Such a beautiful and intimate atmosphere inside of Hotel Puerto Valdés. Our server was amazing and super attentive, and everything came out perfectly timed. The Chorizo Argentino appetizer was so juicy and paired perfectly with the chimichurri—highly recommend! We loved everything about the restaurant. Definitely a great pick to celebrate our first night in San Juan 😊
The BEST highest quality food you will try. I had the Ribeye, the meat melts in your mouth, it is the best steak I have ever had. My boyfriend had the Pulpo and he was saying how hard it is to make and he had to congratulate the chef, it was that amazing. They also give you a complimentary soup in an expresso cup and it was delicious, that’s when I knew the food would not disappoint. The chef is so talented and our server was so amazing, he kept checking on us and would explain everything with such care and passion. This is the best food I have eaten not only in PR but in my hometown.
Enjoyed a special dinner our last night in San Juan. Superb service from Dylan utterly delicious salmon, branzino, and grilled veggies. Recommend!!
A small, intimate food dining experience! It felt like we were dining at a farm to table restaurant. The Natalio cheese and smoked chorizo dish was out of this world. We had delicious courses throughout. Porterhouse steak with mash was the perfect main. Caramel desserts and chocolate mouse with a hot espresso tied the meal together perfectly.
Small quaint spot,, you may have to walk upstairs as the elevator is finigy!! But the steak is amazing!! Cooked to absolute perfection. Janny's suggestions were on point! The food does not disappoint, and it's complimented by great service!
We are staying at Hotel Valdes and decided to try the restaurant located on the 4th floor. Whether you are a local or a tourist, you should give it a try and you will not be disappointed. Over 2 nights, we enjoyed Filet Mignon prepared to perfection medium as ordered and mushroom risotto plus a vegetable side dish. All were delicious. The empanadas were the best I have ever had. My complements to the chef!! The appetizer sampler was delicious as well. They have a fabulous wine selection but we opted for shots of Monkey Shoulders and Chivas Regal 12 year as well as a manager recommendation Orange Apersol cocktail. Desserts to try include Crème Brûlée and a Crepe dish with caramel and ice cream. You’ll enjoy a nice view of the bay where the cruise ships dock. Special shoutout to or server, Alexis who made sure we had everything we needed. Tell your friends!! You will love this restaurant!
Yani took care of my wife and me for our birthdays, and she was wonderful. We got our reservation on Open Table, but there was plenty of seating when we arrived. We went on a Thursday, so we excepted it to be a bit busier, but wasn’t. This place is a hidden gem, so that may be why there wasn’t a big crowd. I don’t expect it to be slow much longer. The ambiance was low lit and smooth, with soft music playing in the background. Great for an intimate date night. Yani greeted us with a complimentary appetizer. She recommended this wine, which was nice. We got the ribeye steak which was to die for. Buttery smooth and juicy. Best I’ve had in a long time. The whipped mashed potatoes, and vegetable were perfect as well. I’d recommend this place to anyone visiting Puerto Rico, but take a look at the prices before you come. 9.5/10
This was a 10/10. I had the Parpadelle with Alfredo and skirt steak and just wow it was delicious. The staff were great and gave us a free app and a free dessert on the way out. I would come back to PR just to have this food again.
I loved the service, the waiter was very attentive even though the restaurant was full. The restaurant is small, but cozy. The food was delicious, definitely we come back!
WOW WOW WOW. The entire experience amazing. Everything was delicious. My parents ordered the porterhouse and it was exceptional, juicy, thick… the presentation was beautiful. They ordered it with a side of risotto the best amount of creamy! I ordered the salmon. So exquisite! Salty with a smoky flavor. Accompanied by creamy layered potatoes! Highly recommend it!
We went for dinner to celebrate a birthday. The place is very small and intimate with an open kitchen and perhaps 20 tables. We received an attention from the chef as soon as we sat down. Everything we ate was delicious. We started with the provoleta ( melted provolone cheese), sweetbreads and octopus. We share a rib eye, churrasco and salmon for main with squash risotto, sara salad and creamed potatoes. The best steak and salmon I ate in Puerto Rico, and the sides to die for. For dessert we had the dulce de leche crepes. The wine selection is also very good.
We had Alexis. He was superb. The kids shared the carbonara pasta and loved it. My 12 yr old had the Wagu burger and claimed to be the best he’s ever had. I had the churrasco MR and it was perfect. My wife had the Filet Mignon and fas excellent. Suggestion: the sides are a shareable size for the table. Do not order them for personal sides. Must stop in San Juan.
