Opinions de Katana Sushi Bar Turlock
We loved our sushi, Valentines day was so busy it took over an hour for to go order, BUT it was well worth the wait! Also our waitress, Melissa was very helpful! (I think that was her name, she had blonde hair with pink shirt on!) Thankful for a very delicious experience! 🙏 ❤
Absolutely amazing experience every time! Brandon always recommends the best food ever—seriously, every dish he suggests is spot on. He even recommended a Milk Maid with his own special twist, and it was amazing (and I never really drink)! He’s always here when we come in and never fails to make the experience even better. 100% recommend Katana Sushi, especially if Brandon is your person!
We visited Katana for my daughter's 17th birthday. The food was excellent. Service was a little slow but courteous. The door to the patio had a broken spring, so every time the front door was opened, the patio door opened slightly and slammed shut again. This was a little annoying as we were seated right next to that door. Prices are on the higher side, so definitely a 'special occasion' place, but the food was worth it.
This place never disappoints! If you're looking for delicious sushi this is the place you want to go to! On top of delicious food, is the excellent service! Brandon is on it! Best service ever! 100% Recommend this place!!
Great food and stellar service. The atmosphere is pleasant and the music always slaps.
This is my favorite sushi restaurant in town. The sushi is always good and you can find classic sushi rolls and more unique options. Their fancier rolls are a little pricey but delicious and worth it in my opinion. Their seasonal Mt. Fuji roll is amazing and I need them to keep it on the menu full time. The 4 stars for service is because I've had issues with long wait times when ordering online for delivery. Ordering through their site and Door Dash is a struggle because the menu online doesn't match the current menu available in the restaurant.
This place is our go-to. The food is amazing. Everything on the menu is delicious. The service is great, they are friendly and kind. As for the atmosphere, it's great. The vibe is chill and very inviting. This is a place I like to bring family and friends to.
I stopped in for a bite to eat. After reviewing the menu, I settled for a fresh green salad with Ahi. The waiter was courteous and attentive. He helped me customize my salad. I was very much pleased with the presentation and not to mention the taste. Overall, positive experience. I recommend Katana Sushi for your next meal.
My wife introduced me to Katana back when we were dating. Since my first experience, I have loved it here. Kozy little spot with good atmosphere and great food. The service has always been excellent also. I would eat here everyday if I could.
Absolutely outstanding food, service and you can't beat the price!! Definitely will return! Try the Dragon roll and Jade Dragon, Absolutely delicious!!!
We love this place! Have been coming here for 10+ years, and the quality of the fish & overall is best in Turlock! Even after the ownership & name changed, the main chefs and staff are the same. It’s nice to see familiar faces and get the same taste of our favorite rolls time and over again. Even when we take it to go, it’s nicely presented and yum.
My husband and I have not been here since its changed ownership and I don't know what took us so long! The food was fresh and delicious and the service was stellar (shout out to Brandon)! We will definitely be back, and often.
This is the nigiri dish and the teriyaki chicken plate at Katana Sushi Bar in Turlock! I got this plate during their happy hour, which is from 9pm-10pm when they have some of their chef assorted sushi for 50% off, so what a deal!!! 🤩 Instead of it being its regular price of $28, it ended up being $14! I am a huge fan of salmon, and this salmon didn’t exactly have a soft, fatty taste like how I usually like my salmon, but I do have to say that the other ones were delicious! For the teriyaki chicken dish, it was SUCH a big portion for only $15! I highly recommend getting this dish because you’ll definitely be getting your money’s worth with this plate! The chicken teriyaki was pretty good, especially with the sauce that was drizzled on top of it! There was a generous serving of rice, and the salad tasted pretty good as well! The mac salad was surprisingly pretty good too! This place was also pretty packed when I went, so this restaurant definitely is doing well with their customers! My total came up to $36.72 ^-^
This place is great. I’ve had plenty of sushi, so believe me when I say the fish tastes fresh here. No slimy textures, no bad smells. Service was great, And servers were friendly and accommodating. If you’re hesitant on price, and feel as if this place is “expensive”, just go try it out. You won’t be disappointed. You’ll pay $12-$15 anywhere else. Pay a couple dollars more at Katana for great quality. At the end of the day you’re putting raw fish into your body. You want it to be of exceptional quality.
We went with 6 kids on a Friday night and got our food quickly even though the place was hopping. Food was amazing and the service was great as well. We will be back!
My favorite place to dine in. 30 miles away from home and the crew and owner are so kind to us and sushi plate always delicious

