We were going to go somewhere else for lunch until our uber driver Hugo said this was a local gem! So happy we went here instead the food was amazing , service excellent & such a fun atmosphere! Ordered tri tip sandwich & coconut shrimp.
Wow!! What great food! My wife had an Ideal top sirloin that was tender and cooked to perfection! My salad with oak grilled chicken was excellent! We look forward to visiting again.
Fast and accurate service, I loved the atmosphere! The food was delicious! The pasta is amazing! We were not rushed when done eating would recommend!
The coconut shrimp appetizer was delicious. They were big and very savory with the honey sauce. Great chicken sandwhich. The chicken was tender and soft. The chicken alfredo could have been better with some sauteed mushrooms. The veggies it came with was just zuchini and yellow squash. We got the chocolate cake and mud pie for dessert and we mixed both and it gave it a nice Lindr Lindor milk chocolate flavor. Very good service and atmosphere. We would come again.
Cute and quaint, this wood-paneled pub has a very "local spot" feel with bar, high top, and traditional dining room seating. Their menu had a lot of options including healthier ones for those who are carb-conscious. Veggies were cooked to perfection as were our steaks and stuffed pork chop. The entrees and sides were delicious and I couldn't get enough of the jalapeño mac and cheese. If you're visiting the Santa Maria area for the food and wine or just passing through, you should definitely stop in!
I was in Santa Maria for the first time. I asked the Santa Maria people in the class where to go for tri-tip, since tri-tip originated in Santa Maria. The Swiss Restaurant was a near unanimous recommendation. I went for lunch. I got the half-pound tri-tip sandwich with onion rings as my side; it also comes with a side of pinquito beans. Your sandwich comes with a ramekin of salsa. They make their own onion rings; they were fantastic. The tri-tip sandwich was one of the best I’ve ever had. I don’t know how to describe the salsa other than to say it’s very, very flavorful; it does not have very much heat, which is perfect for this sandwich. The bread was great — fresh, stood up to the liquid that came off the salsa without falling apart. I liked it so much I went back two days later for dinner. I got the same sandwich and it was just as good. Dinner comes with soup or salad; I ordered the broccoli cheddar soup, which is made from scratch; excellent. The garlic mashed potatoes didn’t have enough garlic for my taste, but they were good and obviously made from scratch. I highly recommend The Swiss for their tri-tip sandwich!
This is a great meal, every time. There isn’t an entree I don’t recommend and my favorite dish, an appetizer, is the artichoke. For BBQ fans order this and understand why SM style BBQ is simply the bast in the world. No distractions from rubs or sauce, this is BBQ in its purest form, meat over a red oak flame. This is God’s BBQ.
I brought my whole family of 5. We loved the food, and the services were great. If you like steak, I highly recommend the filleminon, I ordered the 16-oz ribs eye, and it was great. Next time, I will order medium well. My son had the salmon, and it disappeared. Overall, it was a great experience. It was a little noisy and overwhelming for me, kinda set off my PTSD. But I would say 5 star. PS the try tip sandwich great.
Have been coming to the Swiss for years. I grew up 3 blocks away! Another great meal at the Swiss It was our anniversary , I had the 14oz top sirloin with garlic mashed and my wife had the wonderful Rib Eye salad, done in the world famous Santa Maria Style BBQ! Soooooooo Gooooood! Service was great as usual and we had fantastic Old Fashioned drinks with our dinner. We will be back sooner than later!
There are a number of local steakhouses in Santa Maria and they are all good-- including this one. The Swiss is north of Main St which makes it unique. The atmosphere at first feels a little bleh, compared to its competition, but the food is on an equal footing. So, I guess in summary, this is a slightly more affordable but less classy version of the typical Santa Maria steakhouse.
My first visit to The Swiss, and I'm a fan. My servers were Sandy and Sonia, and they were awesome! Amazing service and wonderful food. All meat is cut and aged inhouse. The steak fries and onion rings were worth the visit alone. My entre was served with locally sourced Pintoquito Beans... delicious! I went with salad over the soup. Fresh spring mix with a very nice Bleu Cheese dressing. My steak was a perfect medium. The flavor is so good you're not going to want to use any steak sauce on these meats. Definitely a recommend on this one.
when we came in it was just like normal we got sat to our seats and waited to get our drinks. the first waiter that got us our drink was amazing he listened and didn’t need any corrections. then when we got to the part when we ordered our food went kind of downhill the waiter we had kept messing up on my food they kept putting the wrong food and it wasn’t very loud in there . we also got appetizers and the bread was kind of hard not like normal. then we got a refill the waiter walked away mid sentence and on one of the other drinks they put way to much grenadine. but yeah they didn’t really listen very well and didn’t do as well as normal. although i will be coming back
Expect to pay $30-$50 per steak dinner with a side (baked potato not included). The flavors are great but the cook temp is not always perfect (my medium rare was a little more medium than I wanted). It's a small place with decent service, and good food. You'll pay 5 star prices for a place that's just not entirely 5 stars on its own. No major complaints at all (burgers are great).
