If you’re looking for a 5⭐️ family meal- look no further! From the fresh popcorn, flavor packed appetizers to their delicious dinners and sweet desserts - everything was spot on!!! Keegan our waiter was so attentive and EXCELLENT at helping us navigate the menu for the best choices for us! The owners are hands on, working alongside their staff, and available to hear our praises. Thank you for an EXCEPTIONAL dining experience.
We had a fantastic dinner experience at the newly opened Ground Round! Sitting at the bar brought back all the nostalgia—especially being greeted right away with a bowl of popcorn, just like the classic Ground Round I remember. The service was top-notch from the moment we arrived. The bartender was welcoming, attentive, and made sure our drinks were never empty. I tried the Ground Round lager, which was crisp and refreshing, and paired perfectly with my Signature Steak Tips, cooked exactly to my medium rare preference. We were checked on several times throughout the meal, and the entire staff—from the bartender to the bar backs—made sure everything was just right. We’re already looking forward to coming back and exploring more of the menu! Highly recommend for a delicious and nostalgic night out.
I had no idea what to expect with Ground Round. I had never heard of it but people kept talking about it and the parking lot is always full. We decided to give it a shot since we only live 3 minutes away. We were very impressed! The food was delicious, service was great (our server was Keegan)! We definitely will be going back!
I’ve been a few times already, and every time the service was excellent. The burger, which was great, definitely left full. steak tips were cooked, perfectly, ( medium rare). My wife loved her drinks, and I tried out two of the mock tails both highly recommend. The only fault is that I live far away and they don’t have a closer location, anytime I’m in area, this place is a must.
We wanted to try it out so we had dinner there Sunday afternoon, the inside was great, our waitress was awesome and the food was delicious on top of really good portions.
A very good experience overall. The service was very efficient and attentive without becoming pushy. We've always liked the building, especially as sunset approaches. It also avoids being too loud an environment, especially considering how busy it was. Too many low ceiling restaurants end up being too loud to converse across a table. I really liked the Fish and chips, my only quibble is that I prefer battered rather than their breaded approach. But the fish was a huge portion and cooked perfectly. firm without falling apart. Another minor observation was the size of the serving of coleslaw. We've always wondered why so many places give a thimbleful of slaw as a "serving". Our sense is that slaw is a low-cost side and doling out only a spoonful makes the establishment seem less hospitable. In addition it was really good slaw. My wife had the baked haddock, also well-prepared. Her only quibble was that the vegetable medley didn't measure up to the rest of the meal. But that's almost always a risk when ordering a medley. Our bill came out at $100 before tip for two but we had three drinks and an app, an imaginative and tasty pair of chicken parm eggrolls. I should also mention that there a good number of menu items that spoke to a good amount of creativity in deciding what to serve. There were also a good number of specials, always nice to avoid having customers burn out on eternal menus.
I’ve been both with coworkers and with my family. It’s been so busy, looking at the parking lot I wasn’t sure we would get a table.I was psyched we only had a 20 minute wait, but it was so worth it. I like the new spin on traditional stuff. The waitress was very attentive and checked a few times to make sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely be back!
Haven’t been to a Ground Round since they left Mass 20 years ago and we wanted to see if they were still worth it. Drove 30 minutes away and waited 30 minutes for a table but it was worth it. I had the country fried steak, hubby had ribs and steak tips and daughter had Mac & cheese with pancetta and it was all amazing. To top it off our server Ana was stellar. Will definitely go back again.
Our party of 6 (3 adults, 3 kids) visited tonight for the first time and had a great experience! We waited 10-15 minutes for a table, the kids got coloring pages and crayons. We got drinks, appetizers, meals and dessert! All of the food was incredible and the service was great. I loved how all of the food came out together. The restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was very nice. We will definitely be back!
Loved every minute of this place. Upon arrival I was greeted with a smile, enjoyed a beverage with my family while I waited and listened to Ground Round era music from the 70's, 80's and 90's (perfect volume, loud enough to hear, but soft enough to talk). The biggest surprise was the food - it was better than the old Ground Round food and reasonably priced - the helmet Sundae was small but perfect for my kids. They decorated the place with Ground Round era decor and, of course, it had the green hue I was looking for all topped off with old cartoons playing on the TVs... I highly recommend even if you have to travel...
My stepdad's favorite place was the Ground Round. We lost him last November, so for his first birthday in heaven, the family went to his favorite restaurant. We came a little early, but had great drinks and service at the bar until our table was ready. The staff were attentive, the food was great, and there was plenty of room for our large group. We were able to laugh together and remember our loved one fondly.
We finally got a chance the stop in last night, a Monday, and were able to grab seats at the bar. It was surprisingly busy for a Monday night in the summer but the bartender, Greg - may have been Craig - was very attentive despite the fact it seemed like he had the entire bar to himself. It didn’t seem like anyone was ignored about and he was always smiling even if he was busy. Very nice first impression! Ended up going with the chicken florentine on his recommendation and it was quite flavorful. Perfect amount of spice and creaminess. Husband had the steak tips and they surprisingly came out perfectly cooked. Hard to get evenly cooked steak tips these days! We will 100% be back to try a few more things on the menu. Thank you for bringing it back!
