Opinions de Madurai Modern Cafe Sunnyvale
Last week We ordered masala Dosa, gobi manjuri and white rice cake. They were good. The shop is in the corner that difficult to be noticed from the outside but inside is spacious.
I have been going to this place for the last 7 Yrs now, most recently visited it 3 days back. The taste here is top notch, and price is surprisingly still pre pandemic price . Their rava dosa is the best in the bay area . You may be welcomed by a smiling waiter , but the food will more than make up for it
One of the best South Indian restaurants in the Bay area. I loved the taste of chutneys and sambhar, which is the major USP of any South Indian restaurant. Dosa textures and softness of idlis was also amazing. We tried Kara Dosa, Spring Dosa, Idlis and Medu Wadas. All recommended ! The service is quick and they do have some outdoor seating along with indoors. Enough parking in the complex. Check out more on my Instagram food page @veggie_central.
This unpretentious place is arguably the best place in the Bay area to have authentic South Indian food items. The idlis are soft, tasty and almost melt in the mouth. Dosas are crisp and tasty. The Medu Vada is crisp on the outside and soft and tasty inside. All accompaniments such as chutneys and sambhar are authentic in taste and texture and add to the eating pleasure. Filter coffees are great in taste and flavour. The place is relatively small and simply furnished and the service is somewhat slow but at the end of it when you partake of the food and drink items, one is left fully satiated. Toilet, wash basin and ample car parking adds up on the convenience side. Go for it if you are a true South Indian food fan!
Pretty decent south indian veg restaurant in Sunnyvale. The menu is standard but the taste is different than other restaurants. The place is not huge but is neat and clean. We went on a Friday morning and ordered idly, vada, pongal, ghee rava dosa and podi masala dosa. The vada was crispy and Bangalore style, idly was tasty but was paper thin. The chutneys are good. The rava dosa was also very crispy and tasted well. The masala was a little bland but the chutney taste made up for it. The soothing tamil devotional in the background set a perfect vibe for a morning breakfast. I would recommend this place.
One of the authentic and underrated Tamil vegetarian restaurants in the Bay area. Ghee onion Rava Dosa was crispy and pongal with medu vada was amazing. Poori with kurma was tasty too. The sambar and chutneys they serve are truly special. Idly here is very fluffy. But paneer bhurjee dosa was too dry and average. Coffee didn't meet my expectations.
It is this place that delivers softest and tastiest Idlies and Vadas in Bay Area. Just WAW. Your search for the soft and tasty yet fresh Indian food ends at Madurai Modern Cafe .You can blindly go for it. We had a pleasant and sumptuous morning breakfast here and we are very happy to come back again. They make awesome Gobi Manchurian also. They make it crispy and less spicy and more spicy two versions. Also Khara Masala dosa with less Khara paste is also one of my favorites. The chef in charge makes it as my requirement always. Every time I go he makes it signature style Cripsy and fresh Gobi Manchurian specially curated to my spice level just like Bangalore style Gobi Manchurian Dry.Their Noodles and Fried rice are also very good.
Madurai Modern Cafe is a fantastic spot for quality South Indian food. We got masala vada to start, dosas for entrees, and the classic filter coffee to top it off. The vadas (3) were crispy and chutneys were great. I got the Chennai special dosa which was plenty and the filling was delicious! My friend got the Mysore masala dosa which was also quite good. Sambar and chutneys (coconut, orange, and coriander) all were flavorful and not spicy. The filter coffees were fantastic, not too sweet or bland, just right. There's ample parking in this plaza and they have a pretty good amount of indoor/outdoor seating. Service was great, we didn't wait too long for our orders and got each order (appetizers, entrees, coffees) one after another which was nice. Highly recommend!
Great South Indian flavors. Even though they have a typical menu that includes comfort food like Idli Vada combinations, their dosa's are among the best in the bay area. We tried Ghee Podi Dosa which was the best. Also their tomatoes chutney has a unique roast flavor to it. In current COVID times, they have managed to recently open for dine-in experience. Their togo service is also good if you just would like to enjoy the food at comfort of home. Must try!
The food here is great! The idlis are super soft, the vadai is really crispy (a bit oily though), the chapathi and kurma are so homely and nice, sambar and chutney taste great (sambar could be thicker though). The only issue here is the wait time for food- it’s SO slow. I’ve usually seen only 1 person taking orders as well as preparing the food. So it’s a good 20 minutes post ordering to receive your food. They could use more staffing to help offer quicker service.
I stop by this place whenever I’m in the mood for something different, and it’s never been a disappointment. The food is consistently flavorful and a bit outside the usual routine — my go-tos are the Lemon Rice and the Ghee Cone Masala. Both dishes have great balance and taste fresh every time. That said, the portions run on the smaller side, and the prices feel a bit steep for what you get. The interior is very plain and utilitarian — clean, but it has more of a cafeteria vibe than a spot where you’d want to linger. A bit more character or warmth in the atmosphere would go a long way. Still, for something tasty and out of the ordinary, it’s a solid option. I’ll keep it in rotation when I want a quick, interesting meal.
Pure vegetarian restaurant. The taste was good. It’s beside the 7-11 store. They had outdoor seating as well. Idly Sambar and Vada Sambar was good. We can visit multiple times and try out other dishes as well. We have to order the food at the counter and they will serve to the table. Water, spoons are self serve.
Have been here few times. Never disappointed in taste. Sambhar and 3 Chutneys ( coconut, tomato and coriander) are delicious. Dosas are crispy and not oily. Chole puri is also yummy, if you are okay with some greasy food. Orders may take upto 30 minutes or more depending on the order and the crowd. Prices are reasonable.
The south indian dishes were exceptionally flavorful, offering a delightful culinary experience. The quality of the ingredients and preparation was clearly evident in every bite. Unfortunately, the indo-chinese options didn't quite meet the same standards. The flavors were quite ordinary, lacking the vibrancy and depth expected. Therefore, I would suggest focusing on the south indian selections for a truly memorable meal.
Have been here a few times. Have tried different dosas as their menu is limited. The sambar tastes good and consistent. The filter coffee is not so much. dosas taste good. Wouldn't recommend the paneer dosa . Recently went and tried chili Gobi and a few dosas. Service was very slow and food arrived very late .
I'm not a great judge of Indian cuisine, but the food I had was good. My only criticism is that portion sizes seem a tad bit on the smaller side. The dosa felt kinda empty and I wouldn't mind paying more for larger/more idlies if I'd have known. Also got a couple uthappams and a dessert to go, which were good.
The food isn’t that good. We ordered idli, rasam Vada and spring dosa. The idli was soggy and wet. There was a hair in the dish too. When we pointed this to the server they immediately exchanged for a new order. Rasam Vada was decent. Spring dosa was very good. If you want to eat here I would recommend only ordering dosa and nothing else.
Please make fresh batch of chutneys for the evenings. They consistently seem to have these stored in the refrigerator and it is so cold. This is not a one off thing. It has been consistent for a few days now that I have finally decided to not come back in the evenings. Their Pongal is still good. I’ll come back in the mornings for that.
