We had a queen suite (the Porch Suite) in one of their Village houses). We were able to bring our dogs, as they have certain pet friendly rooms). It was for our 10th anniversary, and they left a bottle of wine and a very nice note. Had a late lunch in the Main Dining room - out server was friendly and just attentive enough. Food was delicious and the warm apple cider(with a touch of rum) hit the spot on a cold winters day!! Our check in went smoothly and housekeeping was very sweet and ensured we had all that we needed. Cannot wait to come back!!
We stopped into the Red Lion Inn while exploring Stockbridge, and even without staying overnight, it was absolutely worth the visit. The amount of history here is incredible. You really feel it just walking the halls. We popped in to warm up with hot beverages, relax in the lobby, and explore inside. As a kid, I remember hearing stories about the inn being haunted, and learning more about the building now, it’s easy to see why people say that. Some of the older architectural details, like rooms with adjoining bathrooms, always stood out to me and add to the character. The location is perfect- right near the Norman Rockwell Museum and surrounded by charming shops and walkable streets. It’s cozy, inviting, and very classic New England. Even as a short stop, the Red Lion Inn felt special. If you’re visiting Stockbridge, it’s worth stepping inside just to experience the history and atmosphere.
Very nice and romantic vibes. Not too loud. The kale and pear salad was phenomenal especially with the freshly grated cheese on top. Filet mignon was delicious. Roasted Chicken was absolutely juicy. Deserts was A+ as we got the warm brown sugar cake and pecan pie. Service was on point and maître d’ was very welcoming and nice. Must go!!
Nothing, and I mean nothing, has changed over the many decades our family has been enjoying The Red Lion Inn…and that’s why we keep coming back! The rooms are not fancy but unique, quaint and filled with charm! The wood floors undulate and creak throughout the Inn and there are antique furnishings scattered everywhere. The food at the main restaurant is top notch and offers menu classics along with seasonal specialties. We are already looking forward to returning!
Classic New England charm with a comfortable, well-kept feel. The property is full of character, from the historic architecture to the cozy common areas. Staff are welcoming, and the atmosphere is relaxed without feeling dated. A great spot for a quiet getaway, with easy access to the town and nearby scenic areas. Solid food, clean rooms, and a sense of history that actually adds to the stay.
Having read the reviews I would add the following. The inn may not be what you have in mind for a get away so with that I would recommend you prepare yourself and your expectations. Check in process -flawless. We arrived on time - 4pm and parked near our reserved room first then walked to the front desk for our room keys. Room cleanliness -exactly what we ordered. The main inn -first floor room with lots off light and freshness. Food - the absolute best turkey stuffing and cranberry sandwich you could ask for. This was take out which we enjoyed in our room. Staff -Lillian greeted us with a personalized message that added to our wonderful experience. Atmosphere - dated and for good reason. Slow down and enjoy the views from the front porch just as you would wish for during your chaotic days back home. Much more positives could be said - walk the property from top to bottom and see the artwork and furnishings that make this property unique, classic and mysterious. We will be returning. Kudos to the staff.
We came to the Red Lion Inn as a short getaway. Our room is cozy, the bath/shower water is always exactly the right degree of hot, the inn lobby is bustling with festive cheer, the dining room serves excellent food, the staff members have all been very pleasant and helpful, the hallways are quaint and articled with rich, historical decor from across the last 200+ years. The fireplace has been roaring with life each night. The inn delights the young and old alike. We have not met unhappy guests.
Placed restaurant reservations weeks before the date of arrival. No complications, complaints, or mistakes made by our waiter. My food was delivered cold to me and when I notified our waiter it was immediately returned to the kitchen for correction. I have patronized the Inn multiple times in the past over many years. I return time and time again. Our cocktails were made to perfection. It was lightly snowing outside adding to the charm of the quaint New England Inn. Spent about 6 hrs there and once again had the best of time. Looking forward to a return for a weekend stay.
We did not stay at the inn but visitors are welcome to explore the building or just sit on the massive front porch and soak in the peacefulness. The Red Lion Inn is an iconic gem to Stockbridge. Rich with history, upon entering you go back in time. It would be like entering the Titanic. Artifacts and photos from a bygone era. Let your imagine wander. Dining is available. Best to make reservations.
