Opinions de Ping's Chinese Cuisine San Rafael
I absolutely LOVE MY PING'S! Best prices in town. Huge portions! You seriously cannot beat the lunch price ANYWHERE!!! NO LIE. Also, the food is always great. You can have parties there, blag, blag blah. I just love them Oh yeah, I'm partial to the Ping's in the North Gate Mall (Tara Linda). Not to familiar with the one in San Rafael (just off the freeway). They are owned by different people. Just saying EnFreakingJoy!!!!!🍶🥦🥗🍲🍤🥟🥠🍵
Great prices for large servings. There is no friendly chatting with the waiters- it's all about efficiently delivering of what you ordered. Take out is always quick. Come in, order, enjoy a small saki, and in under ten minutes you will have your hot order. Pay your bill without those very bothersome automatic 20/25/&30% computer tip programs that we all hate. Leave a good tip without those friggin tip programs! FYI- when businesses use those programs, they recieve less tips !!! Wonder why?
My favorite Chinese Cuisine place around here. It's never too oily, the flavor is always spot on. The owners are super nice and welcoming. I've been coming here for years and years. I love their chow mein.
This is the best reasonably priced chinese food in Marin. Their rolled lettuce wraps are amazing, and the generals chicken is just the right combination of savory & spicy. Good portion sizes, decent prices, great quality, and incredible consistency
We love this place! My daughter is 8 years old only wants to eat at Ping's Terra Linda. The Pandemic impacted the whole World. The amigos are friendly and the Food is Yummi!!!! Price reasonably. Thank you!!
This is the best chinese food in marin. They have a awesome lunch special 7 day's a week. The service is very friendly and courteous!!
Tried Pings for the first time. What a nice surprise hidden away in the Northgate Shopping Center. Great food at a reasonable price. The service was good, friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere . We will be back.
My daughter lives in San Rafael. We come up from San Diego. Every time we visit we have a meal at Ping's. The food is good and so is the service. Our first time was a few years ago, we arrived late so we had to get take out as they were closing. We ordered the war wanton soup, took it to our hotel, and it was so good. Could not believe the amount of shrimp they put in take out soup. Since then we have stopped in several times and have always had a good experience. We always get the soup and the calamari with green beans, two of our favorites. We will continue going to Ping's whenever we visit here.
Really yummy food, welcoming, calm atmosphere truly recommend!
I picked up an order of princess chicken, vegetable spring rolls, and mu shu vegetables. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, and the portions were surprisingly large. I will definitely be ordering from here again
Been going to Ping's for years and always satisfied.
You can't beat their lunch specials! Good food, generous portions, and most are $13 including soup.
I've ordered twice (online) here now, and when picking up, am glad I did - the owners are so friendly, unlike what I see frequently at other restaurants. Oh, and the food's good too! This time I ordered crispy fish (salt/pepper), a tofu dish, Hong Kong style noodles, and a simple chicken fried rice. Basic but hearty to eat back at the hotel. Will come back again for sure.
Lee runs an amazing a consistent food experience. Family favorite!
Delicious food. One of the best Chinese restaurants in Marin. You may have to wait a while for your take out to be prepared but it's well worth it. Dine in or take out you'll always enjoy your meal from Ping's Chinese Restaurant at North Gate.
Ping's always serves tasty food. After living in Washington for 2.5 years, it was wonderful to return to Ping's and enjoy many of my favorite dishes. Prices are very reasonable, too. Everyone is always so welcoming there. Don't miss it!
We really enjoyed the food and the service was top notch will be back again!
Everything we tried was excellent. The service was great even with a full dining room. Highly recommend Ping's Chinese Cuisine!!!
My niece love it here. Foods are great.
So incredibly great and reasonably priced! I wish had this quality of Chinese cuisine back home! I love how they bring you tea immediately and are so attentive. The crab wontons were the best I've ever had. The chicken was juicy and perfect! I recommend Ping's highly!!
This was my first visit to dine in here. I have gotten take away several times and it was always good. Today I went with a colleague we had pot stickers, Won Ton Soup and Shrimp and vegetables. Everything was delicious, the pot stickers were the largest I have ever had and tasted home made. The soup and shrimp dish were both very good. We will be back again. Service was quick, the staff was nice and the place was clean. They brought ice water and hot tea for us to enjoy.
March 2020: Came here for some chow fun and a seafood lunch special. I liked the BBQ pork chow fun. The only complaint is there should be more meat and veggies. My dad had the seafood rice dish and he said it was ok. Would come back for more chow fun! March 2018: Love the lunch special. Great food at a low price.

