Went in hungry and cranky and left full and happy. Food was good, there was lots of it, and it was inexpensive. Service was also very good. Space was bright and clean and it was a LOT bigger on the inside than the look of the outside would suggest. Walls were decorated for Valentine's day. Just an all around good experience. I left there downright cheery. Bonus points for the staff encouraging the little kid to keep going with his improvised chicken tenders song.

Go here frequently with my family. Exactly what you would want out of a friendly neighborhood diner. Food is good (the usual American/Greek diner cuisine), wait staff friendly and accommodating, and the prices to be quite reasonable (especially if you are feeding a group). Don't expect to leave hungry, portions are typically large. Parking on the street and the lot across the way is limited but I've never seemed to have an issue getting a spot or getting a table.

My hubby and I came to the area for a comic and toy show. We had been driving over 3 hours and were super hungry. So we stopped at this little diner for breakfast. Everything from the coffee to the butter for our pancakes was fresh, yummy and satisfying. And so well priced! We will definitely come back if we're in that area again!

Hello mainstreet diner. I had several of different dishes while I was inpatient at The Grand in November and December. Everything was really good! Even though I live north of Albany, whenever I come back to Valatie, I will stop by.

Great food! Awesome prices. Huge burgers! Fresh Hamburgers are a 1/2 pound. We had a bacon deluxe burger with fries and a cheese burger with sauteed mushrooms, onions and peppers with Swiss cheese and fries. And 2 large sodas. And it was only $22. Will definitely be going back.

Main Street is our "go-to" dinner. We've been going regularly for more then a decade now. All the waitresses are awesome. The food is good. it can be loud because it's generally pretty full in peak times.

Had a great breakfast here recently. The food was very good. The portions are huge, and it's quite affordable. It's very cute on the inside and the staff was very nice. I will definitely go here again.

I grew up in Columbia County and ate breakfast here as my go-to for 20 years whenever I met with family. Usually breakfast. Their potato egg frittata in the morning is divine after a night at the bar a little further down the street. Staff are people I know and friendly, capable and helpful. The handful of bad reviews are from families running competing businesses or citiots up from NY to their weekend place, who generally treat locals like garbage. Ignore those reviews and you'll enjoy a great meal and friendly service from a mainstay of Valatie.

A perfect small town diner experience. Tables of locals hooting and gossiping with delight. Wonderful daily specials with soup and dessert extras. Fabulous comfort food with mashed potatoes with just the right amount of actual potato chunks. Get the same food you would get down in Hudson for 1/3 of the price. See you there for lunch.

Go here once a year on Father’s Day staff is quick with service and coffee. The cooks turn out great food quickly. Good Eggs Benedict, and link sausage. Get there early cause the line will go out the door and down the sidewalk.

Cute little cozy places that serves great large meals and at amazing prices. Everything we have eaten there with everyone in my party of five all loved meals. Can not recommend this place enough if near this area stop in. We travel 45 minutes to eat here and go monthly.

A very nice place to stop for breakfast. My foid was excellent, the place was clean and nice, and the staff were friendly. My food came out so fast and they didn’t mind that I took my time and sat for a while.

We met up with friends for a birthday lunch and they recommended this local restaurant as one of their regular favorites. It didn’t disappoint in any way. We all had seafood dishes; stuffed shrimp; fish fry with macaroni and cheese; broiled seafood platter and New England clam chowder. Plenty of food and then some. Well prepared and delicious. We’re a ways from the area, but it’s some of the best food we’ve had so it’s worth a trip!

The place was so busy but we still got great, attentive service. The food was hot, fresh and made to order. My daughter loved their sausage, egg and cheese biscuits and can't wait to go back again. They made my day when I saw they had orange marmalade and mixed fruit jelly!

Went for the first time ever today. I was taken here for Father's day. The place was full of people. The food was awesome. I got the waffle deluxe. The waitress was really nice. Will definitely be back.

I have family that live nearby and the diner has always been a "go-to" place for us. All of our food was hot , quickly served, and delicious! The staff was friendly and the service was great . The portions were more than enough ! I thought with prices going up on everything elsewhere, their dinner prices were very good. I have only wonderful things to say about this place! Please don't ever close, you are loved by the locals and all of us that are visiting too !

They feed you like your Yiayia (grandmother) is in the kitchen, food is always incredible typically we don't leave empty handed, leftovers are so worth it. Definitely a great spot for breakfast and lunch.

