Wok n Fire - S Barrington

First time at Wok n Fire, and got to say I will be coming back. Food was delicious. Jay was our server for the night and did a great job he had recommendations ready to go, friendly and positive energy.

Great place and reasonable prices. Plates on the table were clean so we had to change with table next to us. Not crowded place.

North Central Illinois Sushi and fabulous! Small town excellence. Incredibly fun atmosphere and delicious food, good service and great company! Parking could be difficult, be sure to make reservations and watch your leftovers, they might pick them up while you're conversating and throw them away without asking if you wanted a box. Downside, they want to turn your table, so once the check is paid you won't see your server again. Overall, great experience.

Incredibly average. My experience was lackluster at best at this restaurant. Numerous items were unavailable off the menu and they somehow didn’t carry any hot sauce. The items that we did order were bland to mild at best, which is very disappointing for a restaurant that is supposed to be serving high level Asian cuisine. The service was good, which is the only thing that saved my experience. Overpaying for average food is a major pet peeve of mine and this one was a shining example of that.

I ordered sushi, an eel roll and a spicy tuna roll. Both were horrible!! The eel was cold and chewy. The spicy tuna roll had some sort of mush that was inside. I had never experienced something like this before and I have been eating sushi for over 40 years. I didn’t finish either roll. I brought this up to the waiter and he told me “next time order the tuna roll with whole pieces because they GRATE the ingredients that are in the spicy tuna roll”. Grate?? I don’t think there was any tuna in that “grated mystery mix” that was in the spicy tuna roll. I would not suggest getting the Sushi at this restaurant, Go to a reputable sushi bar. My friend ordered the pad Thai, which was so spicy she could hardly eat it. I think she got through a quarter of what she had on her plate. Thumbs down to the pad Thai 👎

The food was good but too expensive for what it was same for the drinks. I gor a martini and it was not worth $15 maybe 6 or 8 but definitely not 15. The waitress didn't come over enough. She took our orders and left. We barely saw her after our food and drinks came. I don't think she asked once if anyone wanted another drink or dessert.

Pho soup is horrible! No liquid, almost no meat and a LOT of noodles. We ordered food for pick up, did not get any utensils or napkins. Horrible service, not recommended at all! When my husband called to ask about soup, lady on the phone started yelling at him. Really bad service in a great location, unfortunately:(

I placed an order via doordash. When I received the order, I noticed right away that my main entree was missing. I immediately called the store and was told that they were already aware, but that I would have to contact doordash for a refund. They forgot to give it to the driver. I asked to speak to a manager as that was my dinner and a refund wouldn't be edible. The manager only repeated the same thing. I asked if that meant I didn't get to eat tonight, and was literally told "yes".

Came at 7:30 on a Friday night and the doors were locked. Maybe we should learn how to update our business hours online and on the door. Don’t waste your time coming here.

UPDATE TO THE REVIEW BELOW: I have just heard from the business (below), and I will respond. Not sure which time zone your cameras are in, but their timing is way off. We arrived BEFORE 6p. Our table wasn’t ready, understandably, so we sat and waited in the little corner by the window. We were seated at the time I stated. Other couples were seated before us. I asked my husband at one point during our wait what time it was, and he said 6:05. Again, our server,April was very friendly and very nice. She came over, greeted us and took our drink order. She had to return to our table TWICE to apologize that we hadn’t received our drinks because they were very busy. I was seated facing the bar. My drink was made and sat on the bar pickup counter well before my husband’s. As our evening progressed, the bartenders picked up the pace, and then the servers couldn’t keep up with how quickly the drinks were being made. We received our appetizer BEFORE our drinks (sliders, they were delicious). As for the tuna. I have eaten it several times, prepared numerous ways and have never been disappointed like I was last night. What was a crime is how it was prepared. I ordered the tuna medium (my husband’s meat was ordered medium well and was still very pink inside). I know blackened meat. I’ve eaten blackened meat my entire life. This tuna was not blackened, but encrusted in so much seasoning and salt to appear that it was blackened. I couldn’t taste the tuna even if I wanted to. We did not bring these issues up with April. It wouldn’t have made any difference as a resolution unfortunately wouldn’t have come quickly and others needed to be seated. At the end, my husband had to get up and go to April at the bar counter to verify that we were charged correctly, as she initially gave us another customer’s ticket. I loved this restaurant, and have recommended it for years. I practically begged my husband to come here for our date. It sucks to spend almost $200, tip included, and be this disappointed. I’m sorry you don’t like this review, but I’ve always been honest with my assessments. Based on our experience, and other current reviews I’ve read, it’s more than apparent you all have some opportunities that need fixing. ——————— DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT! I’ve been here several times, the last of which was in 2021, and the service, cleanliness, quality and price have all gone downhill. We went Valentine’s night, and there were only 2 servers! The male host was running around like a fool and the female host was rude and unfriendly. Way overpriced, took 30 minutes to receive two bar drinks that were diluted and $15 each, food poorly prepared, poorly seasoned and may potentially make me sick later tonight. Sorry, but we won’t be returning.
