We love this gem of a restaurant. We had the stuffed mushrooms fire appetizer. For the main course I had the caps ribeye and my wife had the eggplant with angel hair pasta….everything was absolutely amazing and the staff could not have been any better. Highly recommend and would give way more than five stars if possible.
Enjoyed a nice dinner at the suggestion of a coworker who lives locally. We were hungry and started with the crawfish nachos (pictured). They had great flavor and were on wonton chips. For an entrée I opted for the grilled shrimp it was nothing special but was fine. My coworker had the crab eggplant and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I wish I knew the owners name and it's highly unfortunate that I don't! The atmosphere was incredible and the entire wait staff was welcoming. I would highly recommend the smoked Old Fashioned if you are a lover of whiskey, and the regular if you feel like trying something new. The appetizers were amazing, Zydeco Shrimp, hummus, onion rings - it was all amazing! The soft shell crab was superb! Meaty and delectable. If you've ever had it before, try again! This was fantastic. I will admit, I got the Yellowtail Snapper not knowing it was the entire fish, I didnt know what to do with this piece of art! But the owner noticed and quickly asked what it was I wanted. I've never had such amazing service and someone who cared so much about the satisfaction of the customer. I will be back and you need to go!
We ate here for our anniversary and had a great time! Our waitresses Claire and Autumn were amazingly kind, even when faced with serving us and a very large party. The food was all delicious - we had the Crawfish Nachos, Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, Charbroiled Oysters, and the Filet. Would recommend this place to anyone!
Me and my husband stopped by here for lunch a few days ago! It was great! Some of the best oysters we have ever had. I got the fried eggplant with lump crab and Alfredo and it was great and my husband got the crispy duck and it was AMAZING! Our waitress, Jacquelyn I think her name was, was absolutely AMAZING! Best waitress we have ever had! Very nice place and great food! The only thing I would recommend would be some music playing throughout the restaurant. It was quiet when we got there and then became very loud with conversation. A little music is always nice at a restaurant! Overall, great food and service
The food was amazing. It was hot, flavorful, fresh, and perfectly cooked. We shared a dozen charbroiled oysters. They were perfect with the lightest buttery garlic bread. My husband had the seafood platter. The stuffed shrimp did not have a bunch of breading in it. It was full of crab meat. It came with two stuffed shrimp, a crab cake, two large fish, fried shrimp, bacon wrapped shrimp. I had the crispy duck. It was not on the menu, but our waitress, Sage said they always have it. I had never had crispy duck before. It was really good with the slightly sweet gravy and Peruvian peppers. The ambiance is rustic, with the aged, distressed floors and window sills. Very relaxing, homey, cozy atmosphere yet one had to make a reservation and the food was upscale. Price points were reasonable. The service was phenomenal. Our waitress and aspiring physician, Sage, was friendly, and funny. She kept my sweet teas coming all night. A must try...
5 star food. 5 star service. 3 star pricing. The food is not cheap, but a bargain when you see the quality and quantity you receive. My expectations were very low, as every table was booked and every parking spot full. You need a reservation. Trust me on this. The steaks are premium and the sea food is fresh. This is Louisiana cuisine at its finest. The service was incredible. Our waiter Shawn , was beyond attentive. The perfectly marbled steak was bursting with flavor, and generously garnished. I have truly never tasted anything like this. Leave your steak sauce in your purse. The diverse melody of joy experienced in my plate alone was a true symphony to the pallet. Every bite progressed flawlessly to the flavors aligned in the next course. Well worth the two hour drive. This is a must. Prepare yourself for a true taste of Cajun culinary passion. Well done. Well done indeed.
Worth the drive and worth the wait, if you did not make a reservation. In Sunset Louisiana and you will find yourself standing in line with those from Lafayette. Yes it is that good. Had a taste for seafood but they are also know for their STEAKS. The bread is a tasty blend between cake and homemade biscuit. You have to try the Charbroiled Oyster Sampler. I had the Tuna that was perfect with potatos and green beans. My wife had shrimp and we topped it off with a chocolate mousse cake....sorry we got excited and there was no cake when we thought of a photo for you. Again, worth the drive.
