I had a great experience dining here. I came for dinner and all the dishes I ordered were fresh and delicious. The walnut prawns are made with a very good sauce which paired nicely with rice. I also enjoyed the chow mien and hot and sour soup. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, and the server was sweet and helpful. I will be coming here again!

Hands down the best Chinese food around. I love the basil chicken and hot and sour soup. Everything is amazing though you can't go wrong no matter what you order

Are you Serious!!! Now open Mondays! Virtually every Chinese Restaurant is closed on Mondays for what I thought to be cultural reasons cause....why wouldn't a popular restaurant be open on Mondays? Now the search is over. Royal China has been on top of their game for over a decade keeping top notch chefs to prepare authentic, no corporate filler ingredients, and fresh farm to table produce and meats to make the best Chinese dishes in town. And with a welcoming yet intimate modern ambience, this is a perfect place for business, family dinners, or intimate date nights. Hope you enjoy the new 7 days a week menu. Thank you Royal China for being so consistent with your quality of food and service.

Great food great atmosphere. Waitress is a little bit awkward with communication but I took my food to go so it didn't matter that much. Great place for Chinese food though.

The restaurant is always beautiful and professional, the staff is well trained and courteous, the food is superior and the feeling I get when I leave there is nothing shory of wonderful and full. Money well spent. Susan is the most accommodating manager there. Thank u royal China. We will return!

Really good food. It's not super-cheap, but you get a lot of food for the price. My family swears by the Egg Foo Young, but the real gem is the Orange Peel Chicken. It's leagues beyond fast food Orange Chicken, and it's better than the orange chicken at all the other Chinese restaurants I've been to. Highly recommended, and the atmosphere inside is very nice, not at all what you'd expect from the outside. EDIT: Since their remodel in 2016, it's even nicer!

Everything about our visit was great, and we'll definitely be back. It's American or east coast Chinese food (so all the fried chicken dishes are white meat, which I love). Waiter was very attentive, helpful, and friendly. Portions large. I thought it would be dimly lit/romantic inside, but it was actually fairly bright, ah well, but still the decor is beautiful.

Considered some of the absolute best Chinese food in Sonoma County. We have been enjoying Royal China since they opened. They have super fresh food & are consistent with their quality. Shown are the Beef Skewers & Sampler Plate from the dinner menu. The Spicy Green Beans, sweet-and-sour pork, cashew nut prawns & Mongolian chicken are from the lunch menu. You can request the more extensive dinner menu for lunch if you like. Do not forget to ask for the Hot Mustard!

Nice Chinese restaurant tucked away inside one of my favorite shopping centers - love Best Day Spa for massages, and Dollar Tree for deals! Came here to celebrate my girlfriend's retirement as it's her favorite Chinese place to eat. Nice atmosphere, good service, clean, comfortable seating, good food and fun decor. I had Sweet and Sour chicken. Good portion and tasty!

Royal China Restaurant is one of our go-to spots for consistently great Chinese food. The food is always fresh, hot, and flavorful—and the quality never disappoints. Portions are generous without being overwhelming, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We’ve dined here multiple times and the experience is always dependable. Highly recommended!

This place has amazing food. Taste was awesome. The service was great. I have not had great Chinese food like this for quite some time. Would highly recommend. I also enjoyed that the food was not over seasoned with soy sauce or other seasons so that you could really taste the flavor. Also had best ingredients such as the seasame chicken was only whole white meat. Not bits and pieces of chicken.

Pros: The food was great. I ordered the Basil Lamb and it was one of the best dishes I've had; light crunch on lamb, basil truly was the hero. My mother's orange chicken was cooked akin to battered fish, with great sauce and presentation. A winner. Cons: Their vegetarian options were really limited for my uncle, and what was served was an oily mess. The server was very rushed and impatient, but it looked like she was running a marathon solo too. Hard to gauge what it would be under better staffing.

The Hostess had my order ready and knew it was mine when I got there. Nice!! Meat is real chewy, really tenderized or fatty I can't tell for sure. Very good though lots of sauce.