We had a great lunch here today! The Dining Room is very elegant in this 200 year old building with big chandeliers and incredible service. Julian was our server and he was excellent. He was very attentive, engaging and polite. We enjoyed having him as our server. He handles all his tables with great expertise. The food was delicious and we listened to all of Julian’’s recommendations. Since I’m celebrating my birthday it was the perfect place to have a more upscale lunch. We noticed a lot of people were there also celebrating birthdays or anniversaries. Again, thanks to Julian for a very pleasant experience and to the very nice hostess that made sure we got a table by the window! We highly recommend this place! Regards, Rob & Keith
A classic New England Inn. Extremely warm and charming though showing signs of wear. Parking can be a bit of a hassle. Front desk staff are very helpful. Be aware that there are several other properties that are owned by but not separate from the main inn.

Guests are enveloped by a serene atmosphere that feels exclusive, ensuring a relaxing and enjoyable escape from the everyday hustle. With its rich history and inviting décor, the Red Lion Inn perfectly blends comfort with timeless beauty. We just placed an order that promises to ignite our taste buds! **Roast Prime Rib of Beef** Get ready to indulge in an enormous, mouthwatering cut of prime rib, roasted to perfection! Seasoned with an incredible blend of aromatic herbs and spices, this tender and juicy beef is slow-cooked for an unforgettable explosion of flavor in every single bite. It comes with luscious au jus and zesty horseradish sauce, creating a classic dish you’ll dream about long after the last bite! **Signature Vegetarian Patty** For the adventurous vegetarians in our group, we went for the fabulous Chickpea and Quinoa Patty, drizzled with a refreshing Tzatziki sauce that adds the perfect twist! A colorful medley of savory vegetables and warm, grilled naan bread accompany the dish in perfect harmony. I couldn’t resist taking a bite, and let me tell you—it was an exhilarating burst of flavors dancing across my palate! Every element was beautifully seasoned, creating a truly enchanting experience! Thank you to the entire crew and the chef for crafting such a perfect culinary adventure!
Did not stay overnight. Unable to rate rooms. Food and service at restaurant was great!
We had lunch with friends and it was nice. The food selection was good for everyone. We all got different things and each enjoyed theirs. The service was great: everyone was very attentive. When the dining room was full it was a bit loud but as the crowd lessened it was a nice atmosphere.
The Red Lion Inn will forever hold a special place in my heart now. Every year we travel to different Inns, historic or spooky in our home state of Massachusetts. We celebrated the New Year weekend here and loved everything about the Inn. Beautiful details, rich history and incredible food and service. My fiance purposed Jan 3rd in room 301, it just made the whole weekend that much better. We will for sure be back!
I recently reached out to the Red Lion Inn to help with my surprise proposal. Needless to say the venue was the perfect location and the staff went above and beyond to make this an unforgettable day for the two of us. I couldn't be more thankful for their help and we will certainly be coming back.
The inn has a very nice lobby and is a nice place to talk to people. The restaurant has some of the best food I’ve ever tasted, and they have tea and coffee in the morning that is complimentary. There is a hot tub and pool, for the pool there is floats and toys for kids. A great place to go for a weekend getaway.
Beautiful stay for my birthday weekend! Excellent service, delicious food, and a beautiful room! I will definitely be going back and highly recommend! The maple glen was stunning.
This is a lovely Inn across the road from Tanglewood. The staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Room was comfy and they have a nice breakfast. The location is good and close to nearby towns for day hikes, shopping, and meals.
We just returned from a wonderful two-night stay at The Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge! My wife and I, along with our 3- and 6-year-old daughters, had an amazing time. The pool was a huge hit with the kids, and we all loved listening to live jazz on Sunday night. Every meal we had was delicious, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Special thanks to Lillian at the front desk—our girls were thrilled with the treasure chest gifts she offered. Highly recommend for families looking for a memorable getaway!
We did holiday decorating for the inn and all the staff were very accommodating and helpful throughout the process. We joined working with them and look forward to visiting during the Stockbridge Main St at Christmas event!
This place is a magical blast to the past. It has been around since 1773 and as cheesy as it sounds it feels like the spirits of old still inhabit this marvelous enchanting inn. When you first step foot on the premises your heart will be warmed with a strong feeling of love, safety and comfort, preserved in this space for centuries. You will marvel at the rich display of art and furniture, assembled with intricate variety. For those adventurous souls seeking supernatural intrigues you might encounter a melancholy ghost wandering the haunted halls and rooms of the 4th floor. No joke. The 4th floor is haunted, if some staff and guests are to believed. I didn’t see any ghosts, but I certainly felt an unmistakeable dampening in the energy when I briefly explored the area. Stick to the first two floors if that isn’t your thing. Great place for the artist, history buff or writer to sojourn for inspiration.