In a word excellent! The food was hot, fresh, flavorful, served timely and delicious. Annnnnnnnd they honor their reservations!!! The staff was courteous, very attentive, knowledgeable of the menu, and professional. The restaurant was clean, in order, and has a great atmosphere. We (group of 4) had the crawfish nachos, chargrilled oysters, corn and crab bisque, lamb chops, shrimp and grits, seafood egg rolls, seafood platter, pecan pie and bread pudding with praline sauce. Everything was good! Good value for the price. We'll definitely be back!
This place is nothing short to fabulous. Our waiter Ashley was a wonderful host. She made sure we are well take care off. The food was won.der.ful. Came for $1 Oyster and it was delicious. We had the shrimp fettuccini which was so delicious. Serving is good for 2 people. The complementary little biscuits as starters are very tasty. Prices is in a little higher side, but food is worth it. Ambiance is very welcoming. Nice place to go for a first date, or simply a dinner night. My new favorite place!
Drop Biscuits with Honey Dirty Martinis Trio Chargrilled Oysters Wedge Salad for Two 10oz Filet Topped with Lump Crab—Loaded Twice Baked Potato and Brussels Seafood Pasta Today is our 10th Anniversary, and while I’d love to be on a beach somewhere, we couldn’t swing the timing—soon! However, we did not miss out completely. We visited Cafe Josephine for dinner tonight—what an excellent experience! They served us some yummy drop biscuits as they took our drink order. I’m not sure exactly what all is in these, but they are addictive, like crack. We ordered dirty martinis—mine is always Bombay Sapphire Gin, while Rogers prefers Grey Goose. They were perfectly shaken with ice chips floating on the top. I think their chargrilled oysters are the best I’ve ever had. We chose the trio, and all of them are so good I could not choose a favorite—so happy we did the sampler. We decided on the Wedge Salad, which was large enough to share. Everything you would expect from a wedge, except for their in-house bacon—made the salad over the top. I also loved the extra blue cheese crumbles. Delicious! The Texan is me chose the 10oz Filet topped with lump crab meat. I got the loaded twice-baked potato, and grilled Brussels topped with Sriracha and spicy mayo—freaking awesome. Check out the pic of that Steak and the sides! Wow. All of it was done well and beautifully—stunningly delicious. Rogers decided on the seafood pasta—another hit. Look at the portion size of that pasta! My taste of his was delicious. Now let’s talk about their service. Since this was a significant date night for us, I reached out ahead of time and asked if they could do anything special for our visit. I ended up speaking to Chef Troy’s wife, Melissa—she hooked me up. She set up a unique table in the back surrounded by old shutters and provided a beautiful flower arrangement for us. This was over the top and made our visit even more special. Thanks so much, Melissa, you rock! Our server was Phillip, and he was training Ricki—both of them were phenomenal—warm, friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. You could tell they loved their job. Thank you so much, Phillip and Ricki, for making our evening so outstanding—excellent service is just as much appreciated as great food. We have always loved this place in Sunset, LA. These guys get it right. It’s a beautiful date night. Their prices are reasonable for the food and experience. If you have not tried them, do so, as I promise you won’t be disappointed. — eating dinner with my love with Stephen Rogers at Cafe Josephine.
Put this place on your list - but make sure you call for reservations - it stays packed! Oysters & lamb pretty hard to beat. Very accommodating - they also own a floral shop so if you are planning an anniversary they can get you squared away. Very upbeat vibe - highly recommend!
Our reservation wasn’t until 8, but we got there at 7:15 and they sat us immediately. Everything was wonderful from start to finish. As an appetizer we tried the Zydeco shrimp and oyster combo and the seafood stuffed mushrooms. They were absolutely amazing! Although both were exceptional, the mushrooms were to die for!! Hubby had the seafood platter for his entree and I had the trio oysters 🦪!! Also absolutely wonderful!! My mixed drinks were perfect. Not weak at all!! I am a whiskey drinker and had woodford reserve and it was just right. Normally when you order mixed drinks at restaurants, they are over priced and weak. 5 stars for us!!! We will be back!! Ask for Macy!! She was perfect and very attentive!!
If you don't know about this place you'll miss out on some really good food. The building don't have the name on it so you better use Google maps. Get there before the open the doors at 5pm or make a reservation, the old folks line starts early. The crab stuffed egg rolls were good, the crab cakes is all crab with no filler were said to be the best my wife has ever had and presentation was a 10. I had the chargrilled oysters which were clean and good, shrimp were very good. My daughter wasn't a fan of the ribs, said they were a little tough. Cafe Josephine in Sunset Louisiana is definitely a must go.