The Ground Round is an absolute gem! Not only does it bring a wave of nostalgia with its warm, family-friendly atmosphere, but the food is hands-down the best I’ve had in years! Every single item on the menu is fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. You can feel the care that goes into each dish. Whether you’re coming for a casual night out or a family dinner, this place hits the mark every time. Truly a must-visit—you won’t be disappointed!
They are still in the soft opening stage, to iron out the kinks before they fully open. With that said, cut them a little slack! They are def trying their best to please everyone. We went on a Monday , it was busy and the bar was full, we got our drinks right away, we were offered popcorn while we waited for our food, and the food was amazing! My bf said it was the best steak tips he has in a long time and my fish and chips were perfect! Can’t wait for the full menu to try some more items ! The staff is super friendly, and attentive! Feels like your neighborhood pub for sure ! They are only going to get better with time and experience!
Sue took amazing care of our party. We drove out to Shrewsbury from Boston to relive some nostalgia. As a child we frequented the location in Auburn, Maine. The food was great (Pot O Gold, Ground Rounder and Peanut Butter Pie). I was glad I didn’t need to step foot on the pay by the pound scale, but I thought it was cute they had one in the back. Nicely done!
Ground Round was where I first tried and ate Boneless Buffalo Fingers and Loaded Potato Skins It was nice to see they were going to have one open up again and after trying my "Fingers & Skins" meal again...it did not disappoint. They tasted as great as I remembered having them back then, I have tried multiple establishments with the same meal but have not been able to find anything that was and is comparable to Ground Round. The restaurant itself looks awesome inside and definitely gives you a New England feel and just a nice different family type atmosphere, as the look of it is just unique compared to other restaurants. I was served by Amanda and she was welcoming, friendly and phenomenal with her service. Between the taste of my food, the vibe of the restaurant and the great service,...I wish nothing but success for Ground Round.
Checked out the Ground Round and it didn’t disappoint - got the fish & chips - tasty meal. For a family of four with 3 adult beverages came in at just under $100 with the tip included - great value. We will return. Wanted to give a shout out to the server who was very attentive and had great attitude and energy about herself but I didn’t get her name.
We came in on a Saturday night and were seated right away, the restaurant was busy but the waiter was prompt with her service. The appetizers that we ordered were hot, fresh, and were all amazing. I would recommend the cheesesteak spring rolls out of the lot. The main entrees came quickly after the appetizers and everything tasted amazing. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone wanting great service and food.
Very comfortable atmosphere. Great food, and service was excellent. She checked on us every few minutes, filling our drinks without us asking. They also weren't rushing us to leave after we paid the bill.
First experience dining here - we used to live in the area and were curious to try, then saw that weekend hours were changed to accommodate the lunch crowd. Was pleasantly surprised by the efficiency and friendliness of the entire staff; we had arrived right at opening, so there was a short wait to be seated. Loved the fresh-popped popcorn, which was a nice touch. Tried the French onion soup (incredible, perfect for a gloomy fall day), fall harvest salad (plate was jam-packed, fresh and flavorful) and the cheeseburger (can’t argue with a 1/2 lb patty and a nice helping of seasoned fries). Overall, it was excellent - we’ll definitely be back!
Absolutely phenomenal experience! This was my first time trying an apple martini, and I’m convinced it’ll be hard to beat — perfectly balanced, crisp, and just the right touch of sweetness. The entire staff was exceptional — from the friendly hostess to our attentive waitress and even the folks bussing tables, everyone made the night feel effortless and welcoming. The food? Absolutely amazing. The ribs were tender and packed with flavor, the sides were delicious and fresh, and the presentation was spot-on. You can tell the kitchen takes real pride in what they serve. Between the quality of the food, the atmosphere, and the service, this place easily stands out as one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend!
Oh my goodness, we just had a fantastic experience at your restaurant last night! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts from our big silly family! You helped us in so many ways to make our dear Oma’s 87 birthday so special! You all were so accommodating and our server, Jane, I think, was amazing! And to top it off, so many of you came out to sing happy birthday to her that it made us all choked up. Thank you so much to your top notch staff.
Great to see The Ground Round back! Our experience was relaxed and comfortable, the menu is diverse, and the service was friendly. portions are generous. The relaxed atmosphere makes it perfect for families or friends. Just like it was 30 years ago, The Ground Round is a dependable choice for good food and a good time!
Overall a wonderful experience! Went in to try the new lunch hours and the staff and food did not disappoint! The waitress recommended a great app (steak and cheese eggrolls), the chicken parm was perfectly cooked and even my son loved his hamburger! The server was pleasant and attentive. We will be back soon!
Where do I start... The food is probably some of the best I have ever eaten, their specials menu is great, and the dessert gets me every time. Service does not take long at all, typically 15-20 mins to wait for food. Takes the same to find a table, but while you wait theres cartoons like loony tunes, which I personally approve of. Overall, its a delicious, kid friendly restaurant with great service and nice people.Me and my grandparents are frequent visitors, and the owner consulted us AND gave us a free meal to show their gratitude. If the owner happens to read this review, thank you. I really have never been so happy with a restaurant before.
I have celiac disease and have to eat gluten-free. The waiter was very nice and anything he was unsure about he double checked. The chef brought out the dishes for ppl with allergies. Great food and very friendly staff. Restaurant is really nice. All you can eat fresh popped popcorn.
