is super fast and polite. Restaraunt is clean and has a nice set up.
This sushi restaurant truly impressed me! The quality of the sushi is top-notch—the fish is fresh and delicate. The service is also excellent. Our waitress Cersei is attentive, friendly, and always ready to ensure a great dining experience. Definitely worth a visit, and I will be coming back for sure!
Open late with great service , Always fresh and delicious quick efficient service , fresh wasabi to Cons They do not offer happy hour I wouldn’t recommend getting things like Shirley Temple as they are not free refills. They charge a whopping five dollars per 8 ounce cup. Always pretty satisfied with the food, but it isn’t on the cheaper side.
Your sign to finally try the restaurant that you’ve always driven by! 🚙 🍣 🐟 We’ve driven past @kenjisushi_sj so many times going to Valley Fair Mall but just never got the chance to try it until now, and wow have we been missing out! 🔥 With a bar, fresh sushi and sashimi, and even hot plates from the kitchen, this is the place to go, especially after a long day of shopping 😉 🛍️
OMG! The best sushi ever. I've never eaten such great sushi before. They were made from fresh ingredients, and I felt so light after eating them. I was impressed with the quality and diverse type of sushi on the menu served in the restaurant. 👌 It was also convenient that the restaurant was open late so my friends and I could have late dinner, and it was a memorable moment in our trip in San Jose.
Recommend this place! Eden and Joseph were super nice, and had great service! We ordered the spicy garlic edamame, mango crunch, and Victoria Secret which were all delicious!
My family and I have been coming here for the past year, and there aren’t words good enough to describe this absolutely amazing restaurant! The servers are always very sweet and helpful when interacting with. This is a very clean restaurant, and the new menus and paying systems are wonderful. The past few times we came here, the calamari (appetizer) wasn’t as good as it used to be, and after we talked to the staff about it they proved themselves so much better with an astonishing new recipe for it! Due to our slight troubles with the appetizer, the extremely sweet servers provided us with 2 chocolate cake slices and 1 mango mochi bowl on the house! My family and I will always come to this restaurant, it’s one of our absolute favorites! Kenji Sushi always has some of the best sushi around, the different flavors and options are super delicious. 10/10 would recommend!!!
As soon as we sat down our server was so funny and friendly ! The food came out so fast and tasted really fresh and flavorful !
Kenji Sushi is an excellent restaurant with great service and atmosphere. The rolls are crafted to perfection and very delicious.
Kenji Sushi is hands down one of the best sushi spots in San Jose. I’ve been here multiple times, and every visit is consistently excellent. The quality of the food is always on point—fresh, hot, and beyond scrumptious. Whether you’re a sushi lover or just trying it out, you will not be disappointed. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of sitting at the sushi bar, which was a perfect experience. It wasn’t crowded, making it feel more private, and the service was incredibly quick. I tried the Noah roll for the first time, and it was an amazing surprise! The seared salmon on top was a unique touch, adding a rich, slightly smoky flavor to the roll. Definitely worth trying if you’re a salmon fan. But, let me tell you about my absolute favorite—the Kamikaze roll. This roll is perfection on a plate. It’s crunchy, has a nice kick to it, and every bite is packed with flavor. I crave this roll every time I visit. Another standout is the Crunch Mango roll. I love to substitute spicy crab with spicy tuna since I can’t eat crab, and it’s just as delicious! It’s a perfect mix of sweet and spicy, a flavor combo that works perfectly together. A must-have dish for me is the Crunch Roll with Spicy Tuna on rice cakes—honestly, it’s addictive. You cannot go wrong with this. The crispy rice paired with the spicy tuna is just the right balance of texture and flavor. Of course, the nigiri and sashimi at Kenji are top-notch as well. They always serve beautifully cut, fresh fish that never disappoints. The proportions are perfect, and you can taste the quality in every bite. We also indulged in the classic Spicy Tuna and Salmon cut rolls - a total score of you enjoy clean sushi flavors. Kenji Sushi is my go-to spot when I want quality sushi and an overall fantastic experience. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for fresh, flavorful, and creatively crafted sushi in San Jose!