Great food and good prices. Best Chinese restaurant in Marin county.
Amazing food, wish they had a non-caffeinated hot tea option!
Get take out often. Tried other Chinese restaurants in Marin. Believe this is the best.
This place is pretty awesome for lunch. The lunch special is a screaming deal. The entrees seemed to be cooked from scratch, which is pretty awesome. I had a really great lunch here. It's that very specific sort of Chinese food that doesn't have any pretentiousness and enough American and Chinese influence to satisfy a broad range of palettes.
I’ve been to Ping’s a few times now, and I really like it. The food is consistently good, and the portions are generous for the price. I had a shrimp and broccoli lunch with tip—paid around $15—and it came with a nice portion of shrimp and broccoli plus a solid amount of rice. For a big guy like me (6’2”, 180 lbs), it was more than satisfying—almost could’ve fed two people, but I definitely finished it! A nice surprise was that the order came with an egg roll—it looked like a little vegetarian one, sitting on top of the rice. That was a special little treat that made the meal even better. The person at the front—likely the owner—was managing a busy lunch rush with a lot of to-go orders calmly and politely. The restaurant was full, which is a good sign that they’re doing well. Overall, the quality, portion size, and service make this a place I’d definitely recommend. Check it out! I ate it too fast to snap a picture, so you’ll just have to trust me on this one.
Maybe the best value for Lunch in Marin County. Huge plate of food, still under $13. Soup, appetizer included. Food served in 5 minutes. Way above average Chinese restaurant, definitely in the top 5 in the County.
On the road, craving Chinese. This was a great find. The place is super busy, we grabbed a table. The food was awesome, the portions large ans the price right on point! Excellent food!

This is white people Chinese food not super authentic. I had to ask for chopsticks, forks came standard on the table. Kids liked it and the place was packed on a Saturday night. Quick service. Comfy neighborhood Chinese place. Will be back.
My wife and I got chicken fried rice and one order of spring rolls and shared it. Hot tea and ice water came to our table as soon as we sat down. We could barley eat all of our food. Our total bill came to $20.00'including everything. I'm recommending this place. #Timsamstravelusa
Quiet atmosphere, great if you want to talk. Kind staff. A little over-present wait staff, but at least our needs were met. The food is good, but not worthy of an award.
We meant to order Prawns with Deluxe Vegetables, but when we asked what deluxe Vegetables we're, then said yes, we forgot to mention the prawns. But the veggies were delish! A bit of everything and all cooked to just crunchy perfection. The duck was tasty and the Hot and Sour Soup just like I like it. No atmosphere at all. Excellent service though and even the restrooms were sparkling clean. I'd definitely go back.
Ping's in Northgate One, Terra Linda/San Rafael is consistent with the quality of their food. Every dish is filled with fresh and colorful ingredients and the flavors they deliver are outstanding. The service is mostly attentive but if you arrive at the later end of their lunch menu time (on weekends), expect to wait a bit longer at the end of your meal for your check. This is not enough to keep me away, but thought I should mention it as you might want to mention when you order, if you are on a limited time schedule. Don't be put off by this restaurant being in a Mall setting, it is truly a great Chinese Food experience.
Quintessential Chinese American fare and flavors so if that’s what you’re looking for, this place hits the spot. Service is super fast as well - food came out faster than waiting in line at Panda Express. Lunch special great deal at $11.5 for fried rice, kung pao chicken plus hot and sour soup. Also got the 6 crab wontons for $9.50. Tho the appetizers was okay and the lunch special was better!
Neighborhood Chinese in a strip mall. Atmosphere and decor very basic, but more than made up for by the food and service. Second visit was as good as the first. This time we had orange beef- perfectly cooked beef in a not-too-sweet sauce, salt and pepper prawns- really fresh prawns in a crispy batter, and cashew chicken - chicken and a good amount of veggies. Also had Singapore noodles which were delicious, just the right amount of curry flavor. Service was great, iced water and tea as you sit down, and the food is served really quickly. Portions are enough for a second meal and very reasonable prices. Recommended for an evening meal when you don't feel like cooking.

…Wonton Soup has been my go to meal on a Chinese menu when I need to eat light after or during an illness…soothing & easy to digest…the wonton soup here is way too salty & heavy…certainly not like traditional comfort broth it should be…
Good, not great. This is what happens with no competition. Small portions, $2 extra for rice (not jasmine), mediocre service. The orange beef and broccoli is very dry. Also out of broccoli... will not return.

My husband wanted dinner from Pings and I was happy to get him something he would eat. We ordered War Won Ton soup, hot and sour pork, and rice, plus steamed vegetables with shrimp with no sauce for me. The service was good and our food was ready in 20 minutes. The rice was dry, but with a little water, we were able to reheat it. The soup was very salty and we had to drain off the broth before we could eat it. The pork was okay. The shrimp and vegetables were so overcooked as to make me ill. My dog ate some veggies since they were plain and steamed and she was sick the entire night and next day. It is hit or miss with the food. Good service, but not worth 2/3 of us getting sick.