My Girlfriend and I visited this new establishment last week. We’ve been very excited to come here since the news they were opening back up. We were greeted right away, got a table quickly and had 3 people wait on us. I got the chicken Parmesan and my girlfriend got the steak tips, they were both so delicious and the serving sizes were huge. The place looked so amazing, the atmosphere was comforting, and the staff were very polite and friendly. This place is a slam dunk!! This will definitely be our new spot to go! Thank you Ground Round for bringing this place back to life!!!!
Just like the old days, bringing back great childhood memories. The popcorn, the cartoons, but with a modern twist. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. The brick chicken, was the moistest and most flavorful chicken I ever had. The garlic mashed potatoes and fresh green beans were so good.
We’re so happy to see this popular family-friendly chain reopen its doors last month—it’s like welcoming back an old friend. The restaurant still has that warm, familiar feel, with its classic wooded steakhouse-style ambiance that adds a cozy, nostalgic touch. They’ve kept all the little things that made it special: free popcorn when you sit down, and those unforgettable ice cream sundaes served in mini baseball helmets that kids (and adults) absolutely love. Portions are generous, just like before, and the family-friendly vibe is still very much alive. It’s easy to get to and parking is never a problem, which makes it a no-brainer for a relaxed night out. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to the place, it's definitely worth a visit.
My husband and I came here for our valentines dinner and had a fantastic experience. The atmosphere was cozy yet lively. Our server at the bar was friendly and fast. Drinks and food were so delicious, we got the steak, ribs, pretzel appetizer and a few cocktails everything was served hot and large portions. We will absolutely be coming back!
My family and I had the most enjoyable experience at The Ground Round. It was a busy night because there were two holiday parties. Even as busy as it was, our server was attentive and another server came over to make sure we had refills on our drinks. The runner brought our food and more popcorn (which is hot, buttery, and yummy!). And we had the magician, Steve, entertain us with magic tricks while we waited for dessert. The atmosphere was festive and relaxed. I wish more restaurants were like this. Keep up the great work!
This was such a great feel today. The food was great and some nostalgic snacks. The opener of course popcorn and some buffalo chicken nachos. At the bar or in the dinning hall it will bring back a few memories. That or make some new ones. Highly recommend the burgers or a nice sizzling steak. Leave room for cinnamon dippers with vanilla ice cream. They have a few dipping flavors to boot.
Yes, The Ground Round is back! The popcorn is still there, it's just not all over the floor, the way it was in the 70's and 80's. The silent movies are gone, but they've been replaced by a new generation of old theater, in the case of my visit, Tom and Jerry. The food was good. The staff was great. What more could anyone want?
Finally got to go to ground The Ground Round in shrewsbury Mass. My good friend lives 3 mins away from here. where do I start. We got there at 5pm there was allready 45 min wait. However, myself. My friend and her daughter we waited it out we played the corn hole . The host, super nice smiling took my name. Finally, we were called in, we were seated right next to the tv , tom and Jerry was on. Fr the decor on walls the Cabin log wood look and the feel and the huge fireplace brings back memories from when I was a kid. The music and atmosphere was amazing . Our waitress Nicole, amazing ! She helpful, loved that she told us her fav meal, suggest some things. Talked with us, legit felt like family did not rush us asked we needed anything else, got us more popcorn. (Love the popcorn machine ). For app we got steak and cheese egg rolls. These are great , crispy egg rolls filled with enough cheese and steak and pepper and onions . Amazing ranch dressing to dip. For meals - Myself- I got the 1/2 ribs with steak tips . The bbq sauce on it was amazing sweet not spicy not over kill. They fell right off the bone . The tips were cooked just way I like them Med well. Little pink. 2 sides green beans so fresh nicely cooked and broccoli perfectly cooked and fresh with little butter . I had a salad with Italian dressing really great. My friend had a southwest taco shell salad . Holy moly it was huge and delicious Her daughter had the 4 cheese bake Mac and cheese cheesy and filling ! Dessert the lava cake . So yummy, delicious we all shared it . The owner came to us and we chatted with her so nice and friendly . Thanks us and hope to see us again. ! I highly recommend going ! I’ll definitely be back!
This was me and my Fiancés first time coming to the ground round and it was a great experience. The wait time was quick, the food was great (we got the chicken parm sandwich and the bbq burger) and the service was outstanding. Our server Greg was so attentive and friendly, by far the best waiter/server we have ever had. If you have not tried this place yet then you should, we will DEFINITELY be back soon!
I had long anticipated visiting, it was worth it! Food was fair for what you get, the portions were particular generous. Ordered the fish and chips and was pleased. I felt like they knocked it out of the park on all sides of the meal- especially the coleslaw. Would recommend for a good, casual lunch or dinner. Small touches, like the themed walls near the bathrooms or the mints for after the meal were really neat, too.
The food was absolutely delicious! We ordered the Pot'O Gold for appetizers! Chicken parmesan sandwiches and four cheese mac and cheese for our entrees! Presentation was on point for every dish! And our waitress Chahinat was on top of everything! As soon as she saw our drinks low, she was coming to get us another! Will definitely go back again!
