Enjoyed eating at The depot. Food was excellent, beautiful atmosphere, and the service was great. It’s a Sonama staple. Highly recommend the chicken dish if you like a bit of kick. Also, tried one of the specials which was a mixed green salad with burrata cheese, pomegranates and prosimians. Flavors of the fruit paired well with the greens. Delicious!
A nice cozy restaurant with indoor & outdoor dining for couples and families. It's a modern Italian cuisine with simple yet elegant presentation, with good value. Servers were very professional and prompt. In terms of vibe, the outdoor atmosphere was perfect for a romantic date. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting Sonoma.
Wonderful 25th anniversary dinner! The food, drinks, service and atmosphere were great. Upscale but not at all stuffy. Great spot.
This place is amazing. The service was great and they were working hard to provide a wonderful experience. The food was spectacular. We started with the margarita pizza as our appetizer. It was perfect. We could not believe how thin and crispy the crust was. The sauce and cheese so delicious. We ordered the tagliatelle and the rigatoni as our mains. They were both rich and filling. I really want to try the hand pulled mozzarella next trip. They don’t have a full bar but offer wine spritz and a full wine menu. You can also bring your own for a corking fee. The location off the main square but we easily walked from our hotel. Highly recommend.
This is the place to go in Sonoma! You have to pull yourself away from the town square to find it, but in our opinion this place beats anything else on the square. The short rib was melt in your mouth magnificent and the steak could feed 2! Wonderful appetizers and a splendid high quality antique feel to the entire place. Not to be missed
Great place located just a little ways away from the Sonoma square! The ambiance is very quaint with some modern aspects, such as a pool showcased as a fountain in the middle of their al fresco dining area. We especially enjoyed our lemon herb chicken and double cut porkchop! We also ordered their Margherita pizza as an appetizer. Its thin crust makes it a light starter to get our appetite going. I highly recommend trying out this place when you drop by downtown Sonoma!
The food was impeccable, the atmosphere was intimate but not fussy, and the service was top notch. We loved everything about our dinner here!
The food is very good. The calamari, ribeye steak, gnocchi and seafood pasta were all excellent.
4.5 gets rounded up to 5. For a fairly casual, not too expensive place, everything was spot on, detail oriented, and well executed. Service was friendly, accommodating, and the kitchen was super quick. The black spaghetti seafood tonnarelli was very flavorful with a hint of spice (excellent sopped up with their house Sourdough (albeit mild) bread - ask them to heat it up and they will), and the veal scaloppine was delectable. For dessert, tried the limoncello mango cake, died, and went to heaven! Wine list is very reasonable. And the outdoor ambience was the perfect mix of quaint, cozy, charming, and elegant - multi sectioned seating areas, some with heating, fountain, and bistro lights abound. All in an 1870 former train depot. Well done, and I would definitely return again.
Super delicious, server was great and food came out quick. We also had the risotto with mushrooms and short ribs, also very delicious!!! We will be coming back!
Wonderful atmosphere and delicious food! My husband and I chose this place for our Anniversary lunch and it did not disappoint! We had Pizza Salami and the Caprese Salad. Our server was friendly and attentive but not too attentive, we never felt rushed or unwelcome. Highly recommend!!
Thanksgiving at The Depot was First Class all the way. Reasonably priced, our meal and dinning experience was delightful.
Such a beautiful restaurant. My family and I had dinner on the patio and the heaters were warm enough on a chilly night. The ambiance, service, and food was truly wonderful. I highly recommend taking a chance on this restaurant, you won't regret it. We will definitely be back!
Shot a wedding here and it's a PERFECT little spot if you want an intimate setting with some italian ambiance. Highly recommended, and can't wait to shoot another wedding here!
Excellent experience, elegant yet not pompous vibe with the service only bested by the food quality and taste. If back in area would for sure dine with them again. Charles our server was topshelf
Amazing delightful lovely! Great food. Loved my view from a bright and cheery room.
Great food, great people, great atmosphere, what else to say 😊
Food was great. Wonderful historic building. First time here and would highly recommend.
Amazing Staff! Incredibly comfortable and beautiful location for weddings!
It took a while to be waited on and the hostess wasn't helpful when we asked if we could order wine at least while we waited. Once our server came though, he was great. The meal was absolutely outstanding. Pan seared halibut that was so perfectly cooked it was amazing.