The Red Lion is a beautiful Historic Inn. We usually book a main inn deluxe king suite with a fireplace. December is a great time in Stockbridge. They have the recreation of the main street Christmas, winter lights at Naumkaeg and other holiday light shows at the mount etc. The widow Bingham tavern in the inn is decently priced and the food is great. The main dining room serves an upscale meal at a very upscale price. You can't go wrong sitting in the main reception area by the fireplace when they have a harpist playing or a pianist. The hot tub and pool are heated and are nice to go in even on a cold snowy December evening. The hallways are curated with art and antiques that increase the charm of the inn. Its a beautiful place that you will enjoy but that enjoyment comes at a premium price.
We spent three nights on the 3rd floor of the Red Lion Inn and our experience was outstanding and even better than expected. We read some of the negative reviews and decided to be hopeful – but we also knew that rambling and sometimes dusty historic old hotels are fun to explore and carry hidden treasures. Well, the treasures at the Red Lion Inn are all out in the open – A velvet-strewn lobby w/a huge crackling fireplace and plenty of well-heeled wine-sippers at all hours, great for people watching and reading. Two dimly lit taverns where we enjoyed both dinner and late night jazz on different evenings. Best chicken pie ever! A very clean and nicely isolated heated outdoor pool (big) and jacuzzi which were heavenly in sub-40 degree winds and open until 10. And a labyrinth of hallways lined with books, art, and furniture from another age covering four floors, complete with library sitting rooms at each elevator landing. Our rooms were similar in decoration and maybe had some cosmetic imperfections - and the entire “The Shining” vibe may not be for everyone. but If You Know You Know – the Red Lion is way more interesting than scary and it’s also cleaner and friendlier than some of the reviews indicate. I think maybe some guests were expecting a modern cruise ship instead of an early 20th Century ocean liner! We loved it!
We stopped here for late lunch and selected from a limited menu, between seatings. The smash burger was delicious and they served GF fries!! There is an outdoor patio but we sat inside. Moody dark interior, very historic and interesting. There was seating on the front porch too, cocktails and games.
Did not Stay on property have lunch on one day and dinner on another food was a little bit pricey but outstanding. I’ve stayed here before to become a little too expensive for my taste, though it is a wonderful place.
We stopped in here to have a nice dinner. We sat outside and although the service was slow, we enjoyed the atmosphere and had a great conversation over good food.
I am rating the tavern, restaurant and main lobby. I did nit spend the night. I cam in as a guest for lunch and drinks while touring the town. The historic charm was all over the place. Service was very good, food was above average. We thoroughly enjoyed stopping in.
We had the opportunity to visit the Red Lion Inn for their gourmet dinner. They offered several delicious menu entrées, salads and starters with a host of beverages. The dining room is period centric and upscale and higher end dining. We would recommend anyone visiting the quaint town to give the red lion a try.
This hotel has history and is an interesting place to stay, but it really needs an update to match the quality to the price. I’m not suggesting that it should lose its Victorian charm, but as others have commented, it feels taped together at the seams. All the being said, we enjoyed our stay here and especially appreciated the basement bar (including the band).
The place is in desperate need of renovations. Food was terrible. Weird menu and they couldn't even do a simple Cobb Salad correctly. This place and the food are highly overpriced. We also stayed one night and were thankful it was only one. The bathroom in the room was nice. The rest needs work.
Red Lion inn in Stockbridge MA is well known historical inn and pub. The inn itself has this romantic char and people go there for the experience. It is a piece of history; you are not there for modern amenities and luxury. The tavern where we opted to eat offers shortlist menu options, but it is ok as you are there for the atmosphere and the chance to dine in a historic establishment. With that said the bar has limited seating capacity and it is rather small but very authentic. Tables in the pub area are also very economically sized. Waiter was extremely nice, food on the other hand was not. My Atlantic salmon dish contained microscopic piece of fish for $28 and the fish and chips were disappointing tasteless as well, combined with two glasses of red Pinot Noar which contained miserable portion of wine at $15 each. If you are there for the atmosphere and the experience is ok, but if you want good food do your research in advance and don't fell for the tourist traps at least not for the first and most obvious one.