Came here for the first time since it opened. Very nostalgic. The service was great and there was a lot of options on the menu. Everyone was happy with their meals. ***A grilled chicken Caesar salad is always my go to trying a place, it was so good. Can't wait to come back and try out some other dishes. ***Food Mood Note: They have Coke products here! Their Diet Coke Crisp factor: super crispy!!!
We had an exceptional experience at Ground Round in Shrewsbury. The food was absolutely amazing, the atmosphere was lively and welcoming, and there was barely any wait. The service was excellent from start to finish. It’s a great spot for families—the kids loved that Tom and Jerry was playing on the TV. We’ll definitely be returning soon!
Great experience at the Ground Round in Shrewsbury. Excellent food and service. From the moment we walked in the door, we were treated like family. The hostess was polite and friendly. The restaurant was clean and inviting. While we waited for our table, we sat at the bar and ordered appetizers and drinks. The bartenders were super friendly and attentive. We ordered the Pot of Gold, which had onion rings, chicken tenders, mozzarella moons, and cheese steak egg rolls. Everything was cooked to perfection. The chicken tenders were most and juicy, and the onion rings were crisp and not greasy. The cheese steak egg rolls were cheesy and full of steak. We also had the potato skins, which were topped with plenty of cheddar cheese, bacon, and green onions, and with the horseradish sour cream, it made them even better. To drink, a blue moon and Guinness. After enjoying our drinks, appetizers, and, of course, fresh buttery popcorn, it was time to go to our table in the dining room, where they had old cartoons playing on flat screen tvs Our server, Sue, or as she says tsunami, was a former server at the original GR over 20 years ago. She was awesome, very knowledgeable, polite, professional, and funny. She was attentive but not intrusive. For dinner, we had BBQ Chicken and Baby Back Ribs, which, as you can see from the picture, fell off the bone, along with crispy fries and creamy coleslaw. For desert, we had the cinnamon dippers and classic slider sundaes. Everything was absolutely delicious. The owners were super friendly and gave us a couple of GR T-shirts to take home. It was great to see them there, making sure everyone was having a good time, interacting, and chatting with the guests. We even saw the Ground Round Hound, a great new addition to this family fun restaurant. The GR is the perfect place to watch the game at the bar with your friends or enjoy a family-friendly dinner in the main dining room. It's definitely a must visit.
Well, the GR did not disappoint; Went for a Sunday afternoon reunion with friends, and enjoyed my wonderful Cobb salad! It’s definitely not the ground round of the 70s, no popcorn on the floor and no black-and-white movies, but hints of the nostalgia are all there – Especially the kindness of the waitstaff and management; The newest location is decorated in Halloween memorabilia – one statue particularly stood out to us – When we told the manager that it was our anniversary on Halloween, she then commented to please take the statue and enjoy your anniversary! The meaningful thing here is the friend that married us passed away years ago and had bought the same statue for us, but returned it because we kept changing our date!! 🤣 I have never seen a statue then or since like it. The manager was kind enough to offer the statue as a gift and remembrance of my friend. Thank you Ground Round! – it was a wonderful experience and we will be back again and again and again.
My wife and I finally went to The Ground Round this past Friday night. We love that the Ground Round has returned to Shrewsbury; having taken our kids when they were young to the one near Spag's so many years ago. Our server (Susan) didn't rush us, provided good recommendations, and made us feel welcomed. The atmosphere is so friendly; even other servers walk by saying hi to everyone. The calamari appetizer was nice and light (not oil soaked like so many other establishments). I had the special, Salmon Oscar (best tasting salmon I've ever had at a restaurant). I'll order it any time I see it on their menu (hopefully, it's a frequent special). My wife really liked the baked Haddock and found it good tasting, flaky and moist. Needless to say, The Ground didn't disappoint. We will return soon! You will not be disappointed if you go there.
We went to the Ground Round to see how the place was after reopening. I must say that the visit, by any stretch was stellar! Lyn had a classic cheeseburger, Michelle had a chicken wrap, and I had the Ground Rounder, medium rare. Lyn enjoyed her cheeseburger quite a lot. Michelle really enjoyed her chicken wrap quite a bit! My Ground Rounder. I can speak to my experience. That burger, to my utter astonishment, was an experience like you dream about. The burger was perfectly cooked. The first bite I took hit me like a wash of divine revelation. The meat was so impeccably tender. The fixings augmented the experience to a blissful level. This is far beyond your typical foodgasm. I was reminiscing about each bite I took after I took it. And to crank up the experience to stellar, was our server, Tamara. We had some things come out that weren't quite right. Tamara handled it so perfectly. Just took care of each thing and made it right. Like I asked for onion rings and I got fries. Tamara took care of like a boss. Michelle's wrap was missing sauce. Tamara made it a total non-issue in the blink of an eye. The random other requests we had were fulfilled in a professional manner the likes of which you never forget. Michelle and Tamara even got to chatting about things and Tamara even had some unexpectedly useful tips! I massively enjoyed my experience there and I still remember it fondly. Tamara deserves a hell of a pay raise or a unicorn or something. Totally unreal. Can't wait to do it again.
