Jacob was absolutely amazing. Gave great suggestions. Austin came in and did some amazing tag team, making the service phenomenal. Food was great. I had the Salmon Oscar with Brussels sprouts. Highlight of the dish was the topping on the salmon and the Brussels sprouts (surprisingly). They have dinner and lunch specials so I know I’ll be back. Management was sort of useless but overall the staff does a great job.

Me and my lady came in on a busy Saturday night. Mrs. Michelle served us and it was a fantastic experience. Packed restaurant and we had all our needs and more fulfilled. Highly recommend anyone that goes ask for Mrs. Michelle. Great woman and a pleasure to be around. Plus the food was amazing. We left stuffed! 10/10 would recommend!

Perfectly cooked fatty marbled ribeye, and one of the best mac and cheese on the commercial market. The pork ribs are dry any charred beautifully. (A little A1 steak sauce fixed that right up.) The chicken "was just grilled chicken."

This place was amazing! It was my first time trying this chain. The ribeye was great. Michelle was so nice and sweet and did not rush us at all even though they were about to close in a little less than an hour (I noticed they close at 10 not 11 when I arrived). I didn’t love the chicken tortilla soup but not bad. Loved the brisket queso. Honestly upset I didn’t try this restaurant before. We could tell that the rest of the staff was eager to clean up and go home so I’m honestly so glad I had my first experience with Michelle.

I know it’s a steakhouse, but I absolutely love the chicken, fried chicken and chicken fried steaks!!! And the gravy that comes with that is the best!!!!!

Wowwwwza! I had the top sirloin, loaded sweet potato and green beans. This was the best plate I've had in a long time. The service was remarkable! The wait time was really good for a Friday night at 5pm! Idk what to say guys! Way to go!! If I could give ten stars I would!

Wonderful dining experience w/ my family! Our party sat at the bar and had a full dining experience. The appetizers and main course were timed perfectly and allowed us time to enjoy and not rush or have everything show up at once and overwhelm us. The male bartender (cannot remember his name) was attentive w/o being overbearing and gave top notch service as far as I'm concerned. I had the 12 oz NY Strip Steak prepared medium w/ a baked sweet potato & sweetened butter, it was excellent! Thanks for the great dining experience, I'll definitely be back.

Had an awesome waiter who really knew what he was doing. Best to be starving when you go because it's SO MUCH FOOD. Bacon Mac n Cheese is a must have! It's more on the pricey side but it's definitely a place to visit!

The service here is exemplary. Our waiter came by 8 times and the manager came by twice to clear plates and check on us. We never had to ask for anything. Our party had the Maudeen's Filet, Gulf Coast Steak and Shrimp and the Chicken Laredo. We all left with empty plates. The food was excellent. Definitely going back...Soon!

I was overnighting in San Marcos and staying in a local hotel. I decided to treat myself to a good dinner and picked the Saltgrass Steak house. Which is kind of funny since I didn't eat a steak. I had the chicken. I've always been told that anything besides a steak at a steak restaurant would be terrible. Personally, I thought the chicken was just fine. I didn't go into the main restaurant because I was by myself, so I sat at the bar. I don't drink but I just feel more comfortable sitting at the bar when I'm by myself. The Atmosphere on the in side of the restaurant was wonderful and the people working behind the bar couldn't have been nicer. Just so you know, If you want a table, there was a wait when I was there.

this is literally one of my all time favorite restaurants. i show up at least once every 2-3 weeks it is that good. i might as well become a member too, currently debating on that. the steaks man, the steaks are TOP TIER !!! best steakhouse in my honest opinion. their salads are sooo good too. i ordered a 10oz top sirloin with mac and cheese as a side and wow, saltgrass never disappoints

Recently stopped in again while on business in San Marcos. Enjoyed a good steak, great service and the game at the bar. Wanted to give 5 stars to Jacob as he waited on me last time I was in town and was so nice to family. On this trip he was at the bar for a late dinner - making me laugh and a few new drinks and dessert - made for a good ending to a tough work day. Give this young man a bonus- highly recommend you ask for Jacob!

Excellent lunch service, Great food. Server misunderstood I wanted sweet potato fries and they brought out a baked sweet potato, no problem, manager fixed it right away and took off $ from my bill. Didn’t have to do that but excellent service thank you.

