Opinions de Brophy Bros. Santa Barbara
We had our first visit to Brophy’s and Helena, our server, was very helpful in our meal selection and which wine would pair well with our food. Highly recommend the Brander Sauvignon Blanc with the locally caught Cajun Dusted Seabass and the Blackened Chicken Salad. We will be back before the end of our week stay in Santa Barbara. We returned and we had great experience with our server, Michael P. Cheers everyone!!
Great food and views! Our first time in Santa Barbara, this was the perfect place for lunch. We ordered clam chowder, fish and chips, and an ahi tuna salad.
Great view of the marina. The fish was had a light crisp breading and perfectly flaky fish inside. Still thinking about it weeks afterwards! It is my new standard to compare all others to!
We went to the Santa Barbara restaurant and they have a little bar downstairs with a few tables. Most importantly they welcome dogs, I think there were at least three there including ours. Is a beautiful setting right on the dock in the Santa Barbara harbor. It's up the beach a little bit from the SB pier and it is l right along side a commercially working dock. There is and outdoor seating area where you have a wonderful view of all the boats in the harbor. We shared fish and chips and each had a bowl of clam chowder. Both are very good for a light dinner. Washed it down with an 805 and watched the sunset. Nice way to call off the weekend. There is another location in the Ventura harbor and it is just as nice. Try either, you won't be disappointed.
I first ate here over 30 years ago, and after moving away 20 years ago, I’ve missed it ever since. Coming back was like returning to a favorite chapter of my life. Only to find that it has somehow gotten even better with time. The food is absolutely outstanding. The clam chowder is still, without question, the best I have ever had. Rich, perfectly balanced, and exactly the way great chowder should be. It brought back every memory in the best possible way. Every dish we had reflected the same care, quality, and consistency that made Brophy Bros legendary in the first place. The atmosphere is just as incredible as the food. Sitting there, surrounded by the harbor, the energy, and the unmistakable coastal charm, reminded me why this place has remained iconic for decades. It feels timeless yet fresh. Brophy Bros isn’t just still good after all these years. It’s better than ever. And for me, it wasn’t just a meal. It was coming home.
Outstanding clam chowder with rich creamy flavor. You can actually taste the clam meat. Not like other restaurants only have potatoes and no clams. The salad is very fresh and the pasta dish is also delicious. A little more garlic and basil flavor would be even better. Always a good experience every time we go.
One of my favorite places when I lived here. Whenever we’re in town we usually have our Brophy lunch. We split a cioppino and it was spectacular as usual. Loaded with some of the freshest seafood I’ve had. Very filling for 2 at lunch and reasonably priced. Tatyana, our server was great and you could tell she really likes her job. What better that a hearty bowl of warm cioppino on a rainy day? Thank you Brophy Beothers for hitting it out of the park once again. You never disappoint- Merry Christmas!
Brophy Bros absolutely lived up to the hype. The food was fantastic and the harbor view elevated the whole experience — easily one of the best spots to enjoy a meal with a scenic backdrop. I tried a variety of dishes, including the swordfish, salmon, sea bass, baked clams, calamari, clam chowder, and even the cauliflower sandwich. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The seafood tasted like it came straight off the boat, and the clam chowder was rich and comforting without being overly heavy. Great food, amazing views, and a relaxed coastal vibe — definitely a place I’d return to and recommend to anyone visiting the area.
We loved our time in Santa Barbara and with loads of places to eat we asked some locals who recommended we must try Brophy bros…upstairs seating. We got there at 12 on a Sunday and it was packed, we asked the two hostesses for a table (whom both were super smiley and attentive) and we had on within 10 minutes. We started with the prawn cocktail and the baked clams….. the baked clams were one of the best fish starters I have ever had (so good we ordered another portion). The seabass was also delicious and so fresh. The vibe was buzzing and loud (in a good way) and the service was great. It is a must stop if coming to Santa Barbara. The lady in the bar downstairs makes a mean Bloody Mary.