We had a wonderful visit to The Ground Round yesterday, we were greeted warmly and sat promptly in a cozy booth on the dining room. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive to ensure we received refills or additional requests. I ordered the Grilled Salmon, it came with fresh green beans that were cooked to perfection. Great experience and great food! We will be back soon.
‘T’ was our server and she was excellent! It was quite busy yet she was very attentive. We each had burgers and they were perfectly cooked to our specifications along with delicious onion rings. We started with a beer and a cappuccino martini at the bar while we waited for our table - both drinks were very good. Bartender (sorry forgot his name) was friendly and quick with the delicious popcorn and our drinks. The hostesses were also friendly and welcoming. We’ll be back - thanks to the owners!
Had a very enjoyable experience tonight. Ground Round brings back nostalgia from when I was a kid. They had the screen and the popcorn. It is an open layout, so when busy it is quite loud. We had a wonderful waiter named Keegan who was very friendly and knowledgeable. He even had the live music singer sing happy birthday to my sister. The food presentation was very nice. When busy, the wait time to get food is a little long but I would definitely go back. Beware, there is very limited parking, even when going around to the back of the building.
I recently had the chance to visit a brand-new restaurant that just opened its doors less than a week ago! There was a bit of a wait on a Friday night—about 45 minutes—but they were spot on with their timing when they seated us. Our waitress seemed a little tired, but I understand, it’s been a busy time for them! They mentioned they have a limited menu for now, but the owner took the time to chat with me and shared that they’ll be adding four new items every week, which is exciting! Overall, the food was delicious, and the prices were really great. Can’t wait to see how they grow!
I had never been to a ground round growing up but my husband had so we decided to take our small children. We got there shortly after it opened and all the booths were filled immediately but the tables were empty. I kind of wished they saved some booths open for families small kids that could fall out of chairs but are too big for high chairs. The booster seats were very narrow but my son just fit. We got a half booth so that worked. Our service was outstanding. The waiter was very attentive. The spinach dip was very good. My kids loved the flower pot with worms dessert. I was hoping the kids menu would have had grilled cheese since my kids are picky (won’t eat meat/chicken nuggets) and too small to use adult utensils for pasta. My husband noted that there were minimal decorations on the wall unlike what he remembers growing up. Overall we had a very nice experience and I enjoyed the food. I thought everything was maybe $2 more than it should’ve been so it ended up being a very expensive night out.
I know most people don't go here for a salad, but I did. Got their house salad "to go" and it was fabulous. There was no skimping on the ingredients, large portions of carrots, red peppers, red onions, cherry tomatoes and all for under $13. I will be going back to try the meats soon.
Definitely a family friendly restaurant, which we appreciated. The food was good but not delicious. Our server was friendly and professional. We'd go back because of the atmosphere and try something else on the menu.
Great casual place to take the family. It can get very busy, so reservations are recommended for a larger party. They have the free popcorn and cartoons playing on tvs for kids. The food is good - both in taste and portion size. Depending on when you go, service can be a little slow. It took a while for the staff to take our orders and for the food to come out. Other than that, it was a great experience. We’ll be back!
Went to the Ground Round on their grand opening night and was pleasantly surprised with my experience. Ordered some drinks that came out tasting delicious and ordered steak tips and the Cajun burger with fries on the side. The pesto drizzle with the steak tips was an innovative and tasty addition. The portions were solid and everything tasted fresh. The service is a work in progress but that’s an easy fix compared to other issues that could’ve happened plus, it was grand opening and there was a lot going on from a mascot, live music, raffles, etc. My biggest fear is the feeling of nostalgia running out and how that may hurt the business over time.
I attended a networking event here. The food made me feel ill for a day and a half after. It tasted good. It gives the kind of place where they mostly are a nightlife place not a food place though. Like a bar that serves food to get around rules? I just moved here. They don't have bars here like they're a fixture in my home state. Every little county highway is dotted with little bars. Here they have little restaurants.
We decided to give Ground Round a try. For those who remember, Ground Round was once a New England staple before closing all its locations over the past decade. So, when we saw it had returned, we were excited to check it out. The menu is currently on the smaller side, but that’s understandable given the restaurant has only been open a few weeks. We ordered the Chicken Parm entrée and the Soba Noodle Stir Fry from the vegetarian options—both dishes were delicious and well-prepared. We also enjoyed a couple of drinks, and the bar staff really added to the experience—friendly, attentive, and the perfect way to unwind after a long week. There was no shortage of staff on the floor, and our waitress was fantastic. We also noticed management was actively engaged and present, which speaks volumes about their commitment to service. When it came time to settle up, another server stepped in right after we placed our card in the check envelope—clearly a team that works together seamlessly. Overall, we had a great experience and are genuinely happy to see Ground Round make a comeback. Looking forward to our next visit!
Classic cartoons on the tv was a hit with myself and kiddos! Such a nostalgic feeling when visiting the newly opened The Ground Round in Shrewsbury. We started with some popcorn and pretzels with beer cheese, broccoli cheddar soup. We had the burgers with fries or sweet potato fries, I enjoyed the sweet potato fries As you can imagine, it was extremely busy, but the staff did amazing job and made our experience smooth with great communication and service. Time to go back with the other family members
Solid 4 stars. Everything was pretty good, nothing blew my socks off. We started with the pot of gold app, and it was solid. The shell was, um, interesting . It was hard to eat, because it fell apart every time you tried to break some off. We swapped out the onion rings for fries, and they were excellent. The chicken fingers were good, and they had a great honey mustard. The steak egg roll was just good. It was a lot of food, so we ended up just going with soup and chili as the entre. The cheddar broccoli soup was ok. The chili was lackluster - I'd honestly prefer Wendy's chili... We will probably go back, and actually eat entrees. Service was pretty good.