A great Italian restaurant located in Sonoma a little off the beaten path. We had a delicious lunch in a casual garden setting. Soup, salad, entree, and dessert shared between two of us came to $100 exactly with two glasses of wine and tip. The staff was attentive, efficient and welcoming. The salad lunch entrees that went by looked very fresh and generous., and the pizzas looked delicious. We opted for more traditional old school Italian selections like chicken Parmesan with tortellini as that seemed to be the restaurant’s vibe. They were fresh, tasty, and plentiful. At the end of the meal, the bus girl offered to wrap up the fresh dread that remained in the basket. Since it was delicious we were happy to accept her offer.
Had a wonderful lunch experience today! Took our friend for a birthday celebration and were served by Andrew who was so attentive, informative and had a great sense of humor! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was cozy and comfortable. Beautiful outdoor seating for warmer months. Andrew comped our friend's wine, and the desserts, in honor of the birthday girl! Wow! We will definitely be returning soon, and hoping Andrew will be there to serve us again.
The desserts, wine, apps were amazing! The food! OMG, the food!!! I had the eggplant Lasagna and that was absolutely delicious. There was 7 of us and none of us had duplicates and everything was so good! You will not be disappointed with anything on that menu. Also, the service was awesome! I wish I got the waitresses' name, she was an older lady that sounds like she smoked a pack a day. She was doting and all of her recommendations were on point! We'll be going back on our next trip.
Great restaurant in Sonoma. The food was delicious and the environment was great. They have a fireplace that makes the space very comfortable.
Our first time here for dinner and an all around excellent experience. From David who took care of us to the spaghetti Alla Chitarra and Tagliatelle Bolognese all was perfect. Beautiful outside pool dining area. Small parking lot but plenty of street parking away from the downtown Sonoma madness. We will be back on this trip and all future trips.
Food & Wine were amazing! Such a friendly staff and the service was exceptional. Beautiful atmosphere! A must if you're in Sonoma!
This cozy place took my heart. Pizza was amazing and deserts I’ve ordered were semi sweet and delightful! Perfect for dinner
All of the food was fresh. We had two great appetizers, the Hand-Pulled Mozzarella and the other was a special grilled asparagus with burrata and tomatoes. The best entree was the Tagliatelle Verde Bolognese. Would highly recommend sitting outside but try not to sit facing the setting sun.
Was great spot off the beaten path. Great atmosphere- we sat outdoors. I had the prime rib- it was cooked at the right temp, just not as flavorful as I had hoped. Some friends had the pork chop, they raved about it. We had reservations, so no wait
We didn't have a rez but they took us anyway. It was a great meal. We got a pro tip from one of the employees. Order the chocolate cake with raspberry sorbet instead of the vanilla gelato. Made our evening. We will definitely be back!
Special birthday surprise dinner for 10 poolside was a huge hit, and what a memory. The staff was great from helping to hide guests to bringing out the candle topped birthday cake and leading us in the happy birthday song. Chef made a selection of appetizers and we all ordered entrees…all the food drink and dessert was very good. What a beautiful evening, thank you to management and staff. Many thanks, Kim
Some of the best service we’ve ever had. Called on a warm winter day after a walk with the 2 year old and dogs and they set up an outside area for us. It must have been the owner? that was helping us and she took our daughter around the restaurant so it definitely has a very family owned vibe. Food came out really fast. Menu is a little different than The calamari was perfectly fried and flavored. Margarita pizza is what you would expect when ordering one. The short ribs were cooked very well but the sauce could have been better or there needed to be more to tie it all together. Idk if the beef was a little dry but the lack of sauce made it feel that way.
This was the best restaurant experience of my life. We came in to celebrate my sister's bachelorette party. The ambience was lovely. The layout of the restaurant was cozy but not crowded. The other guests there were wonderul, kind people. The food was fantastic. And then there was Charles. I could not in my wildest dreams have imagined better service than that which we received. Charles was kind and funny, helpful and so attentive. He knew the area well and helped us plan our evening. Whatever he's being paid, pay him more. He's truly one of a kind. Thank you for making the experience magical! I would drive back to Sonoma just to visit The Depot.
We showed up on a Sunday evening at 8 PM when they were closing. The staff still welcomed us in. We ordered pizza and the Ravu. WOW!!!! This place was fantastic. Service was great. Food was great. Wine was great. Absolutely recommend this place.
Exceeded my expectations. Relatively new ownership, food, service and atmosphere excellent. Warm welcome, salads served crisp and not overly dressed. Pasta dishes cooked perfectly. Oscar are server was attentive and professional. I can confidently recommend this restaurant.