My mom loves your inn. It’s a treat to stay at a pricey hotel ($574/night). After this past stay we will likely seek accommodations elsewhere. We checked in in the afternoon. Turned the AC on in our room and went shopping and to dinner at the Tavern. Came back to the room and it hadn’t cooled off much and smelled musty. I noticed the little bit of black mold above my bed air vent but figured I’d just try to make the best of the stay because my mom loves the place. I went swimming and came back super itchy. I assume from the chlorine levels. I took my stuff to the bathroom to shower and noticed the shower door opened inward. It’s a tiny corner shower so there’s no way to get in the shower. I debated showering with the door open but didn’t want to get everything wet. I kept tinkering. The door seal near the bottom was cracked and broken but taped. The seal and broken piece were preventing the door from opening outward. Took me at least 5 minutes to fix it and be able to open the shower door properly. The entire time being crazy itchy from the chlorine on my skin from the pool. The grout in the shower had black spots on the grout. I get out of the shower and am putting things away in the living room area. It smelled musty still and was still not cooled off enough in our room. I noticed the vent in the living room area, it was even more moldy than the bedroom. My mom told me to turn off the AC so we weren’t breathing that poor air quality. I tried to open windows but most wouldn’t open or didn’t have screens the bathroom window cord on the right was broken but after tinkering with it for a long time I got it opened. I was sweating at that point. I put my cardigan on over my nightgown, frustrated, and walked down to the front desk and reported it. No resolution was offered. He wrote it down and said it would be addressed tomorrow. Check out the next morning, I mentioned it again. No resolution or offer of a discount or refund was given for the inconvenience and health threat of black mold exposure. I even showed both staff the picture of it. I know it’s an old building but I expected for that price we’d not encounter the negative things we did.
There's a difference between "charm" and "neglect." I'll post a few photos from our room, #416, and you can decide for yourself whether this level of "charm" is worth $500 a night. (BTW, the odd photo of the open slit between the painted wood is the top of the door into the hallway, believe it or not. The worn-through hole in the fabric is the main bedspread. Again, $500 a night. Hilarious.) Good thing we were with some wonderful friends all weekend.
We had reservations for lunch at 3pm in the main dining room. We were texted early to say our table was ready. When we arrived before 3 pm there was confusion on which table to sit us at. The hostess and waitress had discussions over our table as we were lead to 2 different tables in a back and forth manner. There was no polite greeting due to this confusion on where to put us. We were a party of 4. (There were only 4 other seated tables which were in the process of eating their lunch). Our waitress was not friendly and did not care to interact or offer suggestions on what to order. She acted like we were “bothering her”. We had to ask for refills to our drinks. When our food came, it was delivered by someone else who in a hurried manner put our food down in such a fashion that the plate made noise on the table. We ordered the turkey sandwich, chicken pot pie, quinoa bowl and fish and chips. The food was just ok, fish was brown and overcooked. We are not the type of people to send our food back or complain. I did feel compelled to write this review to save others the expense of a $200 lunch.
I went to the restaurant and had an awful experience. I made the reservation months in advance to celebrate an early Christmas with my whole family, considering the high rates reviews but it was a big disappointment. Not only the food was horrible, but the service was worst. First the waitress ignored my basket of bread order, than she never came up to refill our drinks and at the end I order a chicken and received a burned piece of meat with no flavor whatsoever that was than charged for as a fillet. I’ve been from taverns to Michelin starts restaurants never ever been treat so bad and eat such a bad food. 100% don’t recommend. Actually you can ignore this town and go to Lenox where people are much more kind and restaurants are much better.
Such a shame to see their restaurants fall apart after enjoying for many years. I called ahead to ask if I can bring a special wine for a corkage fee. They said no. I come in order a bottle they don’t have it. I order one of the few vegetarian appetizers they don’t have it. I order another one they bring it out and then our main course less than 5 minutes later. They then hover over our table hoping we will finish quick since it’s 8:30 and 30 minutes from closing. We finish quickly and go from the dining soon to tavern to get coffee they say no we are closing soon. Private equity please come and buy them out so they will get a new ownership and management team to turn this amazing place around. Pure decay get there by 5 as they really close by 8!