I love this Steakhouse! Carnes Steakhouse is THE steakhouse here at San Juan! You will not get a better steak elsewhere. We had the porterhouse, ribeye, spinach ravioli, risotto and panqueques and everything was so good! The steaks were seasoned well and cooked to perfection. The staff were very attentive and really went above and beyond. We came for my birthday dinner and they made personal touches that made my birthday dinner really special. I definitely recommend this steakhouse and will definitely cone back here.
We came here on Sunday evening before they closed. What an amazing experience!!! From the staff, to the delicious food, this is definitely a must try if you are in Puerto Rico. Thank you to the chef and the staff who went above and beyond. From the ambiance to all the small touches. If you are looking for five star food and service to match, this is definitely the place for you!
The food was delicious. Highly recommend
Great staff, amazing food and very formal but casual atmosphere
Dwight our waiter was AMAZING ! And the food was great ❤️
This place was awesome, we went for a bachelor party and the service was fantastic. The porterhouse and tomahawk steaks were delicious. Would recommend this place for a fun night out in San Juan
Best Argentinean Churrasco steak I've had! The fact that they make it in a kamado style ceramic grill makes a huge difference. Loved everything about our dinner. Finishing off our evening with the best bread pudding. Absolutely loved the vibe, service, and food. Even with the lights going out, it didn't make a difference. It made it much more memorable. I would definitely go back.
We came here for a matter of convenience and we end up having an amazing evening. The quality of the service and the taste of every single dish will make anyone come back again. The service was not only extremely professional but also kind and eager to answer or assist us. Come to Carnes and you will find an staff ready to make your happiness their mission. Special thanks to Stevens and chef Luis Castro for an excellent treatment and exquisite dinner.
Our group of 13 had a great time. Our waiter was a super nice guy. Steaks were phenomenal. Highly recommend!
Amazing food and amazing chef! Definitely a must try when you are in PR in San Juan!
Trying to find a steakhouse for one of our last meals in San Juan. Sometimes spots in a hotel might seem touristy. Not this place. I have eaten all around the world and I can honestly say this was one of my favorite meals. Great wine pairings. Truffle potatoes, Caesar salad and Tomahawk steak were to die for. The service was over the top good, small quaint kitchen right next to the tables made it feel even more intimate.. if you don’t eat here you are missing out. Happy heart. Gracias!!!!
Unbelievably good service and the food was incredible. I have been to steakhouses all over the world and this is the best one I have ever been too. Our server Alexis made excellent recommendations and the presentation of the food alone was outstanding. Must come to Carnes again!
Carnes steakhouse has the best steak I’ve had in Puerto Rico and possibly in the United States. The meat is prepared to perfection using their own unique way that you won’t find anywhere else on the island. It feels casual but it’s fine dining at its best. Good wine selection and great service.
Food, service and atmosphere were all amazing. Highly recommend eating here. Will definitely come back next time we're in San Juan.
Excellent steaks and appetizer. Beautiful view and great service. Unique preparation and presentation of steaks as well.
Ok…. Don’t look for anything else. Best steak house in Puerto Rico. Full stop !!! Give a rise to the chef Jahz Manuel
Dylan and Josh Manuel were great! Highly recommend. Food and service were great!
One of the best filet mignon I have ever had. The mushroom risotto was simply the best I have ever had and the empanadas were also top notch.
We had a wonderful experience at Carnes Steakhouse. We had a party of 12 celebration dinner. The atmosphere is very comfortable, intimate and has a great view. Several of us ordered different types of steak, Salmon and Chicken. Everyone was very happy with the presentation of the meal and the taste was great. Dylan was our server and was very attentive to our needs. We would definitely return again and again. Highly recommend
This place is nothing but 5 stars!! Their salmon with creamy mashed potatoes was so good. Such a simple dish but made so well, it was very fresh and all dishes are made to order. My boyfriend got the chicken Alfredo and it was so good/well seasoned that he had to take one home. Next time we visit Puerto Rico this is somewhere we must return to!
The food and service were outstanding. The chef, Paxx, personally visited our table, and we had the pleasure of hearing about his impressive journey. From being featured in Food & Wine magazine to earning a James Beard Award nomination for Best new Chef in the South, his passion for culinary excellence truly shines through in every dish. The experience was fantastic, and I can’t wait to return soon.