My server, Ally, was absolutely fantastic! This was my first time to Saltgrass, and she did a great job recommending delicious drinks and foods to us. I was really happy with everything I ordered. Fried pickles and peppers were so good! The dipping ranch was delicious. I had 2 drinks, a lemondrop martini and white cosmo, which Ally recommended. I loved both! The Cajun sirloin was seriously delicious, cooked to perfection, crawfish had the perfect amount of heat, Caesar salad was cool and crisp, sweet potato had a beautiful roasted flavor, brussel sprouts were fresh and tasty. 10/10 on everything!

It's sad to say that Saltgrass moved from their other place of business it was a beautiful scenery to see the water for the San Marcos River sad that that view is gone now I had the 12 oz ribeye steak had a lot of fat Scott the manager made up for it thank you so much they made me another steak to go. Add the spinach and kale salad what is a pina colada. Thank you Courtney for being my server you did a great and awesome job. The steak is very juicy my two dogs enjoy the hamburger patty. Can't wait to enjoy my desserts that I got to go as well.

We were celebrating a birthday, and he went above and beyond—clearing the table for our cake, bringing extra supplies, and making sure everyone felt taken care of. It’s not easy managing a large group, but Jeremiah handled it all with professionalism and a warm attitude. Truly appreciate servers like him who make special occasions even better. Would definitely recommend for celebrations and more!

A Birthday Visit Worth Every Mile Today, I made the drive to Saltgrass Steak House in San Marcos to use my birthday reward. I wasn’t feeling my best, but the reward was about to expire—and sometimes, a good meal is just what the soul needs. Years ago, I lived just minutes from a Saltgrass. Now, it’s a bit of a trek. I arrived around 2:25 p.m., well after the lunch rush, and was warmly greeted by a young hostess who seated me exactly as I’d requested. My server, Adrian, came over promptly and helped apply my birthday reward with no hassle. Then something unexpected happened: the manager came over to personally wish me a happy birthday. She addressed me formally—with genuine respect and warmth. It was a small gesture, but it made a big impact. You could tell immediately why she’d been promoted—she radiated hospitality and professionalism. When my meal was ready, it was the manager herself who delivered it. Again, she was gracious and kind—the kind of encounter that makes you feel seen, valued, and honored. I ordered the Wagon Boss Center-Cut Top Sirloin, chicken soup, and a baked potato. Everything was perfectly prepared—comforting, flavorful, and exactly what I needed on a blah-type day. From the greeting to the goodbye, my visit was pure perfection. I’ve been to probably every restaurant in San Marcos and let me tell you the food here is amazing. But that’s not what will be bringing me back. Our server Jared completely perfected the experience for us. He was kind, knowledgeable when it came to the menu, and very professional. The food will bring you back but Jared will make you want to become a regular.

We went to Salt Grass to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. I was reminiscing with my hubby that when we went to Dallas Tx 11 yrs ago we had gone to Salt Grass and I had my first steak there and it was delicious best experience since I really wasn't a steak person and we were celebrating our 10 yr wedding anniversary! Here we were again and Salt Grass didn't disappoint us!!! The atmosphere was fabulous, our server was very pleasant and attentive to us and our food was AMAZING!!! I have my favorite dish chopped steak with grilled onions, mushrooms and the best gravy to die for, a spinach strawberry salad w/vinaigrette dressing which was my first time trying and it was so good!! If you haven't tried that salad what are you waiting for try it the next time you go, trust me you won't be disappointed 😉 oh and of course a baked potato. My hubby of course had to have his steak and it was cooked to perfection with his loaded baked potato. We took our desserts to go which I just had to have there carrot cake and hubby had chocolate cake. They give great portions so I had to bring my food home which was awesome cause I had dinner and got to enjoy twice. We hope to go back to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary but we'll be back before that. 😊 THANK YOU SALT GRASS FOR MAKING OUR DAY GREAT!!

