Opinions de Izanami South San Francisco
The best sushi in South San Francisco. Maybe in all of San Francisco actually .Look no further. Local South San Francisco resident here when I come here every single week. Cindy and her staff are like extended family to me. Highly recommend getting the Toro sushi and King salmon in Nigiri. The miso soup is some of the best you've ever had. And the galbi dinner is also extremely delicious. Don't listen to any of these negative reviews that are posted here. They clearly didn't order the right things or just don't know what they're talking about. Amazing service and even better food. They have TVs as well where they're playing the game. If you're interested in watching the warriors Dominate. Take my advice for it. I have to eat at Michelin star restaurants for work on a weekly basis and this is definitely up there
My office orders Izanami on a weekly basis and they NEVER disappoint! My coworkers often order sashimi and the quality is obvious, especially compared to other sushi places we've tried to order from. I regret ever straying from Izanami. ;) Also, they make sure to package hot/fried rolls separate from cold rolls - super important! Quality ingredients, fast delivery, friendly people, and a big menu make for a great experience week after week. Thank you!
Genuinely one of the best restaurants I've been to. The food was fresh and absolutely delicious, and the menu was unique and interesting. Never thought I'd love eating chicken hearts! The staff was also very helpful and kind. Hope I can come back soon!
My family and I had the stuffed mushrooms, spicy wings, and fried garlic crab for appetizers. We then had the chicken ramen, beef ramen, tonkotsu ramen, and the spicy sea food ramen. The service was awesome. The food was just as great as the service.
Really tasty. Chefs, staff and service was great. I had a (mostly) yellow tail roll w/ ponzu, very tasty king salmon and bowl of miso. Ive not been in So SF a lot but I liked this restaurant.
Our first time here. My wife and I enjoyed our lunch. The food was delicious. I will be coming back often for the Salmon Shioyaki. Soup, salad, rice and the salmon shioyaki for $10.95. Great deal.
Excellent, expertly cut and presented sashimi and nigiri. Very nice and friendly service. Planning to return soon.
Love all their different types of ramen and sushi well price. Great service not busy
We were at a friend's birthday dinner. It was very good! The whole front area was filled with her friends! The birthday person had karaoke, which was very nice!! It is great when you are a regular there!!! Thanks so much for allowing something special for a special friend.
Went to this sushi spot craving some unagi rolls. Tried their specialty "Firecracker" roll, which had unagi, avocado, seared salmon, jalapeño, and spicy mayo. The rolls were really yummy and had a decent kick. Also tried their tonkotsu ramen. I'm pretty picky with my ramen as I prefer a thicker creamier broth. This definitely had the creamy tonkotsu flavor that I like. Would recommend this spot for sushi and ramen! Each plate was around $10-$20.
I was seated right away during lunch time and it wasn't too busy. My favorite and reason for my visit was to have the torikawa (chicken skin skewers) I also had the Bento with the shrimp tempura and shioyaki salmon. Everything was delicious 😋 I almost forgot to take photos as I was hungry lol... price was also reasonable.
Had the tonkotsu ramen, chicken karaage, and fried pot stickers. The tonkotsu ramen at this price level is great value. Broth wasn't the most complex, but tasted good. The noodles were flavorful and pork was just okay. The chicken karaage wasn't super crispy, but again, great taste and quantity for the value. Staff was friendly and service was fast. Would recommend for a quick bite.
I almost don’t want to leave a review as this place is such a hidden gem. We got a dragon roll, chicken teriyaki, and a miso ramen. We devoured the roll, it was incredibly fresh. The miso ramen was very flavorful and massive. What really made our visit memorable was the spectacular customer service. We came in 30ish minutes before closing and not once did we feel rushed, the waiter was so welcoming. Must visit, you will not regret!
I've eaten their tan tan ramen a few times over the years, and it has been consistently excellent every time. Just the right amount of heat with a good mixture of ingredients. Well maintained restaurant and friendly staff too.
It's been a while since I had good ramen. Tried Spicy Garlic Miso Ramen & Spicy Mala Tonkotso Ramen. Broth was good, well seasoned, not too spicy, had creamy umami flavor, noodles were perfectly cooked. I had Spicy Garlic Miso substitued with chicken, it was yummy very full filling, ramen craving was satisfied. Atmosphere & ambience at Izanami was cozy, pleasant and very inviting. Besides ramen they have good variety of excellent sushi and other Japanese entrees on their menu. They do have good selection of Vegetarian Ramen & entrees too💖.
Amazing. Visiting from Colorado. The service was great. Had the best sushi ever! Fresh and delicious. Nothing like we’ve ever had. Lion king roll, SF giant roll. Spicy blue fin that was actually spicy! So good. Flame on!! Definitely the coolest roll I’ve ever had 🤘
We were lucky to find this place while heading up to SF and craving some ramen / not wanting to deal with city parking. I got the fried chicken ramen and it was delicious - they don't skimp on protein, and the broth was decently spicy. 5/5, would recommend.
Absolutely delicious. The price is affordable and the attention wonderful. The two girls who served us were attentive and friendly. One of them explained to us that they have promotions at lunch.
Picked up a chicken ramen to go and it was amazing. Will definitely come back to try other ramens in the restaurant as well as their sushi menu!
This place was absolutely amazing. I had the sashimi salmon and Toro belly with some rice. It was a bit expensive 40 bucks but I guess it was worth it because it was so damn delicious.😋 I don’t know sometimes you just can’t put a price on good food

