Amazing place all around! The views are beautiful and the staff go above and beyond for their customers. The chef went out of his way to make the clam linguine I requested, it was absolutely delicious! Our server was Jack and he was by far the best server we've had to date, going above and beyond for us! You have to have the famous Rum Runners they are awesome and I promise you won't regret it!!!
Overall: Nice place for a lunch (and dinner) on the deck looking out at the beach/lake. Food: Looks like their menu has changed and prices are up since the pandemic. Carne Asada street tacos were tasty but would have been better with a side of beans and/or rice (for the $20+ costs). Fish and Chips served a healthy amount of both and were also tasty. The Mahi fish sandwich – fish was cooked nice but was bland…fixed it be adding tarter sauce. The Sausage and Shrimp nachos were unusual (not a common combo) but the report was they were delicious. Drink: Bloody Mary was just right around of spicy, thickness, and alcohol. Atmosphere: the deck is crowded with tables…but not too crowded. Get here early if you want a decent spot (or a spot at all). We arrived at 11:30 and was packed by noon. Price: All the dishes hovered around $20. Gauging from pricing I found online from previous menus it looks like the pandemic took its toll here as well. Second time there (7-7-2023): Ordered the Sausage/Shrimp Nachos again...this time not so good. Well, the first few bites were good but eat quick bc the chipotle queso is at the bottom and turning all the chips floppy. After a few mins the thing just turned to mushy soup. Also had the Mac n Cheese. I liked it, but the gals both said its was too runny. Bloody Mary's were again delish.
Formerly called the Beacon, which was a fun Summer gathering place with great views and famed Rum Runner drinks. Now operated as The Grove Beach Bar & Grill, the lakeside view & atmosphere remain and a big remodel is in the future plans. Don't overlook doing a winter time visit, which is much more quiet but enjoyable. The Grove has some excellent adds to both the menu & cocktail selections. The Old Traveller Manhattan is a very smooth aged whiskey cocktail with hints of vanilla and worth repeating. The Crispy Brussels appetizer was a creative and tasty plate of fried sprouts, cheese, & bacon topped with a nice chili glaze. Service was friendly and attentive, especially during less peak time winter time visits. Glad to see the character of this iconic spot remains, plus some new foods, and looking forward to seeing what is in the remodel plans!
Best Bartenders ever! Dave & Cory are fun and make amazing drinks. The live music is awesome! My kids love the water access. Best thing about the place is the friendly service. I do wish they’d validate parking again.
We stopped in on our way to return the E-bikes we rented to ride around Lake Tahoe so we only had iced tea and coke. We also had the pretzel bites with beer cheese, which was very tasty. This place has outdoor seating at the Lake Tahoe beach and boat area, and it was a beautiful day, and fun to watch people and the wild life interact with one another.
True lake front hangouts for food and drinks are somewhat rare around the lake. Many offer a "view" but nothing beats being up close with a sandy beach. For South Lake Tahoe, The Grove is it. We didn't try the food but the items we saw looked decent. Instead we sat enjoying the amazing weather, views and a few cocktails. The drinks were well poured but a tad on the pricey side. Consider it paying for the view. Our service was great to top it off. We closed our tab once only to reopen it as we were enjoying the day too much to leave. There is plenty of parking with a fee to enter Camp Richardson where The Grove is located.
We came in on a hot and busy Sunday afternoon. We were told it would be 1.5 hour wait and it turned out to be 30 min. The staff was super attentive in trying to find us some shade as we sat outside. Once we were able to get some shade, the service and food were spot on. Love music added to the atmosphere but the shade covers at the beach blocked some of the view. We had pretzel bites, burrata salad, fish and chips, salad, and shrimp tacos. Not to mention the Rum Runners. All were fantastic. I cannot say enough for the service from the host to servers, 5 stars
The restaurant with a view. They have mirrors inside so if you sit in either direction will see Lake Tahoe. But what was amazing was the people and food. The server was so well spoken and nice that it felt like middle of some great city. And the food was also top notch. The server mentions what is special which is not written in the menu and that dish was really special. Amazing experience. 😊
I’m so glad I visited this incredible place—it truly felt like heaven! The views of the lake, combined with outstanding service, delicious food, and a beautiful ambiance, made it an unforgettable experience. We loved everything we ordered: the calamari, shrimp tacos, and salmon were all mouth-watering, and my child’s hamburger was exceptional too—nothing was average! You can choose to dine indoors or outside by the lake, which adds to the charm. The only downside is the wait time, but once seated, the service was quick. Our server was great too. I just wish it were closer, as we live in Sacramento, but I’m more than willing to make the trip again just for the food and views!
Honestly they got some pretty good food and portion sizes for the price. Even though it is quite expensive you pay for the beautiful views of Lake Tahoe. My friends had a great time highly recommend the fried fish it was quite good. The clam chowder also looked good but it does come in a bread bowl. Overall pretty good and there’s some other places nearby to get ice cream and such. Also the way they fry things is so dam good and the zucchini fries were great.
I had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful place about a year ago, and I'm finally taking the time to share my experience. The food may be simple, but it's incredibly tasty. What truly won me over was the ambiance and the captivating view from the window. After enjoying a delightful brunch, we strolled along the beach right in front of the restaurant. The views were nothing short of breathtaking! In just a week, I'll be returning to this gem, and I'm bringing a bunch of friends along. I can't wait to see how their experience unfolds! 😊
Very nice lake-side restaurant. Try to get seating outside if the weather is good. The server Tim was quite friendly and hospitable. I ordered the calamari and it was great. Very different from all other calamari plates. It was wonderfully crispy and the calamari was a good texture. You get to see the geese and ducks hanging on the lake shore. Some might even come up to you with open mouths.
Had the Pretzel Bites with beer Cheese and the Marinated Tomatoes & Burata appetizers for lunch which were delicious. Along with a beer on tap and the Grove's Lemonade. Everything was really good…