Saltgrass San Marcos at 221 Sessom Drive used to be Peppers At The Falls (worked there a long time ago). Sat outside on a hot weekend day and Saltgrass San Marcos NEEDS TO GET THE OUTDOOR FANS WORKING – ALL OF THEM PLEASE. The fare was indeed good as well as the service. Nashville Hot Sandwich (spicy fried chicken, pickled slaw, homemade bun) - YUM. Parking and access are easy. They are a good family restaurant. When done eating, you should go down to the river and walk along it. Very nice location near what used to be Aquarena Springs where they had a swimming pig, mermaids, a sky-ride and glass bottom boats. Believe it’s owned/managed by Texas State University now (formerly SWT!). I do recommend Saltgrass San Marcos for a good time. They have a good bar and lots of seating inside if you're not into eating outside. Although the eating outside thing lets you hear and enjoy the San Marcos river flowing over the dam just below the outdoor eating area. Good Job Saltgrass San Marcos – Keep It Up! Enjoy.

First time here. Great steaks

4pm informational lunch was delightful...My perfectly cooked and seasoned fried shrimp were as good as any I've had and were nicely paired with garlicy mashed potaroes and refreshing iced tea. The bread looked great but was a bit bland. I cut her sirloin steak, and she remarked that it was a bit overdone...I thought the texture was chewy as I cut it but haven't eaten beef for 45 years or so...The lunch was free so I left a few bucks cash for the hustling waitress and we do plan a return trip to Saltgrass when we can...

Went during the lunch hour and had the lunch time special. Had the chicken fried steak and I should have had a steak instead. The chicken fried steak was chewy, hard to cut, stringy, not the best meat. The crust and the gravy were very tasty.

This is definitely the steakhouse to go to when you want a great steak cooked perfectly. I got the silver porterhouse which as you can see is massive, I took leftovers home and had enough to make my wife and I some awesome philly steak sandwiches!! The fried mushrooms and "rattlers" appetizers were so good.. Will absolutely be back and recommended to everyone.!

Food was great the jalapeños are a must try. But don’t let them sit you next to the KITCHEN DOOR it really sucked having the door open every time the servers came out & maybe ask them to put your child’s food on the same ticket. Apparently my child’s food/ticket was lost so my 4yr old had to wait for her plate while we had our :(

Have visited several times in a small group, a large group or just a date night. The service has always been friendly and they really are nice. But, the food has never been consistent at any one service. We have run the gamut of right orders, missing orders, cold orders, wrong orders. They have always made it right, but if everyone sitting at the table isn't having the same experience it puts a damper on the meal for everyone.

Usually i dont go on weekends because it does get busy. I would go before 5pm during the week or when they open on weekends. The waitress was nice and helpful she would check on us to see if everything was ok. The wait on our food was longer because it was so busy so that was expected. A server by the name of Jake took our drink order and brought us bread and told us that our server would be with us shortly to take our order. 5:13pm our server who never gave us her name finally came to take our order, since we had already known what we wanted when we arrived. We placed our order and we asked for more bread while we waited. At 6pm our food order finally came out. We ate and yet again had to wait for our server to ask for our bill. At 6:36 pm. Kathryn which I had to look at the receipt to know her name finally checked us out. Overall, food was very good and we ate what we came in for. I’d have to see if we come back to this location next time we want Saltgrass. Thank You!

Wasnt the greatest but wasnt the worst just average nothing stood out in the flavor department. The Sweet potato fries were nice but cooked in a shoestring style left me wanting some more. Mac N cheese they use a huge noodle and a very thick cheese sauce. You need to eat this side right away or the cheese will harden with your noodle. TBone ordered medium well but still had way more pink than it should have. The steak itself didn't leave me overwhelmed was just a steak sprinkled with salt pepper fired on a grill top. Was still a nice steak. Loaded baked potato was almost loaded maybe some more bacon and chives would of done the trick. Sour cream was good. Also went with some peached flavored sweet tea. Just do yourself a favor order the regular tea no need for the flavor shot. All in all maybe th 4th best Steakhouse here in town

The medium well done steak was cooked very rare, the brussel sprouts were extreme salty, the Caesar salad was drenched in dressing and the spinach salad was dry, had no dressing at all. Highly disappointed! 😔

It’s pretty damn sad that a Billion Dollar Company serves you a $40 RibEye and at the medium half the steak is uneatable I’ve eaten three different times and yes the steak was terrible. At the least 50% mistake was tendons, pure fat. The thickness was maybe maybe the size of my little finger and thickness it’s just a sad day but more than likely. I’ve eaten my last dinner or lunch at saltgrass. One last thing, while ordering I asked about a salad and she mentioned three. Not till the next day did I find out that I was CHARGED $5 for the salad

Ordered prime rib and then about an hour later, the manager came and said they just served the last slice. So I had to order the ribeye which was good and cooked the way I wanted it. To be fair, we were a group of 19 people. Our waiter and waitress were perfection and always checked on us.

