Their menu is MASSIVE. definitely something here for everyone. Richard, our server was doing great for being there by himself. The portions are large and food was good. Cute atmosphere and theme. We've been before in Torrance and was happy to see one along our route home that night, as we were all starving. But we left full.

Your menu is a newspaper. You open it and inside is what you can find what's available to eat. Watch the front for specials. For instance there was a primerib scramble for 12.99 this week including home potatoes or hash brown and biscuits... add gravy (Super Delicious) for .99 more... was like a second meal. Kids were happy with their waffle and bear pancake meal. Customer service is outstanding , they messed up, owned it and made up for it right away, 0 excuses. Hard to find that anywhere. Super happy with food and service. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Good News: Next month , the manager said they are lower the prices on their entire menu! Since we ordered the 12.99 special we didn't order the 20.00 meals, but apparently things will be more affordable soon. Which means we'll be back next month... or probably sooner. After all I love fish n chips and they are doing unlimited every Friday.

Dining in was a good experience at Encino, Tarzanas Black Bear Diner. Customer service was exceptionally excellent and the food was just right. My server Cici was very helpful and friendly. Our food came in a large portion, but it wasn’t too much to make you feel gross. The place is clean and a great place to come eat with family and friends.

The first time I went to a Black Bear Diner was at Davis. . I've always had great experiences at this restaurant in Northern Cal when I go on road trips. When I found out there was on in SFV, I had to come. They serve huge portions and the food is delicious. I ordered the French toast with fruit and hash browns. No complaints. 😊

I had such a great experience at this restaurant and was obsessed with the souvenirs. I ended up buying myself a cute pair of slippers. The food was amazing and everything was delivered fast, my waitress Bonnie was so kind with a huge smile on her face and great attitude, she made sure I had coffee and water at all times! I've been to a few black bear diners in my time and none have met my exceptions as much as this one! The service is very warm and welcoming! The food is made with care and in a timely manner. There are plenty of options for whatever you may be in the mood for! Easily accessible and plenty of parking, it's no wonder I've spoken to so many regulars who visit twice or more times a week. Lastly, if you're lucky enough to get a waitress by the name Bonnie you'll be given the best experience you could ask for! She's so attentive, caring and welcoming! It is worth requesting her as your server & worth a little bit of a wait to do so!

First time I had Black Bear was 2 yrs ago in Merced, CA , so when I saw they had one here in Tarzana, CA I was very excited. Food here is delicious and they serve big portions so make sure you go with a big appetite.

I love this place, everything about it! Parking is super easy as they have a dedicated parking lot. We got there at the same time as a few small groups arrived. The hostess was able to accommodate all the groups and did it with a smile upon her face. I split the chicken and waffles and was happy I did so. I also ordered a biscuit on the side and a cup of coffee (I love the coffee here). As you can see by the portions, they are huge and splitting the mean was a good thing for us. If you are looking for a quaint restaurant with good food, then I'd recommend this place, especially when you have all the waitresses smiling as they are serving! Also the menus are so cute as they look like a local newspaper lol.

Every time my partner and I go to dine here, we're always welcomed by the same two gentlemen who work in the evenings. They're always very polite and attentive. This last time we went there, my partner had the hot turkey sandwich, which he loved, and I built my own breakfast plate which consisted of two sunny side up eggs, two sausage links and two creamy pancakes. The pancakes were huge and delicious. Love that one can get breakfast later on in the day if one desires that. As always, their plate portions are huge, even if you order from the little less section, which is not bad.

I am a Chef with 20 years of experience and this was some of the best food I have ever eaten in my life, the cook jaun was amazing best food I eat, I had the pot roast with white cheddar Mac and cheese and an amazing bake potatoes and my husband had a fettuccine alffrado with salmon it was amazing, I’m allergic to parsley, oration and cilantro and bell peppers. Usually any time we eat pasta that I don’t cook I also have it somewhere in my food, Molina our waitress made sure that nothing we had had any of it on it, was the best service from a waitress and cook, we have ever had, first time here and we’ll be coming back again and again with us and our family, thank u so much for the most amazing first day and great date of the new years, 100 %come big back and loved every minute of this experience

This highly stylized diner is an odd find in the San Fernando Valley, but I have enjoyed every trip here. Great food at a decent price. Their pies are amazing (save room)! If you like the "country feel" then this is the place for you.