I came here because my daughter brought me here to try some sushi. It was a nice experience the sushi was very good and the service was friendly.
Good food really nice people that work there and it doesn't take forever like at another sushi restaurant

Delicious! Very nice little sushi restaurant. Our server was a little distracted at first but she was very helpful with our gluten free needs and she was also very good with our three year old, bringing her food first and making sure she was happy. Menu has lots of variety and they even have a picture menu, which was helpful. Would definitely recommend.
Sushi was excellent. Only one waiter, he was running to and fro, and did a great job. Atmosphere was ok. Still super expensive - if they dropped the prices by $3-$5 on each roll, I'd definitely go regularly.
The fish is always fresh and delicious. I love getting the charasi bowl. They are a full bar and various beers on tap. Sometimes you just have to wait a little to be seated, but it is definitely worth the wait. Best sushi in town!
Foodie Buddie Dinner for Two @ KATANA SUSHI – Turlock, CA $85 This visit would have been an easy 5 ⭐️ if not for the delay—we waited about 35 minutes for our food due to staffing and the chef “running behind,” even though there were only three other tables seated. That said, the experience overall was excellent. The atmosphere was welcoming, the staff were kind, and the food was worth the wait. I went with my foodie buddie; my daughter, and here’s what we ordered: Nigiri (Chef’s Choice): All three available items—salmon, tuna, and hamachi. Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Salmon Teriyaki: Generous portion—easily enough for two people. The salmon was tender, flaky, and savory, paired with sticky rice and a crisp house salad. The mashed potatoes were not my favorite, so I’ll substitute next time. Spicy Tuna Hand Roll: My daughter ordered this one and loved it—I didn’t get a chance to try it myself. Overall: great people, great atmosphere, and really great food. Parking available no issues. Definitely planning to return and try more items across the menu. Will update after a few more visits! 🤤
I've been to this place when it was under a different name and I believe ownership. I don't know the details, but Katana Sushi was really good. Food was good and service was great. The atmosphere was a vibe and I loved it. The menu has many selections to choose from and the price is reasonable for what you're getting. Overall a great experience.
Delicious, and fun. Enjoyed some yummy new special sushi rolls and flavors. Couldn't have been more pleased with the taste, service and experience.
Better quality of fish than the last time I tried this restaurant but sliced razor thin on the sashimi plates, great service. The tables were a little dirty. The prices were above average for the rolls but other than that it was okay

Love their sushi rolls but warning they usually don’t open until 530 not 4 o’clock
I was looking forward to good sushi and wanted to check out the place. I ordered several dishes including the rainbow roll. My roll was falling apart. It wasn't rolled well. The spicy garlic edemame tasted boiled with sauce added to it. The garlic chicken breast was over powering. The tempura looked like it was pressed too hard and the panko on the tempura was flat. I didn't have the teriyaki chicken although it was ordered. The temp in the restaurant was very low. I get they want to turn tables by keeping temps low. All three people in the party agreed that we should have brought jackets on a night that was in the 80's. Overall the food was just okay for a Monday night. I might try it again to give the place another chance. Maybe it was an off night.
Chickens Katsu arrived only warm with cold sauce. Service was less than satisfactory: it took 30 minutes for two orders, the server spilled a chicken piece on the floor upon serving, said sorry, didn’t offer a replacement, and then left the chicken piece on the floor for the entire meal. However, the potato salad was excellent.
Fish quality is good but got a poke bowl that was 90% seaweed salad. Huge dissapointment.

Typically a 4-5 star experience but Server Riley delivered subpar service. Drinks took nearly 30 minutes to arrive after ordering. Asked for spicy mayo twice before we had to ask another server Mixed up rolls between myself and other guests then when we approached her about avocado in the roll she asked “are you allergic?” with a snarky tone. Ensure other servers are onsite and you can expect great service and the usual amazing sushi and drinks.
Service is bad when they get slammed on a weekend. My last time there, we waited for a table, then we ordered drinks (for me, warm sake). FINALLY got edamame, then a long time for our simple rolls. I asked the waiter several times for my sake, but he'd forget. I finally got the sake at the tail end of my meal. Waitstaff is friendly but seem distracted. I'd hate to see this place go under, but they need to up their game. STAT.

