Been dining here my entire life. I absolutely love the chips & salsa. The quesadilla with fajita chicken has been a go-to for many years. Be sure to order some Queso with it, so you can dunk your quesadilla in it. They offer a similar lunch and dinner menu, just different size portions. Amazing Tex-mex! Every time I come back into town, I order a giant tub of salsa and bag of chips togo, so I can bring a little bit of La Mesa home with me. The service is always great. Great setting for large groups too. We have met here for family dinners plenty of times.

Visited Sherman from Austin and had to make a stop at La Mesa so my kids could try it. I grew up in Sherman so La Mesa was always on the short list of tex-mex places I'd eat at. Make no mistake, La Mesa is not high end authentic Mexican food and it doesn't try to be. La Mesa is very good, basic tex-mex. Their salsa and queso are both very good, their cheese enchiladas, whether you get them covered with chili or queso are some of the best around (gotta get them with onions), and their tamales are moist and flavorful. The service is always fast and attentive and mostly friendly. The prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere hasn't changed at all over the last 15 years but is comfortable and clean. La Mesa has been a staple in a town where many tex-mex restaurants have come and gone and that's because they maintain excellence. Don't go to La Mesa expecting authentic street tacos or amazing seafood, go expecting top notch tex-mex and you'll be pleased.

We were in the area and I decided to give La Mesa a try. Little Flip Out requested queso and he enjoyed it. For lunch I decided to go with La Grande to make it easier to share with the boys. The cheese enchiladas with chili con carne had a different flavor and was good. I enjoyed the tamales with Queso and the boys loved the tacos. Little Flip Out surprised me and went with cheese nachos it had a lot of cheese baked on for him. Our waitress brought out for Littlest Flip Out a plate of rice and beans that he loved having his on plate for eating. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

I got the chicken tacos and it was just shredded chicken no spices in it at all chicken was really dry.

Well we went there to meet with family from out of town for my dad's funeral the next day and they were not impressed at all with the food and then when we all got our tickets to pay for our food , etc we all like to have died ... At what time did the rules of tipping a server change from being at the customer's discretion to 17% of the total bill my table had 3 people at it in which did not want to eat but did have a drink so 3 drinks , 2 meals , a cup of cheese dip and 3 flour and 3 corn tortillas was over $56 , never again will we be going back .. You don't add the tip to the total of the bill especially when the server didn't do her job as a server ... I base my tips on friendliness , politeness, and pays attention to my drink glass , when I have to ask you 3 times to get a refill on tea there's your first mistake and then be rude about having to go 20 steps ( if that far) to get the tea pitcher just because it's 15 mins till closing time doesn't mean you stop working cause the faster you move and atleast act like you like your job the faster I'll get outta of your ares so you can go home ... We were made to feel as if we were in the way of doing something or they were gonna be late going somewhere with their friends after work ... I'll just stay where I know my money is always welcomed and appreciated.... I never did like this place anyway ...

This place always seems so crowded so it took us awhile to try the place out. Not gonna lie, was a little disappointed. Prices are kind of high for the quality of food. It was just basic to me. My daughter agreed. We ordered queso before our meal but our waitress forgot and after being reminded, brought it out with our meal. I also ordered a large peach margarita, which did it's job...😁 The service was overall good and the place was clean but their food won't bring us back when I feel there are better options around like, El Tapitio or even Jalapeño Tree

How this place is still in business is beyond me. Maybe customers get too drunk to realize what they are eating? No taste buds? Not sure. We have tried this place twice and not going to do a third. Previous reviewer tells the truth. The fajita meat is a big disappointment, its so covered in seasoning it dries out the meat. Not to mention its just taco seasoning. The only thing being cooked in your kitchen there is the the reheating of the food. You may add some things to "spice" it up, but I get better food and service across the street at Bueno. I love Mexican food and the rice was worse than that pasty stuff in frozen tv dinners. My refried beans were good, but really they are beans, what do you have to do to them. ALL Mexican restaurants give free chips and salsa with to go orders, not this place, its a small little bag and and a tiny cup. They got rude when I asked for more. I ordered online and arrived at the restaurant as I received the text that said my order was ready for pick up. My husband's food was ice cold. My food was room temperature. My burrito was incredibly soggy from all the moisture in the bad quality taco meat, and everything was extremely salty. Definitely would not recommend spending your money here as some fast food is better and cheaper.

The owner needs a reality check. The place is dirty in desperate need of an upgrade. Seats (booth) were ripped and covered with tape, carpet has its own color of filth, waiters don’t have a clean professional uniform, chips ware stale, my margarita was watered down, tasted like a flat old watered down lemonade, and to top it all off my husband’s beer was WARM !! This was my first time in this place and absolutely my last ! How do they expect to attract new customers and want people to come back!? Please save yourself a trip and money because this is not your money’s worth.

This has got to be some of the worst Mexican food I have tried in this area. Chips we super stale and of a cheap store brand. Salsa tasted like Pace Picante mixed with Old El Paso Red Enchilada sauce We ordered the Mesa Especial Fajita Dinner, beef and chicken combo The chicken was that pre-made prepackaged kind from Walmart. I could taste the liquid smoke flavor that those kind have. Who knows what happened to the beef, it was so over done and dry that it was powdery. The onions and peppers we ok but they were ruined by canned mushrooms. This whole mess was topped with an unknown white cheese and "taco seasoning", not mixed in, just sitting on top. The rice was crunchy and tasted like cumin and tomatoe, nothing else. The beans, how could you mess up canned beans so badly, they were dry with some weird cheeder cheese on top. Oh let's not forget what they called Guacamole which was just mashed up advocado that had the weird after taste you can get from those pre-made kind from Walmart. I should have known better when we walked in and they were playing pop music. We tried it and it sucked