Our server, Ali, was amazing! Attentive, sweet, and efficient! She said she normally worked as hostess, but was filling in due to short staffed. Well, we couldn't tell because she was great and the entire restaurant flowed in their service! Great job! Oh, and the food and cocktails were amazing and delicious!
We came here with reservations on a Friday night and were seated when we walked in. Everything we ordered was absolutely amazing and some of the best food we’ve ever had. We got the ribeye pork chop, the country fried steak, charbroiled oysters and a few extra sides. The pork chop was the table favorite, cooked perfectly and well seasoned literally melts in your mouth. But everything was delicious and would be ordered again. The biscuits that you get when you sit down were soft, warm and perfectly sweet. The charbroiled oysters were garlicky and butter and our server brought us some crab stuffed jalapeños which were also super good. They brought a piece of bread pudding out to help us celebrate a birthday too, which was really good and super sweet of the staff. All that said, our server Louis was extraordinary. We’ve never had a server take such good care of us, ever. We truly appreciated the kindness and attentiveness from him and Cafe Josephine. He even packed a few biscuits for our toddler that woke up from a nap as we were leaving. We couldn’t be more thankful. Very down home vibe and definitely down home cooking, we loved this place.
We had an amazing dinner at Café Josephine! It started off strong with a perfectly crafted Old Fashioned—smooth, balanced, and just the right amount of kick. For our appetizer, the crab egg rolls were a standout: crispy on the outside and packed with flavorful, fresh crab on the inside. For our mains, I had the oysters, which were fresh and beautifully presented—absolutely delicious. My husband went with the pork chop served with mashed potatoes and gravy, and it was incredible. The pork chop was thick, juicy, and cooked to perfection, and the mashed potatoes were creamy and comforting, with rich, savory gravy tying it all together. The ambiance was cozy yet elegant, and the service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. We’ll definitely be back!
This is a wonderful place in Sunset. My sister and I were passing through on a Thursday. YEAH! Oyster night!! We started with a dozen charbroiled. Perfect!! Had to get the egg rolls since they were so good the last time we dined thrre. Just excellent! Sister had fried catfish. I had the eggplant crab dinner...breaded, fried eggplant medallions, broiled tomato topped with creamy crabmeat sauce and some fried shrimp! Outstanding! As usual...we ordered more than we could eat...so had a great lunch the next day!
We were a large party of 8 and our waiter was so attentive! The food and atmosphere are 5/5. We had the Firecracker shrimp, crab stuffed egg rolls, trio oysters, and seafood pasta. Two in our party had thr chicken fried ribeye steak - YALL - Talk about good. I want to go back ASAP just so I can order that! All amazing!
Exceptional place! Well worth the drive from Lafayette. Service was great, staff was friendly, owner/chef even came talk to us at the end of the night. Was a first time for my family but we will definitely be back! Absolutely everything we ordered was delicious. I got the crispy duck and WOW. Lots of food and incredible flavor. Best greens beans I’ve ever had as well. Had a great time for sure! Highly recommend. Great place for a nice date as well! Thanks Cafe Jospehine!
Great food good number of selections on the menu.
First timers - even after hearing about this place forever. Could not be more pleased. Some of the best food I’ve ever had in a restaurant. We’ve tried charbroiled oysters all over the state and these cannot be beat. Our server, Martha, was an absolute GEM and only added to the already great atmosphere. Top notch dining.
Best steak ever and wonderful environment!
A very cozy place, you can watch the chef cook while you eat. Charbroiled oysters are great! The steak is a favorite. I wish they would bring back the blackberry cobbler…
This is a truly wonderful restaurant with what must be the best chargrilled oysters anywhere. I’ve had a lot of oysters in many places. You will be served only the finest (several different styles) the best I’ve experienced by far. This extends to whatever else you may choose and there is no problem asking for an item to be done a special way that suits your taste. Service is top notch and the owners are directly involved in daily operations and cooking. Restaurants don’t come any better.
The char grilled oysters were very good. Great service as well.
