Pretty nice restaurant they could do a little updating but other than that it's pretty decent place they definitely need to clean their fish tank

Came for the sushi But the cucumber salad was the best seller! 6 different people came for that order alone while I was seated. The staff was amazing and friendly. Had a lovely lunch here.

This is my Cheers... the place where everybody knows your name. The service by the killer wait staff, or the chef at the bar is beyond great. And the food? Sublime. Fresh ingredients, a flexible style to custom build any order, and the best cucumber salad anywhere! I have eaten at many sushi places. And every time I stray, I am disappointed I didn't go to Yu Shang in the first place. If you're in the area, stop in! It's intensely worth it!

Always friendly, always willing to take special requests for my friend with allergies, the sushi chef's are wonderful. The locals know... The wait staff are from diverse backgrounds... If you ask them something they don't know the answer to, they will always find someone who does.

Yu shang is amazing, I have been going there since I was a teenager. Always nice service, and even though I only go about once a year no because I've moved, they always remember me. The sushi is phenomenal, fresh, priced well, and made quickly.

Hidden Gem. Don't judge a book by its cover, is all I can say. Go inside and enjoy a great ambience and well prepared sushi. If you want Chinese food, that's also there (weird yes, but it works). Very established place...do it!

2024: Still one of my favorite sushi bars anywhere! In the 2 years since I last ate here, the quality has remained top-flight. So glad I had a chance to eat here again! 2022: Yu Shang was my favorite sushi bar for the 35 years I lived in Marin. After living in Washington for 2.5 years, it was wonderful to return to Yu Shang and enjoy many of my favorite dishes. Prices are very reasonable, too. Everyone is always so welcoming there. Don't miss it!

The. Best. We come every time we’re in the area. Where to even begin? Favorite sushi roll is Lion King. Also loved volcano, lucky star, AC/DC. Love that the won ton soup is full of veggies. Cucumber salad with crab is a must. Even the tempura ice cream for dessert: green tea ice cream breaded in pound cake and fried. YUM!

Found this spot while up from the city and it’s now our go-to. Fish is fresh and the rolls from my guy at the sushi bar amazing. Also make sure you get the crispy chow mein! Sushi and noodles? Phenomenal!

I love Yu Shang I’ve been coming here since I was a teen. Now I bring my 2 girls. We come over from Sausalito to get the famous Crab Special & cucumber salad and it incredible. I give this place 5 plus stars. Try the crab special or anyone of there specialty rolls. Your stomach will thank you!!

K

The sushi there is really good. Been there twice with my girlfriend. I normally don't like eating sushi rolls and prefer sashimi style. I have to say the ratio of fish to rice is perfect.

Even though I don't usually associate Mandarin cuisine with sushi, their sushi menu looked good online. So, I ordered the Dynamite Roll and Rainbow Roll after a nearby hike in the woods. My takeout order was quick, very fresh, and tasted excellent.

I’ve been going here since 2004, and it’s still my favorite sushi place anywhere. It’s a mix of the good service, friendly faces, and unique rolls. Their special sauce that you can only get there, pairs well with everything!

Best sushi joint ever! Been going there since 1993 with my best friend, & to this day, I can't get THIS sushi ANYWHERE else. Love ALL the guys who run this place, I've known them forever, it seems. Yes, I go to other places, but when I want real sushi, and a great well experienced sushi bar, I come home...I come to Yu-Shang. Oh, they have excellent Chinese food too!

30 years and going, this place is in control of its destiny, hard working people delivering good food. Went with someone that has been going there for years and ordered the Fresh Crab Salad and it was spot on with the sweetness on the bottom dusted with the right amount of flavor and that fresh crab, then we had the dragon roll with unagi, it was also good and the whole thing was enjoyable

Yu Shang in San Rafael is by far the best sushi you will ever have. From the moment you step inside, the staff greets you like an old friend, remembering not just your name but who you used to come with…talk about a personal touch. This place embodies everything I love about unassuming spots that deliver top-tier food and service. I always kick things off with their fresh cabbage salad with added crab special, an Unagi Tamaki hand roll….each bite is perfection. And when I want to indulge, I go for one of their fabulous roll. My go-to is the Darkside of the Moon Roll with fresh fish on top. It's consistently incredible and keeps me coming back for more. Between the welcoming atmosphere, impeccable service, and unforgettable flavors, Yu Shang has earned its spot as my favorite sushi destination.