I grew up on the Central Coast and had never heard of this restaurant! Was very surprised at how much I liked it. Decent prices and my steak was cooked perfectly. My 14oz top sirloin came with beans, salsa, bread and a side for $35. Only complaint was the service and the order they bring stuff out in….they were friendly but not super on top of things and really had a hard time with our onion ring orders. Would definitely recommend!
We got the chicken pesto mozzarella sandwich and a tri tip sandwich on garlic bread with mac and cheese and veggies as the sides. The chicken sandwich was quite tasty and juicy. There was not too much pesto so you could actually taste the other ingredients. The tri tip was bland, thankfully it was on the garlic bread so there was so actual flavor. The veggies were water logged. But the Mac and cheese would be the delight of any child.
This goes against popular belief, however I wasn't a fan. The service was excellent, that wasn't my problem, my problem was the actual food. Granted I could have gone on an off night, but I won't be trying it again. We made the 1 hour drive, because so many people were raving about "The Swiss"! Ok, so here goes my food experience at The Swiss. I ordered the Filet Mignon and Lobster tail $65. My steak came over cooked and the lobster tail was also over done and chewy. The flavor on my overcooked steak was good, but because of the over cook it had a grainy texture. Not what a filet should be, but My husband who ordered the 10oz Filet Mignon was bland, no seasoning, but cooked perfect. We ordered the Grilled Artichoke for an appetizer and that was completely water logged. The sauce was yummy. The Santa Maria style beans were bland and the garlic bread was smashed and flavorless and the fettuccine alfredo was like a brick. So all in all I wasn't happy. Like I said it could have been an off night, but taking the chance on another 1 hour drive to try it a second time will not be happening.
I was just at the restaurant and not quite sure what happened. I was sat, someone gave me water about 5 mins later, then no one came by for more than 10 mins that I gave up and walked out. Mind you, there was a lot going on next to me and around with food being served and orders taken. I guess I must have been invisible, or something. What made this really odd is that I am in town from Orange County on business and the restaurant was very highly recommended by the hotel staff. I am sure the food is delicious but I must have come on an off night! I am just angry and feel like I was made to feel "invisible". I ended up going to Chick-Fil-A down the street from them and made do with fast food. Maybe I'll give them another shot before I leave town.i hope I'm wrong and just caught them on a bad night.
Took my wife for her birthday dinner lastnight, service was great everyone was very nice but my bbq blue was terrible. The chicken was dry the ham they stuffed it with was bad the Rice pilaf was horrible like how do u mess up rice?! My wife got a 14oz steak which she loved and that’s all that matters to me. Was just really shocked how bad my meal was I mean it was 33 bucks!
Extremely disappointing and unsettling experience. On November 15th, I ordered the maple-glazed salmon. After leaving the restaurant and beginning to eat the meal at my hotel, I discovered a worm-like parasite in the fish. I took a clear photo of it and later confirmed through an AI identification platform that it was indeed a fish parasite. I immediately contacted the restaurant and spoke with Juan, who apologized and committed to refunding the meal, stating that a manager would call me that night. No call came. I followed up the next day and was instead offered a $35 gift card, despite already being told I would receive a refund. I accepted the gift card and I was again promised a call from management—another promise that was not kept. After being ignored, I went to the restaurant in person and was greeted by Sonia. The owner, Joannewas contacted and refused to issue a refund, saying the only option was to remake the meal. After finding a parasite in my food, that response was unacceptable. I was also told that Juan “did not have authority” to offer a refund—despite the restaurant standing by his word initially. This was not just a food safety issue—it was a failure of accountability and customer service at every level. Broken promises, no follow-up, and ownership unwilling to take responsibility. I will be attaching the photo to this review so others can judge for themselves.
We truly love The Swiss and have been coming every other week for our date night. With three little ones at home, getting away is rare for us — so our visits here always feel special. Unfortunately, our experience tonight fell short of what we’re used to. We ordered our steaks medium rare, but they arrived very overcooked — closer to medium well and quite dry. It was about 10 minutes before our server checked back in, so we didn’t have the chance to have them corrected. I ended up adding ranch just to try to make mine more enjoyable, and my husband took his home. The scalloped potatoes also weren’t fully cooked. Our server apologized when we mentioned it, but there was no follow-up beyond that. We’re disappointed because this is usually one of our favorite places, and we’ve always had great meals here. We hope this was just an off night, because we really do love coming and would like to continue doing so.
