Flavorful Thai food! The combination is a great deal. You can choose two items that come with rice and salad on the same plate. Other foods in the menu is very good, too, like Pad-Thai, Tiew Gang (noodle curry soup), Som-tam (green papaya salad), Pineapple Fried Rice, etc.
Their Pad See Ew is just right. It's hard to find a Thai restaurant in Marin that makes Thai food like the San Francisco staples but if you like Osha Thai, Ploy, Marnee , or Khan Toke in SF then you will like this place.
Fantastic food. Definitely going back.
Great waiter suggested a DELISH Red Curry for newbies; super creamy and non-spicy, with bits of tender beef and vegetables! 10/10 do recommend
Really delicous Thai food, lots of options and they have duck! The service was top notch as well.
Some of the best thai food I've ever had. Clean environment and friendly staff. Love this place!
Delicious vegan and vegetarian options with great staff. I have taken so many of my frens and family and everyone loves this place.
Calgang Thai has the best Pad Thai. This is the conclusion I reached after I tried many other Thai restaurants in the area.
This place has recently changed hands and the food is amazing!! Great food to go or in house. Wonderful lunch or dinner!!
Always delicious! I have enjoyed their great Thai food since they were in the Northgate Mall. Now with their dining room I enjoy their warm and friendly service as well. If you're in a hurry, they have a wonderful selection to go.
Love this place. Their house special: Tiew Gang w/chicken (egg or rice noodles in a rich yellow curry broth) is my favorite dish. I wish I could get it in every Thai restaurant. I can't, so I come back here again and again. Always satisfies.
This used to be one of my favorite lunch/ dinner spots when I worked nearby. I stopped by today for old time sake and got my usual 2 item lunch combo: Pad thai, chicken satay w/ fried rice and an side bowl of red pumpkin curry. Always fresh and always good!
Glad to have a good Thai place in town, conveniently located near Safeway. The noodles weren't oily like all the other places in Marin and still had lots of flavor. Ordering a combination plate is a great way to try more items. Fish was unexpectedly spicy, which was slightly disappointing (couldn't even taste it because it was so spicy) - but I'll be back to try the other dishes. Portion sizes are always going to be small in California... I'll accept it eventually. ------- Update: came back to try other dishes! All the noodles we've tried so far are delicious! They accommodated my request for pad-woon-sen (glass noodles) even though it's not on the menu, so that warrants a 5-star rating!

I love spicy food. My family's favorite place.
One of the best Thai food in Marin.
I get to go and it's impeccably packaged, hot with great portions.
This place has been a family run, incredibly delicious marin institution for 30+ years. The food is remarkably fresh, with the same high quality everytime. I can’t believe they don’t charge more!! A must go.
I love this place. Wonderful people, good service, fabulous food and affordable. I make a point to visit every time I'm back in town. Wish it moved with me.
This is a great place to go for lunch or pick up to go food on the way home. There is a variety to choose from and some food is spicy while some is not. This works well for me and the Thai Fried Rice is a favorite with or without the chili sauce! The food seems fresh, well prepared and delicious!
I love this place ! Let's start with the decor - it's soothing without being pretentious. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. I admit I'm a vegetarian so I can't honestly comment on the meat dishes but friends have said their duck entree and chicken satay are delicious. I personally love their red curry dish. All the entrees come out of the kitchen beautifully presented, flavorful and hot.
Best green curry ever. And it's vegetarian! No fish sauce and no shrimp paste by default...so it's pure and I can eat it anytime. This is my new favorite weekend go to place to eat. We all love it.
Delicious food. Best Thai I've had in a long time. Daily lunch special is a good value with a broad selection. Some staff are very friendly; others a bit less so, but overall I enjoy coming here and will return again.

I got the avocado green curry house special. Very good. More like a big bowl of soup. Lots of generous chunks of avocado in there along with pumpkin, peppers and other veggies. My only complaint is that I find they didn't really cook the veggies enough. Too hard and raw. The zucchini, cabbage and pumpkin too under cooked. I find that many Asian restaurants tend to do that. They ought to partially cook vegetables in the morning and then finish them off before giving to the customer. I think they tend to undercook vegetables in the interest of time but if they partially cook them in the morning that would save time later
i was in a hurry, and only had time for some tom kha gai soup and a side of rice. i mentioned that to the server, who thoughtfully brought my check just before i finished. the soup was excellent - clean, fresh flavors. i plan to return. not cheap (soup + rice was $11.45 w/ tax) but good.