The food was GREAT. I had several selections of their oysters as an appetizer and the eggplant crab dinner. Their prices are definitely higher than many others but it is completely justified by the quality of the food and the service. I didn't try any of the steaks -- more reason to return -- but I can and do absolutely recommend them for their seafood dishes.
Excellent food and service ! Morgan is an amazing waitress !
The restaurant was nice and clean. We were greeted and seated right away at noon on a Saturday. The waitress was very friendly and appropriately attentive. I enjoyed the shrimp and eggplant panini. My friend had shrimp tacos and eggplant fries. The food was abundant! We each took half of our meal home and were stuffed. I look forward to my next visit here.
I do not generally give a five star rating, but his place deserved it. It was my first time there and when I come back to south La. to visit family and friends, I will be going back here. They took our quickly, and the food was out to us very quickly. The food was delicious. The service was some of the best service that I have had in a long time. See y'all next trip back. Oh, those tuna tacos were spot on. Fantastic flavor!!
Cafe Josephine I absolutely love this restaurant. They have the greatest steaks anywhere around (fight me on that) and the steaks are sorced from a local butcher shop and a local cattle raiser right here in Louisiana that is veteran supported and delicious too. You can support local on so many ways by eating here. This last time we went we had great service from Macy. She was attentive but not overly attentive and had just the right recommendations. They will customize any order within their means and make everything so perfect it is crazy. Chef and owner Troy does a fabulous job from preparation to plate that it wants you to forget all of the other places within 100 miles. The ribs are awesome, as are the fresh oysters whether grilled or raw. All.of the seafood is fresh and delicious. We have only made this a couples restaurant and left the kids at home each time and will continue to do so. Best left for adults. Do not go here if you are looking for a cheap meal. You won't find it. But you will find a fabulous meal excellently prepared that is worth more than the money you spend.
Gumbo: tasted like they had grilled the chicken with Worcestershire sauce and had an old freezer taste. Beef tips tasted like grilled with Worcestershire sauce and was tough. Don’t know who thought they knew how to cook gumbo but they need help and a lot of it!! Sad to say this about this restaurant but come on people!
Loved the crab egg rolls and ribeye stew. My dad had the grilled fish and asked for French fries side. He’s a picky eater and loved the food. High praise indeed. We will be back next time we are out that way.
We had lunch,, was seated right away,, atmosphere was great ,, there is a huge grille as you walk in where you can see them grilling oysters and other stuff,, kinda neat,, my wife had the shrimp and grits which she said where very good ,, I had the fried oyster and shrimp appetizer,, also good,, for dessert we had a slice of blueberry morscarpone cake ( probably not spelled right) we had never had it before,, it was very good . We would recommend it. Overall a good atmosphere, good service and good food,, we would go back if in the area.
Enjoyed a great birthday dinner here for a loved one. Great food and service!
Was a recommendation from the owners of Pelican Ace Hardware. What a meal. Oysters out of this world and the steak one of best I ever had. Service was on point!!!
Best meal I have had in the area all week! The Filet Mignon was cooked and seasoned perfectly and melted in my mouth. Twice baked potatoes, green bean and bread rolls were also delicious. I will definitely be back!
Bruh…was at the oyster bar earlier this evening and some Karen sent a steak back because in her opinion it was over cooked. The chef working was gracious enough to cut the steak and flash fry it to medium rare for us as an appetizer. Was definitely not over cooked. Must say this was probably one of the best meals I have ever had there. Cudos to Troy, Colby and his staff for making and enjoyable experience.
Very friendly, good prices and I love their oysters. Better than acme. If you want the best experience sit at the oyster bar and watch how effortlessly he cooks and visits with guests at same time. My fav restaurant in Louisiana
30+ persons were here for a birthday surprise dinner party. The staff was so efficient, knowledgeable, courteous and friendly ‼️ The food was all served fresh and tasty. Dinner for two or a family celebration, you cannot do better than Cafe Josephine. The menu is chef supervised and flavors are delicious and consistent from plate to plate.
The food was absolutely delicious! 3 of us. Steak, lamb and crab cakes. All were cooked to perfection. Charbroiled oysters were so good. The best part was the bread pudding soooo amazing!
Party of 12, several appetizers, everyone ordered a different main dish. All were satisfied, no send backs or corrections. Lamb Chops were excellent.