If you’re visiting Santa Barbara, you definitely need to come to Brophy Bros. This iconic seafood restaurant is located right on the pier, offering incredible ocean views and a perfect coastal dining experience. 🌊 Stunning Location The view from Brophy Bros. is simply breathtaking. Overlooking the marina, you can watch boats glide in and out while enjoying the fresh sea breeze. The setting alone is worth the visit — especially during sunset when the entire harbor glows. It’s a peaceful yet vibrant spot to unwind and take in the beauty of Santa Barbara. 🦐 Fresh Seafood The seafood is top-notch — fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. From clam chowder and oysters to their famous shrimp cocktail and fish dishes, everything is packed with quality and taste. The portions are generous, and the seafood is truly the star of the menu. If you love coastal cuisine, this is your spot. 🍻 Good Vibe & Great People The atmosphere at Brophy Bros. is casual, fun, and full of life. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the crowd is a mix of locals and travelers — all there to enjoy good food and good energy. You’ll find that beautiful people and a relaxed vibe make this place feel like a true Santa Barbara gem. 📸 Picture-Perfect Spot Between the scenic views, delicious food, and bustling pier surroundings, Brophy Bros. is also a great place to take photos and capture memories. Whether you’re celebrating something or just passing through, it’s a restaurant that leaves an impression.
I was informed that Brophy Bros. is THEE place to go in Santa Barbara for yummy seafood. I can confirm this is true. The place was packed for dinner - which is always a good sign. I had the seafood pasta and it was fabulous. The portion size was very generous and the pasta was chock full of all kinds of delicious seafood. I would totally go back to Brophy Bros. So good!
I couldn't decide whether local or touristic. Quite busy place, nor easy to find a place to sit. We had salat and raw fish meal. Had some beer. Wiev is great. You can sit inside the bar or outside at the balcony. Both place are good. Easy to park and see around. There are some shops that could be interesting to visit. Must see
We visited Brophy Bros. for both lunch and dinner on the same day, based on recommendations from family and friends in Santa Barbara. The restaurant was busy, but we were seated after a short 10-minute wait. We ordered the clam chowder, oysters, and prawns, tuna melt sandwich, all incredibly fresh and delicious. Sitting outside with a beautiful view of the harbor made the experience even better. The staff were kind and attentive. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Santa Barbara and happily recommend it to others!
One of the best restaurants around Santa Barbara. We lined up 15 minutes before they opened at 11am on a Sunday, and a long line quickly formed behind us. Right when they opened they filled table and seat at the bar, and for very good reason. First off the views overlooking the harbor really elevate the dining experience. The food is super fresh and delicious. They are famous for their clam chowder and fish n chips, and they did not disappoint. Easily the best clam chowder I have ever had, and the fish had the perfect ratio of batter to fish. The cold appetizer combo was also great for trying different seafoods, all of which were fresh. Staff are amazing and friendly.
Amazing staff. Amazing atmosphere. Amazing views. No better clam chowder and the oyster shooters are just right. It's also a real locals place!!!

Awesome staff and food. Very quick service. Fun to be right on the water and watch the boats. Chowder was a great starter and all entrees were delicious.

If you’re craving fresh seafood with a side of waterfront charm, this harborfront gem does not disappoint. From the moment you walk in, the lively atmosphere and warm, friendly staff make you feel right at home. The views of the harbor alone are worth the visit, but it’s the food that truly steals the show. What really stands out is the value. The portions are hearty, the prices are reasonable, and the quality is top-notch. Whether you’re stopping by for a casual lunch or a relaxed dinner with a view, this spot delivers on all fronts. A must-visit for seafood lovers.
This was one of the most popular restaurants during our trip to SB. It's by the harbor with a nice view, friendly staff, decent food, but cramped seating. My gf and I are relatively small, but in our table of two we both felt quite cramped and often stepped on each other's toes when we extended our legs after keeping them tucked under our seats; but I suppose this is what they'll need to do to meet the demand. There were also a lot of flies on the side, which never got on my food but frequently got within a couple inches from my face. I'm not sure how much control they have over this though. Food: Definitely get the chowder, it was delicious! But the garlic baked clams appetizer was okay and overpriced. The seabass was also as dry as it looked in the photo. I usually eat seabass from costco home cooked on a pan or even air fryer, usually very juicy. So I was surprised and quite disappointed at how burnt and dry it was here. The fries were good though! But their complimentary bread was also room temp with solid butter, which was kind of unappetizing and hard to spread. It would've made a world of difference if it was served hot so the butter could melt. I ordered 1 main course and she ordered 1 appetizer, we shared. The total at the end was still $35/person--consider the value. Overall a 3.5/5. 3 for food, 2 for environment/comfort, but 5 and a round up for friendly service and hardworking servers. Might come back if I'm in the area but I have better options.