I know they just opened and there are kinks to work out, but it sucked to say the least. The only reason I would consider giving it another try would be because of the service we received at the bar. We started with the range rattlers. They were nothing to write home about, simply a frozen appetizer placed in the deep fryer. They had a distinct pickled jalapeño taste which was not appetizing. We then ordered salads, a wedge and Caesar salad, and those were the best part of the meal! For our entree we ordered Pat’s ribeye. The ribeye was cooked correctly, however we ordered extra seasoning and were given a bottle of seasoning (as you can see in the picture). I’m not really sure why someone would think that it would be okay. How hard is it to put extra seasoning on a steak? For sides we ordered mac n cheese and a baked potato. Both were dry and tasted as if they sat in the window, under the heat lamp, for some time before they were served. I don’t think we’ll be back for some time. Really disappointing!

Went with the kids on a little day trip to San Marcos and ended up here at Salt Grass for lunch. This particular restaurant had great service, but the food was mediocre. Our steaks were not cooked to our liking. I wanted medium, and I got medium rare. My son also asked for his steak to be medium, and he got medium well. He was very dissatisfied. They did make up for it by offering to make him another, but he didn’t want us to wait for him so he just ate what they brought him. Ambience is great, and service is excellent. The Grandbabies loved the brisket in the burger.

Server overworked thus pretty slow. Two of us had non-steak lunches. Both just satisfactory. My filet cooked as ordered. Buttery texture and great taste. None of us could identify the fourth entree. Asked for the ribeye medium. Served a fairly large piece of beef in circumference, less than a quarter of an inch thick. Described after one bite as well done, dried out, tough and tasteless. Should have sent it back but we were on time schedule. Will not return.

After our experience there I don’t think we will be going back. We went with my in laws because we wanted something a little more elevated than Texas Road House, we regretted it. Everything took too long. They took 10min to ask for our drink order, then 10min to bring our drinks, they forgot my father on law order and then brought the wrong drink. They took 10min to bring our salads and then 20min I am not joking to bring our entrees. At this point we were not so hungry anymore. The food was good for the price. We received a semi apology from the manager and he comped my father in law drink but it doesn’t take away that the whole experience was a disaster. The staff was nothing special, especially to see the catastrophic service we were receiving. Definitely needs more training on customer service. Also the building could use more care, it felt dirty. I think they need to update their management team at this location.

We went on a trip to san Marcos,after a long day we decided to stop by saltgrass to get a nice meal. We got our drinks no problem, we got some bread, we were there for about 2 hours and we set the bread all the way to the end of the table so they would take it. A buzzer came took our drinks and gave us a refill. Then later on someone else came and got our dirty plates but not the bread. We order our food. It takes Forever! To get it. After 50 min after ordering we finally get our meal and they weren't even that busy, we do go to saltgrass a lot. The waitress was "nice" until she would turn around and roll her eyes at us. It was not a very pleasant visit. I Also asked for cheese on my broccoli....

We were seated by the bar,the waitress was not attentive at all. After waiting almost an hour for our food,I was brought the wrong thing. My husband wanted me to send it back,but I didn't want to wait another hour for what I originally ordered. I asked for some A-1,but never got it,we were never offered drink refills. The country fried steak was tough,more crust than meat,it was an all around disappointing experience

