Opinions de Our Plates Saranac Lake
Amazing food! We got the fried chicken plate, large plate with pork and a salad. Great flavor, would come back again when I’m in the area!
Our server was so friendly and warm, such a pleasure to talk to! The food was delicious! I ordered a small plate and it was still a very generous amount of food. The chinola was on point too. So glad we found this gem!
Absolute gem. Stopped by today going through town. Food is so good, and very reasonably priced! Had the medium sized rice, black beans, salad and stewed chicken and it was more than plentiful. Our server was a lovely woman who couldn't have been friendlier. Highly recommend a visit!
Saranac Lake has a lot of excellent restaurants, but if you're only in town long enough to go to one place, this is it. The food is amazing and reasonably priced, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed. I can personally vouch for the Cubano. I let my kid try my red beans and I had to take them back because she was going to eat them all.
Incredible gem in town if you’re looking for something outside of the usual pub grub. I had the small platter with stewed chicken, yellow rice and beans and salad. It rivaled anything I’ve had at authentic spots in Brooklyn. Girlfriend had the Cuban that was equally as excellent. Staff were helpful and amazing and food came out extremely quick. Lots of takeout going out the door which is another good sign. Cant recommend enough if you’re in the area.
The most amazing jerk chicken I have ever tasted. The waitress was super nice and friendly. And even though she was the only one managing at least 6-7 customers, she did it with a smile on her face! Highly recommend this small eatery in the quant little town.
As someone from Tampa who is definitely picky about Latin food and especially Cuban sandwiches, I was so impressed with this restaurant! My boyfriend and I ordered the Cuban sandwich with plantains and stewed chicken with the yellow rice and beans special and it was out of this world! Insanely good food and generous portions. We can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu options!
THE restaurant we come to when visiting Saranac Lake. Loaded tostones, plates, spicy chicken with mac…everything is excellent. And the folks there are so friendly. Can’t wait to go back and I still have leftovers in the fridge.
Casual chill vibe inside. Friendly, helpful service with a smile and patient with me while I asked about the menu. Great customer service. I ordered the stewed beef, yellow rice with red beans, & cabbage salad which was light& crunchy. The meal was excellent...flavor on flav. Sweet plantains that were so delightful, I'm still licking my lips! Collard greens were LEGIT! I ordered the large plate to go with extras because while my tribe members went out to get wings, they'll regret NOT "flying" over to this gem in Saranac lake and I had to let them know what yumminess they missed! A+++
I nearly cried when I first came here- the colors, smells and music reminded me of home! I grew up downtown Buffalo surrounded by culture and delicious meals from all over the world- soul food and Caribbean has a major soft spot in my heart! Grits baby! Delicious food, friendly vibes all around. Truly a rare gem in this community - I’m so excited to see this place create! Thank you so much, blessings
This is the best restaurant in town! We get food there at least twice a month. Great food, great service and great prices!
Excellent food and a warm welcoming ambience! I had the combo platter entree and my wife had the fried grouper dinner. The seasoning on the grouper was perfect! Reasonable prices, and a good selection of entrees and specials.
The owner is such a fun guy!!! One of the best atphosmeres I've ever seen. Also the food literally changed me it was so good.
The cubano and sweet plantains I ordered were some of the best I've ever eaten. The yuka fries were also wonderful. I also appreciated the selection of delicious sauces!! Plus, the staff were so lovely and helpful!
We were in Lake Placid for 2 weeks and wanted to eat something that wasn’t “traditional”. We stumbled on Our Plates and ate here 2 times in a week. The owners Ricky and Charles were so welcoming. The food is fantastic. Red beans, rice, roasted pork and a slaw salad. We also tried their loaded tostones and highly recommend. If you are in the area and looking for a fantastic home made dinner and that feels like a warm hug stop on by. To the owners…Keep up the great work! We will be back!
Without a question the best rice and beans I've ever had, perfectly tender chicken and a great cabbage salad. The service was impeccable and they asked if I wanted cilantro free options. The Mac and cheese is the best comfort food imaginable. Great people and food!
Love the fried chicken and the tostones are sooo good! Very friendly and helpful when ordering if you’re new to the menu.