First time here. There are many Chinese restaurants in Santa Rosa so I had not tried Royal China even though it has been here for many years. I went for lunch on a weekday and though the place was busy, nobody had to wait as a couple of tables and seats at the bar were always available. Lunch specials are varied and the included hot and sour soup is excellent. One lunch party was loud and boisterous but as soon as they left, the overall noise level dropped back down to normal though it wasn't unpleasant. Our server was very good, the decor is subdued and pleasant and I would definitely be happy to return.

I hate to do it but I had to change my review I have been coming here for many years! Before there big renovation before my 7 year old daughter was born , there food never disappointed but the last three times I have gone it’s not the same the potsticker tasted like they where loaded with ginger and the orange chicken (our usual order for 8 years) is not good I hoped it was just a bad batch but it seems to be continuous.

I was there with my family of five last night. We each ordered an entree to share and rice. The potsticker appetizers were gummy inside; not cooked enough. The entrees were all just okay. Nothing stood out as exceptional and the serving sizes were slight. Several order tea to drink and got a glass mug of hot water with a large tea strainer in it. There was no small plate to set the tea strainer on. And we missed the pots of hot tea and small cups that many restaurants serve. The food was fresh but lacked much flavor. To top it off, I woke with a headache probably from the MSG used. There are other Chinese restaurants in town. Next time I'll try somewhere else.

The Szechuan chicken is terrible here. One of the worst ones I have ever had. I would avoid any of the deep fried chicken options on their menu as they are very poorly done. Other options are not so bad.

J
JanSarah

I gave 3 stars to strike a rating balance between the walnut prawns being very tasty and the vegetable chow mein being practically inedible. To me, chow mein is comfort food and I ordered it as a treat and I do not know how they made it taste so poorly. Burnt oil taste? No lovely flavors, no enjoyment at all. They are aware and offered to replace it, but it was so bad last night, I won't want to try their chow mein again.

This was been my favorite Chinese restaurant for years. Granted we have not eaten at or even ordered takeout much for the past year, so I was excited to order. I got my favorite lemon chicken. It was terrible! I am of sure if the oil they used was on the. Edge of going rancid, or they used something weird in the flour, but it was so bad I had to give it to the dogs after eating two little pieces. It was so tough I had to use my knife to cut the pieces I did eat. The chowmein was fine. I hope it was just an off night for the cooks. I will probably try it one more time, because they have been fairly consistent over the years.

We ordered take out last Sunday and while the food was okay, I wouldn't say its fabulous. My favorite Orange Chicken was a disappointment (lacking major "orange" favor) and Kung Pao Chicken although asked for extra spicy...it was not! The best thing we ordered was the hot and spicy soup, really good! Most of everything else was quite bland. ! They have really increased prices quite a bit so that was sticker shock! I also found it difficult to see a current menu online as they don't have a website. I'm attaching one and added the date. We've been coming here for years but not sure I'll be back. I think location and convenience (and of course good food) is what draws folks to a certain place....but next time I may have to drive across town!

This was the last time I will eat here. I ordered 2 dishes and some plain rice, came 40$, and the food was truly 🤢 gross. I wished i had remembered from the last time about a year ago, that thry use the worst batter to deep fry thier chicken and prawn dishes. Its thick, doughy, and not fried long enough, resulting in mushy, dough like and not at all crispy like it should be. So ate a few bites and started feeling that sick feeling in my stomach so I went back to them and said I wasn’t at all happy with what I received and that I didn’t want my money back just make me another dish that is not fried ….simple…..Not at all!! They kept giving me the runaround, saying their was not manager today etc. So this one really nice server said no problem, what would you like in place of what you had. So I ordered a non battered item, and told her that if the item was cheaper, im not desiring a refund of the difference, Just then, out of nowhere, a manager appears and stops her from doing the exchange, and was going to charge me again!! At this point I started to become disgruntled but she did not budge one bit and insisted since i already had some of one of the dishes, that she would not accept a trade out for another, so i caved and just asked if she would sub one of the dishes…..finally after much haggling and embarrassment in front of other customers, she offered another dish, a chicken and green bean dish. Well i got it home and couldn’t believe my eyes…. It was mostly ALL ouly greasy, overcooked green beans and small pieces of thin, overly sweet, chicken😔….. I know she instructed the cook to do that just to smite me. Not doing this again. I know this place gets good reviews, and has a bit fancier interior than some other Chinese, but the food is quite poor imo, Everything is so over sweet and any fried food is gross, they don’t have anything truly outstanding, and prices are generally higher than thier better competitors. Here is two that are outstanding: Ting Hau ( 4th st) Hang Ah Dim Sum (Armory Dr) These are both fresh, org ingredients and far less sugary and starchy.

