Opinions de Oscar's Mexican Food San Marcos
Very authentic Mexican food. Open 24 hours. Salsa bar and cervezas. Not high-end dining, just great food.
This is my chosen Mexican food place after leaving San Ysidro. Best place in San Marcos no doubt. They are always very kind and remember me by name. Their customer service is 10-10, I recommend the chile relleno burrito, its always good.
I love the rolled tacos and horchata here! I also love that it's open 24 hours. The red sauce is really good as well.
Original, super delicious Mexican joint for some good late night grub. The carne asada is cooked to perfection, the veggies fresh and guacamole perfectly spicy. The horchata is also refreshing and delicious. I'm looking forward to trying more and returning again!
Only hit the drive thru but they are fast, portions are solid and it's always hot. Open 24hrs as well. Good spot
I have lived in San Diego since 2018 and this place is BY FAR the B E S T Mexican food I've had here. The tortillas are EPIC, the portions are HUGE, the staff is always friendly and the quality is ALWAYS ON POINT No matter if it's 2am or 3pm IT'S ON FIRE!! Thank you Oscar's!
Nothing facy but the food is solid! My burrito is huge and packed with meat from the first bite to the last. Fast food restaurant and there's no waiter serving except bringing the food to you. Servicing people are friendly and patient. I will go back again.
The carnitas in general are very good but the carnitas burritos here are delicious. Shrimp burritos are also very good but beware they put rice in them which I dont like. Also the rolled tacos here are the best in the area. Their carne asada has improved. 24 hrs is great, I can always count on Oscars. Their pretty fast too although their can be a long line sometimes.
Ok California burrito. Girlfriend liked her fajita burrito. Atmosphere was ok. Service was adequate. Not sure I will repeat
I went through the drive-through and the guy could NOT understand me. I asked for a side order of Rice & Beans and when I got home & opened up the container I said “What the heck is this??” It was a bunch of French fries with refried beans on it. It looked like someone took a poop in the container because that’s not what I was expecting. But…. I have to admit that it was good - lol. I also ordered a carne asada taco and the meat was in cubes. Usually anywhere I order this it’s shredded not cubed. It was odd and made me feel odd about eating it. But it wasn’t bad.
I've given this taco shop a few chances But I've experienced a bad smell on the meat on the carne asada fries then the bacon breakfast burrito $15 was super thin and more potatoes than anything Really don't think it'll be my spot for Mexican food.
This review only reflects my breakfast experience as Im a breakfast burrito kind of guy and often try them out between destinations traveling. The burrito is sizable because of the tortilla but not really packed with ingredients. Its got some egg a reasonable but on the light side amount of cheese but way too much potato filler and a disproportionately small amount of protein for a $13 entree. Photo illustrates it best. It was filling but for a sit down restaurant its a bit lacking in service and I could have just as well ate this in my car and enjoyed it the same. I won't be stopping by the next time I'm along this route.
I grew up in San Marcos, Oscar's was always a family favorite, we loved the rolled tacos, carne asada fries, and carne asada nachos, recently I've noticed the portions have changed, its alot smaller now, for more expensive. One time I had ordered carne asada fries and asked them to not add guacamole and she comfirmed, when I got to the window, the lady took my payment and I asked her if they did it how I asked, she said she couldn't remember and for me to check the bag which I did and sure enough it had guacamole, she rolled her eyes because I asked her to change it, I even apologized for their mistake, they did give it back to me quickly but its happend where they forget things. Today I went over because I was craving a tamale, ive never tried their tamales so I ordered 1 chicken which was $3.50. I couldnt feel anything inside the plastic container so I opened it to my surprise. It was a small teeny tiny, burnt, hard, cold, dry tamale. I was shocked and decided to write this review. As a life long customer really sad to see this is how they do their people. I've spent alot of money through out the years and love to support small family businesses. But wow! I just couldn't believe $3.50 for this. Please don't do this anymore Oscar's. It was the worst. I should of gone inside and showed them but didn't, please pay attention to what you're feeding your customers.
I saw this restaurant while traveling through San Marcos and decided to try it. I'm always looking for a great new spot when in town, sorry to say I was disappointed. It was nothing special, it is super basic. The grade and quality of the meat as well as the seasoning just didn't hit. I ordered a carne asada burrito, a quesadilla and a side of beans. I took two bites of the burrito and was done. The beans were too salty, but I did like the fact that they weren't completely blended. The quesadilla was the smallest I've ever had, like they were short on cheese. The salsa wasn't good either, like someone just took tomatoes and chile and blended in a blender. The meal was definitely not worth the cost.
This place is ok, I try something different almost every time i come here after work and every time i come away dissatisfied, their food is just plain bland, heres a pic of my breakfast burrito made with boiled potatoes, old bacon and half an egg sprinkled with some old cheese. The salsas are good so if you like drowning your food in hot sauce then this place is for you. Oh the horchata is 5 star.
Oscar’s has always been my go to place for lunch. But lately the food has gone down hill while the prices continue to go up. ($1.99 for extra sour cream. I can buy 8oz of sour cream at the store for that). And they get your order wrong more often than not. Yesterday 1-13-2026 I got a shrimp burrito no rice extra cabbage. Drove 2 minutes back to my office and started to eat. My burrito was ice cold. The shrimp were colder than the cabbage. Time to find a new place for good Mexican food.
The worst carne asada nachos that I've had. Chips were stale, guacamole was brown, cheese was just colds shreds, and I paid extra to add pico and they barely gave me any. $16 for mediocre at best. And they put them in the container with 3 compartments, instead of just 1 big one. My husband's California burrito was tiny and $15. Ridiculous!! I remember the days when Oscar's was the spot, this is no longer the case.
Ordered the #22 Chile Verde. A few bites into my meal what I thought was just a tough piece of meat turned out to be a thin piece of metal. Looks like shavings from opening a can. Service was good and food tasted fine from the few bites I had. But I was afraid to eat the rest of my meal. Hope you see my issue with this. Potential choking hazard Not ok. 😑
I come here often on my way home after a long shift at work and have always loved the food and have found the night staff kind and helpful. This is honestly the first time I have had a bad experience, a terrible experience. The service was horrible, very rude young lady at the cash register and the rest of the staff didn’t seem to mind at all when I asked why I was given such bad service this morning. Once I received my food, chilaquiles, they were so spicy I couldn’t eat them. They could’ve at least warned me when I ordered. And the fried egg on top was way over cooked and tasted like they dumped a whole shaker of salt into it. When I brought it to their attention they couldn’t even offer me so much as an apology. I was not rude and I did not raise my voice but I was still treated with no consideration. I am honestly very disappointed and can guarantee that Oscars has lost my business today.
I'm sorry, I hate to put bad reviews but this needs to change. I've been coming here for the last 16 years, this is my go-to place, I ordered the usual carne asada burrito, but this time, the size was about half of what I always get. Very disappointed, I need to find another go-to place. If you look at the picture, it looks like a poquito burrito. I compared it to a teaspoon, yes that's a teaspoon, look at how much tortilla left on other pictures. Sorry, this place is not even worth it now!!!