Very good food and good prices. Its never too crowded so ive always found a seat. Quick service and food doesnt take long to come out.

Food was really delicious , tea could be stronger for my desire solely but that’s just my own preference. We ordered calamari , sushi rolls, rice and miso soup very reasonably price and VERY delicious!
We were pretty happy with the ramen, though the bullion seemed a bit bland. They offer great size portions and everything is fairly priced. Only real complaint was our server who was hopefully just having a bad day, or maybe that’s just California hospitality.
Very good basic japenese food. I will be going here as my go to place. Price and portion size were great. Loved the tempura!!! If you need a good solid meal this is the place to go. The tempura is fantastic. I always get the chicken teriyaki bento type box. I have only done pick up but the atmosphere seemed conducive to good food and conversation. The sushi here is great from what my friends say about it. I like supporting a local restaurant that has great food!!
Enjoyed the grilled mackerel plate. Flavor was great. Had dynamite roll and mixed seafood baked. If I had just the appetizers it would be a sufficient lunch with rice. I would do a repeat to try ramen next
Food was outstanding. Their ramen & sushi lunch combo was exactly what I wanted. The tuna used for the Tekka Don melted in my mouth and the chicken ramen was perfectly spicy and flavorful. Would go here regularly if I was local. Gave 4 stars only because the service was minimal.
Fantastic Japanese restaurant! The standout items on the menu are the sushi and the spicy tonkotsu/miso ramen. For sushi, the lava roll was to die for. The service was outstanding as well! While I think adding more decorations to the walls would enhance the atmosphere, I still highly recommend this spot for anyone seeking delicious spicy ramen outside the bustling San Francisco Japantown area.
Stopped in for a quick bite, seated quickly, and drinks also came quickly. Food was well prepared but lacked a lil on serving size. Overall delicious and prices were not too bad.
Service was 10/10, the guy was just awesomely friendly. Solid place, roll was yummy, not sure if I was just hungry or something, but the wasabi was good. Chicken teriyaki was minimally seasoned which I liked, but to most people they would probably think it was bland. Come here for the sushi of course, not for the other stuff. Will try more rolls in the future.
Yum!! 😋😋Food quantity for Spicy Garlic Miso Ramen was a lot that could have easily been split between two people. It was flavorful and the noodles were perfectly cooked, addition of garlic and additional sea weeds toppings were also good. Would recommend this ramen and place to anyone who is looking for a flavorful and satisfying Vegetarian RAMEN meal.
We wanted some noodles, and Izanami did not disappoint. We had mild to medium vegetables in miso and almond milk sauce - delicious!!! We ate there twice on our recent visit. Highly recommended!!!