I was excited when I heard the ground round was back! Such a nostalgic restaurant. I loved the popcorn and French onion soup. I ordered the chicken parm for dinner and was not impressed. Also the drinks were super strong. Not a bad thing, sometimes ! It was almost too strong to enjoy, my fiancee returned her Mai Thai because it was overpowering with alcoholand got a beer. Based on my overall experience I would return to have apps, a strong drink and a dessert. Our server was super friendly and welcoming.
I ordered fish and chips for dinner, wife had Cobb salad, friends had ribs and steak tips. They said ribs were delicious and steak tips were good. They got onion rings as a side and mashed potatoes... sides were okay. Onion rings looked great but tasted just okay. Wife's salad was delicious. My fish was huge. Not greasy at all. Way too much for me to finish in one sitting. Fries were okay. We'll be back to try the ribs 😀
It was a cool nostalgic trip to go back to a ground round! We got the Pot of Gold appetizer combo. The onion rings and chicken tenders were decent, the steak and cheese egg rolls were good and cheesy but a bit salty, and the mozzarella half moons were very good with a crisp crust and a molten center that has a nice cheese pull! I ordered a medium rare BBQ Whiskey Burger that was cooked to medium but was pretty tasty. We also tried the Baby Back Ribs and Shrimp, the ribs were good and tasty but the Shrimp were like a salt lick. Our server was cordial and did return to check on us but seemed like they were trying to manage too many tables at the same time. We will definitely return to try more of the menu!
A good mix of nostalgia and food Like many people reviewing the newest Ground Round restaurant, I remember going there during my childhood. Though my memories are little more than the silent cartoons, popcorn, and baseball cap sundaes, I was still excited when I heard about the Shrewsbury location opening. At the time of this review, we have tried to go three times, but only succeeded twice due to excessive crowds. If you are planning on going I recommend making a reservation if you are a party of 6+, or showing up before opening and waiting by the door. The seating on the restaurant side is a mix of rather large booths and free standing tables. Shortly after being seated we were given a basket of popcorn and had our drink orders taken. For soda they have coke products. They also have juice as an option for children. Service speed was a little on the slow side, unsurprisingly considering how busy they are, so I recommend looking at the menu before going and deciding what you want so you can order immediately after reviewing whatever the specials are. The overall ambiance was good. Its a much brighter, well lit, and cleaner building than the ones I remember from my youth. Though the floorplan was fairly open, it was also crowded and loud. This is fairly normal for a popular restaurant and nothing to discourage you from attending. For appetizers we tried the pretzels which came out very hot with your choice of two sauces. Both times we had them, our party very quickly devoured them. The one improvement for them would be if they came precut. We ordered the kids popcorn chicken, kids mac and cheese, chicken parmigiana, and haddock both visits and the food quality was mostly consistent. The serving sizes were generous and with the exception of the popcorn chicken were enough for two meals if you paced yourself. The taste of the haddock varied slightly between visits. The first visit the fries were fairly normal flavored but the second they were obviously seasoned. As there is only one entry on the menu for fries, I expect they simply forgot to add seasoning the first time. I liked the seasoned fries a lot, it was a subtle hint of spice that lingered. We were a little surprised that all the dished come with pesto seasoning, but it didn't detract from the dish. If you don't like pesto though, tell your server when you order. The popcorn chicken was well received and the mac in cheese was real, not just an over priced box of kraft. Our party also tried the salmon and sirloin on our second visit. The serving size of the salmon was much smaller, there wasn't enough for leftovers. The steak was a good size and could be stretched to two meals. There were no complaints about the food. We also tried multiple desserts. The first time we ordered the apple crisp, sundae, and flower pot. The table crisp was good, though they use tart apples so it wasn't as sweet as I would like. The sundae comes in a Woo Sox baseball cap which you get to keep and while light on the fudge was what you would expect. The flower pot, which you also get to keep, was creative but nothing we felt the need to order a second time. Though they say they have homemade whip cream, and I personally found it tasty, it tastes like it is a modified or thickened cool whip. Overall I am very glad I got to take my children to a restaurant I have fond memories of. The price was on the higher side for a family of four, over $30 per person when you consider appetizers, desert, and tip. I would certainly go again for a special occasion, but not for a normal family dinner out.
The atmosphere is great for a family restaurant. Lots of options for"American" fare but a little pricey. My burger tasted good but not cooked to requested temp. I would've sent back to refire but server never checked back. I'll definitely come back though. Maybe just a busy night and relatively new place.
