Opinions de La Cumbre San Mateo
Been coming here ever since I was a kid and have always loved it! Even in college I look forward to coming back to have La Cumbre. Their burritos are always amazing and they have great service; it’s super fast and efficient. We usually order takeout because there aren’t that many spots to sit inside but their outdoor seating is cute!
Wonderful Mexican food place in downtown San Mateo. Located next to the train station, it has a wide variety of burritos, tacos, salads, and other Mexican dishes to choose from. Delicious spicy sauce if you like spicy (green one). Plenty of parking in their own lot, on the street, or in the train station parking lot next door. Not a lot of seats for dining in, but perfect place for take out.
I have found my new favorite Mexican spot! If you like authentic and fresh this is the spot! Right next to the San Mateo train station. I had a freshly made burrito from a very friendly staff. Ambience leans take out but I had a wonderful lunch sitting outside. Highly recommend
The food is good for what it is and the prices are relatively cheap. But most importantly this is a place with history and that makes it a must visit if you're in the area.
I’ve been coming to the BEST BURRITO in the SF Bay Atea for over 20 years now. The BBQ Chicken Super Burritos are my all time favorite. The Duran Family is said to have invented the “Mission Style Burrito” at their San Francisco location and the tradition of fantastic food in more than ample portions carries on into the next century. If you aren’t in the mood for a huge burrito the tacos and plates are delicious too!

Such a great place! Super tasty food and great parking. I go here every time I am in the area.
Ed and his crew always do a great job, I don’t eat burritos anywhere else honestly. Chicken fajita burrito is the best. Never had a bad meal here.

What no tortilla chips? This place has been here for decades and decades. I first ate here in the Mid-eighties. The food is decent and the ambiance is casual. Right next to the train station on busy B street… great location.
Before here, I've had refried beans a handful of times, usually from Taco Bell and a very vague memory of having it from a can... Also from Taco Bell? (I will separately follow up on this strange memory I've just recalled...) The refried beans here are amazing! I really like soft foods and smooth foods, so this hit the mark for me completely. I have come back here twice literally because I was craving their refried beans!! I promise I'm not crazy if you try it too. I've had their nachos, bites of a burrito, and the chicken dinner plate. All pretty good. The nachos especially are HUGE and super delicious. Pair it with a Mexican Coke and you've got yourself a pretty swell Friday night dinner. 🤤

I came here due to my friends’ recommendations and ordered their famous mission style burrito ($12.59) to go. The burrito was unsatisfying. It was nothing special. I find the burritos at Chipotle tasting better than this.

I had high hopes for this place. It looks like it’s well known for the food and burritos but when I went in I saw flies just circling around the dining area around and the tacos I got were not too bad, just lacking in flavor. I feel like there could be improvements to make this place amazing. There’s potentially to obtain greatness and I think it’s possible.
Been going here for 20 years and came back. Atmosphere still great, place to sit outside, free parking, and service was friendly. But now there is no salsa bar and the tortilla of my burrito was cold, rice was bland and pollo was like shawarma crispy chicken.
Today, I found out the prices of the quesadilla's went up around $4 in the last month or so. My jaw dropped. They are now roughly the SAME price as their burritos. And HALF the size. How can a steak Quesadilla be $16.45? An Al Pastor one be $15.45? I have been going here for their quesadillas since forever. Best I have ever had anywhere. Went there for them a couple times on my birthdays, I like them so much. Still miss the LONG LONG gone salsa bar, though. I go there every month or so and grab two or three and save one or two in the freezer, eat the other at work. Well, I used to, anyway. I cannot fathom spending the same price on a quesadilla as a burrito when it is HALF the size. Maybe I'll go back someday. Maybe on a Birthday. Bums me out. Price point-meet reality.

Famous chicken burrito past it's prime. So little meat, almost no taste. Get tacos instead so you can taste the meat?

So sad that they don’t have chili colorado anymore. I hadnt eaten here in years, and this was my first stop after my flight. I was so excited to get my usual, but alas no chili colorado. So I got carne asada, which was grisly, and the cheese wasnt even melty. They also didn’t have the salsa bar anymore.

This ranks as the worst Mexican food joint I have ever been to. I ordered a super quesadilla, and I received a burrito and not even a full meal. The food was horrible, the cleanliness was terrible, and I am not sure what the hype is all about here. I will never return here ever again. However, people are free to make up their mind. I did not like, but that does not mean others will not. Please make your own judgement, but my judgement is clear. Good luck La Cumbre!
***DONT COME HERE***This is probably honestly one of the worst restaurants in the area. THE PORTION SIZE IS PATHETIC! This is claimed to be a super shrimp burrito. I don’t know if I left the United States for 20 years or what but a super burrito should be the size that is twice the size of your hand. It should be enough to fill you stuffed and then have leftover the next day. This place is so stingy with their portion and is not at all worth $14. Go down the road to LA CORNETA in Burlingame and you get a way better deal for your money. Will never return and recommend that you don’t support this place. Don’t support places that give small portions, the more you support the smaller portions over the years they will give.
Bad service, no customer service oriented at all. $4.00 per taco, cold tortillas, full of beans and literally 7 small pcs of meet. You have the opción for the tip minimum 20% they don’t even give you and eye contact. I wasted 40.00 but learned not to give tip in advance and negotiate comeback to this place.
Used to be good place they don't put any meat in the burrito this is the pic of a deluxe chicken burrito you be the judge. That's one half of the burrito.

Scam- prices they show on their board are not what they charge you. Beware, watch the register
I ordered a steak burrito, which came out to around $20. There was barely any meat—the so-called burrito was mostly filled with lettuce, which was not appetizing. You’re better off going to Chipotle. The older woman at the cashier was also unkind when I asked for spicy salsa.