The restaurant space creates a cozy feeling with a quite diverse menu. The sushi is fresh and delicious, so it depends on the day to have different types of seafood. But overall, the food is delicious. The restaurant's seasoning is just right. The sushi waiters talk a bit rudely, but the waiters are friendly, and the owner is very cute, so that's a big plus. Will come back.

Yu Shang is one of those hidden gems in an industrial/residential neighborhood. I've come here for years for the amazing, well-priced sushi. This is the first time I sat down in the restaurant and had the lunch special, in this case, kung pao shrimp. It was just as good as the sushi! The vegetables were freshly cut, not overcooked, and the quantity was enough for two meals, all for less than $14. Yu sheng has been around for a long time, and I hope business continues to be good enough to keep it going forever.

Yu Shang has been my favorite Chinese(they also serve Japanese & Sushi w/a Full Sushi Bar + Chef w/TVs) food restaurant ever since I moved to the San Francisco, CA Bay area. Their sushi is top notch, with a large Full Sushi Bar that's separate from the main dining area. My favorite dish is the General Tsao Chicken. It's good as a takeout order but if you want the BEST General Tsao Chicken that you've ever tasted then order it when dining in Yu Shang. The General Tsao Chicken comes out as a large portion, piping hot and looking scrumptious presented with the freshest/greenest broccoli I've ever seen. It's similar to Orange Chicken, with a hint of spice and each bite is crunchy/chewy bliss. I enjoy it with white rice and their Pot Stickers are also solid. The Pot Stickers are pork and very large in size and delicious, I'm not sure if you can order them with chicken or another way. There's limited street parking directly in front of Yu Shang so you might have to park a block away and walk but it's well worth it. You will not regret your trip to dine at Yu Shang Restaurant.

Go to place for Chinese food in the area and is absolutely above average. They probably deserve 5 stars and after a few more visits I may give them that. Pot stickers are perfect (and I mean perfect).

Crab special, no mayo...anything! Ooooh so good! 😁 Everyone is very friendly, you are welcomed immediately upon entering. Seat yourself at the sushi bar, and order up as you are ready. The sushi chefs are quick to fill orders, and even make you something special if you're undecided. Love them! If you order from the kitchen, be prepared to wait because there's a whole restaurant they're filling orders for, too so it does take a while. **watch your bill when paying, I've caught adding errors, or being charged for items I didn't order.

J
John G Fischer

Large portions. Good lunch specials. But the flavor isn't quite there on some of the menu items. There's also a little sushi bar in the back, and their rolls are large. You get a lot for your money for lunch. If you are in the Bellam area, this place is cheap, quick, predictable. Friendly staff.

M

It's a unique experience the food has great taste the service was good but the building the restaurant is in should be demolished. If you can over look that you'll have a great time. I will go back to give it a second try. Oh by the way I recommend the crab cucumber salid, the rolls where above average, the plating looked great and the fish seamed to be fresh.

S
Saul Godinez

The sushi here is reasonable and fairly decent. The dragon rolls are probably the best. The Chinese foot had a Vietnamese twist to it, but is good enough for a rainy day. The fried menu it appears to be cooked on lard or some sort of vegetable lard because they feel heavy as you eat. The wings are very good and crispy but to sweet instead of spicy. The service is always great and very pleasant.

