Opinions de oat bakery Santa Barbara
Absolutely delicious!! Prices are a bit high, but the quality and freshness are both unbeatable! The olive focaccia and the garlic sage buns were both incredible!
Overall rating: 4.9 Definitely thought maybe they served coffee, but they’re all bread. Staff wasn’t as friendly as I would hope, but the prices were great! I can see why it’s so popular. Items I ordered: Sage garlic bun Morning bun Highly recommend!
Great place for takeout bread, sandwiches and bakery items. I had the roll with cheese + chilli jam and it was soooo good. All good ingredients and care gone into making the food. Definitely recommend if in Santa Barbara!
Oat was one of the best places we went during our time in Santa Barbara. We tried it early on during our trip and couldn’t stop talking about it and returned to get more. Our favorites were the sage/garlic bread, super seed cookie, and cinnamon bun. All were so fresh and perfectly made. The staff was also friendly. This is a place I would recommend to everyone going to Santa Barbara. Of note- it is primarily for take out as there is not any seating on the inside.
Finally got to try their famous sourdough! I visited twice before and both time they were closed. This is a tiny bakery, takeout only, and you can see the bakers work behind the open counter. the smell of the freshly baked bread just lured you in! We got the signature Sesame Charcoal Sourdough. The crust is thin and fragrant with nutty sesame seeds, the crumb is unbelievably beautiful with charcoal and wheat marble, and it’s super tender and fluffy. This is the most enjoyable sourdough I have had the past years. We also had the focaccia with onion and cheese. It’s savory, light and airy in texture and has the satisfying chewiness from the crust. I will definitely come again.
🥖 Bread: The vegan bread options at Oat Bakery are simply outstanding. I particularly enjoyed the variety they offer, with each bread being fresh and warm. Their sourdough with flaxseed was amazing - chewy and slightly yeasty, just delicious. The vegan cinnamon rolls and veggie sandwich were incredible too. The quality and taste of their bread, especially the unique ones like the seed bread and the one with cheddar cheese and apples, left a lasting impression on me 🏡 Atmosphere: Oat Bakery is a cozy and charming spot, a true hidden gem in Santa Barbara. It's a tiny place but has a great vibe, very organic and authentic. The bakery, with its counter opening right onto the street, adds a quaint and welcoming touch. It felt great to be there, enjoying their delicious offerings in such a homely environment 😍 Overall Experience: I was truly amazed by the quality of breads and other items at Oat Bakery. Everything I tried was exceptional. This place is definitely on my must-visit list for Santa Barbara, and I plan to load up on their delicious breads every time I'm in town. It's not just a bakery, it's an experience - one that I highly recommend to anyone visiting or living in Santa Barbara In summary, Oat Bakery is a delightful discovery with its excellent vegan bread options and cozy ambiance, making it a must-visit for anyone in Santa Barbara looking for fresh, warm, and tasty bakery items. There are no seating areas. You wait in line, get in, select, buy and leave happy!!!
As a bread enthusiast, I love this place. The sage garlic loaf was so delicious I ate the whole thing in one sitting. Decent price for fancy bread (~$7-13), very tasty. Bit of a longer line, maybe 15-20 minute wait at 11:30am
Best find in Santa Barbara!!! We were lucky to be staying a couple doors down and happened to walk into this cute little bakery. The women that work there are just so lovely and you get to see them at work making their breads. We really enjoyed the sweets. They use a date paste instead of sugar and later I found out they are vegan also. You MUST try the Hygge bun which is like a little cinnamon roll baked fresh daily and warm from the oven😋We went every day for breakfast and even brought some home to put in the freezer. This was like a dream for me since I cannot have sugar cane or dairy so I usually am not able to get sweets. Absolutely THE best!
@live_beautifullee and I discovered a bread spot in Santa Barbara called @oat_bakery. We ordered the Rosemary Focaccia with Castelvetrano Olives, Savory Hygge and Sage Garlic 🧄The Rosemary Focaccia with Olives was our favorite followed by the Sage Garlic. Everything though was 🔥 and worth a stop if you’re in Santa Barbara.
We were strolling through the Santa Barbara downtown and literally the amazing fresh baked bread smell made us take a detour into the bakery. Not surprised, there were all kinds of freshly baked breads on the display. For my love for bread combined with irresistible options, I got carried away and bought bunch of loafs which I couldn't wait to get back home to bay area to try them all. Definitely all star. If you are into breads then must try if you are around the area. Great taste!
What a surprise treasure in Santa Barbara! We were walking on the State street and came across with this cute bakery. Their Hygge Bun (the cinnamon bun) was so delicious that we would love to visit the city again only for that! 👍🏻
7-7-21: Love the bread and the hygge (delicious treat like a cinnamon roll). Also took home a sourdough loaf and a date with almond loaf. Both were just exceptional. Texture was nice and crunchy with good chewiness. Flavor of both were excellent! Had the hygge with coffee and it was perfect with my morning ☕. Next time I am in town, I will definitely stop by for more delicious bread! Note: I wish I also bought the shitakke mushroom 🍄 and shallot loaf too 😋. That sounds great right now.
OMG the bread! The bread is to die for. Quite possibly the best bread I've ever had.i also had a flaky pastry that I THINK is called a frosnapper. Filled with marzipan, it's also loaded with both sesame and poppy seeds and is yummy yummy yummy. I only remembered to take a pic when there was just a bite left.
This bakery makes you realize that “this is the way that bread should be made!” I was blown away by the texture and flavors of the bread. They take such pride in the quality of their product. Taking time to explain the different breads and how they are made is a benefit of visiting this bakery. The line to get some bread shows that they have a huge following and people love their product. I would highly recommend coming here. It is a must visit!