I have to say, this was my first time coming here with my boyfriend, and it was absolutely amazing. The food was good and delicious. The portions are quite huge, but I have a big stomach lol. The waitress that attended us was really nice. 2 words that sum up our visit: Food Coma.

3rd location we've visited and love it! Breakfast this time and our orders were cooked to perfection. Parking at this location can be a bit tricky during peak hours... arrive early. Service was great and food was delicious. Prices are a little pricey, but average for a sit down restaurant. However, based on the size of the meals... they are a very good value! Can't wait to try the new one opening in Santa Clarita soon!!

This restaurant is beyond of regular dining. It is home away from home! The herbal tea chamomile tastes superbly. The ice cream is a pleasure to eat. The eggs are well cooked. The chef is excellent!!!! The server is like a family! I really enjoy coming to this restaurant!

I Ordered the Santa Maria Tri-Tip dinner meal with onion rings, mashed potato, and salad and it was very delicious and so filling.. The New York steak and Chicken Fried Steak are as flavourful, juicy and tender. We take out some of their desserts..looks delectible too. I also enjoyed their personalozed condiments.They even have some local merch like shirts and stuff.

WOW, NIGHT & DAY difference! This was our 2nd time eating at a Black Bear Diner. The 1st was in Valencia where we live. My wife and had some of the worst service we've ever had at a restaurant. Well, here we are in Tarzana after a Dr's appointment and we're hungry. We didn't know where to go and saw Black Bear Diner and I said should we try them again. She said remember how bad the service was. I told her that I have a friend that lives in Tarzana and he loves this place and I'm starving. Let's give it "one more try and we're so glad we did! We walked in and were seated quickly. A young man named JULIO came over as soon as we sat down and took our drink orders immediately. He monitored our drinks often and asked if we wanted a refill which I did a couple of times. Then a very nice and friendly waitress named BONNIE came to take our orders. She was extremely professional and friendly. Her recommendations were perfect and because of her WE will be eating here whenever we are in Tarzana. (We may even make this a destination for a date night dinner because Bonnie was as fabulous as the food! I owned a very successful business and your employees can make or break a company. Thank you Bonny & Julio!

The food portions are well worth your money! Friendly and attentive staff! Environment felt amazing! And the food was also well done fresh. I got the Joe hobo omelette with hash browns $17 and mimosa 2 for $10!

And their desserts are so decadent, you'll be tempted to go to confession afterwards. This is one of those franchises I enjoyed while I was in Salt Lake and they're just as good here in California. I ordered the Bigfoot breakfast and I'll be continuing to enjoy it as I brought home so much in leftovers. The service was prompt and friendly and the restaurant was very clean.

Went during breakfast hours, during the week, no crowd, and the service and food were outstanding.. this is the second location I have tried, the other in Barstow. I really enjoy Black Bear... they always have great food and awesome sweet tea.

First of all that biscuit in the picture was huge. That beautiful girl you can't see in the picture has big hands 😍. This place had a total comfort food back at yo mama's house type feel. Real big portions of food or on the plate and it was feeling satisfying and delicious. it was my first time going to a Black Bear diner and I can't say I will be going again if I'm in the area. The place was clean also. Service was about four out of five stars. Our waitress was good she was just overwhelmed. Nice spot though.

The food was prepared relatively quick and fresh. I had the big foot. It tasted like it was just prepared. I would say the quality of the food was good. I really enjoyed the baked potatoe and the chicken fried steak. The onion rings where big and crispy. The plate was big, as I had to take some home. Even when I ate it the next day, it tasted really good. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Every Wednesday we have our morning BNI meetings here for the past 3 weeks. Manny is our waiter and he is top notch with our needs as there are around 20 or more of us having breakfast together. I had the veggie omelet and it was great topped with the mama chipotle sauce. I suggest adding more variety of creamers like pumpkin spice and hazelnut. Great place to host a large breakfast meeting.