Ate her for lunch during covid. Fair service. Shrimp and crab salad had simple flavors. Shrimp and crab tasted fine. Salad dressing did not over power the seafood flavor. Bread pudding was good. No nuts or raisins. Warm and soft. For me, it'd be great with some crushed pecans on top. I love nuts on top.
Tonight was the second time dining at Cafe Josephine's. As a delectable repeat the crab egg rolls were ordered. The crab meat tonight was not spoiled but far from fresh tasting. Did eat almost half trying to convince otherwise. On another note, the waitstaff both times were service oriented and accommodating, thank you
The grilled oysters are not what I was expecting, we were told how good they are here. I would not suggest coming for the oysters. I don’t think you ever need reservations. I would think with the prices you would have white tablecloths. The eggplant medallions with pasta was good and the hamburger steak
Oysters are a must try!!! It's a great way to get away without leaving town. IYKYK
We had a good meal here, but it was lacking in what I call great. Three of us got the eggplant seafood dish which has crab and shrimp. There was VERY minuscule amount of crab in all three of our dishes. I don’t know the reason for this, but it was disappointing. Otherwise it was tasty.
The food is great. I am not a huge fan of Worcestershire sauce in butter on a beautifully cooked filet but it somehow worked with the addition of the Teardrop ( Biquinho ) peppers. The cook on the steak was originally perfect but it died in the window and sadly was served cool. As such, the butter sauce coagulated and it had an off-putting mouth feel. Once it was rewarmed if was ok. The server was super nice but sadly overwhelmed. The meal came out in stages to the point where the wilted spinach had to be packed to go. I will say the bread pudding is awesome and the Happy Anniversary message on the plate was a nice...and thoughtful...touch. Sadly, I could not enjoy the meal. It is entirely too loud. We (a two top) were seated (crammed) between two large birthday parties who were competing to be heard...it was, honestly miserable and anxiety inducing. The menu is a bit pricey but again, quality of the food is worth it...just wish I could say the same for the overall experience. I will try again because I really believe the place has something great to offer a person who loves a good steak. Pro-tip: Avoid peak times on Friday & Saturday, request to be seated in a booth, and be sure to make a reservation but still be prepared for a 20 or so minute wait.
Had our first visit here recently. Food was very good. We went on an oyster night and they were delicious! We also got the hot seafood dip appetizer that was so good. My Old Fashioned was good, not great, I wouldn’t order it again. It was very loud in there. Kinda disappointing for us because we wanted to be able to talk. Service was fantastic though! Update: went again and everything we had was very disappointing. Too spicy to enjoy. We decided the oysters were best but there are better places to get oysters. Atmosphere was still loud. We won’t go back.
Bonne continuation
We’ve heard a lot about Cafe Josephine, so we decided to make the drive and check it out. We went for lunch. Food was good. Service was just okay. The bathrooms weren’t very clean, but overall my experience was okay-good. We also were able to check out nearby antique shops. That made for a fun day.
The place is nice, especially for sunset Louisiana. The staff is very nice and good. I like the center kitchen and chargrills so you can watch your food being made. These are the pros. Now the cons. The only takeaways were that the floor was sticky. You walk on the concrete floor and your shoes stick to the floor. I know it's Louisiana and the put count spice on dam near everything. I ordered a 14 oz prime rib. It's a bit pricey at $44 . I was looking for a great steak, but it was infused with heavy Cajun season. I could not eat it as it was just over spiced . Any steak should only be no season or a light sea salt and cracked pepper base and allow the customer to choose how they want a steak. My waitress said that they have told them from past guest the same thing, but they keep dumping heavy Cajun season on them. I hate paying almost $100 for a good meal I could not enjoy. If they remove that one thing and clean the floors ,I would come back again. Outside of this it's a nice little place to enjoy a meal.
We have eaten at Josephine’s many time. The food has always been excellent. Today the food was exceptionally OVER SPICY WITH PEPPER!! In fact, the food was so over spicy hot no one of the 3 at the table finished their food. Since we were celebrating a birthday, this visit to Josephine’s was a terrible disappointment.
The dinner was okay overall. Our waitress Macy was attentive and sweet. We sat next to the grill behind the windows and i noticed flies flying around and the cooks not doing anything about them. I just thought that was gross and thinking about the food getting contaminated. The money that we paid I just expected better. Corn and crab bisque was ok as well as the crab cakes. The egg rolls were delicious.