There small diners are a cornerstone of a community. It is where friends and strangers meet and everyone is welcome. This diner is just that. The food is good and comes out fast and hot. I just love this place. I also felt it was a bargain. Beast breakfast I have had in years.

This gem has been around forever. Eight specials every day, and every type of meal you can think of. Waitresses are so friendly. Prices are the most reasonable you will find and the portions are enormous. Fresh, hot and all delicious. A real diner, not a chain. Open seven days a week. Great deserts, great comfort food. On street parking.great for families. 6 am- 9 pm.

Great place. Lucky we found a parking space right in front of the door. Staff were friendly. Despite sign saying we might experience delays because of staffing issues. (Hint to management: increase wages to attract people). Spinach eggs Benedict and potatoes were outstanding. Eggs cooked firm and pancakes also great. Looking forward to a second visit.

Clean nice family oriented restaurant. Service is quick on point. Never complained about anything I have ordered.. the prices are very reasonable.. the amount of food you get is more than enough. It's definitely children friendly.. and parking is close.. no steps to worry about for handicap or elderly people..

Family oriented and good food. The buffalo chicken wrap was perfect. Not all wet or soggy and there was no buffalo sauce dripping out of the wrap. That's definitely a plus. Recommended for sure.

10/6/2021: lunch was excellent! I had the lamb shank with orzo (the portion was huge and very tasty)! Spouse had the shrimp basket-he said it was good. We would definitely eat here again.

We each had fish and chips.We were there on a very busy Friday night and our server was right on point including a decaf refill right on time.We both enjoyed our meals that were delicious and served very hot.Service was friendly.

Can’t beat Main Street Diner. Food is always excellent with generous portions and prices you won’t find anywhere else. Takeout always ready in 10-20 minutes. Always our go-to spot when we don’t feel like cooking! It is definitely a local favorite, I would recommend it to anyone passing through town and looking for a bite to eat. Street parking can often be difficult to find, but there are a handful of municipal parking lots on Main Street that are are short walk away

I have been wanting to try this place for years now and after being ignored by another diner, and me having hypoglycemia issues (I'm diabetic), my husband and I gladly went here. They were short staffed it seemed but not only did the staff had their hustle but they were very friendly and attentive. We were sat promptly and our drink ordered was taken fast. Coffee was warm and delicious! As the check out line grew and quickly got the diners paid up, they took our food orders, and apologized for wait..which barely was 5 minutes. I got short stack of pancakes with side of bacon, and husband had normal stack of Blueberry pancakes. Both of meals were fantastic! And seeing the other food come out--we WILL definitely come here again!

Looks can be deceiving. The place appears tiny from the outside, but is very roomy once you're inside. Food portions are huge, prices are cheap, taste is delicious, and the service is quick and friendly. To me, this is a hidden gem in Valatie that we'll visit again and again. Ask your server what their favorite is or just go for the burger, you won't be disappointed.

We looked into other places in the area.. but we decided we wanted breakfast for dinner! Was on vacation on a vacation--you read that right--and my friends took me here. Not to be dramatic, but overall it was the best breakfast I've had in a restaurant. I had the ultimate French toast meal (??). The French toast was thick with a slight sear to it. Eggs, bacon, and sausage were immaculate. And the sausage wasn't your run of the mill links, it was like a German sausage? Very delicious and juicy. OJ was very fresh without being too tart or too sweet. Oh and the prices?!! The PRICES?! Insanely affordable and the portions were big.

Me and my wife took our kids there food was good did not have to wait for a seat a family of four cost us $60 with tip which was not bad at all and the kids meals came with a dessert which the kids got ice cream it's nice there open so early and literally the only thing in this neighborhood that open all day for food

Been here twice now and it's legit the best diner in the region. Perfect spot for a quick breakfast, great service, friendly staff, and delicious food. Also wanted to give a quick shout out to the two grown, white men that came in and loudly commented, "Sounds like we're in South America" upon hearing the staff speaking Spanish and mockingly saying "Hola" to them. I hope you know there's a lot more of us out here than you know and I will continue to support this establishment more passionately now. Peace and love!