Not sure why I avoided coming into this place for as many years as I have. Glad I finally decided to stop in. This chain hails from rural Northern California, it has a bear and Shasta Mountain Lodge theme. Knotty pine and logs. Embroidered mountain motifs in the booths. It specializes in huge portions of freshly prepared diner food, fit for a starving lumberjack. I had a two egg scramble with mixed vegetables that clearly was made from a lot more than just two eggs. What a deal. That veggie scramble is the highlight of the plate, all very fresh veggies- spinach, tomato, peppers, onions and avocado, fresh and crunchy mixed with scrambled eggs and melted Jack cheese. The wheat toast came pre-buttered, but with only a hint of butter so I had to ask for more. I asked for shredded style hash brown potatoes expecting them to be hot, buttery and crispy but they're none of those things. White, soft, lukewarm. Not at all crispy and barely cooked. Forewarned is forarmed, next time I'll ask for them well done, extra crispy. The server who was running the place basically by himself with the others on break offered great service, super friendly, and when I asked him to take the potatoes back to the kitchen and have them cooked more, he did so with a huge smile. They have their own custom branded hot sauce, Papa Burn and Mama Burn. All distinct and all delicious. What a great place to come for a casual, fresh, delicious breakfast. This is a neighborhood jewel.

05/07/2025 I have been here in 2006 when it had a different name, but I remember they had real orange juice. Today I decided to see if they still have good stuff. I went for breakfast and I ordered the Meat Lover Omelet and ofcourse the fresh orange juice. The Omelet came with bacon, sausage, and Ham. It was very tasty and flavorful. It also came with a side(biscuit with gravy) it cost $35.95. I also had to come back for lunch and ordered the Tritip dip deluxe style. It came with sourdough bread, the meat, cheese, and the sauteed veggies with fries for $25.99 The server by the name of Bonnie and Juan the cook were perfect duo. I wanted to come back for dinner but they close at 9:00 p.m. but I'm surely gonna comeback next time.

We have always loved the Black Bear Diners! The decor is adorable, the staff is friendly and the food is great! The only negative I have to add here is the portion sizes. Each dish is absolutely massive and it is not made clear before you order.

Went early morning before school. Only one lady covering the front of the restaurant. She was very nice and attentive, even as she was running all over the place to prep the restaurant and serve her tables. Got the country steak, gravy was nice and creamy. Potatoes seemed undercooked. Nobody ate theirs. The eggs benedict were flavorful. I created my own with eggs, pancakes, and chicken sausage. Wasn't a huge fan of the sausage as it overpowered everything else. The best thing was the sweet cream pancakes. Almost choked as we were trying to eat them all at once. I was able to take some home and they were still good the next day, heated up. Kids want to go back and just get pancakes. Definitely will be returning.

I had the Berry Cobler alamode. And some orange juice. Not a good pairing should have gone eith a glass of milk or hot cocoa. 7 bucks for a glass of orange juice more than what i was expecting

Black Bear Diner at Hanford, California was a more fun experience. The Oreo malt in this restaurant was good tasting. This restaurant back in Hanford and I ordered the same malt. Someone cut 1/4 of an Orea cookie and put the cookie on the edge of the cup with whipped cream. Then crumbled the 1/4 cookie piece and sprinkled it on top of the whipped cream. This restaurant used very light BBQ sauce and Mayonnaise and overdid with the chopped red onions and fries. I couldn't eat it with the onions on top. Unfortunately, I had to take them off and enjoy them. The patty was an enjoyable experience for sure. It was juicy but not dripping juicy.

I arrived early for an appointment nearby and stopped in for breakfast. As is their credo, BBD provided a massive amount of food, which was decently tasty. The "thick" bacon was more like regular bacon, but they did cook it crispy, as I requested. The server, Cece, was wonderful. I was more than an hour early for my appointment, and she was great about letting me sit there, on my laptop, nibbling through my food. She kept checking in and refilled my drink. She was attentive without being invasive, which is perfect. The place was clean and standard BBD decor. The jukebox was rockin' it. I could have done without the Fox News on the TV, but at least the sound was down, so as long as I didn't look at it, it didn't interfere with my meal. Overall, I was happy with the experience and would visit again if I need a pleasant restaurant experience in the area.