We eat here weekly and have never been disappointed. We order the loaded tostones every visit as well as a plate with their special rice of the day and beans. Stewed chicken, jerk chicken and pork is always great. This place is a breath of fresh air in a town that mostly serves the same thing at every other establishment. Hands down the best food in Saranac Lake. We lived in Miami for a long time, so we’re happy to have some flavor and spice back in our lives.
Simply one of the best places to dine within 5 hours any direction! The loaded tostones with pork keep us coming back again and again! Not to mention the friendly smiles and hospitable service from The CHEF to the hostess/server. Legit Dominican/Soul food in Saranac Lake
The only thing better than the food was our waitress who was extremely genuine and knew her stuff. She sold my wife and I on food suggestions and which sides we should get with our entrees and exactly why the flavors match. As for the food, it was delicious! The sandwiches were large, but light. So tasty, but not overly filling. Very happy with this. We would absolutely visit again. Thank you!
Was in the mood for something different and found Our Plates. I enjoyed the food and vibe of the place and the chef is a Veteran that is very engaging. Give it a try.
The stew chicken, red beans and rice of the day 👌🏼 excellent. The owner/head chef is a very personable guy and wants you to make sure you’re full of good food. The slaw is freaking amazing!
Had a good feeling about Our Plates after looking online and boy am I impressed! Had a great conversation with the executive chef and he served up a delicious roast pork plate with beans, rice & salad- All for an affordable price. The inside of the restaurant has great vibes and would be a great place for a family to come eat or to stop in for a delicious lunch on your work break. 5 STARS!
Such a wonderful restaurant! My family came in for lunch and had a tasty feast! We ordered crispy chichirones, fried plantains, as well as the chicken and waffles, the Cuban, the spicy chicken cuban and of course, the tres leches cake! The food was delicious and I would absolutely recommend Our Plates to all!
Visited from Queens. Absolutely top tier for food choices around Lake Saranac
The food was amazing, it was beautifully seasoned and the owner is super nice and is very welcoming the prices are very reasonable for how much food you get, this is 100% the place to go in Saranac lake and I'll absolutely be returning
LOVED it! My friends and I came and loved our food so much we ordered even more for takeout. The loaded tostones with shrimp is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten! The housemade passion fruit drink was sweet and delicious as well. Service was also so friendly! Will be back every time I’m in Saranac Lake!
Absolutely delicious authentic Dominican food. Everything was fresh, savory, well seasoned and clearly made with love. Certainly a hidden gem in the Adirondacks and would definitely recommend and will be back soon!
What a great meal and experience we had at Our Plates. The owner chef and waitress immediately made us feel right at home and promptly served up delicious healthy meals, all for a very reasonable price. We loved the stewed and jerk chicken plates as well as the roasted pork and corn waffles and fried chicken. We'll be back!
Serving up a delectable, eclectic array of Carribean and Southern Soul Food inspired dishes, Our Plates is an unassuming gem in the heart of Saranac Lake. The proprietor and staff were warm and friendly, and provided generous portions-- some of the best fried chicken we've had in years, with delightfully tasty accents like Yuca fries and plantains. The only downside to "Our Place" is that we'll be hard-pressed to try eating anywhere else next time we're in town!
I stopped in Wednesday 2/7/24.. to be honest, I walked by on my way to a different restaurant that was recommended by someone. Luckily, that restaurant was closed. I turned around and immediately knew where I was going, and I am so glad the other place was closed. First off the owners family is there behind the counter and involved every step of the way. Their passion comes out in the taste of their food. While I was waiting for my food to be prepared, the conversation was great. It’s a family run business the family has been around the area for 30+ years and they wanted to bring Different flavor Which is based off of what they grew up on. I was going to just get finger foods and take it back to the room that I was staying in the empanadas were divine. They were Pleasantly filled and the shell so to speak was very light yet crispy. The plantains were perfectly done and not soggy whatsoever. The Cubano had amazing flavor and a very nice crispy, toasted bread. The mac & cheese was flavored very nicely, and it certainly was not soggy whatsoever. It was just like it was made for me. If you’re in town and you’re not sure where to go and you’re tired of the typical restaurant bar scene stop in and check these guys out you won’t be disappointed.