One of our new favorite spots in Santa Barbara. The sesame twist was incredible, as was the morning bun. We got a loaf of sesame sourdough, which was warm and had just come out of the oven. Absolutely incredible. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, no complaints whatsoever!
Came close to closing. Very creative sourdoughs (shittake scallion for example) I loved the seeded cookie as well very healthy and tasty. Would recommend anyone who appreciates good baking to stop by
First timer and YUM 😋 I really liked the gluten free seed bread. Lots of different seeds with a smooth texture and paired well with their jalapeño basil cashew spread. The loaf is heavy and dense, but maintained its moisture quite well. Hubby loved the morning bun. We also loved the sourdough and focaccia. Looking forward to trying new breads and spreads next time. The bakers all seemed pleasant on an early Saturday morning. Highly recommend!
I want to give them 5 out of 5 star + hilarious feedback. Everything that we bought was amazingly delicious and baked meticulously. I cannot express my feelings guys. You must stop by this bakery if have a chance.

Amazing unique scandinavian danishes. We went to the Oat bakery in Montecito first then found that they've sold out on one of the breads we were wanting to try, the frosnapper. Luckily the downtown branch had a few left so we hurried over to this one. It is good to know that there's several oat bakeries in the area and they may all carry different items. All the breads were good.
Wow, where to begin?! The array of delicious breads are so tempting. The seeded and charcoal sourdough are some of our favorites as are the gluten-free cookie with seeds and chocolate… And that focaccia wow the olive focaccia or their farmers specialty. Our daughter lives in Paris and we spend a lot of time there so we get to taste a lot of good bread Still the oat bakery in our sweet town make some of the best bread bar none in the world And let’s talk about the spreads… They are so good. You have a variety of different organic spreads that might have some chives or truffle… Whether you are plant-based or not, you will be happy to know they are completely plant based no dairy and easy on the heart and the digestive system Sometimes I go there just for the spread, but of course walk away with the bread too
While on a roadtrip last June 2024 we were checking out a lot of local cafes and bakeries, specifically looking for pretzels. This place didnt have them but they did have a lot of sweet and savory items worth trying. A european style bakery that serves a diverse selection of baked items that have loads of sweet or savory fillings or ingredients. Each item is pretty much a meal on its own. Counter staff were friendly and helful. Establishment was pretty with a very small tiwn european vibe like those often seen at Greece or Italy Mostly for takeaways.

We stopped in excited to try the bread and got the olive focaccia. Just a note: prices aren't displayed, so expect $10 for a "full" order (two slices) or $5 for one. The focaccia was above average, but with other excellent options in the San Francisco area—Fournée, Forma, La Farine, Nabolom, Acme, Arsicault- it didn't quite stand out. The pastries looked appealing, though nothing that particularly grabbed us. If you're willing to pay pastry prices for bread, this is your place.