We were bicycling from Albany to Hudson in the rail trail and stopped here for lunch and the next day for breakfast. We got the tuna salad plate. It was HUGE and tasty. The next day, on our return trip, we got omletes that were done very well. We shared a fruit plate which was wonderful. It seemed like there was a half pint of fresh blueberries! I down-graded the service because both times we had to flag down the waitress to get refills on our coffees and the coffees cooled down quickly in the thick mugs. A great local restaurant in a cute little downtown area.

This was ladies' choice for lunch after shopping at a local gift store. Not only were there lunch items to choose from but there were breakfast items as well. As we walked in there was also a sandwich board with delicious sounding specials for the day. Two of us opted for breakfast while the other lady chose a corned beef sandwich. The food was outstanding. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly. All menu items were reasonably priced. If they had offered speciality coffees we would have stayed for those. Instead we went further down Rte 9 for those. On the way out, I opted for one of the specials to bring home for the hubby....the Thanksgiving Dinner Wrap. He thought it was a really great sandwich. It also came with one of the soups of the day, Cream of Broccoli. We will definitely try this again for lunch.

This Diner is a very quaint and comfortable place to eat. With familiar Foods and polite staff, I would definitely recommend this place. It's cozy and they serve some of the best Comfort Foods I've ever had. If you're looking to be adventurous with your meal though, I would pick a different restaurant. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Main Street Diner, it just doesn't have anything different or out of the norm on it's menu.

The food is decent, clean establishment and the staff is mostly friendly. I work close in the area, so its very convenient to get something to eat besides fast food. Will continue to use their services. I definitely like this diner better than the other one in the area.

Food is good, portioned well and reasonably priced. Normally, I order take out from here, but chose to eat breakfast inside. Friendly service and very welcoming atmosphere. It was quiet and calm inside, but it can get crowded and busy, especially during lunch. Will definitely be back again.

Got a chef's salad. It was huge and leftovers from lunch fed me 2 more times. Not skimpy on the meat. I will have to go back and try other things. Ice tea was not brewed, so I had water.

First visit impressions. Stopped for dinner on our drive back to Albany from visiting family. The menu selection is quite large for a diner. The atmosphere was clean and welcoming. Our server was friendly and attentive. Our meals (turkey club and a reuben) and appetizer (cauliflower wings) came out quick and were tasty. Will certainly visit again.

Been here a few times. Ordered the buffalo chicken wrap came with fries and coleslaw. The wrap was very good and not over hot like other places. Price was very good. Staff was very friendly. Clean place.

A pretty average dinner but the waitstaff was very friendly but not over bearing. The food was very satisfying and their breakfast is great if you get there in time to order it. Burgers are mediocre but that isnt a bad thing considering that's takes into account alot of places that serve beef Patty's. It is however a warm and welcoming environment. The view of the river out back is an interesting view, in a good way.

Great breakfast...great food all times of day Except for today 4/21/22. The fish and chips was disgusting. Absolutely no flavor...None at all! I couldn't even finish it. You would have thought that the badder would have some flavor...but it did not.

Food was good. Service is always kind. But it's always so packed its uncomfortable and difficult to hold conversation. We got up and changed our order to-go. Their fried raviolis were SO GOOD!!!!

Or breakfast was good but not much better than that. I think the service is what gives this place the lower mark. My wife had the corn egg hash breakfast and she liked it, but our waitress never came back to see if things were ok. My wife wanted jelly but ate dry toast instead. I had the vegetable omelet. I specifically asked if there was asparagus or broccoli in it and she said no. When it came, I showed my wife all the broccoli in it. Hmmmm. Also I could not tell which side of my toast was actually buttered. Halfway through my meal, my glass of water was empty and so was my coffee cup. I set them on the edge so she could see and refill. By the time she came back, we were both done. Mind you, they were not busy. She gave me a cup of coffee on the first time/last time to our table. She didn’t even ask about the water. Really bad service here. Not sure if it’s always like that. I look for small mom and pop diners and cafes. I was really disappointed in this one. Unfortunately it would be one I would probably not recommend by the service we had. You might have better luck. I would not give a great rating and suggest a place to have someone would go to this place from my review and be upset on my good rating. This one doesn’t get it, at least not from me. Also,I know it’s just a painting, but I wouldn’t want a younger child to go into the men’s room and start asking questions about what they saw in the men’s room. See last photo. It seems too odd to display In a public, all ages bathroom. Not recommended

Ordered two omelets, a vegetable omelet and cheddar omelet. The vegetable omelet was tasteless and the cheddar omelet had way too much cheddar - a thick layer of cheddar encompassing the entire omelet's girth. Home fries were gross, but french fries were good. We won't be returning.