Love this place especially when I have little time. Service buffet has actually delicious items. Favorites are green curry tofu with pumpkin and the eggplant with basil.
Great tasty food. Plenty of space and friendly atmosphere. Their service is Ok, but could use some improvement. Overall, this is a nice little spot to enjoy some good food at decent menu prices.
Nice place good very good food delicious and good service affordable
Ordered pad thai chicken. I expected the pad thai to be more stir fried. Not bad. There were prob about 5 pieces of chicken. It’s like a fast food thai place. Nice quick.

Tried a tom yum and pineapple rice. The soup was not tasty and the rice was ok but not for its price. However, my order was done quickly, the service area is nice and clean.
I've known Calgang since I was a little girl–back when it was actually known as Jhan Thong and located in the Northgate shopping mall, where Jhan Thong could practically be considered gourmet. It was so out of place, situated between McDonalds and Taco Bell, and for the first decade of my life this was the only Thai food I knew. My parents would take me to the mall just for Thai dinner–it's that good. Today, the food remains just as delicious. Rich, flavorful panang curry, tender chicken satay, pan fried eggplant, and their incomparable Pad Thai are my personal favorites. And let me tell you about this Pad Thai–deep peanut flavor cut through by lime, cilantro, and chili. If you go to Calgang and don't order the pad thai, then you've made a serious mistake. I have yet to encounter a better tasting Pad Thai. Just last night, I made a run out to Calgang to get a combination plate of Tom Yum soup, spinach salad, and tofu panang curry without rice for my mother. When I returned home, she realized that she had meant to order the Tom Kha soup instead and there was rice (which comes with any combination at no charge). So, I returned to Calgang and explained the mixup. They took back the Tom Yum soup (no questions asked) to exchange it for a Tom Kha and gave me an extra order of the Panang Curry–even though, the mistake was no fault of their own–amazing! My rating is three stars becuase the restaurant atmosphere itself is not so ideal with the to-go counter/register located in the back, which means diners are disturbed by foot traffic, and overall, the space feels a bit austere and sparse..
Great for their lunch offerings. They have a combo where you can pick two items. It's not going to be the most flavorful thing you've ever eaten but it's generally quick and relatively cheap for how much food you get. I especially like the red curry with pumpkin, but the pad thai is rather bland.
I saw a sign saying 10.49 fir all day..you get 2 entrees and rice..decided to try this as going out to eat is not cheap..I been to this place a year ago..food was ok..been to Thailand..food is not done really..more americanized...I ordered a beef and pork entree not much..I took it to go..took home to eat..flavors were ok..some of beef and pork was a bit hard..anyways if you are looking for a meal and hungry then it is made for that. Nice decor etc..not my taste
Great food! Horrible customer service and wait time. There is no reason to order your food ahead at 1230 and at 110 your food still isn't ready. It's very frustrating especially when your lunch break is only 30mins. To top it off they make you feel like you are bothering them for being a customer. This is my 2nd and last time at this place.
Great service and good but not great food
Great service and good but not great food
Were I to rate them by recipe they'd score much higher than two stars. Docking one star for improperly cooked seafood, one star for failing to ask how my meal is, and one more for poorly trained servers... felt fully ignored and even after the meal didnt receive a check.
Was passing through town and stumbled kinda late on this Thai restaurant, so we gave it a try knowing they close by 9pm . When we got inside , the hostess , may be owner said that we only can do take out . So we Ordered 2 pad Thais, asked for 1 spicey and one regular. Got wrong orders and kinda turned off the hostess got a bit mad , then she said we give you spice on the side . Wow , that's it , that made it a quick fix ? Felt like we were there late and they wanted to close. Any ways the food was ok . I'm a bit skeptical , not sure if I'll ever visit Calgang again .
Food was delicious but service was bad. Staff was rude and did not acknowledge us as we waited over 20 minutes for our order to be taken. Customers who came in after my group were served before us.