Pros: attentive and quick service. Food was good. I had salmon and enjoyed it. Happy to see some menu items from long ago - Pot O' Gold and Cinnamon Dippers. We had a party of 7 with no reservation and only had to wait 20 minutes but we got there right at opening. Cons: Way too loud! The room has an extremely high vaulted ceiling which made for a very loud experience. The acoustics of the room are intense because of the architecture. I had to shout and struggle to hear the person sitting 2 seats away from me. My friends across the round table, I couldn't hear at all. Didn't even bother trying to converse with them. I wouldn't go back because of the noise. The service was good except for one part - the table was not cleared of the dinner dishes before dessert was brought out by a different server. There was no room for the dessert and our elderly member of our party couldn't reach the dessert because the server placed it too far from her because of all the empty plates and glasses.
The waitress was awesome! My burger was salty and too smokey for my taste.(Ground Round burger,) We got the pot of gold app. The mozz moons were amazing, the chicken tenders & onion rings were average, the Philly cheese steak egg roll was very salty. I'd give them a second chance & get something different.
The food was served cold. The marinara was so congealed it may have been from a can of sauce from the original restaurant 20 years ago. The kids meal was the only decent food (popcorn chicken w/fries, served cold). The hostess was neither polite nor rude, but the server was so nice and genuinely felt bad for the poor food/experience. To be fair, it was a week after a massive snow storm so staffing could have been an issue. The atmosphere for kids is great, all the tvs were on tom and Jerry and could be seen from any seat.
We've been wanting to try the new Ground Round since they opened months ago but the wait has always been outrageous so we made plans to arrive early (4:15ish on a Thursday night). We were given our choice of booth or table and were seated at a spacious booth for 6- just the 2 of us! Given it's the week of Halloween , the servers were decked out in Halloween costumes which I found to be quite entertaining. Our server promptly took our drink order and another server brought over a bowl of fresh popcorn. (Just as we remembered from our years visiting the "original" Ground Round on route 9 back in the 80's and 90's!) We ordered the Ground Rounder burger and the Taco salad for our meals. Although some of the menu items have the same names, they aren't truly "the same" as we remembered. The burger, now served on a pretzel bun, does not come with lettuce, tomato, and onion, although you can request it for an additional charge. (+$1.50 🤔) Minimal amount- upcharge on something you'd normally expect would be included on an $18.00 burger/fries. The taco salad was enormous and the presentation was impressive. I knew I'd be bringing much of this home. Slightly disappointed in this choice- the meat was simply cooked ground beef with no seasoning. I guess because it was called "taco salad" I was expecting the meat would be seasoned like taco meat; I also expected the meat would be at the very least, warm, if not hot- but it was cold/chilled. The menu states "fire roasted corn" which ended up being just regular kernel corn, and the chipotle ranch dressing tasted more like thousand island or Russian dressing. All in all, the food was 'okay' (mediocre), but not necessarily as enjoyable as we nostalgically remembered. The service was top notch as our server was attentive, friendly, and checked in regularly for refills, taking our order, and processing our payment. We had higher hopes for the return of The Ground Round...
Went for dinner on a Sunday opens at 4. At 415 I had to take a number and wait 90 min outside. Some other customers were waiting after 30 min they left. I was then summoned and went in, it was a nice atmosphere not your ground round that you remember but I let that go. Popcorn yes, so far so good. Food selection was ok but a little over priced. 18 for a burger and fries and stingy with the fries. Their menu was ok it seems the dinner plates looked good. They are still new and I assume they will improve it. Suggestions get rid of the pasta plates and add more plates or different sandwiches. The desert is great and some are not so great. Lava cake and apple crisp yes there was one with pudding but the presentation was cute but not a lot of chocolate pudding. Service was attentive but it took a while to arrive. I would wait until they got the kinks out. Still nice but over priced.
Been wanting to go here since the reopening. Unfortunately the taco lunch special isn't available anymore, that was my staple. Opens at 5pm everyday, there were 6-10 people waiting at the door when we arrived at ~4:55pm. Got seats at the bar and ordered the dry rub wings, kinda pricy at $16.99 or $18.99 for 7. (There were 2 prices on the menu, don't recall what the $2 difference was.) Cajun Dry rub was a confused spicing: NOT much heat, but prominent brown sugar (6.5/10). I ordered my reference meal: chicken parm., average at best. Sauce had too much basil covering up a flat/mediocre base sauce. (Pricy at $23.99(?)) I should have taken a photo of the regular menu. Pasta was some unconventional stuff. (6.0/10) The Mrs. ordered the steak tips, which was good, nothing exceptional. (7.5/10) Not inexpensive. Again, forgot price, but it's probably online. Building is awesome! Bar staff was prompt and attentive, but somewhat over the top (Too loud and talky). Like they're trying to recreate TGI Fridays. Overall it was underwhelming. Was hoping for better prices, but without inexpensive prices I expected better food. I doubt we will repeat anytime soon. Better options available with similar prices and better food. The better options may not have free popcorn, but the overall experience will be better. I was hoping it was going to be better, unfortunately it was lacking. I hope they do well regardless.