Perhaps I went at the wrong time but it was not a very good experience. The parking lot is small for the amount of people the building can fit - we had a party of 10 the building wasnt packed full when we arrives yet 4 of us had a difficult time finding parking and were late sitting with everyone else by 15+ minutes. The food was priced high for what you got - my husband ordered crabs cakes and it came with tomatoe slices larger than the crab cakes, it was a poor portion in my opinion. I ordered the seafood pasta and wasn't the only one at the table to find was dry. Our waitress was kind but really needs to work on her tableside - knocked over glasses, reaching over our served plates and drinks across the table and over our laps. The overall experience has left me to never want to return, regardless of the good things I've heard my experience was much different.
Fish was a bit bland. Asked for Mac & Cheese and got some grits with stuff in it that I wasnt to please with. Food rating i give it a 3 star. Little over prices also. Spent $133 on 2 people
I can’t imagine leaving a poor review because this is our absolute favorite place but last night was totally different. First of all we eat here almost every weekend. It’s rare if we skip one. We always order a special order as our appetizer and we always get what we ask for. Last night our waitress told us no! She was adamant about not getting it for us. From then the evening just got worse. My husband ordered something different for himself and she never even asked me if I would care for anything else. She just was not present most of the time. What really got me was that we couldn’t have our usual order but the 2 guys sitting next to us brought their own wine and glasses!! To top it off she lost our credit card and argued with my husband that she didn’t have it. It was found on the floor. We’ll go back because it’s our place but if she’s our waitress we won’t be staying.
Started strong with Crabmeat nachos and Jalapeño Duck poppers but petered out with slow entire delivery of Ribeye tips and fried shrimp. I settled for thin scraps of Rib eye tips since they were out of Lamb chops and somehow My wife did not receive her green beans timely. All a bit underwhelming from previous visits. Our server, Kit was working diligently during our visit so we appreciated his effort.
I had the Monte Cristo, it had potential but for a $15 sandwich that was supposed to have 3 different meats in it, it sure was empty! It was more like a fried grilled cheese sandwich. The French fries were Brown but were not crispy they were just limp and sad. If I had to guess they may have been air fried, but my sandwich seemed like it found some grease to be fried in so I'm confused with that one. Fries should be crispy. It's a nice little place, the staff was great but like many said the food came slow and the prices on the menu are way too high and from what I saw with my and others at my table the offerings on the plates were skimpy. Not much value. I really wanted to like this Cafe but didn't find a reason to go back
Well, not every visit can be great. This was our 2nd or 3rd visit here, and the food was good, BUT! The area we were sitting in was so loud with crowd noise that it was impossible to hold a normal conversation. Now, it was not that it was incredibly busy, just very loud guests and some what intoxicated guests. It was not really the restaurants fault but wasn't enjoyable. Now, what was the restaurant's fault was bad service! The waiter seemed much more interested in those big, loud, intoxicated tables than the two or four person tables in his area that were not intoxicated! It was extremely obvious! We waited for drinks, was rushed to order, the wrong food came out, and drinks (when filled and refilled) were mixed up. I hope the waiter was tipped well by.the the other tables because he didn't get anything from ours! And before I get bashed for a bad review, I am always reviewing with the benefit of the doubt going to the servicer and I am always a 20% or more tipper for good service but today wasn't that day! Sorry, Cafe Josephine, ya'll dropped the ball tonight.
Don't know what changed but definitely not as good as it used to be. This place used to one of be the best, sadly not even in my top 10 now. Steak was over cooked and had no flavor sitting in a half inch of melted butter. Same with my side of asparagus. Wife's scallops were almost the same price as my steak and were stingray and not real scallops. For four fake scallops and angel hair pasta. Ridiculously bad. Very over priced and disappointed. Only drinks and oysters from now on if we decide to EVER go back. The biscuits are still good.