Made a special stop here to get the load tostones and was not disappointed! I got them with pork, which their pork is delicious even if you get a small plate, get the pork!!! There were a lot of people calling ahead to get their orders for takeout.
We had the Cuban Sandwich and the Bistec Encebollada. The food tasted so good, well seasoned, and completely authentic Dominican food. By far, the best food I had during my stay in the Adorindack Mountains.

This place is adorable inside and the food is out of this world. Truly an amazing find in Saranac Lake. The owner/chef is friendly and gives great advice if the menu is overwhelming. We tried a range of things and everything was delicious. The jerk chicken was a standout. We would go every week if we were local.
Great food, nice and cozy place. Very generous portions and reasonable prices. Loved the flavors! We will definitelycome back.
Don’t miss this spot—it was exactly what we needed in the moment. Chef Charles is caring and friendly, and wants to make sure folks have a great time in the area. The empanadas and tostones were perfect; I wish I had some right now!
Delicious Caribbean food, especially the empanadas! Everything we ordered was very flavorful. The shrimp and grits were amazing as well as the fried chicken with rice and beans and collared greens. Staff was very friendly. Overall great experience. We will be back and are so happy to have this addition to town.
Maybe one of the best meals we've had in Saranac - and now I'm sad we didn't discover this sooner! By the time we rolled into town and checked into our hotel it was already 7:30 and we were hungry. Some beans sounded good and tye lost likely restaurant was this little Dominican restaurant around the corner. So good! We had the vegetarian plate with black beans, guacamole, red beans and rice, and plantains. Service was quick and friendly and the food was delicious. Prices were reasonable, too. We plan to be back again soon.

Stopped into this place for lunch after discovering it on Google Maps. Happy to support new local business and a fan of carribean food! They were out of some things, which caused some shuffling when time to order, and in the end we ended up with Chicken Tostones, Pork Tostones, a 'Small Plate' with pork (pork, cabbage salad, and rice and beans), and beef empanadas. No complaints on the food. My Pork Tostones were excellent and I highly recommend! Tasty, fresh ingredients. Very filling portion as well. The empanadas themselves were quite good and chimichurri sauce with them was average. Bright tropical feel inside and friendly service. We waited a long time for the food and between being waited on, so that's about all that bumps this from five stars to four.

The restaurant was a cute place, "mom and pop" style, with a cafe' style service, no alcohol served. So, don't expect any fine dining experience. I had ensalada verde with added beef which was a mistake. The salad needed more seasoning or flavored dressing or some sort. I had chicharro'n Rico for my main course since it has a sizeable portion. The chicharrones was fresh and crispy, not too fatty taste. It was served on a bed of cabbage with light vinegar dressing which help cut the fat flavor and complement the dish very well. The chef certainly has great skill and love for his food. This place has great potential.

The staff were would absolutely delightful but the food was subpar. I ordered the stewed jerk chicken but the rice was undercooked to the point it felt a bit hard, and the meat too salty.
Husband and I came here due to the good reviews and it turned out to be the most disappointing meal of our entire trip. Half of our rice was uncooked and inedible. We told the waitress who said it’s supposed to be that way, which was an insult to my intelligence being a Filipino woman who’s eaten rice my entire life. She kindly replaced it, which told me they were capable of serving properly cooked rice. Expensive dishes for what you get. I ordered the Bistec Ensebollado, which was an absolute rip off for $23 with the small, thin slice of unremarkable beef that’s good for one bite for a grown man.
I recently visited Our Plates yesterday in Saranac Lake, New York, and unfortunately, my experience was not the best. I ordered two beef empanadas, carne frita y tostones, and a side of yuca fries. Unfortunately, the empanadas were overly salty and lacked flavor, the yuca fries were dry and tasteless, and the portion size (9 small pieces) felt small for the price. The carne frita y tostones was also disappointing, with the tostones being the only part of the dish that had some flavor. To add to the disappointment, the total came to over $41, which felt quite steep for the portions and quality. Additionally, there were multiple menus with different prices on Google, which made the pricing feel inconsistent and confusing. Overall, I was disappointed and felt that the value for money just wasn't there.