Dinner was fantastic. Great quality steak. Diego and the rest of the staff were very attentive and checked in on my table often. Would recommend and revisit.
The food was Amazing!!! Go at least an hour before you are hungry, but expect to experience the Best steak of your life!! Strongly suggest a reservation, because it is very small. Think of the movie The Menu… can Not say enough about the food, truly some of the best I have had in my nearly 50 years of life!
my boyfriend and I had valentines dinner here and it was spectacular from beginning to end. The food was amazing, the view from the windows were amazing, it really made our night unforgettable. Everything that we ordered, we enjoyed. I only wish that we were able to get dessert which they had ran out of.
My partner and I recently visited a boutique hotel on a soon-to-be-developed area and dined at the hotel's rooftop restaurant, which had a great view. The restaurant itself was small with an open kitchen and a balcony for the BBQ. The food was fantastic! The appetizers, including Provoleta, sample table, empanadas, and chorizos, were outstanding. The main courses, churrasco, and Ribeye, were superb! The quality of the meat was high. The desserts were perfect as well. However, the only issue we had was that the food was served on a hot plate with charcoal, and the term grew, ended up being well done halfway through the meal. The service was decent, and the waiter was attentive, always coming to the table and giving a 100% effort. The chef even came to the table three times, which was really valuable. The wine list was good, but the waiter had no knowledge of wines, and we couldn't decant the wine. Nonetheless, we had two great bottles of wine, mostly an Argentinian wine selection. Overall, we had a great experience dining at this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone looking for delicious food and a lovely ambiance.
Impressive place, small but cozy. The waiters seem to be his first working experience in the high or gourmet food industry. They tried to do his best, but the lack of experience won. The food is excellent, somewhat expensive, but superb.
The 4 courses were excellent, however the skewers were not warm enough. The Meat was on a perfection level complemented with a light risotto. The sinful cheesecake with berries wasn't big, but enough for me and most people and done to perfection 👌! Lady hostess Yani was very warm and attentive to us and details and our Waiter Dillon (even though was not experienced) was very attentive and friendly. We came to visit on New Years Eve (first time) to this boutique Hotel & Restaurant and will definitely coming back !!
Our hostess, Yani, was sweet. She made sure my husband and I had a pleasant and gratifying New Year's Eve dinner. As for our amicable waiter, Dillon, he was attentive during the meal. Regarding the food, even though the skewers were not served at their expected warm temperature, they had good seasoning. However, the filet mignon and the risotto were heavenly exquisite. And for the finale, I intentionally left room for the dessert (cheesecake with blueberries) which unfortunately was too small of a sinful bite. The overall dining experience was excellent. The ambiance was elegant and inviting. We most definitely plan on returning with our Argentine friends.
A neat, open kitchen setup that allows one to see the cooks, smell and hear the sounds as food is being cooked. Jazz music in the background made it very pleasing for ordering a bottle of red. The waiter seemed in a hurry while explaining and taking our order but we just chucked it to lack of employees. We were gonna order separate steaks but were persuaded into choosing a tomahawk steak for the table. It was a special occasion and one likes to think that the waiter of a “fine” restaurant knows best. You see, funny thing about an open kitchen is that you can actually watch the cooks take a frozen tomahawk in a plastic bag and put it in water while you sip your wine. With your eyes you can follow that tomahawk from the sink water to the barbecue green eggs out back. Looking around to see others with tomahawks made me feel like this meat was being pushed for quick sale. Steak showed up at a reasonable time but it was lacking flavors, maybe some weight and too much frill. Potatoes were decent, a bit salty. When the plates were cleared, the wooden tablet left a puddle of grease that was wiped down with a nasty rag and left a film of grease for us to look at. I fingered the word “CLEAN” on the table . Lol. Come on guys…. That nasty rag made me curious of the ones the cooks were using in the kitchen in front of me.
Upon entering it was a cool ambiance to have an open expo/ kitchen where you can see your food being cooked and attended to. At night time if you happen to sit next to the window it has a great view of the farris wheel lit up at night. Unfortunately there was a miscommunication with our order this night which really affected the service and food preparation. We had ordered a Porterhouse where our server even repeated back to us. Few moments later the Chef came over to ask how our salad (Sara) was which was a great refreshing start. But he asked about our order and had verified it was incorrect, where they then proceeded to get it correct. Unfortunately due to the issue, delay there was poor quality control. Once the Porterhouse cooked we were severed 2 cold sides Potatoes and roasted vegetables. The Porterhouse was even under cooked (rare) when asked to be cooked medium. Yes it is served on a hot plate so I had to butterfly some pieces of the steak to get our cook somewhat right. At the end we didn’t eat much of our sides but did enjoy the porterhouse. Ran out of the dessert(Berry compote). But was given a Thank you loaf (Pound cake). Then our check was delivered incorrectly. Thankfully my wife checked or I would have paid for it. Overall too expensive for quality and service that was given.