I had a complain when I went here because I found a hair under my country fried steak and I discovered it when I had eaten almost half of it, I told the waiter and he just came and pick my plate, I was waiting because I thought he was going to give me a new one or offer me a refund but he just gave me a 4 dollar discount for food quality. I was very disappointed because I've worked on restaurants where if that happens they not only remake your food but they don't charge for it. So I not only ended up hungry but paid almost the full price, the worst is that I was talking about it to a coworker and he told me that it happened when he went to this place , to him and someone else of his family. I might give it another chance because the food Was great, county fried steak delicious, the chicken and waffles were awesome as well, If you go with your kids don't order kids pizza is not good. But since someone else had the same issue with the hair on the food I don't really trust the quality control, besides it's not the cheapest diner.

This diner made me feel like I was back in the Smokey Mountains. All of the bear decor and signs was super cute. Plenty of places to sit. Great for larger parties. Parking is easy. Food was great. Bacon is super meaty. Not a fan of the sweat cream waffle. More dense and cake like than what I prefer. Julio our server was attentive!!! Heard great things about dinner, especially the tri tip. Prices are high so I wont be able to come as often as I would like to. Quality is worth it.

Service was very slow and the server seemed confused and not well prepared. The food was decent but the cornbread tasted moldy. The atmosphere was great. It was very clean and the staff was nice, but I probably won’t go back.

Well where do I begin. This is not my first time here the wait time was great we got seated like 5 minutes after arriving soo good soo far but then 💣 fist the chair my wife sat on almost broke fyi she's pregnant but still no excuse. I know there's a few husky people out there that way alot. Ok then we order the food. And I'm not exaggerating it took close to 1 hour for us too get it and to top it off it was cold I even overheard the couple in the table next too us complaining about the long wait and still haven't received their food. Honestly I'm not one to complain about waiting. I live in Los Angels waiting is part of life here but dang if they haven't gotten their food and we haven't gotten our food. Then what is going on here. Well lesson learned Sunday is not a good day to come here

I order from door dash all the time because I like the chili. Last time I dot it it looked old like it was sitting in the fridge all night. And I asked for no onions, yet there they were. That was like 2 weeks ago, then I decided to order it again today, and today, they forgot the corn comes with it. The app does nothing but that the note. I'm seriously getting tired of this, though, who is working on quality control at this place. Is there no pride in service? The quality is going downhill, and the prices are more and more insane. If you are looking for a diner, you'll probably get better at IHOP.

Service was mediocre and food over priced for what it is. Wouldn't return again, there are other options that are better.

Looking at the line we thought it was going to be super good food but it was all processed heated food nothing was fresh..thank God it wasn't no way out price but we will definitely not be eating there again.. the scenery is nice and our waiter was super! But country deli is far more appealing even with the price of there food. I'm disappointed with our first experience there.....

They really gave up on us on our visit. I had breakfast in the middle of the day and what I got was overcooked breakfast that was reheated. I didn't realize it until I bit into the sausage a couple times. And it was very dry and overly cooked usually happening after reheating food over again. Sausage shouldn't look darker on the inside Minimum effort, no one looked like they wanted to be there or even wanted to cook It was a very depressing experience.

Had a breakfast here first thing caught my eye’s are the ‘worn out don’t care seat’ I was thinking they don’t care about the people comfortable seating lol, I ordered the corned beef hash that came out with 5 PCs of breakfast potatoes, the hash was fried too crispy thus the meat was rubbery I asked for soft scrambled eggs it came out hard I don’t want to make a fuss and just eat since im hungry but not satisfied for the prices they’re expensive for a mediocre breakfast.

The worst ruben ever. Very dry sandwich and meat was over cooked. Very poor service they don't wear name tags. They are under staffed and we saw our food sitting out ready for pickup 10 min. The waiter was visibly frustrated running back and forth. The jute box was playing loud new age music that clashed and drowned out dining room nusic. The bathroom was disgusting smelly and sticky floors. Food is a bit pricey as well.