We had a wonderful dinner at the depot in Sonoma last night. It's a little away from the plaza, but has its own cute charm with the old architecture. The server was kind to welcome us with a couple of glasses of champagne on knowing that it's our anniversary celebration. We had the hand pulled mozzarella bruschetta, lemon chicken and the broccoli gnocchi. The chicken was our favorite and I highly recommend it. The bruschetta was good but 4 pieces was heavy for 2 of us to eat. The gnocchi was decent. Definitely a good place for an occasion when in Sonoma.
A warm and cozy restaurant that will have you coming back again and again. In summer, outdoor dining, in winter enclosed patio n indoor dining room. Reaervations recommended.
After a day of wine tasting, six of us settled in to eat what turned out to be a terrific meal. My wife and I had never eaten at The Depot, though one of the couples had been before. Everything that we ordered was excellent. The liaison salad was excellent, I had the Tagliatelle, and everyone was pleased with their meal. We had very good service, however, our server had a very slight snarkiness about him (as if he had experienced a LOT of customers that had been wine tasting). He was still good at what he did - serve the table properly. Overall, I highly recommend the restaurant.
Went to the depot hotel for a birthday dinner. The atmosphere was nice and the back patio was nice and cool. We had a waiter with a "buttler from the Haunted Mansion" vibe about him. We dug it though, so whatever. The food was decent, but we weren't blown away. We ordered 2 of their pizzas for the table, again they were ok. We did lo e the desserts we ordered. The chocolate cake was delicious
I love Sonoma dining, and it is one of my preferred towns to visit for fine cuisine and its historical atmosphere. It is a lovely town. I had visited the Depot once many years ago, and I had a good experience then. The restaurant, as I remembered, is absolutely beautiful with an appealing layout and garden area with a center pool/fountain. However, the service was very disappointing this time, and the food even more so. The hostess and water service staff were nice, but my original server presented himself, and then left our table, and didn't even notify us. The second assigned server didn't apologize after serving a wine with cork pieces in it, and was mostly indifferent. The food was bland, and lacking flavor. The ingredients seem fresh, and the presentation was nice, but it really didn't hit the mark of flavor at all. I hope their chef can improve on the actual flavor/seasoning on the food to make it a par with the setting and lovely ambience. This would have been a hit if the servers were up to standard, and the food delivered. It was Father's Day!
Seems like they are just going through the motions. Have always loved that place. All four of us had bad meals. So disappointed. Our champagne was poured into white wine glasses. It's a pricey restaurant. I just can't go back. It was my recommendation. I'm so embarrassed. Only one good thing to say. They had Anchor Steam beer
I usually don’t write reviews but I feel like I need to share this feedback w the restaurant and those thinking about dining here. Despite the positive reviews you might be seeing here and on OpenTable, TL;DR I felt duped, disappointed, and wish we kept our org resi at Scala Osteria. We decide to skip our resi because we had just spend the late afternoon there and didn’t want to drive back. Instead, we thought we’d just find a yummy spot in town. We were hoping for a simple, warm, filling, and delicious meal. We had heard good things and the impression they make on IG looked promising. While the waitstaff was very kind and warm (you can tell they are working hard) and the host greeted us with warm wishes for our anniversary, the food was very mediocre. There are a few reviews w this same feedback on OT. Our server did pour us a small glass of champagne (in our wine glasses) which was a nice gesture but neither of us wanted to drink and I can’t drink champagne. The “French baguette” used in the $25 hand-pulled mozzarella app I’m pretty sure was ciabatta (very lightly toasted so it was pretty clear it was not French bread) I hate to say this but it tasted like it came from the grocery story. The mozzarella for that price was ok and barely had any sea salt which is called out on the menu. The dish did not live up to the price. My pasta was bland and the portion was tiny (maybe 6 bites!) and my husbands gnocchi had maybe 7/8 pieces on a bed of beans and chopped asparagus which we thought was an interesting but not strong pairing. While they were accommodating w any modifications we had, and they did bring out more pasta after I asked (I have never had to do this before!) the food was just really disappointing. There were def a few flags and I should have listened to my gut but it was a later resi 8p and I felt bad walking out! If you’re use to eating Amazing food, I unfortunately would not recommend. I hope they figure things out otherwise there are too many other amazing choices between Sonoma and Napa. Left wishing we dined pretty much anywhere else but there. So sad.