I was excited to try this place, but I didn’t have a great experience. I ordered a dish and was given a different item completely. I hate sending food back if I can eat it and it won’t harm me, so I didn’t send it back. It was alright but I wish I was given what I asked for. (But I know I did not bring it up so that’s also on me.) It wasn’t busy so they couldn’t have mixed it up with another order. My friend got their order and they did not like the food at all. The servers were all very nice and I know it’s not their fault if the food isn’t correct or good. Probably won’t be going back unfortunately.
The food was pretty good but, the service and cleanliness were one of the worst, or maybe even the worst I have ever seen. There were two waitresses one was working the other was doing everything else but her job. The tables were dirty when I walked in and when I walked out. The bathroom also smelt terrible.
The Tempura was soft not crispy and very bland. The broccoli was very mushy (Cutting the Broccoli in half would reduce cooking time and keep the product from being over cooked.) The Soft Shell Crab Scorpion Roll was spicy but had no flavor except the teriyaki Sauce that was on top. The server was very busy it was just him and one other Gentleman who were serving the whole dining room. Tempura took almost 25 Mins and the roll another 15-20 minutes.

Unfortunately, our experience ended on a very uncomfortable note. After we had already paid our bill, Brandon the manager approached us infront of other customers to confront us about not leaving a tip. We were told that we were “not welcome back” if we didn’t tip and that he had essentially “paid for our meal” because no tip was left. Regardless of personal views on tipping, confronting guests after payment and making statements like this is unprofessional and inappropriate. Tipping should never involve pressure, guilt, or intimidation. If you are being paid below minimum wage because tips are expected. That shifts the employer’s responsibility onto the customer. That’s not the customers fault. If your restaurant restaurant can’t operate without shaming guests into subsidizing wages, that’s a business model problem, not a moral failure on our part. We paid the full listed price for our meal and left feeling uncomfortable rather than appreciated as customers. I’m sharing this so others are aware of how tipping is handled here and can decide for themselves
Tables too close together, food is amazing, service is so bad, if you are in a good mood they will seriously ruin it. They rarely check in with you. They NEVER bring the things you ask for. Like I love spicy mayo and everytime I ask for extra it takes them an extra business day to bring it to me (which is after I have to ask for it for the 3rd time, not exaggerating). They don’t refill your empty waters until you’re so thirsty you just have to ask yourself. Do not count on this place for a quick dine in because they take forever too. Only good thing is the sushi and that’s the only reason I go there. I always see people doing pick up orders so I would recommend everyone do that so you don’t have to experience things like this.