I’m so sad to have to write this, but it’s really upsetting. Calgang used to be ELITE! Especially their to go buffet. It’s was only $13 and it was THE BEST pad thai and panang curry I’ve ever had. Ever. Now it’s $16, which I understand with inflation, but the food is awful! The pad thai tastes like nothing, there is nothing covering the noodles, they’re still completely white. And the pan and curry is… I can’t put my finger on it, but it’s not good at all. It mostly is just pretty spicy and tastes like salt maybe. It’s beyond disappointing. I’m literally going to give it to my chickens to eat.
Ordered green beans and red curry with chicken and pumpkin for take out. Green beans were tasty but the curry was poor. Chicken seemed not fully cooked in some of the larger pieces. In fact, myself and my partner both felt slightly unwell in the GI area for the rest of the afternoon. Also, suspect they do actually use MSG in their food as my partner is sensitive and had a reaction.
Ordered Drunken Noodles with veggies and beef. Picked up for takeout Unfortunately tasted like it was cooked hours ago and sat under a heat lamp. Soggy noodles on a brown sauce. I will pass on this place or maybe ordered the wrong item.
This place was good until a year or two ago. Ate here while running errands near by and familiar faces are all gone and dishes tasted so different and almost bad that I am compelled to write to say the new owners are not keeping the same recipes. None of the people whom I know from Thom Kiang or Calgang from old days are here. Very disappointing. The new cook had Pad Himmapan all wrong (compared to how I remember 2 or 3 years ago). And the Pad Thai is missing the flavor of Pad Thai. I don’t know what happened to this restaurant. Looks like new owners totally massed up the cook & recipes. Sad day to find out it’s not the same Calgang.

Horrible experience here. Wanted privacy and asked to sit at table that looked comfortable for me as resturant want not very full, he said NO and seated me right next to an obnoxious couple who were swearing, cussing and annoying. He REFUSED me chicken in my Pad Thai! (What the actual F) So I ordered the drunken noodle with CHICKEN! He allowed that because it was twice the price of the lunch special. (Greed) I ordered no spice, mild and it was SO HOT, spicy hot, my lips, mouth and stomach burned for quit a while. Food tast was MEH, only 🔥 hot. Had to add soy sause for taste. I will NOT eat here again. Much better choices around with excellent customer service.
We ate there many times in the past and enjoyed fresh vibrantly tasty meals. We ate there recently and the food was surprisingly bad. Enough said. We won't eat there again.
Food is ok here. But the service is not good. Waiters and owner here seems racist and do not serve or communicate with dignity. In one of our visits waiter just kind of thee the plate on the edge of table, very unprofessional people. Avoid if you can.
Had the green curry that was more like watered down soup with barely cooked squash! Green curry is supposed to have eggplant not squash - hardly any coconut milk and had their spring rolls in reality were tiny and disappointing, the satay was passable
The food was awful...flavorless and stale. The service was also very slow. We sent our food back. Sad day. Probably the worst Thai food I’ve ever had.
This restaurant has been sold by the original family owners. It's not at all the same quality of food AT ALL that it had been for so many years; we were served much smaller portions, cold rice and clearly day old sauteed eggplant. Will not be returning, sadly.
Do NOT get their combination plate. The food literally tastes like it’s been sitting out forever. The pad Thai tasted disgusting and the noodle was partially hardened with the first bite. The red curry was also not good, the chicken was mushy. I tried to take the combo plate back and just order an actual dish bc my partner had the stir fry dish and it was good but the server still wanted to charge us full price for the combo plate even though it sat there untouched after the first two bites. Then he agreed to just charge us half (so like $8 for nothing) since I got the fried rice dish instead. The fried rice was literally wet and not at all like actual fried rice. Probably never coming back.
First of all they don’t deliver. Second off all the dishes were watered down, lacked flavor and I have never had a curry dish with so many chunks of onions in my life. The Tom Kha Soup had 2 slices of chicken and the rest was cabbage. The did not send rice with the curry dish either. Also pieces of unpeeled ginger where thrown in my dish. Overpriced and not to standard. Will never order there again. Very disappointing.