First night in Santa Barbara and we enjoyed the atmosphere and food of this local fish, bar restaurant. On the 2nd floor this cozy tavern setting with a balcony over looking the marina and the ocean was the perfect way to begin our journey in this magical region. Yes, there are probably better fish joints and the chowder was "pretty good" from our New England expert, but one thing that truly adds to the experience is the setting. The service and food plus the intimate feel of the bar are wonderful, but the views of the Pacific and the sun setting made the evening- Perfecto!
This place is very charming with great views of the boat docks. It was a little busy but we got seats within 15 mins. The downstairs clam bar had limited items from the menu, but had plenty of seats. We ordered the oyster Rockefeller and it was huge, perfectly cooked with a lot of flavor. The burger was decent and the grill fish sandwich (Mahi Mahi was the fish when we went) and was also tasty. Fries were awesome and the pile on the veggies for the sandwich/burger. Parking was a bit confusing because we weren't sure if we needed to pay where the signs just said 90 mins to park. There was only 1 sign indicating we needed to pay and it was no where close to where we parked. The staff was nice and attentive.
The oysters were fresh and the cucumber mignonette made them really refreshing. The beer-battered fish was great, super crispy and flavorful. The swordfish was just okay. The menu said the entrée came with a choice of clam chowder or rice, but no one asked me to choose. Service was pretty disappointing — the server felt inattentive and really slow. I asked for the check three times, and only after getting visibly frustrated did someone finally come over. Not a great experience overall.
We’ve been coming to this restaurant for years, and it has consistently been an excellent experience. The service is impressive considering how busy the restaurant usually is and the fact most of the staff are local college students. The bar is lively and it’s always fun to have a drink with a bowl of chowder looking out to the Pacific Ocean. But the food…great flavor, large portions, and always satisfying.

My wife and I ate dinner here because of the reviews. Unfortunately, our experience is nowhere near the great reviews we read. We were seated immediately and we loved that. We were given our menus and water. Our waitress came over and we weren't ready to order. However, it took her 10 mins or so to come back and take our order. This is despite is having the menu on the table to show we were ready to order. She walked past us quite a few times and never bothered to ask if we were ready to order. It just seemed like there was no urgency in meeting our table. Finally, it was time to order. She provided good suggestions. My wife ordered the seafood pasta and oysters as an appetizer. I ordered the blackened seabass. We felt excited about what we chose to dine on. Our clam chowder cup of soup and oysters came out first and very quickly It was okay. My wife enjoyed her oysters. The soup was bland to taste. I did not eat all of mine because of that. We waited for our entrees like close to 30 mins. It was people there, but not crowded that we needed to wait so long. We watched our waitress go to other tables, take orders and then boom.. they received their order. Only once she came over and told is that it good would be coming out shortly. I was very confused because what we ordered should not have taken so long to be brought out. When the food finally came, my food was lukewarm. After waiting close to 30 mins, they whole plate should have been hot. When my wife's food came, it was steaming hot. This meant that my food was made some time ago and they let it sit. It Alain means that the forgot about my wife's food and literally just made it prior to our being brought out. That ridiculous. However, it gets worse. So I spoke to the waitress to let her know that my for was not hot and after waiting so long, it should have been. She took the plate and told the manager. Then she came back and stated that our was being "Heated". I was a bit baffled because I just knew that they were not going to microwave my food. When my plate came back less than 5 mins later, it was the same exact food that I tasted from. Nothing was made over. I questioned this and she told me that they put the plate in the oven because they do not have a microwave added fresh rice. However, that rice was not new. My fries, fish (That was pan seated on a hot skillet) and rice was exactly the way I sent it back. I explained to her the issue that I had with that and even initially having to wait so long and receive lukewarm food. I told her that I no longer wanted the food. The manager came over and I explained the same issues to her she then ask me if it wanted a "New piece". The issue I have with that is it should have been new when it came back out. They let my food sit out pay the time it should have instead of sending it out when it was 1st cooked. I told the manager that I did not want anything at that point. My wife informed me that her food was very bland as well ave she just packed it up, we paid the bill and left. They did remove my order from the bill. That was such a crappy 1st experience.