Got the nigiri and sashimi combo, Bay Area pricing, can’t say it’s super value, the cuts weren’t exactly what I expected for 60 bucks but, it was fresh and prepped decently. In the bay I think that’s acceptable. The service, however, was absolutely fantastic
Kenji Sushi is absolutely amazing. The fish is incredibly fresh, the rolls are beautifully made, and every bite tastes high quality and well-balanced. The menu has a great variety, from classic rolls to creative specialties, and everything I’ve tried has been consistently delicious. The service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is clean, modern, and welcoming. Whether you’re dining in or getting takeout, Kenji Sushi never disappoints. Highly recommend for any sushi lover!
Kenji sushi is a staple for our family, we have been here 10+ times and the food and service never disappoints. Very vegetarian friendly and they have a vegetarian dedicated page of the menu. Highly recommend the agedashi tofu and tofu bulgogi. Food always comes out quickly and is very tasty. Also walkable from Valley Fair mall
Chose this sushi spot last minute for a date night and I’m so glad we did. The ambiance was amazing—great lighting, great music, and such a welcoming vibe that made the whole experience feel special. The service was excellent from start to finish: attentive, friendly, and never rushed. And the food? Absolutely loved it—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Everything came together perfectly, and it exceeded our expectations. Will definitely be coming back!
Firstly, Gwen, our server, gets accolades and five stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟. She made this luncheon for four senior ladies "over the top!" Handicap parking was so very welcome. We didn't arrive until 1:15. The lunch crowd was gone. The menu is beyond outstanding. Each of us ordered something different. We shared... A delicious seared salmon mango salad, Salmon teriyaki with rice and salad, Seafood udon noodle soup. We topped it off with cheesecake. If we didn't live 40 miles from Kenji Sushi, we would eat there at least once a week. We felt welcomed and appreciated by the serving staff. Don't miss this place. You will be delighted!
I had such a great experience here! The sushi was fresh and beautifully prepared easily some of the best I’ve had. The service was great! The staff were attentive, friendly, and made me feel welcomed from the moment I walked in! Everything came out quickly, and I left feeling completely satisfied. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending this spot to others! The ice cream was definitely a plus! (:
On Winchester Avenue, Kenji Sushi is just across the street from Santana Row but it shouldn’t be ignored. Even on a busy Friday night, they’re seating you almost immediately and reasonably quick with the food and drink. The pork and vegetable fried gyoza are good - as you would expect. Highly recommend the exotic rolls - the Ultimate Shrimp (shrimp tempura and cucumber inside, Kani and shrimp outside) and the Victoria Secret roll (tuna, salmon, yellowtail in soy paper with avocado and ponzu sauce). Both substantial in size and not overplaying the rice. Don’t forget the crispy rice with spicy tuna appetizer. While it’s a large piece of crispy rice, you get just as much tuna, so it’s a perfect proportion. Solid sushi restaurant. Will come back!
We recently visited Kenji Sushi and were thoroughly impressed. We ordered four rolls—By The Sea, Spider Roll, Ultimate Shrimp, and Vegetable Caterpillar—and each one showcased the restaurant’s attention to detail and fresh ingredients. • By The Sea was beautifully balanced, with delicate flavors of sashimi-grade fish and a light, refreshing finish. • The Spider Roll was a standout—crispy soft-shell crab wrapped perfectly, with just the right amount of spice and crunch. • Ultimate Shrimp delivered on its name—rich, savory, and generously filled, it was a crowd-pleaser. • The Vegetable Caterpillar was not only visually stunning but also satisfying and creative, with fresh avocado and roasted vegetables that didn’t feel like an afterthought. The ambiance was modern yet cozy, and service was attentive without being overbearing. Overall, a fantastic experience—we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend if you’re looking for high-quality sushi with inventive options.
They served us very well, and the sushi was excellent. Certainly better than the rating would suggest!

DD Ordered hamachi and amberjack sashimi, tempura mix and unagi sushi. Fish was very fresh, very delicious. Tempura was crisp. Presentation was very good too!
Good quality sushi, a variety of tastes. Good beer :) The mochi for desert was ok, but I would expect some fresher cream. the strawberry was good, green tea a bit dull. They had no mango... Most of the rolls were regular. Good, but regular. But some rolls were amazing, such as the Crunch Mango which was amazing. I would highly recommend this restaurant, but would consider getting recommendations from the staff, because those were the best rolls we had. Those we picked without special recommendation were average.
Delicious miso soup served hot and plentiful! Shared a large warm saki and enjoyed w/Sapporro. I ordered my go to, philly roll and tried their spicy mango roll which were both delicious. My husband had the spider roll which was a bit more interesting and a tempura shrimp roll that were both from the higher priced menu but enjoyed the simpler rolls.. especially the Philly. Better than average sushi establishment, nice patio seating w/heating, and good ambiance.