We lunched at The Grove. Merrick was our waiter. Friendly and efficient. We ordered the Grove burger, excellent and the house salad. It was a beautiful day!
The service was terrific. Our table ordered the salmon, shrimp and grits and a burger. Super tasty and the presentation was absolutely first class. Very reasonable prices and going back real soon! …
We visited during happy hour. price is fair being south lake Tahoe.\n\nThings I liked:\nGreat customer service.\nThere was a live band playing.\nFood quality was good.\nAwesome view of the beach
Loved my pulled pork but my companion who ordered the sausages found them to be extremely tastless. I agreed upon trying. But the other food was quite good. Lovely short walk down the pier.
The Grove is located inside Richardson Park, so you’ll need to pay a $12 entrance fee to get in. That said, when I told the park ranger I was heading to The Grove, she gave me two $5 voucher coins to use toward food or drinks (one coin per item and there were 5 of us in the car). So in the end, I only paid $2 to get in! Definitely mention to the rangers that you’re going to The Grove—they might hook you up with a coin or two if they have them! The service here is fantastic. The bartenders were upbeat, friendly, and clearly enjoying themselves, which created such a fun, welcoming atmosphere. We walked right up to the bar, ordered a Rum Runner (their famous specialty drink) and found a nice bench outside to sip and relax. The location is unbeatable. Tallac Shoreline is just steps behind the restaurant, making it the perfect place to grab a drink and hang out on the beach. It’s also a great spot for families—plenty of space for kids to swim and play. My only complaint is the price and inconsistency of the Rum Runners. The first time, we ordered the smaller size and loved them—delicious and totally worth it. The second time, we went for the large size and paid $74+ tip for three. They tasted overly sweet and oddly seemed to have less alcohol than the smaller ones. Definitely recommend sticking with the smaller size for the best experience! Overall, The Grove has great staff, a beautiful setting, and a laid-back beach vibe that makes it a fun stop while you’re in Tahoe!

The ambience excited me the most about the place. Their service and location is really good. The food we expected more from the reviews online but didn’t meet our expectations. We expected to have some more flavor and kick but in contrast the food was a bit bland. The vegetarian food was average and my veg friends had more than half leftover as they couldn’t eat it. I had fish and chips, the fish was fresh but was bland. It would have been amazing if they had some flavor. Also this place is really expensive for the food but I would recommend this place for gorgeous lake experience and bar if you drink.

Our family has been going to the beacon for years. We have a cabin with many family owners. We have all been to the grove. Never again. expensive and terrible food. Dirty , old carpets and bathroom…
I’ve had some great days at The Beacon, but after the recent change in management, those days are officially over. Everything that made this place a local gem has been stripped away and replaced with a mediocre, identity-crisis experience. The biggest disappointment was the food. They’ve tried to force an "Asian twist" on the menu that absolutely nobody asked for, and it misses the mark entirely. The execution was subpar, and the quality control was nonexistent. Beyond the flavors being off, the basics were neglected; we were served in dirty glasses, which is a massive red flag for any restaurant. The service was just as weak as the kitchen. We waited far too long for simple requests, and the staff seemed totally indifferent to the poor experience we were having. We came in expecting the classic atmosphere, great food, and the Rum Runners that The Beacon was known for. Instead, the fun was sucked out of what should have been a nice day out. The spirit of the original place is completely gone. Save your money and go somewhere that actually cares about experience and memories.