Waited over an hour for food to come out , ordered sandwiches with fries and pancakes for kids. Food came out cold. Let the waiter know, took the food and came back with food that was still cold. The chicken in my club sandwich was so dry, id compare it to old beef jerky. The kids didnt even like their pancakes. Would not recommend coming here.

I’ve been to their other location in Torrance and had an amazing experience. Not sure what’s going on at this location but service was bad yesterday. The workers seemed uptight and made passive aggressive remarks towards us.. I’ll be sure to not go back ever again. Food is delicious but the experience was definitely not it and I left upset therefore I chose to not tip which has never been the case. Thankfully, the Torrance location is closest to me.

I eat here regularly, and have always found the food quite good quality with relatively fair prices, for the portions they give. Tonight on Christmas was a different story,the restaurant was being run by a bunch of teenagers who clearly were looking to get out of there. The manager was sitting at the counter doing nothing talking about how she was ready to get off work The bathroom was filthy with a puddle of urine ,the prime rib which I have always gotten ,and is usually very delicious and generously sized looked as it was taking Ozempic it was so ridiculously thin. I've never seen prime rib the width of a pancake...it was also very fatty. The salad contained tomatoes not ripe, the server didn't give cornbread and when asked gave me one that was cold without butter I had to ask for utensils as I was given none and then was given a butter knife for my meat. Never once did he check on me to see how everything was Clearly these were a bunch of 17 and 18 year old kids who had not the first clue about the service industry I assume the main cook was probably given the day off , so the guy filling in was just a substitute and didn't know how to carve the meat . When I asked my server about the unbelievable things of the serving , he just said nothing I can really do about it, how it's carved,where he really should have offered atkwase two more slices to make it normal thickness All the workers and employees were Hispanic and me being a white guy felt self conscious and didn't want to come off as some entitled whetto ,in addition it being Christmas I didn't make a stink & even left a tip, but this was a major disappointment tonight, it was so meager I had to immediately go home and eat a sandwich after my disappointing and unfullfilled Christmas dinner ,because it wasn't enough food to fill me up. I think corporate may want to do a surprise inspection,late Saturday night to see what's happening as I suspect this maybe typical on specific dates and times. I'm no prima donna and I know this place isn't Lowry's steakhouse, but it should always be consistent ,clean and well managed I have felt quesy every since I had my meal, and I'm starting to get kinda concerned , the cook did not look clean, it appeared people were going through the motions like zombies focusing on going home instead of on the diners whom were eating. I don't leave negative reviews unless an experience was exceptionally bad ,u fortunately this was one of these .

The food was good and I might return but the service from my waitress was bad. She asked what I wanted quickly and then left. Like she was in a hurry... I had to ask someone else for a straw because my waitress didn't return after dropping off my drink. Then, she brought the food over and walked away. I waited for my waitress to come and check to see if I needed anything, yet she failed to do so once again. I had to ask someone else again for a refill. When she finally did come, she dropped off the check with a smirk and left again. By this point, I had to get up and ask for more gravy. When she did bring the gravy, she brought the wrong gravy and then left. I had to get up again, and then she said, "Oh, you wanted the other gravy." I literally had to get up twice, I had to 2 other people to serve me because my waitress didn't return. This was my first time visiting the diner. I might go back to a Black Bear Diner, but I just might have to go to a different location. I was happy that the food was good, too bad that my experience was not!

I was expecting a much better experience, as I’ve visited other locations in the past and always had a great time. Unfortunately, this visit fell short from the start. When we asked if we could sit at a booth, the waiter responded rudely, saying we could sit anywhere we wanted but that she would not be serving us. After moving booths, the overall experience did not improve. The food was mediocre compared to other locations and the portions were noticeably smaller. The mocha coffee I ordered was also disappointing—it was mostly ice and milk with very little coffee flavor. I would not recommend this location, as there are other locations that provide better quality and value for the price.

unfortunately I was disappointed with the serivce. I just moved to the area and was told that this diner is delicious. The waitress was talking poorly about me in spanish to the guy is the back! I am latina and speak fluent spanish. Im hoping that with this review the issue is addressed ! hopefully 🤞🏻!