Horrible place after they changed the name of the restaurant. Looks decent at first, but the flavor is really off everything. My sushi was covered in mayonese sauce for some reason. All the flavors were really really off. Didnt taste like real fish at all. Even the saki tasted really off! Do not go here!
I went in there 40 minutes before closing asking if I could order to go, which would have been 1 sushi and they said no. It was weird to me because I feel like that is more than enough time for my order. I didn’t argue though and left because I guess they have a right to deny service but I still found it odd.
Today was very disappointing the food was horrible, we ordered a tempra roll and smokin crunch, let say tempora roll was flat, soggy and blahhh, and it was like a plain rice roll ,, there was no shrimp .the smoking crunch tasted like smoked fish from 3 days ago , with unpleasant flavor and texture , very disappointing 😞
The dining experience was unsatisfactory. The order, intended to include sashimi, was incorrectly fulfilled with nigiri, and the quality of the fish was subpar. Furthermore, the appetizer was not delivered. The cocktails were the only positive aspect of the meal.
Worst experience at a restaurant I have ever had. I had a dinner reservation for 2 at 6:30pm. I wasn't even seated until 6:50pm. After 10 minutes sitting down at my table I came to the realization no one was going to actually bring me a menu anytime soon so we had to get up and get our menus since there was no one to flag down. About 20 minutes after that a waitress finally came to take our order. We received our appetizer at 7:40pm. We finally received our meals at 8:42pm and honestly it would have probably been even longer a wait if I had not asked a server if they could please check how much longer the wait would be on our food at around 8:20pm. Our waitress was nice and professional but in the entire time we were there she hardly came to check on us or fill us in on wait time for our meal. I will not be going back to that place. Sushi was OK and sure as hell not worth over a 2 hour wait.
Our waiter was outstanding! She was attentive and had a great spirit. Besides that this restraint is awful, I ordered a veggie roll and asked them to deep fry it but he “didn’t feel like it” I ended up getting the veggies roll with a soy wrap but didn’t get passed 2 pieces. The vegetables were so salty I had to spit them out! The “sticky” rice was not even sticky and the roll was falling apart, same with my boyfriends. Don’t go here!
There has been a lot of changes from the original Sushi Garden 2. The place is renovated which is great. However, they are so focused on aesthetic the quality of the food is terrible. The tempura is not breaded well enough. The rolls were mostly rice, which was overly dry. The quality is just not there to excuse the prices they are charging. After going there for several years today’s visit will definitely be my last one.
this must be under new management, Once upon a Time was my favorite sushi, so disappointed from my experience yesterday. I ordered two rolls almost $40 and they were mushy with no flavor disappointment. Very sad this was once the best sushi in town
Arrived almost at 1 pm on a Saturday, plenty tables available. We asked for a bigger table for two and the server asked us if we were planning to order a lot of food. I did not appreciated that. I am not planning to come back here. This is the second time that I did not like the customer service. I understand if they do not want to give you a bigger table when is very busy, which was not the case .
We were in town and my son wanted sushi so we decided to try it on a recommendation. That was a bad decision. It was a Saturday night about 7:30pm. I expected them to be busy but there weren't very many people inside. Once we went in, we understood why. The place was filthy. The floors were dirty, tables were dirty and we were ignored when we went in. Finally, someone came to seat us. I went to the women's restroom that was filthy as well and there were no paper towels and the trash cans were overflowing. We had probably been seated for about 10 minutes before the server came over. She never took our drink order, just our food order so we went ahead and ordered drinks when she took our food order. There were a lot of employees behind the counter but nobody was really working. My husband ordered a beer and it took forever. The tables stayed dirty the entire time we were there (about 45 minutes). People would leave and nobody was cleaning any tables. The music was loud and random and didn't go with the theme of the restaurant at all. Now for the food. I ordered the chicken Katsu which was supposedly a popular dish. It was overdone and almost burnt. The macaroni salad tasted rotten and the green salad had a weird taste to it. My son ordered the sushi and said it was okay. All in all we had hoped the food would make up for the dirty restaurant and the terrible service, unfortunately, it did not. Only one girl seemed to be working. There was another server there but she was more interested in flirting with customers and every employee in the kitchen/behind the bar. Very disappointed in Katana Sushi. They clearly need a manager and someone to come and clean house!

Unfortunately this isn’t going to be a great review, but it’ll be honest..after hearing a huge ad campaign on the radio about how great this spot is, I decided to pop in with my kid to get some dinner. I’m just going to get to it. The food was lackluster. Not a lot of flavor at all. Ordered a baked roll, which would be hot as they have been in other sushi restaurants. It was not even lukewarm when it came out. I didn’t even finish it. They upselled it and tossed some shrimp “bits” or something like that on it, and some jalapeño that were supposed to be tempura..I guess. The nigiri was fine. Guess you can’t mess up raw fish unless it’s just not fresh, then that’s a whole other issue you’re dealing with. The appetizer we got was calamari…unimpressive..upsold us to make it spicy? It wasn’t. A toddler could’ve eaten it as it was about as bland as cardboard. Waiter or maybe the manager I’m guessing came over to ask how things were..I explained we were not thrilled and discussed what was wrong only to get a “wow…yeah it was kind of crazy and we’re busy, sorry” (they opened at 4:00, and it was not long after we walked in and sat down to wait for over an hour before the app came out) no offer to discount or take off the food items which all were pretty bad minus the nigiri…nothing. Spent 82$ for my son and I to eat and it was atrocious to be honest. Service was extremely dull. There’s FAR better spots in Turlock that serve sushi. This place blows. Won’t ever go back. If I was the owner, I’d be embarrassed at the foods flavor, presentation, lack of interesting menu / rolls, and very sub par service ..not for what I spent to eat there. Very sub par. The place sucks. Sorry. Nothing personal.