Not as represented on the website. I know of this hotels heritage and old charm but it felt grubby and dark. The air-conditioning was ineffective and very, very loud! The carpets are old yes, but they could also be clean! There are some distinct musty odours in the lobby which you cannot escape. Some of the furniture in our room needed fixing up(wobbly night stand, wonky table lamp and chipped dresser! Yes I get the antique look of the place but it could really do with a bit of attention now.
This could’ve been a four star review. If you read my other reviews, you can see I try to rate things fairly and only to post when I can support a business. I will not write a vindictive review. However, I do want to say that, although this hotel has a lot of things going for it, I don’t know I can say I had a great experience. I spent about $500 for one night, including two people eating modestly in the dining room at dinner and with the bed and breakfast package. You do have to understand that although the room rate is high, do not expect a refined experience. There are a few cute stores, but generally not as much as you might think. (Nevertheless, the whole area is great for vacationing.) You will be staying in a large historic property that has elements, such as carpets, that still need to be refreshed. I actually really liked my room and think that it might have been one of the nicer rooms on the property, based on the reviews. Room 103 is spacious for an historic property, has a really nice bathroom and a surprisingly large closet, and opens out onto a pretty patio. That was a nice surprise. Much of the formal public spaces are dark and full of people having a good time but there are smaller, hidden, bright common spaces to enjoy. I went on a mid July weekend, but not a holiday weekend, and the place was very busy. Consequently, the side tables and porch tables always had empty glasses and napkins that had not been cleared away for long stretches of time, not quickly, as you would find in other hotels of a similar price point. You will be paying a small preservation fee, which I think is appropriate as the hotel seems to be managed independently and I think that is better than going corporate. The pool deck was nicer than I expected from the photos. The restaurant staff really hustles and tries to create a quality experience. I imagine guests have a wide variety of taste preferences and expectations, as you can see from the reviews. But I enjoyed everything I ate at both dinner and breakfast and it was possible to eat from a variety of price points. We were looking forward to finally staying at that inn, after decades of driving past it. But I left feeling flustered with a sense of having a diminished experience—not because of the stay but because of my departing invoice. It was not clearly or logically labeled, which confused me *and* the front desk staff who gave plausible but inaccurate explanations about a charge I had queried on the way out. (It actually turned out to be a credit when I used a spreadsheet at home to sort things out, but I found other errors that resulted in a small overcharge.) Part of this confusion stemmed from the reservation process, which was a little rocky and I did not get the room I thought I reserved, but it was fine. My reason for the two stars is that no one called to talk about the problem as promised, and after a week, I just figured it out myself and sent an email. Two weeks have gone by and I just sent a follow up email so we’ll see…. If you go, you could have a wonderful time, just frame your expectations.
I wanted to leave a review because the 4.3 rating seemed really misleading. The hotel is not one that should be considered 4 star and the reviews of the restaurants and the Inn are mixed together. I also think the hotel should spend more time being attentive to the many needs of the Inn and being present and available to guests instead of responding to reviews. The Inn is old and historic, but needs a good clean which takes away from the guest experience. The pool is a great spot to relax. What is missing is culture, leadership, and management. I experienced staff fighting in front of one another. Basic questions like where to walk around the Inn could not be answers. Cheering the Red Lion Inn on because their problems are fixable.
We chose The Red Lion Inn for its location and historic charm. While the location near the Norman Rockwell Museum is excellent, everything else about our stay was unexpectedly disappointing — and I hope this review helps others avoid the same experience. The first surprise: the “hotel rooms” are not all in the historic inn. Some are in off-property houses around town. We were placed in the Stevens House, a regular residential home converted into rooms, located a 7-minute walk from the inn. This was never clearly disclosed during booking. Only after checking in did I see a vague note on their website about rooms "on the property" “within a 2-minute walk.” That is simply not true. The house itself is in poor condition — worn, outdated, and in need of serious upkeep (see pictures). The street was narrow, icy, and slippery, making it difficult to access the main inn or any amenities. In other words, we did not stay in the historic Red Lion Inn we thought we were booking. The price: We paid $738 for two nights (early December), before taxes and fees. There is even a $20-per-night “preservation fee” that does not show up in the upfront total. For this price, we received a single room in a run-down house — something that would have been acceptable only at a $100/night motel, not at a luxury historic property. For comparison, we could have rented a spacious 2-bedroom Airbnb in Stockbridge for half the price. The experience: The front desk in the main inn (there was none in our house) was unwelcoming and dismissive on multiple occasions — upon check-in and when we asked about breakfast. This is not a B&B. When we arrived for breakfast at 9:30 AM, there was a 40-minute wait, even with vouchers. It turned out our nearly $800 2-day reservation did not include breakfast at all. Overall, this stay felt nothing like the historic, charming inn we expected. Instead, we were placed in a neighborhood house, far from amenities, with a poor-quality room — all at a premium price. At several points we wondered whether we had been scammed or simply unlucky. I hope this helps others make an informed decision. If you want the true historic inn experience, be very careful with the room type and ask explicitly whether your room is in the main inn itself. Otherwise, you may end up paying luxury prices for a very ordinary — and disappointing — stay. Outside of the hotel, Stockbridge is wonderful, the Normal Rockwell museum is amazing, and the New England neighborhood is everything we expected - just not this "inn". P.S. After posting this review, the hotel manager responded saying the website would be updated to clearly state that “Village Houses” are separate properties away from the hotel and not within a two-minute walk. However, no such update has been made. I also found a similar review to mine from over a year ago where the same promise was made. Combined with the hidden fees we got surprised with at checkout, this was not the experience we hoped for.