To start off we came in and had a 35 minute wait which was completely okay and we weren’t phased about that. It took 30 minutes from the time of us sitting down for our server to even ask us what we wanted to eat. Keep in mind she only approached the table to ask because I was hawking her down from the table. As a server myself, I take care of each and every table as fairly as possible and as friendly as possible. I interact as much as I can. We weren’t asked if we even wanted a starter. The server didn’t even interact with us for the majority of our dining experience, so much so that she wasn’t even aware ANOTHER server gave us our check. Not to mention this alternative server was so much more warm in the extremely short period of time we interacted with her, in comparison to our designated server. The food was inconsistent. 2 orders of broccoli were lukewarm, 1 was the proper temp. The steaks were overcooked but not terrible. Overall it was a poor dining experience simply because our server was terrible. She was conversating with patrons at tables that were not hers before prioritizing her assigned section/table
Today we sat at the bar since the restaurant was full. The bartender was friendly and apologized repeatedly, but the service overall was disappointing. Our appetizer arrived first, and mid-meal we found pieces of fried paper in the dish. We reported it to the bartender, who apologized, and we chose not to escalate further. Then we waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for the main course. The bartender apologized several times for the delay, but other guests who arrived after us were served sooner, which was frustrating. After nearly 2 hours, with no manager stepping in to explain the situation, we decided to take our meals to go. The bartender again apologized and mentioned the chef was new, but there was no formal resolution or proactive follow-up from management. The bartender was polite and shared our frustration, but the restaurant’s overall operations and communication fell short. This felt like a breakdown beyond the bar area, not just a kitchen delay. Bottom line: food quality concern plus a prolonged, poorly managed delay. This will likely be our first and last visit unless there are meaningful improvements in kitchen coordination, staffing, and guest communication.
Place was packed so I had high expectations. Atmosphere was kinda weird, food took a long time (to be expected), service was decent, food was definitely sub par though. Steak tips were way overcooked, not marinated. Smelled weird in the place and was on the expensive side for what we got.
My family went to the ground round in shrewsbury on Sunday 10-12-25. The restaurant was extremely busy and when we were finally seated we ordered to a great waitress and my steak tips were great, the green beans were cold and the red mashed potatoes were a creamy mess, my wife's roast chicken was barely cooked. We will not return.
We stopped in for a plate of nachos and they were so salty, probably the worst we have had. Drinks were marginal but our server corrected the issue. We would have sent the nachos back, if we didn’t already send our drinks back. However the atmosphere was and inviting and our server was excellent.
we were so excited to go... nostalgic place for us. I loved to look of the place & were happy to get our popcorn. After that, it went downhill. we had only ordered beer & wings, very long wait for the wings. As we were waiting we were overseeing & hearing a table getting their entire meal comped. Hmmm not a good sign. our wings came, they were not hot, but warm ... asked to have them heated up... more time passes & when they came back, they just tasted badly & chose not to eat them or to order anything else. Just a real bummer... we were really excited to be in a restaurant that reminded us of our past & just will not plan to return.
My husband and I arrived early for our reservation for a party of 7. I specifically told "Jane" who was our server that one of my daughters and myself have celiac disease and need gluten-free food. The waitress acknowledged and said that the only foods that was gluten-free were the salads, steak, and they had a gluten-free bun. This was weird as my husband I had eaten on the barside twice for dinner, and I had no issues. I even had the salmon and sweet potato fries, with no issues! This time, I ordered the salmon, broccoli, and red mashed potatoes. I was "glutened" and experienced stomach issues for several hours afterwards. Not fun! We were celebrating my husband's 69th birthday and were taking photos when the waitress came up to us and offered to take our group photo. Unfortunately, none of the three photos came out! She used a flash and all the photos were blurred. The environment was awesome as my two grandsons enjoyed it very well. They are both 4 and under in age! Overall, I was quite disappointed with my food and service. It did take quite a while for the drinks to be served, as well. I think we'll stick to the barside.
Food came out luque warm for both of us. Broccolli flowetts raw. Loaded baked potato, no sour cream and or butter. Lava cake cold wth zero lava and dry cake.
Really disappointing. Boring menu, not well prepared. Loud, cold, echoey interior. Very low effort decor. Avoid the pasta dishes, they have been badly over cooked every time I've been there.
Server was a doll; interior look was a neat log cabin. Food was terrible. I had an inedible pasta A La Vodka. The pasta was the consistency of Chef Boyardi - too wet? But also gritty and disintegrated in your mouth. The sauce was dark and nearly flavorless. I ordered it without mushrooms, though, so presumably it was made “fresh”… The Philly egg rolls were so WET, but from dripping with grease, and my husband actually removed chunks of fat from his mouth and put them to the side on his plate. Woof. He did say the ribs were decent and had a lot of meat, though. There were also 3 different birthdays going on- wicked original 😂
I really wanted to enjoy this place, but it was a complete letdown from start to finish. The burnt, overcooked steak tasted like stove cleaner, the salmon was flavorless, and the broccoli cheddar soup was a greasy mess with clumps of broccoli. Drinks? Strong, yes—but not in a good way. They tasted like the bartender was either drunk or just recklessly heavy-handed. Zero balance, zero finesse. It honestly feels like the owner is riding the coattails of the Ground Round name without putting in the effort to live up to the brand’s legacy. Instead of honoring the name, this location is blackening it. Save your money and go somewhere that actually values flavor and quality.
Just got takeout and almost drove back with it. Everything just stuffed in one container. Steak tips buried in the mashed and onion rings don't belong in the same container. Nevermind all the condiment containers that don't belong in there either. Come on, do better! This makes fast food look appetizing.