This place was okay, not nearly as good as it was hyped up to be on the Sonoma County Foodies Facebook page. I asked the woman working if one order of bbq pork fried rice was enough for 2 people, and she insisted that it wasn't, so we ordered two. Once we got our food, we quickly realized that we were misled, and one order of rice could easily serve 3 people. I'm only disappointed because when I spend $60 on food, I expect it to be delicious. We also ordered their sweet and sour chicken and potstickers. Okay but not great.

Went out on New Year’s Eve to have a nice outing and dinner to royal china. The place is beautiful and the food is wonderful but the service is not welcoming. Especially the bar tender lady. She’s not friendly never smiles and if she does I wouldn’t know because she’s always wearing a mask. She never asks if you want another drink, you’re the one that has to ask for it, and when you do you feel like it’s an inconvenience to her. Please get as really bartender that makes you feel welcome and attentive to their customers. Loose the mask as well not welcoming at all!!

The original owner Tina retired and sold the business about two years ago. Since then it has really gone downhill. This used to be a five star restaurant with excellent food. A go to place to meet your friends and family and have a good chinese meal. There was always a line waiting to get in. Not true anymore. I don't know what happened. It seems like the chef must have left with Tina. The food had no flavor at all, and it seems like the food quality was low. The cook is not good. The owner must be trying to save money by skimping on quality. I do not recommend this restaurant. I used to love it, but this visit was a disappointing experience, and I don't think they're going to be able to step it up. There were hardly any customers in the restaurant when back in the day every table was full. I hope they make it, but I have to be honest, it is not good. Our waiter was friendly and he was good. But that did not make up for the horrible food. There was no flavor at all. Chinese food usually has a lot of flavor and spice. There was none. The furniture was old and worn out. The fabric on the chairs was torn. It is not what it used to be.

Something happened! Last several times during the past two years the food was always good. On Monday night, October 28th, 2025 the food was extremely disappointing. Wontons in soup were falling apart, and the broth was flavorless. Sweet and sour pork was like a sweet and sweet stew, and the pork coating was mush. The Staters combo was soggy.

My wife & I had lunch today at Royal China, & unfortunately I have to agree with the recent review by Michael NitrosMike McPherson. The food has continued a downward spiral in flavor & quality from what I formerly concidered the best Chinese restaurant in the area. In a response to Michael’s review, the owners claimed no changes in ownership or in the chef. All I know is that Tina & Andy are no longer there to greet us with their energy & wonderful dining experience. Andy was the chef & is no longer there — I even told two staff members today that they need to bring Andy back to re-teach them how the prepare good food. I won’t be returning, & now need to begin my search all over again for good local Chinese food.

My potstickers was very doughy, and when I got done eating, I had a lightweight stomach ache so I don’t know if my food was cooked all the way. I don’t know if I would recommend this restaurant. I ordered the walnut shrimp, chicken, chow mein, and the potstickers. If you asked me, it was kind of done a little too quick

Decent food, extremely poor management. Wrong orders, missing prepaid orders with no record of the payment, prescheduled orders not started until people arrive causing >90 minute delays. I've finally stopped telling myself "This time they'll have their act together" and cannot recommend for anything other than an off-hours lunch visit when there are few customers, minimizing the impact of mismanagement.

I've eaten here for 8 years. Three days ago I ordered take out and had a $59 bill. The food tasted so bad I ended up throwing it all away. I believe it is under new ownership. All 4 dishes I ordered were inedible. It used to be the best in the area. Needless to say, I won't be returning. The fried rice was made with rancid oil. I love to cook and do a lot of it. Bad ingredients create bad food. I wish them the best. I hope they read this and are open to making some changes.

J

The food was disgusting, mushy, saturated in oil, and slimy. The restaurant has the design aspects of the fun house at the county fair. The atmosphere made me happy we were getting our food to go. The service was alright. The greeter said thank you multiple times for no reason, and it was confusing. I honestly don't understand how a place like this is still open.