I grew up in Valatie and came here several times over the years. This time the service wasn't the best. I took my mother and my 5 and 3 years old daughters. They sat us with the kids in a high traffic area where they were highly distracted. My 5 year old saw a picture of a chocolate milkshake on the kids menu and asked if she could have one. The server said, "you can't, you're going to need to pay for it." Obviously not a family restaurant and the food wasn't the greatest.

Order was wrong, waitress tried to blame it on us. When I asked if there were nuts in the chicken salad the waitress said I um don't think so and never offered to check. Young girl not very friendly. Other people's food looked good however. Had read about how great this place was... Not today😣 maybe will give another try if in the area again.

Service was not good-it was Monday morning and not crowded so there was no excuse. Had to go ask for a menu ( the waitress assumed I was with a small group that was there. Never saw those people before in my life) and then she took my tea before I was done with it. To be fair, when I pointed it out she gave me another one, but come on now. The other waitress that was there was on her phone a lot and seemed like she couldn't be bothered.Maybe it was an off day? Food was decent.

Brutal. Exactly 41min before our food came out. Not counting the 6min it took to get soda. Glad I'm not starving to death. I would of been dead from waiting so so so long.

Called and ordered a salad that was crispy chicken and when my fiancee brought it home it was grilled chicken. We called to get it fixed and the person insisted to my fiancee she wrote it down correctly. Had to pay for a new salad for their mess up. Not a happy customer at all

I ordered take out from main street, an hour before closing, like I always do, I get the same burger most of the time, medium rare, except it was cooked completely raw on the inside, the outside looked extremely deceiving as to the inside of the burger.

Rating based on the treatment received as I walked in the door. I was evidently greeted by a new owner. I told him I was meeting four other people for supper. He grabbed four menus and showed me to a table for four. I said there would be four others and myself so we needed a table for five. He informed me that was not what I said. He threw the menus on a larger table, pointed, and told me to sit there. When I go out for Sunday supper, I should not be treated in such a surly manner. I would have walked out if others were not on their way. I spent $70 there but that's the last money they will get from me!

I’ve dined at this establishment for over 30 years including its prior location in town. It’s certainly at its worst. They should probably close up. Inside has been dirty and unkept for months. This afternoon I placed a pick up order. Both the chicken on my salad and sandwich were cold and looked like they had been cooked the previous day. The chicken was not edible on either meal. My salad was drenched in dressing, literally floating lettuce. No pickle with my sandwich, no utensils given and my sandwich didn’t include the basic lettuce, tomato or onion. Overall I’d be ashamed if I owned this establishment. It’s not a good look after serving the community for so long. Do better or call it quits.

This establishment should be shut down. Food was not edible. I'm not sure if chicken was even chicken. If it was chicken it was old and wasn't even cooked properly it was pink and hard. Which I've cooked chicken before and that's a talent that less than 1% of humanity could accomplish. There is more to complain about. I will not say anymore other than because when you order a chicken sandwich and the only thing edible was the hard roll everyone should be ashamed who works there. The original owner is gone and when he left so shouldn't the diner itself.

Very disappointing experience. The diner was unclean, my to-go order was wrong, and no silverware was provided. Worst of all, the chicken on both sandwiches was raw and completely inedible. I had to throw the entire meal away. Food safety should be a basic priority, and this missed the mark completely.

Went for lunch at 2pm, clam chowder was pink and inedible. Both had the special, fried fish and Mac n cheese. Plates were only similar in that both had 2 very small and thin pieces of fish. My Mac n cheese was watery and covered the plate, mom's was dry in a pule. Both were disgusting. When walking out we saw another patrons "special" which had a thick piece of fish covering half the plate. Total inconsistencies. When I complained they did not even apologize for their horrible food and service. Won't be having anything but breakfast there in the future, that has always been excellent.

I Went to Main Street Diner around 11 for breakfast, got a pancakes deluxe and EVERYTHING had hair on it and my scrambled eggs had a long piece of black hair in it. I wish I was joking but the service was horrible the server barely acknowledged us. Paid $35 for food that had hair all over it is ridiculous. Our server came up to us while talking to another table and asked how we were doing, not even a second later she walks away before we can even tell her about our food. I work in the food industry and deal with customers everyday and the fact we were treated so poorly is unacceptable.