I ordered a medium rare 10 oz filet mignon. It was brought out medium. I cut to the center hoping for some deep pink meat; alas, none. The server convinced me to return it, so I did. Sadly, the second steak came out more cooked than the first. Our server, once again encouraged me to send it back. The third steak was delivered by the manager...same level of faded pink as the first two. Then, the chef, and I use the term lightly, came to our table with his guns loaded and loudly advised me that I do not understand how a medium rare steak is to appear. "I've been doing this for a long time", he exclaimed, embarrassing us as to the scene he created, causing everyone around us to rake notice. To that, I relayed to him that I also have been eating medium rare filets for a long time and that each steak brought out was at best, cooked medium. I asked that the steak be taken away and ended up with a twice baked potato (delish), a half wedge salad, (drowning in dressing) and our raw oysters we had as an appetizer. Our server, Madison, was fantastic (the silver lining) through the entire ordeal. She was a champion in service.
I have been to this restaurant many times. I have always loved their ribeye cap. BUT NOT THIS TIME! They have totally changed the way it is served. It used to be with a garlic butter of some kind. Whatever they are using now totally over powers the true taste of the steak. I did not like it at all. Not to mention just my steak was over $85 dollars. What a complete disappointment. Shout out to our waitress Clair. You were awesome! I would ask for Clair folks, and don’t get the ribeye cap…
The experience has left us not interested in returning in the future. They were out of several items on the menu ribs and beef tounge. The raw oysters has persons hair in them, just messy job. The waitress was inexperienced and was not familiar with the menu or the location she worked for, because she was new. The crab claws tested frozen and refried. The duck was like beef jerky on the duck poppers and the duck tacos. The restaurant offered us a free piece of cheesecake to make up for the sorry experience, we won't go back. However the only good thing was the lamb chops and fried catfish.
Eggplant dinner! Three shrimp, Three slices of eggplant and NO crab meat. Was delicious but so little food for the price.
Waitress did not recommend gumbo !!! Big disappoint. My initial impression with steak is was it was precooked. Then they threw it on grill to warm it up. Inside of steak was ice cold . Outside looked well cooked but wasn’t hot nor warm. When they brought it back it was charred on the outside but at least it wasn’t ice cold !!!! Burnt or cold I guess are the options . Green beans and cabbage good flavor but cooked to death and who cooks cabbage in 1 cm squares ??????? Not impressed for $100 meal . It’s ridiculous . Smallest cocktails ever !!!! Serve a real drink !!! Oysters just ok - raw did not taste freshly shucked . 5 pm too early to eat here. Not sure how this place can be popular. Waste of $100 bucks
My husband and I dine at Josephine’s often but hadn’t been in a few weeks. Saturday night we decide to go to dinner there. We sat at the bar as the dining room is usually noisy. We ordered drinks and decided on an appetizer. All was going well. The bartender/waitress (there were two behind the bar and the restaurant was busy as we were early that night) asked us to move over so another couple could sit in our spot then that couple moved to opposite end of the bar. She didn’t offer my husband another drink; I was offered one and for whatever reason she ignored him. I had to ask for a glass of water 3 times only to have it served to the couple next to us. When she finally arrived to take our order for our entrees, I order the crab cakes, my husband first ordered the ribs only to be told they were not available. So she put in my order and came back after a while for his second choice which was the chicken fried steak. Again, it was unavailable. He then ordered the fried seafood platter (still not offered a second drink). My food comes out well before his comes out so my food is cold once we begin our meal. My husband left almost all of his food on his plate. This has NEVER happened on our previous visits. My food was cold and tasteless as well. I’m sorry to say that we will not be dining there again. The service was terrible and at these prices that should be of utmost importance. The food was mediocre at best. I will say the mushroom appetizers were quite good. Do better and certain your waitstaff is up to snuff.
Horrible service and even worse communication. I first tried this place 6 months ago and fell in love with the chicken fried ribeye. My wife and I are from South Carolina and are in town for work so I figured what better place for a date night. We first went on Feb 28th around 7pm everything was great I got an old fashion and we ordered an appetizer. It wasn’t until after we started eating the appetizer that the server notified us that they were out of the Chicken fried ribeye and a good bit of other things. So we got the check ($37after tip) and figured we would try next weekend. Well we re visited yesterday around 7pm and it was the same exact situation. I asked before we ordered anything this time. I even called before making the reservation to make sure they would have it. I have a 17 month old son so the only time for a date night is on the weekend after he is asleep due to me working long hours during the week. I understand that this is a smaller restaurant and Saturday is the last day they are open for the week but this is just ridiculous.