B

Our party was 5 adults and an infant, but we were charged a gratuity as if it was a 6-person table, despite only being given 5 menus, 5 waters, 5 servings of rice, etc. I tipped the waiter personally in cash, and HE DID NOT INFORM ME OF THE GRATUITY, essentially stealing $40. I don’t think I’ll be dining there again since there’s a good likelihood that I will be stolen from.

We have gone here for nearly a decade, and love their food. Their service and management has tanked. I normally give a lot of grace for busy restaurants and on holidays, but we ordered and prepaid for our Christmas take out dinner, 2 days in advance. Pick up time was 430pm and by 6pm they had repeatedly ignored my husband checking in, in person, and no word on when the food would be ready. He was there at 430pm. Meanwhile, my friend was seated in the restaurant at 4pm with her family and got their food in 20min, then took a to go order afterwards, and left while my husband was still waiting. I get being busy, but no your limits and at LEAST manage your pre-orders for people you’ve already taken payment for. They won’t talk to my husband in person, and they won’t answer the phone, so here lies the review. They really need to figure out how to manage service to match their food quality. This really sucks on Christmas!

⭐☆☆☆☆ A Royal Disappointment: The Culinary equivalent of a Wet Fortune Cookie Let me be perfectly clear: I have eaten questionable food from street vendors in foreign countries with less trepidation than I felt consuming my meal at Royal China. The "Royal" in the name must be a reference to the sheer audacity it takes to serve food this tragically mediocre and charge money for it. My journey into this gastronomic abyss began with hope. The restaurant is unassuming, which in retrospect should have been my first clue. We started with the Pork Dumplings. The menu called them "juicy." The kitchen, however, apparently interpreted "juicy" as "a desiccated wad of spiced cardboard encased in a doughy, leaden purse." They arrived lukewarm, with a dipping sauce that tasted like soy sauce cut with tap water and regret. For my main, I ventured for the Kung Pao Chicken, a classic dish that should sing with the harmonious flavors of chili, peanut, and a hint of sweetness. What arrived was a crime scene on a plate. The chicken had the rubbery, springy texture of a poorly made eraser, suggesting it had taken a long, sad journey from freezer to wok. The peanuts were so stale they had lost their crunch and taken on a faintly bitter, rancid quality. And the sauce? It was a gloopy, one-note assault of sugar and cornstarch, completely devoid of any heat or complexity. It was less "Kung Pao" and more "vaguely brown, sweet sludge." My dining companion, in a fit of optimism, ordered the Beef with Broccoli. The broccoli was a depressing, olive-drab mush, having been boiled into submission long before it ever saw the wok. The beef was so tough and stringy it required a concerted effort to chew, turning what should have been a pleasant meal into a jaw workout. The entire dish was swimming in a salty, generic brown sauce that could have been ladled onto anything from shoe leather to actual broccoli with the same lack of distinction. The Fried Rice was an afterthought in every sense of the word. It was the bland, clumpy white rice from the bottom of the pot, tossed with a few frozen peas and carrots and a single, lonely strand of scrambled egg. It had no wok hei, no soul, no reason for existing other than to take up space on the plate. The final insult wasn't just the food, but the sheer apathy it represented. This wasn't food prepared with care or passion; it was food assembled with a profound sense of "good enough." Every bite tasted like the chef had given up on life years ago and the kitchen was just going through the motions. In summary, Royal China Santa Rosa serves food that is not just bad; it's profoundly forgettable and yet, somehow, memorably terrible. You will leave not angry, but sad—sad for the ingredients that died in vain, sad for your taste buds, and sad for the money you will never get back. Do yourself a favor: drive past Royal China. Go to the grocery store, buy a frozen dinner, and eat it in your car. I promise you, it will be a more authentic and satisfying culinary experience.

Terrible food, very disappointing. Sweet and sour pork tasted rancid, pot stickers were doughy and uncooked. Do NOT recommend, will NOT being going here again.

We have not eaten here before & decided to try Royal China Chinese food because of the high star ratings. We ordered potstickers & several other items on 2/14/26. We ate the potstickers only on 2/15/26 & both my husband and I had diarrhea for 3 straight days. We are not sick otherwise. We won't be back. Very disappointed