Food is good, but the server never changes gloves. If they don't change gloves when they serve your food. Can you imagine how the kitchen is???!!
Most of the food is poor. The vegetables we're undercooked, the salad was uninspiring, the curry was dry and bland. We've come here 3 times and the one saving grace was the hot and sour soup. I can recommend that.

Very bland! My husband and I had no desire to finish our meals because of the lack of flavor. We ordered two meals to go, only received one set of chopsticks. We are in a hotel, so that made for an interesting eating experience. My curry (don't be fooled by the spicy indication on the menu) was in a standard chinese take out container that leaked the sauce from the bottom seams leaving a big pool of bland curry sauce in the bottom of the bag. The whole experience was disappointing.
Easily the worst Chinese food I've had in a long time. Hot and sour soup was neither, and tasted like it was half water. The spicy chicken dish I ordered was the same. In fact, the container was mostly liquid and not the actual dish (also not spicy in the least). DJ's is far better, and not much farther away. My recommendation is to avoid this restaurant unless it is a last resort.
2nd update (CHILDREN IN DANGER, READ REVIEW) We decided to give them one more chance, never again, WE DON'T WANT THIS DRIVER IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD!. The delivery service is the worst I've ever received. Opened the door the driver was in such a hurry to leave he basically dropped the food in my hand and ran away. I said can you wait 2 seconds so I can make sure everything is here (we missed items in the past) and he shrugged and continued walking without looking back. I yelled at him don't you want your tip and he got in his car and sped down the road at high speed... I'm surprised the tires didn't chirp. (There were neighbors kids playing in the street). VERY UNSAFE. THIS ENOUGH TO MAKE SURE I NEVER ORDERED FROM PINGS AGAIN. (They use their own drivers) PINGS DRIVER IS A DANGER TO OUR COMMUNITY. Update After giving them another 3 chances I am still not happy with the food descriptions. 3 times the soups have almost nothing but broth. Sizzling rice and wonton both were a disappointment. Delivery was fast but driver just left the bag and walked away... I yelled thank you as he walked away and he just got in his car and left, didn't even look back.... would have been $5 Cash on top of other tip but I guess he didn't want it. Hot and sour soup had no hot... Just sour. Mango chicken says spicy and mango chunks... It was VERY MILD, no heat at all and had EXACTLY ZERO MANGO. Flavor was ok but not what we ordered. Broccoli beef was ok, nothing special. It's really just an average place with a deceptive menu. I will not be going back since they don't describe the items accurately.
We have been going to Pings for over 15 plus years and we love the food. A few years ago, the service was getting bad at the Terrra Linda location so we only decided to do take outs. Lately the take out has been bad. Our orders get messed up often and the response is "you can always come back and get a replacement". The problem is by the time I go back and get the back home our family dinners are almost over. I notice the quality has gone down as well. It is a shame but we will not longer be spending our money here. I would not recommend the food.
Where do I begin? Well I’ve come here is because around where I stayed for business trip, there ain’t any Chinese restaurant or even close and this one was close so I went. I thought the other reviews were ok but let me tell you my experience. It was horrible! I order only two appetizers: 1) barbecue spareribs- well if you know how it’s prepared from the beginning then you should know that two side is; one side meat, other side is the membrane. That texture must be removed and they didn’t, it’s because flavors would not be marinated correctly, anyway that was disgusting and the flavor was at best blend, without the mustard and duck sauce it would been disaster! 2) Hot & sour soup with carrots? Are they out of their mind?? Anyway it was also disgusting and didn’t have any flavor of Hot & sour at all. Plus the cornstarch was not even noticeable. How can they miss simple Chinese cooking? The only good part out of this was the waitress was nice but I just couldn’t let her know because, I don’t think she knows how to describe the dishes of what they are and etc but she was nice Over all I would not recommend this place. I rather drive out another 1/2 hour just to have a good authentic Chinese food

I got sick as a dog last night. I only had one thing to eat all day. It was from this restaurant. Walnut prawns, a go to favorite of mine for years. But to think that I paid to get sick 😫 does not sit well with me ;(. Minutes after I finished the prawns I started to feel warm. I thought maybe because it was cold out that their heater was on hi. Nope I needed air bad, then went next door and got some club soda from the lil store. But as soon as I got home 5 mins away it was all down hill. And is was all and only prawns. So sad to think that I have been eating this dish for years with never a thought of a possible problem. :( and now I'll probably never order them again ..ever 😕