I only had a mediocre experience. I stumbled into it because the restaurant name had ‘ramen’, and there was a good review on the spicy one. I ordered the classic Tonkotsu, but was thoroughly disappointed. I’m astounded how inconsistent it can be - compared to other’s review. My bowl taste like it was pre-made. The ramen were clumpy, soft boiled egg cooked too long and the pork was tough and didn’t have flavor. In fact, the waiter said my ramen will be out a lot sooner than my grilled mackerel. Good on the wait staff for knowing the timing, bad on the kitchen staff for pre-making the ramen. The decor felt like it was repurposed from a former Middle Eastern restaurant. The price point reflected what I got in value.
This place is OK. I would pay $12 for their ramen but price seems not matching to the taste. I want to mention that the waitress and the owner are very nice. But, the sushiman has really bad attitude that he won't even respond if you ask questions.
Izanami is a spacious sushi restaurant in South San Francisco with good service and quality sushi. The space is open with 2 separate rooms and a sushi bar in front. The food is pretty good, fish has always been fresh and rolls are well made. They will occasionally run out of a certain ingredients but overall the menu is good. It can be very busy during the lunch rush but for the most point food comes out quickly. If you are in South City for lunch, this is one of the better options.
What we ordered & my thoughts: > Edamame $4.95 Simple and healthy appetizer! One of my favorite snacks/appetizers. > Spicy Garlic Miso Belly (+ Pork Belly) $21 My partner ordered this one, he felt it was a big bland and nothing to special. Didn’t feel it’s worth the $21 :( > Bento Box Special (Braised tofu & Chicken Teriyaki) $11.95 This was a pretty good deal for a bento box, normally bento boxes are between $15-20. You can choose from quite a lot of options. For the price and for what it is, I’d say this is worth it and would recommend! Everything was pretty tasty and I had some leftovers too. ps this doesn’t come with miso soup~ > Lion King Roll $14.95 One of our favorite sushi rolls, we love that it’s warm since it’s baked and all the ingredients blend so well together! It feels slightly melted as it’s been baked~ > Yakitori $6.95 This came with 2 skewers, it was chicken thigh and scallion. I was to full to eat this the day of and so I ate it the next day at lunch, it wasn’t good being warmed up again so I assume it’s probably better eating it when it was still hot & fresh haha Overall eating 3/5
Sashimi and sushi was very good. Salmon teriyaki lunch special was ok. The gyoza in the lunch special was deep fried, not pan fried as traditionally prepared. We didn’t get to sample their ramen. They got one of our orders wrong, there was no apology, and it took a long time to get the correct order served. It wasn’t too busy during the lunch hour. We were too impressed.
We ordered delivery of two chicken ramen bowls from them. We were about 50 cents shy of the minimum order, so had to add a $7 appetizer that we didn't want. We chose them because they were only half mile from our hotel and promising short delivery times. We asked for our Ramen medium spicy. After 40 minutes, a while after food was due, I called to see if it had been delivered (since we didn't find it in our lobby). They told me driver was picking it up, and we'd see it in 5-10 minutes. So I told them thank you. We are literally a few minutes away. Still 20 minutes later no food. I called again and got the same promise as the first time! Ugh 😩. Almost $50 for two bowls of ramen and a forced appetizer. When it finally arrived it was not that hot and they hadn't added any spice as we had requested. Such a bummer. I wish they'd make this right! Otherwise we won't be trying again! Based on our experience so far, I'd recommend not to waste your money!
Just so so. Had the spicy chicken wing appetizer, not spicy at all but to salty. Also ordered the ramen with fried chicken, extra spicy. Again it was just a tad bit spicy than the regular spicy my fried had.

Pretty mid all around. Staff were friendly and the place was pretty empty so finding a seat and being served was fairly quick. But not cheap enough to make up for the mediocre aspects.
Service was subpar. Food was just okay. I got the tonkatsu ramen, and It was very bland. I wanted some hot sauce but couldn't get anyone to come over. They did seem to have a regular who was there and they spent the most of the time with them. I get we need to take care of our regulars but not at the expense of a new customer. A little chili sauce that he had on his table would have probably made my ramen a hundred times better.
The Spicy Garlic Miso Ramen fell short of expectations. The flavor was mediocre, lacking depth and a pronounced garlic taste. Service was slow, and the prices seemed high for the underwhelming food. I wouldn't hurry back for another visit.
Sushi was kinda meh, ramen also mediocre. Never really seen a 10 piece sushi be so cheap in quality but not cheap in price.

Poor service! They included gratuity for 4 adults and two small children who did not eat. Waited about 20 min for bill once done eating. The food was over priced for the quality. Sushi 3 out 10 Ramen 4 out of 10. Would not recommend or go back.
I had a bad experience here. It was almost empty on Wednesday night and with only one other pair of patrons in the restaurant. We were last to order. We were served quickly but my tonkotsu ramen turned out to be sweet. When I asked the server to check my bowl with the chef, they came back saying it's not sweet and this is how their tonkotsu ramen is. Sprinkling quite a bit of salt on it didn't help with the taste.
I don’t post bad reviews often, but this is probably the worst restaurant review I’ve ever written. The service was good, but the food was really bad. We ordered shoyu and tonkotsu ramen—both were just plain salty. We also ordered a roll, but it was just so-so. The worst part is that after coming home, we both felt weird stomach discomfort, and my husband had to rush to the bathroom. Won’t be visiting this restaurant again.