Dining experience with incredibly disappointing. The wine was mediocre, the food was bland and the service was terrible. I've looked forward to going to the Red Lion for years and I can't believe what a negative experience it was.
We spent two nights on the ground floor of McLaughlin House (≈ $1,600). While the property’s setting is nice—we enjoyed an excellent smash burger at the main inn and visits to the Norman Rockwell Museum and High Lawn Farm—the accommodations are far below reasonable expectations at this price point. • Climate & ventilation: The room was advertised with air-conditioning but had none. Maintenance could only offer two fans, one of which was broken. Almost all windows were cracked and/or would not stay open, so ventilation was poor. • Cleanliness & repairs: Mosquitoes, flies, and moths were constant; all of us left covered in bites, and one shirt now has a moth hole. Various other household items were in disrepair and fell apart when we moved furniture to accommodate the fans. Wildlife was coming and going through permanently propped-open basement windows. • Service response: Issues were reported, yet no meaningful remedy or compensation was offered. The McLaughlin House feels neglected and is inconsistent with the hotel’s 4-star/4.3-Google-rating reputation. I would have rather saved the money and gone camping - at least then we would have been better prepared for the bugs. Guests may fare better in the main inn, but I would advise avoiding McLaughlin House—especially in warm or rainy weather.
Overpriced and Underwhelming - Service Was Abysmal This review is a continuation of my Little Lion Motel review. After our disappointing experience there, we were offered a night at the Red Lion Inn and were excited to experience a property we'd heard great things about. The "Year-Round Heated Pool" Isn't Really Accessible Year-Round Upon check-in, we asked about the pool. We were told the changing rooms were closed for the season, so guests would need to arrive in swimsuits and leave wet in the middle of winter. If your changing facilities are closed, you shouldn't advertise a year-round pool. The Room Was Run Down Our room in a separate house "Steven's House" was OK but clearly neglected—peeling paint, uncomfortable beds that sagged in the middle, and no modern amenities. We also had no idea we would be placed offsite, a 7 minute walk away from the main Inn on an icy sidewalk. I understand they're going for a historic aesthetic, but there are tasteful ways to maintain a property. I would have been incredibly upset if I paid full price for this room. The charm we were seeking was complete neglect and you'll find the same in the main Inn with dirty carpets and unhappy workers. Service Was Consistently Poor The real issue was the service, which was shockingly bad for a $400+/night property: The Speakeasy: Packed like sardines with zero ventilation. Hot, musty, and uncomfortable. The Bar: We waited 15 minutes before the bartender even acknowledged us—no greeting, no apology. He was openly unfriendly except when chatting with other staff members who complained about wanting their shifts to end. Other guests around us were voicing similar frustrations about wait times. The Hostess: Didn't greet us or offer any hospitality. Just stared until we spoke first, then gave us minimal information about breakfast. Breakfast Was a Disaster Service the next morning was even worse despite the restaurant not being busy: - 10 minutes to be greeted - 15 minutes for drinks (which arrived incomplete) - Coffee sat so long it went cold as we waited for cream - 30 minutes for simple breakfast items (oatmeal, pancakes, eggs) - Food arrived without requested condiments/sides - By the time we got what we needed another 15 minutes later, everything was cold - Multiple tables around us looked equally confused about the delays. Bottom Line The Red Lion Inn is overpriced, run down, and plagued by poor service. For the same weekend, we stayed at the Shaker Mill Inn the following night and had an incredible experience—proof that other local properties understand hospitality. I cannot recommend the Red Lion Inn unless you're comfortable paying premium prices for a subpar, frustrating experience.