04.26.24 Driving thru on our way to Willits to view property, we were so hungry we figured we weren't going to make it to downtown San Rafael, googled for Asian restaurants near me while still at the gas station and this is the 1st to pop up (closest to me/near Hwy 101N), had 4.5+ reviews and went with it. We all got the lunch specials, probably the best priced food ANYWHERE, HUGE portions, I think due to serving all of the construction/service crew who frequent this establishment. The Hot & Sour Soup that came with the meal was piping hot, fresh, delicious and very authentic (daughter added 1 sugar packet to her soup and declared it perfect). *Their Mongolian Beef was delicious, fresh ingredients, hot, slightly sweet, crunchy vegetables! *String Bean Beef (in Black Bean Sauce) was too salty & oily (extra oil maybe due to us requesting it be made Spicy(?)) but still tasty. *We wouldn't order the Szhechuan Beef again though as the beef is dusted in cornstarch, deep fried, then sauteed w.vegetables in red sauce. Tasted slightly bitter, no hint of sweetness (which daughter prefers), and was quite heavy. Service by the young lady in glasses was very good! We would revisit this restaurant again, though next time will request less salt & oil.

This is my first time at this place. I loved their service. The manager/head came to us and we didn't eat our shrimp dish because it has very distinct seafood smell, we didn't say anything and he asked me couple times if the food was good and I told him about the smell and he explained me why and still took the dish off of our bill... that's so nice of him... I never really have that good experience at Chinese restaurant. I'm truly impressed and appreciated their service. Overall the beef and veggie fried rice was good, tasty and fresh... they also added sprouts for me with no charge. The service was 5 star definitely. I loved it. Thank you.

I'm glad I came to this restaurant. The #16 Broccoli Beef was delicious. It came with Egg Fried Rice, Crispy Wontons with Authentic Sweet & Sour sauce on the side and cup of Hot & Sour soup. The prices were reasonable and the food was fresh. The decor & layout of the interior Needs help. Other than that, this spot was Delicious .

Decent, albeit a little over priced. The roles are consistently good. The fish is hit and miss, but mostly hit The staff is super friendly. My wife and I have been eating there for over 30 years. It was always a go-to for decent, fast, and reasonably priced. Like many restaurants, post covid, it's not so reasonably priced anymore. I'll still go two to three times a month

A little odd, this restaurant serves both Chinese and Japanese cuisine, but that may be great to appeal to everyone in your group. May I suggest you stick with one cuisine as it's a bit odd on the palate to mix them. The portions are large and they make an effort to make you happy.

Have gone to Yu Shang many times over many years. Not the very best sushi or chinese cuisine, but decent. Better than most in Marin, but not on par with DJ's for Chinese as an example.

The Mongolian chicken was bland and the vegetables in the szechuan chicken tasted weird and I was looking forward to it most. The best part of the meal was the fortune. We did take out, so we didn't tip, and the moment the guy realized that he was in mid sentence of wishing us a good night, but stopped himself. You should never expect a tip for takeout. The tipping thing has gotten out of hand and I used to be a waitress. If I sat down and ate, that's one thing, but we came and picked up the food and cleaned up after ourselves. Good customer service goes a long way.

Food was great, chefs at the sushi bar are super friendly, overall pretty good experience. Downside- lack of transparency with the bill, they give you a hand written check with no much telling apart what is what and what the prices are, (asked for one where the it will be itemized) guy brought back a number? That’s a NO especially if you’re in a group. Secondly place is in need of a renovation.

This place is a joke. Not tasty at all. Missed items from our order. The nastiest Chinese we've ever had!! The fried rice was a joke and the pot stickers were so soggy and disgusting. Absolutely no flavor to anything. The worst meal we've ever bought and it cost $100!!! The fried rice was just white rice with their leftovers and no soy sauce or flavor whatsoever. We were in a hotel to We were SOL. It was so terrible we ordered pizza instead.

Extremely disappointed with both my order and the in-person service The chicken and shrimp were undercooked. I actually had to take them home and fry them again just to make them edible and safe to consume. The behavior of one of the attendants was completely inappropriate. Instead of focusing on service, she was clearly flirting with a guy at the other end of the counter. Just my own order were $55 for a raw meat never going back there again.