What happened to this restaurant? It used to be a quality place to go and now such a disappointment. 4 of us went there for dinner: One ordered the chicken tenders and battered shrimp and recieved a grilled pork chop and grilled shrimp 1 ordered the Grilled Pork chop and recieved the bourbon glazed pork chop. They also no longer have the double bone-in chop, they cut it in half and now it's dry because of how thin they are. My wife and I ordered steaks, they were chewy and for $35+, we weren't expecting a jaw exercise routine while eating. The positive, they were cooked to the temps we asked for. When the refill drink arrived, there was a large chip on the top and a crack down the side. Who's the kitchen manager overseeing all of this?? We did bring all this up to the waitress who was very nice and apologetic but we were charged for all the wrong dishes. I brought this up quietly to the manger and said that there was something wrong with all of our experiences and if he looked around the half full (on Friday night) restaurant and if you take our experiences amd multiple it by those they've seated, that could be a lot of mistakes... His replay, "Guess everyone had a bad experience". No apologies, no we'll make it right next time, here's a gift card... no nothing but an inappropriate response.

I ordered my food and waited an hour. It still wasn't done, they weren't even busy. I walked out, will never go back to this location. SHM horrible service.

Don't order DoorDash from this place. They accept the order but then say they aren't accepting DoorDash orders. So you're out the overpriced amount for 3 days while you wait to get your refund from…

No rub on ribs at all, absolutely flavorless threw half the slab away. Queso fresco bland no flavor just melted cheese. My husband's sandwich, they did not even put lettuce, tomatoes, or pickles on it. The whole meal was terrible. I have heard such nice things about them clearly overrated. Wasted my time and money seriously. Ruined my anniversary dinner this weekend.

Fake butter. Gross. For this price give me real dairy not hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Came in for lunch on a Sunday. Very few people in the restaurant. Food took over an hour to be served. When it finally arrived, steaks and ribs we ordered were dry, cold, and over cooked. We were so hungry we ate anyways.

First let me say our Server was great! Everything else …not so much. It took a little over an hour to get our meal and it was not busy in there at all. Food was subpar and missing things that were supposed to be included… Server was great and got what we were supposed to have but it was not a good experience.

It was a terrible experience today. First we waited for the food for a long time. Then the food came out as it was dry. Our waitress was good though. Terrible quality of food.

Had 4 or 5 bites of the steak salad and immediately had to head to the bathroom to vomit. On retrospect, a few things in the salad seemed off. The other meals my family had were ok, but everything is overpriced for the quality. We liked the restaurant when it was on the San Marcos River. We will not be going back to the I35 location.

An overall disappointing experience. I gave myself a night to sleep on the way I felt, and I still feel the same. We felt forgotten and disregarded on multiple occasions. We’ve never had a single bad experience in Bee Cave, but this place in San Marcos is poorly run. The quality of the food was great, but the service was not worth the price we paid. Not that it will matter to the store, but we won’t be visiting again. But I’m sure there are a lot more folks out there not writing reviews that will also just go to Texas Rosdhouse instead of making the mistake of going to this Saltgrass location again.

We recently visited this restaurant while on a business trip. Since we were from out of town, we decided to stick with a reliable choice and chose Saltgrass. The service initially was great, and all of the staff were friendly. As usual, the food was excellent. Although I was disappointed that the crab cakes and Cajun topping were no longer on the menu, my ribeye was cooked perfectly. Our server, Isaac C., was very pleasant. Because I needed two receipts, we asked for our meal to be split into two tickets. I left a cash tip, and my husband added his tip to his credit card. Unfortunately, he accidentally left both the merchant and customer copies of the receipt at the table. The following day, my husband noticed that he had been charged for a higher tip amount than what he authorized. He called the restaurant and spoke with a manager who refused to provide his name and advised us to dispute the charge with our bank. We chose not to dispute the charge because we believe in handling matters directly and honestly. The manager continued to defend the server, stating that the receipt had been signed. We requested a copy of the receipt and even offered to return to the restaurant to review it in person and compare signatures. Our request was denied, and the manager repeatedly insisted that we dispute the charge with our bank instead. This experience was extremely disappointing. While the food and initial service were good, the lack of accountability and unwillingness to investigate the issue left us concerned. We had already tipped Isaac, and the unauthorized increase was both frustrating and disheartening. Please be cautious when visiting this location. It is unfortunate that what began as a positive dining experience ended with concerns about billing integrity. To Isaac C. the server that stole from us, I hope you got what you needed and may karma have mercy on you.