Food was great. This steakhouse uses charcoal ceramic grills in a room adjacent to the dining room. The door was opened frequently, letting lots of charcoal smoke in. I would not go back for this reason.
$10.00 for a bottle of water $23.00 for one chicken leg accompanied with instant mash potatoes from a box. 45 min wait time. No napkins provided. There are plenty of better options..!!!
Did not have cocktails or white wine. The red wine selection was limited and extremely expensive (over $250). The octopus was good but the meat was not great. The kitchen is exposed and you can listen to the dishwasher running while you eat. When we ordered dessert, they didn’t have ice cream. Just go somewhere else.
Came for our 10th anniversary dinner while on vacation. First my wife ordered a drink, only for the waiter to say they were out of that drink, then I ordered a drink, guess what, all out. So we order our steaks, but again, all out of the side my wife wants. At this point she is ready to walk out, then the waiter comes back and tells her they are also out of the cut of steak that she ordered. 10 year anniversary dinner and everything my wife wanted was answered with a no. She is in tears because our special night is ruined. Avoid this place.
We decided to go for New Year’s Eve because they didn’t have a prix fixe menu. At least it wasn’t promoted anywhere, and I looked at their socials. But when we arrived, we were told that we had a choice of the “New Year’s” prix fixe menu with a set price or their regular menu, which we preferred and decided to sit down. Soon after, we were told that the chef couldn’t do the “à la carte” menu and only the prix fixe menu was available, to which we agreed since it would’ve been difficult to get another reservation at that time on New Year’s Eve and with the majority of the island without electricity. The menu included a kids option at $25, but when asked, the waiter didn’t know what it was and had to ask the chef. Only two options were available, at more than $10 more than the options for kids in the regular menu. So we made our selection and tried to make the best of the evening. The menu included a bottle of sparkling wine, which we had to ask for since we weren’t offered any drinks after our first courses we brought. Sadly, it was at room temperature and not enjoyable. The first course was only one dish, which we thought had to be shared. Shortly after, the same dish was brought, but this time it was two dishes, which we told the waiter that we had already received one, so she took away one dish and left the other. Only one course for the child menu, by the way. So they brought our kid’s dish, which she didn’t like, and when asked for the other option given for the kids menu, we were told that it wasn’t available because the fryer hadn’t even been turned on. At that point, it was obvious that everything in the evening was being improvised and hadn’t been organized whatsoever. When we asked for the check, the full price for the kids menu was being charged, expecting it included other dishes because it was more than double the price on the regular menu. It definitely ruined the evening and obviously won’t be returning.
The most disappointing steak house ever, ordered a medium well, came out well done, then I had them make a new one, it came out practically raw. Additionally, the steaks seemed to be from a pre packaged, pre-marinated sources similar to Olive Garden, there seemed be no searing like a steak from a grill. Not worth $68 for a ribeye.
The restaurant is pretty and there is where the magic stopped. The menu completely misleading with the pictures and the pricing: 16oz Ribeye $69 but is really a 12oz steak, a mistake in the menu according to the server, 4 beautiful fluffy pancakes $24 in the menu but 2 Crepes like pancakes arrived to the table. The service at no point matched the style and concept of the restaurant; slow service, lack of menu knowledge and not much awareness of the table needs: we had to ask for the refills constantly and even for a spoon to share the risotto which by the way was the best item we tried. We got there at 1pm, we were the only table in the restaurant almost until dessert time and with all the inconveniences we did not even see management in the place. Cute place in need of urgent leadership.
We were very disappointed when we TRIED to dine here. We booked a reservation for New years eve since we wanted to stay in the hotel. Upon arrival when we got seated we were informed we could not have any pasta item on the menu since they had the pastas but no sauces???!!!! We went there specifically for that since we had been having a lot of Puerto Rican food with meat. How can they be so unprepared for New Years eve? Perhaps they just wanted to sell their pricier steaks. They could not even offer Risotto. We were not impressed!