We tried Kenji Sushi for the first time, and we were pleasantly surprised. I don't normally eat sushi, but their combinations were suitable to things I would actually eat! We had egpplant rolls, king crab rolls with soy paper, and langoustine rolls. Everything was delicious, even after being delivered. We will definitely be enjoying their food again soon! ❤️
Stand alone restaurant located across the street from Santana Row along Winchester Blvd. Large selection of dishes to choose from, all are fairly common, ranging from cooked rice dishes to sushi including specially rolls. It's not gourmet, but was very tasty. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Prices are a little on the high side.
Pretty good lunch for a Sunday. Unfortunately our hot tea was cold, we asked to warm it up then it was way too hot and then the fried sushi rolls were extremely hot. Soy sauce was salty wish they have low sodium on the table. The udon beef was super good loved the flavor and the service was good
Was a bit puzzled when the hostess asked if i had a reservation and when i said no, she asked me to put my name down on wait list, and gave us a table 5 seconds later? Lively place with solid sushi and rolls. Good service. Kids meal portion is huuge for $10 and could easily feed an adult.
In A Nutshell: -Kenji Sushi has been around for long time now. -There's a good reason it has still stayed in business & it's simply b/c they serve really good sushi at reasonable prices in a nice venue. -I've eaten here multiple times over the course of the years, but I feel slightly ashamed for not reviewing them until now. -The most recent meal ordered was their sushi moriawase, deep fried oysters & soft shell crab. -The entire meal was very satisfying w/ enough to bring home as leftovers. Overall, if you want a nice sushi meal, make sure you grab it here.
Rice is everything and it was too dry and thick here. The fish was good but it was spoiled by the underwhelming rice. Service was awkward. Not a smile from the server until the check came and she was more robotic and obligatory than really sincere. Anyhow, I wasn't impressed especially as the poor value made this meal unworthy.
Good was good, over priced but good. The calamari was 5 stars! The sushi was 3.5 stars. The chicken katsu was 5 stars, the miso soup was 3 stars. Service was great at the beginning. After we ordered, it got busy and we had to ask multiple times for water, lemon, and the check, might have been short staffing, but there were plenty of workers around, just only half of them working.
I had lunch here and it did not disappoint. The food was flavorful. I had a bento box that had plenty of food in it and left me feeling quite full. The quality of the sushi roll and the teriyaki chicken was very good. The waitress was extremely friendly and helpful in ordering and kept our hot tea filled.
Food: The sashimi and sushi rolls are very fresh, which is the key of fish dishes. The rice in the chirashi is a bit too sticky and warm yet the flavor is perfectly balanced with the vinegar as it should be. Mystery house is very very good. The crunchiness of cucumber and shrimp tempura is well balanced with the sashimi and avocado on the top! Service: The staff is quite busy so hard to get their attention after you ordered. They come by very frequently when you’re still getting ready to order though. Ambiance: nice and quiet. Dating, family or friend gatherings are suitable. The day we went is a bit stuffy as it seemed their A/C is out of order.
Sushi restaurant just across the street from santana row. Writing this review late so don't remember the names of what we ordered. Sushi was overall fresh and well assembled but definitely comes in on the pricey side. Expect your favorite rolls to be around 1-2 dollars more expensive than other locations. The octopus karaage was very good.
Place is really nice and Very good food! Restaurant it's self and Bathrooms were clean as well. Although there are 2 reasons for the 4/5 ⭐ review, 1. Broken Chair, We had just sat down in our chairs but my Dad's chair he sat on was about to break so we asked the waiter if he could switch chairs WHICH THEY DID and were very nice about it. 2. Walls, The walls were painted in a nice gray color but a part of the wall by the back bathrooms below a window was chipped pretty badly in multiple places of that little area. Overall I will most likely come back with my family!
Kenji sushi has a large amount of items to choose from. The sushi was delicious and the restaurant was popping with people and good vibes. The rolls we ordered were delicious. This is a nice spot to come and enjoy some fresh rolls and drinks with your family or friends. Just be careful when parking or leaving. Since it’s a small parking lot. Its definitely a tight squeeze. Make sure to order yourself a mocktail and some appetizers while you’re waiting for your rolls, sashimi or your main dish. I suggest order some takoyaki. All in all its a decent place thats not overpriced.