4th Floor king room with dirty carpeting and possibly even damp? Portable heater to try And warm room up. Four electrical appliances, plugged into one Outlet. The linens were lovely and clean, however, and the staff were exceptionally good, even though it was very clear they were terribly understaffed. The price we saw for the room per night is only about a third of what we actually paid at checkout time definitely needs more transparency and pricing. $578 per night is what it cost us for the really bad room.
We went to dine went to the front desk where the young blonde hostess looked at me and my wife and kids a beautiful mixed family, looked at her computer and said we have absolutely no reservations for you for tonight, as we left we sat in the car and made our online reservation for 8pm. This was a blatant racist decision on the part of this hostess. Guess we will see her at 8:00 wonder what she will say. So far not a fan of this place. So follow up we went for our 8:00 reservation found the same woman at the counter, when we asked her about the reservation she said her computer must have glitched, refused us again for a table and went into her office and closed the door on us. I would not reccomend this restaurant at all. I hope management will fix the hospitality here because it's very unwelcoming
We had a reservation and when we got there to check in, they did NOT have a room for us. It is disappointing when you trust that you have a place to spend the night and when you get there in the evening they say that they do not have a room for you… but even more when it is Christmas time, high season, and a very cold and snowy day…
i’ve been coming to the red line in for 30 years and I had the worst experience this summer. it’s so sad that when they sold the inn, a new company does not care about loyalty of customers and treats you like a number. I have so many happy memories of this place. in one night they ruined it for me. I called two nights before I was arriving and said that I might be late and might even show up the following morning. I was delayed even further arriving late the following day and when I arrived, they told me they had canceled my room and took all the money from both nights. They refused to reimburse me, neither would expedia, even though Expedia said I could cancel any time without a penalty. Luckily my credit card was able to refund me.
It is a historic place, we have stopped in a few times and the staff could not be more indifferent and snobbish. If you are looking for the most overpriced rooms and food, you have found it.
We were disappointed at the appearance of the hotel as it did not look like any of the pictures we saw. Online pics didn't match the physical appearance or surroundings upon arrival. The service at the restaurant was beyond being extremely slow. Meal at breakfast had to be returned 3 times before it was correct, even with the manager's help. When it was brought to the attention of the manager that the food had onions that were unwanted, the manager asked if they could just be "picked off". By this time, we had to get it to go because it made us late for a concert we paid to attend. When we booked the 2 night stay, we were told the package would include breakfast for 2 days and a military discount. These terms were confirmed twice by 2 different people. Once upon arrival and again the next day when they tried to bill billus forbreakfast. At checkout, we were told we would receive the meals and military discount and we would only receive the meals which included 2 breakfasts only. When we said we were given the package we stated and confirmed it, we were told that the person that confirmed it was not in and we would get only the 2 breakfasts included. The original terms that we agreed on upon booking were not met.
Shitty room, 50 degrees when we checked in, crummy bed, inadequate pillows, shower with nanometer adjustment from frigid to scalding, tv set screen smaller than my laptop with exposed wiring, dirt on floor in bathroom, walkways driveway not shoveled from snow, and 460 a night. Garbage. Never again.
We did not stay here but reviewing the restaurant: We had a very disappointing experience here the other night. Two main dishes we ordered came without sauce, and the other did not come at all. They “rushed” to get the forgotten dish out to us but by the time it came we were already done with the other dishes. Service was very slow, it was around 40 minutes from when we ordered to when the food came out. They did not clear our finished dinner plates before dessert came out, and it seems the waiter started avoiding us because at first they were filling water up every 5 minutes but by the end of the meal we had to flag someone down. The food was also disappointing; besides being plated incorrectly the duck was not flavorful or well-cooked, and the cake we ordered for dessert was borderline inedible, extremely dry. A manager came to ask how everything was but the waiter interrupted her to hurriedly serve our dessert so we couldn’t even properly complain. We expected a high end service and meal and got neither. Will likely never eat here again. We’ve been to the pub in the past and had a good experience.