Loved the ambiance of this place, but unfortunately that is all it really has going for it. We were super disappointed with the food. The ceasar salad was disgusting, as it tasted like lettuce lathered with a mayo cream sauce with a sardine thrown on top. If you go, save your money and don't order it. Also the Rigatoni dish was super salty, the pasta was chewy and the meat chewy as well. Flavor was lacking aside from too much salt. Asked for extra cheese to try to make it taste better and it was still not satisfying. Sad to say. I am Italian and my husband and I eat at alot of Italian restaurants. The only food that tasted good was the arancini appetizer and crem Brule dessert. I Tried to stomach eating all of it without complaining because I we were celebrang our 26th wedding anniversary and I had only eaten 1 meal all day so super hungry. I will say that the server was amazing, but unfortunately the food was simply awful. What sets 1 restaurants apart from another has everything to do with the food. When the food is amazing we alway keep coming back and we bring our family and friends. This place is pricey so the food should be excellent. Unfortunately, this place was a 1 and done because the food was awful. If you want excellent Italian food I highly recommend you go to Montacatini in Walnut Creek, La Strada in American canyon, Venticellos in Benicia and or Marin Joe's in Corte Madera. These places will have you wanting to go back over and over again because the flavor of the food was out of this world and the service was amazing. It's worth the drive to try one of these other places. Sorry The Depot. This place I just can not promote to others 😞 food taste is everything when you pay a pretty penny to eat out and have the experience of high end food.
We dined here for Father’s Day. We were thankful they sat us with very little notice. Last-minute reservation meant missing out on the outdoor seating with the perfect ambiance, by the pool, and outdoor entertainment. We were the only ones dining indoors, which was why they forgot about us. Hostess was super friendly and gracious, but overall service was a disappointment. It took forever for our server to even acknowledge our table and to take our order. I realize they were busy since it was Father’s Day, but I say we were there for a good 20 minutes before our server got to to us. Good thing we ordered appetizers because we waited for a very long time for our entrees to be served also. Food was pretty good overall, except for the squid ink pasta that clearly lacked salt. Medium rare Steak was closer to medium than rare, but the chicken was tasty, and the salmon was perfectly cooked. The bread “appetizer” for $7 was a joke because it was the tiniest loaf we have ever seen in our lives. Oysters tasted fresh. Our server didn’t come back to check on us for sometime. When we were finally able to wave him down, we asked for a refill, but he never came back. A few minutes later, When we asked for the check, we reminded him of the refill, which he completely forgot to begin with. The automatic gratuity for a party of 7 was understandable. But for 22%, we expected a lot more, especially having spent $450 for dinner. Overall, very disappointed with the service but will probably give it another go in the future.
Worst food. Taste less. Not at all for vegetarian. Worst pasta in wite wine garlic sauce-bland. I had to omit out the salmon. Today was my Birthday & my husband already ordered Cake as surprise dessert but they totally forgot to serve it.
Post-funeral reception. Lovely place. Early blooming trees gently dropped their petals like soft pink snow. Tasty morsels, Friendly folks and exceptional service. Have had a few family celebrations here over the years. Highly recommended ! 12/192002 Now under new ownership. Do not under any circumstances give them your business.
BEWARE-this place has CLOSED forever, but they are still selling gift vertificates on their website. This is dishonest. OI bought my brother a gift certificate and when he tries to make a reservation online, it says "no reservations-thank you for your business" forever. They need to stop selling gift certificates.
I recommended this restaurant to my friend for her birthday dinner while we were in Sonoma for her 30th birthday. She proceeds to book a table online and receives confirmation; imagine my embarrassment when we arrive at the restaurant only to find it closed! We scrambled to find another place which was incredibly difficult. I don’t understand why they would accept and confirm reservations when not open. Why not turn off your availability? Definitely do not recommend for a special occasion.
We visited the Depot for dinner. The seating outside was very nice. Our service was very good for the first 15 or 20 minutes. We received water, drinks, and our appetizer in that time period and then we placed our order. After placing our order the staff basically disappeared. No one stopped for us to order additional drinks. Then we waited 45 minutes to an hour to receive our food. We had to go find our server to get water and additional drinks for the table. We received our food and in general it had very little flavor. The ribeye steak my wife order was basically raw in the middle and it had no flavor. It was a little tough and stringy. I ordered Spaghetti alla Chitarra it also really lacked much flavor. Some of the prawns were under cooked and they left the heads, tails, shell, etc on all the prawns. I understand this was done for presentation or to give it some flavor but it’s difficult to remove everything in a pasta sauce without making a huge mess. We were really disappointed.
I tried to eat here for my birthday, but apparently you don’t get served food at this “restaurant”. Making a reservation and showing up on time means you have to wait ten minutes for your table, and wait another ten for water. The staff were nice enough to repeatedly fill my water, but from the infighting I could hear, the waiters and hostesses disagree on when assignments are made and for what tables. Nice ambiance, can’t say anything about the food. First time I’ve been to a wine bar when no one offered to sell me a glass of wine either.