We ordered Octopus karaage, Jalapeno Bomb, king Crab Roll and Alaska Roll. We loved the karaage most and Jalapeno bomb was good too. But the rolls were not as expected, would rate them below avg. Staff and restaurant environment were standard. Parking might be issue specially during weekend nights.
Kenji is a solid sushi spot in San Jose with fresh, well-prepared sushi and a chill, modern vibe that makes it a great place to hang out with friends or enjoy a casual date night. The fish quality was great, and the presentation was on point. However, the service could use some improvement. While the staff was polite, the wait times were a bit longer than expected, and we had to ask more than once for a few basic things. Nothing major, but with smoother and more attentive service, this place could easily be a five-star experience.

We enjoyed dinner at Kenji sushi which was very good. We both enjoyed saki. For our dinner we both had their chirachi sushi - which was very good. Fish is very good - all was good, but we …
This is a very cute restaurant. I lived the lounge and got to eat dinner in a cute comfy chair. The waiter wasn’t as helpful as I’m newer to sushi. We started out with calamari and fried dumplings. They were delicious. It was the largest calamari rings I’ve ever had. Then I had some yummy yummy miso soup. I highly recommend. Then we had California roll which was yummy. The mango crunch had overall great flavor but the fish was too slimy. I have had raw salmon before and it wasn’t slimy.
We were looking for something to eat during the Thanksgiving Holiday and were glad to find this place open! They had a wide selection of sushi rolls. The sushi was not bad, but the flavors were a bit too overwhelming for me. I had to eat some pickled ginger to cleanse my palate and reset the taste. It's a bit pricy at around $20 per roll, though the portion was decent.
Bottom line, don't come here for nigiri. The rolls are pretty good. Drinks seemed fun and not too watered down. Given the average rating, my expectation was higher. My first bite of nigiri was quite good, very fresh and tender. Unfortunately, every bite after was a disappointment, lacking freshness, or having unbalanced flavors. I wonder if the current rating is inflated by their offer for free food if you give them 5 stars.
Came in the day after Christmas. They were pretty busy, we waited about 10min to be seated. After that the wait time to order was on par and the service “being under staffed” was actually ok. One thing that I did not like was Wifey had to wait 10 minutes after I received my food before she got hers. “This is a huge NO NO in my book” everything must arrive at the same time people! Wifey’s fish was dry, I ordered a Philadelphia roll and a Dragon roll. Both I thought were good but priced on the high side for what they gave me. Bottom line, there are plenty better places out there for the price and quality. I’m not a fan. 4.2 stars on Google “my ass”
Staff was nice. But this isnt a sushi restaurant. It's a Japenese style Denny's with high prices. We had two 20 dollar rolls and a teriyaki dinner. Nothing had flavor, the beef was cold and very fatty.
This used to be my go to place for Sushi but I am not going there again. We ordered a Sushi and in every single piece there were huge pieces of some sort of paper. On one of the pieces I would have understood that it might have fallen, but on entire roll was surprisingly. Staff was polite to offer replacement which we declined and returned the existing plate. However, they still billed us for that as well paper-filled-Sushi. We had to discuss with manager to get it removed at the end.
My husband & I were frequent customers here until after tonight. We were sat in a rush then ignored for about 10-15 minutes before the host practically begged the lead waiter to take our order beca…
Bartender is cool and friendly. Server was headless and emotionless like a robot. Please don't order the beef buldogi in this place. They charge more and 80% of the dish is just vegetable and no beef. It is an entrée of sadness not beef. 😔
The waiters have immense difficulty understanding our orders. Almost every time I go to this restaurant I get frustrated because the order arrives wrong. When I'm in the restaurant, this is tolerable, but when I order takeout and see it after I get home, it's extremely frustrating. Even if you pay for another order, I go hungry at home and I never want to go back to this restaurant. Improve your service.
Birthday dinner that started strong but ended in frustration. The appetizers were good, which led us to order an entrée. After that, the wait became excessive. Our server changed, items were cleared without the entrée arriving, and we repeatedly heard “it’s coming” with no explanation or timeline. The initial offer of 20% off the entrée we were still waiting for did not address the experience. After continued discussion, 50% off the check was offered, and eventually the meal was comped. I appreciate the final resolution, but the core issue was not cost. It was the lack of communication and respect for our time. Especially on a special occasion, that matters. The food has potential. The service and ownership need improvement.
